    This episode literally just made a story out of Obi-Wan's "You're eyes can deceive you. Don't trust them." Ever since a New Hope, Jedi have looked a certain way and Sith have looked a certain and this short plays with our expectations/stereotypes.

      Indeed. Though, I really get the feeling I'm one of a very tiny few people who didn't immediately distrust Juro. In my life, I've always had to learn human behavior externally, on my own. One of the best ways to do that as a kid was to go to the Mall Food Court during the holidays. In the bustling crowd, everyone becomes more honest than at any other time, really. They get lost in the tumult of bodies in a combination of sensory overload and total self-absorption, so they forget to check their words and actions.
      .
      One of the things my observations have taught me over 4 decades, is that people who are innately mistrustful of others, those who begin every interaction with mistrust of the other party, are almost without exception the ones who should never be trusted, once revealed.

    Idk how so many people miss this vital piece of information , but the sabersmith , Kara's father , clearly states he infuses the crystals with this ability , they're not saying all lightsabers work like this. So its through his unique force power that these lightsabers gain the ability to reflect the user's strength and connection to the force, which is also why they took him and not just kill him on the spot

    • @Bricktop5585

It being a force power is from him turning on the first lightsaber and its a stable blue color, then he proceeds to deflect a blaster shot and his daughter obviously is also a force user. @@Narukamiiii We don't know if it's a force power or if he just discovered a way to modify them in other ways, but yes, he's a force wielder. Kara isn't at this point as he specificaly tells her that her blade is clear because she wasn't really connected to the force and as her connection would awaken it would start taking an actual color as it did in the end.
      But she did probably train with a lightsaber or a weapon before, probably with the margrave. Which would explain why she was holding her own against the sith, as the setting says that the lightsaber was a lost art so none of them had probably ever had training in lightsaber combat, except probably the Margrave.

    Honestly one of the greatest plot twist in a while and I love the little details. Like the “Jedi” keep asking where the sabers are and where is the margrave, and when the saber smith is holding the lightsaber it’s fully blue but then when he gives it to his daughter it turns neutral. Such a cool episode

  • @Dj2xP
    @Dj2xP 2 ปีที่แล้ว +24

    These sabers can exist next to current canon sort-of.
    The sabersmith said he tempered the crystals inside those sabres so that they would change color depending on the holder.
    In canon, jedi never temper a crystal, they find it and then construct their sabre almost immediately after, the color of their blade is then determined when they find the crystal based on their connection with the force. That's why when Anakin gave Ahsoka her new sabres, they were blue and not green.

    As to the Khyber crystals and the way lightsabers in this particular episode operate...
    .
    The crystals are conduits to the Force. Traditionally, that's one of the reasons only Force-users can build and wield them. If you have no connection to the Force, then the energy from the power cell has no direction or cohesion and doesn't operate. It's a strictly technological device, but it has a mystical component that is required for its operation, through the crystal itself.
    .
    In this case, the man crafting the devices used some kind of process to cause the crystals to respond differently to whoever is using it. Traditionally, a lightsaber was crafted by either oneself, or one's master, being attuned specifically to that individual. In this episode, they've been attuned to respond depending on the nature of the Force that they're exposed to during use. If you're connected to the dark side of the Force, then you'll be using that power to control the crystal, and it will produce a red blade commensurate with the type of power you're calling upon. Normally, the crystal would respond only one way, regardless.
    .
    One would assume the process of this "tempering" involves using whatever that energy beam was to anneal the crystal (loosen its molecular structure sufficiently to be altered without compromising its integrity), with the smith then using a (presumably) special hammer and the Force to adjust the crystal's fundamental structure to accomplish what we see in the episode.
    .
    Traditional lightsabers would then still exist as we know them, but these new types would also exist. We don't see them in the movies or anywhere else because this guy is the only one to figure out how to do it. Which, is pretty believable, really. What's a tad less believable is that nobody knows how to make the original style at all anymore. I suppose if this is a good century or two in the future after the movies, then everyone who knew how to make one may have died without ever passing it on, and everyone who is a "Sith" or "Jedi" now are just self-taught Force-sensitives who sided one way or the other on personal whim. Juro is just exceptionally connected to the Force, and hopes to create a new Jedi Order to stabilize things...instead of having a bunch of half-cocked, self-identifying amateurs run around mucking things up constantly.

    • @EskChan19
      @EskChan19 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      When was that ever a thing? There were a lot of people who used lightsabers who weren't force users, both in the old and new canon(General Grevious, Han Solo on Hoth, Finn). And using other peoples lightsaber was also always possible(Anakin uses Obi Wans, plus obviously Lukes and later Reys lightsaber all being Anakins originally).
      You'd attune a crystal to the individual but everyone could use the lightsaber after that and while it's hard for a non-force user to wield a lightsaber because it requires a great deal of senses and reflexes that non-force users typically don't have, it was absolutely possible for other people to wield them as they pleased, even if they probably ended up cutting off their own arm with them if they weren't careful.

    The idea of lightsaber changing color depending on one's personality, albeit not new, is much cooler than the ubercomplicated "scientific" explanation in SW. It's more fantasy-like, therefore more like what SW is supposed to be. I could just think of some moments where it would have been awesome, like in Ep3 where Anakin's lightsaber could have changed from blue to red to symbolize his turning to the dark side...

    • @captaincoolbreeze9429
      @captaincoolbreeze9429 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      What is the complicated "scientific" explanation for kyber crystal color? Canon currently has three ways that a kyber crystal gets its color. First one is when a youngling goes to Ilum for the Gathering and finds their kyber crystal; the crystals are clear and colorless until the youngling connects with and finds their specific crystal, turning the crystal either blue or green. Second is bleeding a kyber crystal red which Sith and other dark siders do by focusing all their anger and hate into the crystal. Last is cleansing a kyber crystal which is only done to red kyber crystals by a light sider to purge the darkness from the crystal and make it white. All of these require the Force and have a heavy degree of mystical fantasy to them. In the Ninth Jedi, it is made clear that lightsabers and the art of building them have long since passed on into legend so the sabersmith has used his Force abilities to temper the crystals to react to an individual's Force connection. There is no "scientific" explanation provided for how kyber crystals get their color.

    I think it was initially implied in A New Hope that one could develop their force sensitivity, that a Jedi was somthing who was just gaining a greater understanding of the world like in many eastern philosophy's, and it wasn't just something you were born with. Both appear to be true in canon now, (where everyone is connected but some are more predisposed then others) if Chirrut's abilies in Rogue One are any indecation.

They are all forced to. I'm also OK with one guy being a saber smith and Jedi Knights are not able to make their own. Its a different time, so they do things their way. Without traditional training, the Saber Smith Lah Zhima made them the way he thinks it ought to be done, so results are different. His Khyber crystals react to emotions immediately, and that's going to be the new normal way its done in their time period.

    Perhaps this doesn't have to break current lightsaber canon? Once a connection is developed with a specific saber it becomes that color (sith bleeding the crystals takes time), but these were new lightsabers, they haven't had enough time to set into a specific color for good, so they can still be switched between colors until they eventually settle into the users true color after a little bit. Maybe even the length of time Kara had it and used it was enough, that kind of became "her own" saber at that point, but these dudes just picked them up 10 seconds ago. Idk, just a theory I had if they ever tried to pair this with canon.

      well he did say he tempered the crystals, which I assume was said to explain why they don't work like they do in the current canon. Since the concept of lightsabers have been lost in this universe and timeline, I think it would make sense that the new ones weren't built exactly the same way as the originals were which caused them to work differently. I don't think it would be very difficult to explain the change in order to fit with the canon.

    on colors kinda see a pattern here. green is i assume hope. hope for the future being better. blue is is true good. everything they do/believe in is to help others even if mean possibly sacrificing them self if a scenario comes up if protect those that can fend for themselves or someone important. purple is lawful neutral(?) where they wielder actions is for the sake of keeping law and order even if views is strict. that guy is a sith but if watch back the color of his saber from red to purple changed when kara saber turn green so something changed within his mind/views when he saw that.

    there is a youtuber name beyond ghibli that recently did a video about the theme and importance of the lightsaber in star wars especially their use in the visions series. strongly recommend checking it out and maybe react to it if interested.

    My ONLY complaint about this episode is that Ethan feels more like a droid than the average Battle Droid. He's...just a really bland stick. Outside of that...this episode is pretty amazing.

      To be fair he barely had screentime and really wasn't that important. The main character in this episode was clearly Kara and the Margrave. Of course if they continued this as a series they could flesh him out a bit more but as it stands, he wasn't really important enough to really NEED a lot.

    I don't think lightsabers matching your personality would make it hard to infiltrate one of the orders considering the guy who went dark came back light just because he was giving into his anger meaning a Sith just needs to calm the f*** down and their color will be blue

      That's not how that works. It shows your force alignment. As long as you are evil, it will be red. Calming down doesn't do shit. The guy turned purple because he had been evil because of peer pressure basically. But he WAS evil. He just saw that being evil really sucked when you're on the loosing side and second guessed.

    Thats the most EU Star Wars i have seen in a long time.
    Thats why everyone loves it. Man they should had made most of the EU into movies and series. EP 7-9 are a waste.
