    This kind of feels like doubling down on the idea that Qui-Gon’s death sealed the Duel of the Fates in the favour of the Dark Side. It wasn’t just that Anakin lost the mentor he needed but Qui-Gon was the one Jedi who could perhaps have pulled Dooku back from the brink.

      Qui Gon really was the Mufasa figure for Star Wars. When Scar killed Mufasa, the Pride Lands became a barren wasteland full of death. When Maul killed Qui Gon, the dark side became strong enough to nearly wipe out the Jedi and the light. Like Mufasa, Qui Gon was full of wisdom, compassion and understanding and meant so much to so many people. When both died, the people who loved them changed; for better or for worse.

    The reason why Yaddle didn't run back to the temple to report anything, because she wanted to give Dooku, a friend or colleague, the chance to come back instead of 'backstabbing' him. She actually cared about all the things he had said, so it was very kind of her to, again, hear him out. Reach out in kindness instead of giving him off to the council she also lost trust in. She is so very sweet and I can't believe we lost her the same day she got a bigger role :''')

    Whilst I think Dooku first considered that Mace was complicit in corruption in order to elevate him to the council, I believe he did ultimately believe Mace was honest when he said he didn't know. But that made it no better, because it meant Mace got the position despite the way their mission panned out.
    From Dooku's perspective, Mace wanted to clear out quickly and not investigate further, while Dooku's intuition ultimately uncovered a deeper problem. Yet Mace got the council seat because he followed the letter of the law. It proved to Dooku that the Jedi didn't care about what was right, but only what was in the rulebook and rewarded only that. He knew, at that point, he'd always be on the outside, never allowed to fight the corruption he saw poisoning the Republic.

    I think Qui-Gon’s death sealed the deal for Dooku. Qui-Gon died so the Sith could win. Dooku couldn’t stop now.
    If he still had Qui-Gon to go back to, I think he would’ve turned back if Qui-Gon asked.
    I think the only reason Dooku didn’t go to the funeral because it would be too painful.

    • @jmhaces
      @jmhaces ปีที่แล้ว +33

      Yes, even before these episodes Ep II Dooku talks warmly about Qui-Gon and even attempts to convince Mace Windu to surrender and avoid Jedi deaths and calls him "old firiend." Dooku was certainly kind of unique in his behavior as far as Sith Lords usually go. He clearly loved Qui-Gon as a son, and his death was the final push to the Dark Side under, I guess, a version of the sunk cost fallacy. If Dooku didn't go full Sith now, Qui-Gon's death would have been in vain from his p.o.v.

      Qui-Gon death make Sith win double times. 1 for Dooku to become Sidious apprentice. 2 Anakin become Obi-Wan apprentice. Obi Wan is not suitable to become a master yet when he is still padawan at that time. Losing Qui-Gon was a big hit to the Jedi.

    • @MasteringJohn

      Except it seems like he was already working for Sidious at that point (even going to the extent of planting the seeds for the Clone Wars, by erasing the existence of Kamino). While I liked these overall, this was the one thing I disliked, as in the Expanded Universe, Dooku doesn't join the Sith until after Qui-gon dies, severing the last link between him and the Jedi.

    At the tree, Dooku says "it is time to let him go" and Yaddle asks "And you can do this?" Dooku says the thing that tells us everything about how he has fallen this far and why he will continue to fall with the line "What choice have I!" He feels he has been forced into this alliance with Palpatine, he sees the corruption both in the senate and the jedi, the council doesn't listen to him about the coming darkness, and because of this he lost Qui-Gon. It is just a perfect line to sum up his entire character, he feels forced into choices he does not like, to do things he knows he will regret, which is also why he tries to convince Kenobi to join him, it's his last hope to change the direction of the choices he has made, in his eyes.

    Also it's nice similiarity towards Maul and Ahsoka encounter on Mandalore, Maul stands on the right side, he's not wrong about everything, he tells what is actually going to happen, but Ahsoka does not believe him, she also stands like Yaddle on the left side

    What they should to is ret-con the sequel trilogy and have it turn out that Rey was having visions/meditating on a possible future. Then you keep the stuff that works and scrap what didn't, incorporate more content from legends, and prevent people wanting to throw away all the merch and stuff they already purchased. Then I would do it anime CGI style like TALES; that way you have the intellectual property to use the characters without needing the actual actors to reprise their roles.

    Always thought a fun “what if” story would be if Dooku never fell under Palpatine’s sway, and formed the CIS because he knew the republic was corrupt and falling to the Sith and did what was needed to oppose him. • @mitchellhayward6492
      @mitchellhayward6492 ปีที่แล้ว +10

      Exactly. Palpatine doesn't just wear that hood to try and look sexy. I imagine that he does all of these meetings, and all of his hologram calls, with just enough light to see where he is and where he's going.
      I think Yaddle must be the only Jedi to have seen Palpatine in his Sidious persona (bar any visions), though she obviously didn't live to tell about it.

  • @JoeFF85
    @JoeFF85 ปีที่แล้ว +31

    Not only was Palpatine sharing his plan with Jedi Dooku, but given Maul’s reaction in the Clone Wars finale, he hadn’t even told Apprentice Maul about the plan. Maul didn’t know about Order 66 until it happened.

    • @mitchellhayward6492
      @mitchellhayward6492 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      He knew about the Clone Wars though, 10 years before it happened. We know this because of his reaction when Savage tells him. "Ah, yes... And so it began... without me..."
      We don't know *when* Palpatine told Maul about his plan. He could have told him years before the Battle of Naboo even happened. And if so, it's likely he hadn't yet decided on using the clones to eradicate the Jedi. He may have, at that time, been entertaining other options.

    After the young Qui-Gon stopped Dooku from killing the Senator it became clear that it was Dooku who needed Qui-Gon's counsel and reminder to stay the path of the light side. In Ep. II Dooku's lament about missing Qui-Gon and that he could really use his help seemed more of an admission that he was struggling to know what to do - all he had left was following Sidious come what may, just so long as the Senate was toppled. I don't think Dooku really wanted Sidious to become some kind of dictator, and needed someone to help him to overthrow Sidious. Qui-Gon's absence meant Sidious gets first Dooku, then Anakin, to his side, and Sidious' foresight meant he had to know killing Qui-Gon would make all the difference.

    The scene in AOTC between Dooku and Kenobi hits a lot harder now. In the original scene you could already feel his sadness wishing Qui Gon was still alive. It hurts even more now knowing Qui Gon was like a son to him.
    It’s always painful knowing a character is fated to fall to darkness, but wishing they would turn back to the light all the same. Just one of those things you consider with every villain that has seemingly pure intentions at first, but then become the very thing they opposed from the start.

Think of how interesting the Ventress arc could have been, with Dooku and Sidious' having a conflict of interests regarding her teachings and what she had to fight for. 18:31 THIS was what I always wanted to see: how Count Dooku, Darth Tyrannus, TRULY felt when he learned of Qui-Gon Jinn's death.
    My only criticism of Dooku's story is that he still hovers around the Temple quite a bit, even when he left the Order nearly 10 years earlier.
    Even author Cavan Scott answered WHY Dooku was hanging around after the events of his DOOKU: JEDI LOST on the official SW Twitter account.
    It makes sense, but the way they set Dooku up in the Prequels seemed to imply he wasn't on the best terms with the Order when he left & didn't want anything to do with them.
