pezza Basically your sensitivity controls swapped. So most people pull their analogue stick up to look up, but with inverted controls your camera looks down instead of up.
Ellie vs Riley’s reaction to being bitten really says a lot to me about Ellie and why she has such survivors guilt. Riley seems to have accepted it immediately, but Ellie is angry and upset bc I really think she wants to live. Not saying Riley doesn’t want to live, but she seems more at peace with dying. Yet Ellie is such a damn survivor, but the fact that she’s outlived so many people makes her feel guilty.
One thing that seems to stay consistent with Ellie and her arc is the how integral her (survivor's) guilt is to her character as well as how her instinctual reaction to immense stress was to opt for violence. She is partially responsible for her & Riley getting infected, and she reacts by destroying inanimate objects with a pipe. She puts Joel's life in danger by getting tracked and is almost killed by a cannibal pedo, and she reacts by obliterating his face with a machete in a frenzy. Her father is taken away from her before she could mend their broken bond, and so her reaction escalates to such horrifying degrees... until she manages to snap herself out of it. Some view the ending of Part 2 as needlessly bleak and depressing, but when I look out that window, past the guitar, I no longer see a wild girl plagued by survivor's guilt... I see a mature woman who has _finally_ started to heal.
i love how right after Ashley says she is a completionist and needs to get every little thing, she completely walks by the first gun w four bullets in it and nobody else even notices

One thing that isn't mentioned is Factions - the multiplayer of The Last of Us (and Remastered). I'm actually very curious how that impacted the ability to have a Story DLC like this. Factions offered players an evergreen gameplay loop. If you liked combat, you had an infinite system to replay it competitively. So with that, Left Behind wasn't exactly the next thing after the story. Players were able to keep playing the gameplay in Factions multiplayer. I wonder it became easier to pitch this Story DLC to players, since it wasn't their only avenue for more TLOU gameplay. They could go to Left Behind for more Story, and right back into Factions if they wanted more gameplay. Also, I think this DLC plays so differently depending on how you frame it. I first played it in the order of release. But then I replayed the game so that I stopped at Winter, played the DLC, then continued the game. It really hit Ellie's story more directly. By the end of the game, you feel even more that this game is her story. RE: QTE's - totally agree with Neil. They are such a great way to connect the character's actions to the player's body. When Naughty Dog has me spam triangle to get through a door while a Bloater rushes for me, I spam that button! It's a great tool to physically connect the player and the character. Naughty Dog is great at using them too. One more - I love the contrast between the two stories, and how they play off eachother. With Riley, you see Ellie living for something, enjoying life; then you flip to with Joel, and you see why she's fighting so hard. She's so used to risking her heart and losing (even when she wins, like the kiss, she ends up losing -- every happy memory turns to pain and trauma), and she's just refusing to let go of Joel. And finally, Neil totally reminds me of myself - trying so hard not to backseat game but struggling to watch screw themselves over.
