  • In the Philippines, the pandemic has resulted in an explosion of unwanted pregnancies, because access to birth control was curtailed. Many of these unwilling mothers are teenagers, some just 15.
Most women who are too poor to raise another child, unwed, or too young to bear any children seek the help of backstreet abortionists and abortion pill traders. Others turn to peddling their unwanted child. What must be done to stop the trend?

You see guys aren't stupid and can see women want to lock them down into this hence why guys take off (it's not equal rights- "for man and woman".. Gotta be equal rights..) Just because a guys girl has a baby doesn't mean he should have to give 50% of his income to the woman who in most cases spends the money on other things and not the baby, to all women pretty much having a baby is a gravy train concerning money.. Age of consent in the Philippines has been 12 years until recently changed to by Duterte to 16 years.
Coupled with lack of educational opportunities, low or no income, and forced marriages it is a disaster.
Religion plays a large part in prohibiting abortions and encouraging child marriages.
Duterte has the guts to do the right thing. I have the guts to say Religion has lost its meaning and purpose along the way.

The lack of sex education and birth control is astounding here. Sex is too taboo to discuss here thats one of the reason why unwanted pregnancy is so dominant especially when the pandemic hits when people are force to stay at their homes and instead of doing nothing they just had sex, all the time. The problem lies within the government. Yes, they have projects to control that but it was poorly executed. Health centers are able to give people contraceptives but most people don't get contraceptives because they were too shy to ask for it but not too shy to be pregnant. The practice of safe sex here is basically non-existent, I'm just glad other people are advocating safe sex practices(including me)

It is the Roman Catholic teaching before that is followed until now! Go forth and multiply! Until now, many believe that the function of a wife is to make lots of babies even when they can't afford it! Did our Roman Catholic teach responsible parenthood? NO! The Vatican is the boss here! And you know that our country gives a large sum of money to the Vatican every year! Ligation is highly recommended here but the people were brainwashed! We don't know where this statement came from! They all believe that when a woman is already ligated, her libido will be lost! We think this came from our government or religions!

As a Filipino, it's really hard to properly educate us because of celebrity culture and personality politics. Gossip and misinformation are widespread and are treated as forms of public entertainment. We even have teachers who gobble up uninformed opinions and pass them on as facts. Filipinos trust word of mouth above everything else, that is why social media and street gossip reign. And there are people in power who rely on the ignorance of the masses so they can have their loyal voting pool. Until such time that we properly regulate misinformation and corruption does not dictate public services, we will just be continuously miseducated.

Great content. Also, one factor why birthrate has increased among teenagers during the pandemic and even before the pandemic is due to sex abuse. This type of abuse sometimes happens at home (domestic). Meaning the perpetrator is either an immediate family member or a relative and sometimes a neighbor. Someone she knows personally.

Back in the older days, women had children, no birth control, a seed is planted by God if it's meant to be.
Me myself, regret only having two children. I wish I would have had more.
I'm a grandmother now, and out of 6 grands, they are all girls. I love them all to death, but they are getting older, the youngest is 8, I wish there was another baby in the family now that I could care for, love and nurture and teach like I have the others. I sure do miss the baby to 12 yr old ages.
God will provide me with a great grandchild soon I hope. I can't wait.
If I could adopt one of the babies in the video easily without a hassle, I would in a split second, $198.00 my God , for a beautiful living human being, how precious and what a gift that would be. ❤❤❤

Even access to government assistance, unlike the United States, who at least offers state care under a welfare system. Good for you for growing up in a large family without wealth, not everyone is as fortunate as you are, to overcome their level of hardship. To assume that their situation is somehow blessed, because they can breed so many children, is not only ignorant but so out of touch with what is truly happening in their country. Perhaps if these women who didn't want to have these babies were given food to make them sterile, like what you have suggested is happening in the United States, then I'm sure they would welcome it with open arms, at least they wouldn't have to get back alley abortions, or be delivering unwanted baby number 9. I think you hit the nail on the head when you said "church." I was raised Catholic and the Catholic church has a LOT to answer for in Catholic countries where they control access to birth control, sex ed, etc. Even if not explicitly, they have a crazy huge amount of influence. Of course, priests are men so not an issue they are qualified to speak about. At all. I have gone to Filipino Catholic churches in Japan, HK, and Taipei. Such warm, wonderful women (mostly women, due to being migrant workers). And very, very devout.

I am Catholic and I beleive in sexual abstinence as the only method for contraception. And the only one used for thousands of years worldwide which is 100% effective. When you read the history of Jacob you can see he only had sex to have children. His wives ask him, not the other way around because they thought more children made you more powerful and a grester woman, and he was married to Rachel and Lea which compete with each other. Having a penis inserted in the vagina is not a human right. As a milennial I always read that women hardly ever experience any pleasure during intercourse. So sex is certainly a mental illness similar to esquizofrenic disorder. You are delusional when you think you can put your life project at risk to satisfy some mentally ill man.

As much as 70 percent in some ethnic communities are born without the father in the home. Conversely, many primarily Catholic nations do not have this problem. Plus there were married women in this doco with unwanted pregnancies too. Poverty, lack of education and no access to birth control were the issues here.

Sex education & family planning must be taught in schools. Also families must do this to stop teenage & unwanted pregnancies. The poor & uneducated must stop having babies. They must know it’s their responsibility to do everything possible to give a child a good life. Without education & training a child will struggle to get a good job when he/she grows up. This means that the child will have to struggle for 70 years to survive (if he/she lives that long).

    1. How many women lost their lives because of abortion
    2. How is their government helping them during this pandemic period because if they are not helping in anyway then they should at least ease down the lockdown
    3. You say lack of family planning isn't the responsibility of the government to make sure these are available everywhere and anytime, and why don't they give the women the female condoms.
    4. Men that make these women pregnant aren't they supposed to sit down with their wives and plan l would really love to here their side of the story on what is happening.
    5. For the medical workers they should be allowed back into the maternity wards to help these women
    6. Catholic church l do love you but this mentality is sooo old if you as a church won't help take care of these children born unplanned they you have no say over these womens lives so do better.
    6. As a government they should have planned and thought better about what they were about to do during the pandemic, my country we had partial lockdown where you go home early but still can work during the day.
    7. What are the organizations homes and the like that helping these families there is sooo much that is not being done to help these families.
    8. Sex education should be taken over by all stake holders including this catholic church, DO BETTER AS A CHURCH and yes these women should receive family planning at all times and for the men there is a time when you have to of the kids that you and if you can provide for them before adding another one.

      1. If medically induced abortions, it is close to 0 if not 100. Abortion is health care though. Otherwise a lot, such as self/midwife induced.
      2. I am not in the position to say things as I don't know.
      3. Philippines lacks sex education. Therefore, giving women female condoms is not an option as they do not how to use it. Up until now, the government do not implement sex education
      4. It is part of the teenage pregnancy problem that men who impregnate those young women get away with it and run off the responsibilities.
      5. The government's main focus is eradicating the pandemic, not the teenage pregnancy.
      6. That's how religion always works, they are always opposing as what they seem "holy" or "straight" in accordance to the bible.
      6. That happened which we called MECQ and GCQ. But it was only used in mainland Luzon in September 2020 I think after 6 months of lockdown.
      7. Mostly NGOs which are funded by private companies who are concern of birth rate rising and teenage pregnancy.

This should be available for free to every person around the world. This service should include vasectomies as well My father had a vasectomy in 1968. He and my mother decided since they had all the children they wanted and she had given birth to us it was his turn to step up. I personally had my tubes tied because I am a type one diabetic. I felt that if my husband and I ever broke up and he remarried his new wife deserved to have a child if she wanted to. We adopted a baby in 1986. So it all worked out well. I agree, the pandemic is more of an enabler to them. They're the ones with a choice. As a Filipino I would say that my country really needs to implement sex education so that more people can be aware of the consequences of having sex.

These parents whine and complain about not having enough money or food for the number of kids they have and yet they willingly had sex multiple times. What did they expect would happen? They're not naive teenagers. These are adults who know unprotected sex = pregnancy. You don't HAVE to have sex. Your relationship and marriage shouldn't be based on sex. They make it seem like abstaining until they have proper protection is the most impossible thing in the world. Also, being bored and other similar excuses are extremely dumb.

Having a baby in a poor country is the worst thing that can happen to a young person. They'll either abort or throw the baby in the bin but no one educates them, and the cycle begins again.

Please use terms like Developing and Developed countries. Most families do not act like these, only a small group of women act sexually incompetent. The population of the Philippines is over 100 million, while less than 250K is "unwanted', and an even smaller amount is from those in poverty. News like these emphasis an issue.
Unwanted pregnancies are experiencing in the most wealthiest of countries.

Having sex and having babies does not require so much education. That is basic knowledge. Everybody knows if you do sex that is the possible result having a baby. Some people are just irresponsible. I hate them saying, we are poor. And I hate to say, you did that to yourself having a lot of babies when you know you don’t have enough means. That’s reality.

Apparently some people don't actually. It IS extremely rare thou. Historically there was a famed royal couple who was not having sex cause they didn't know what they had to do to make a baby. There are also modern day girls who believe the craziest crap about pregnancy, ie first time you can't get pregnant, if you don't move it isn't sex and no prego, and one simply didn't know sex made babies and thought if you had a bf, then you just naturally became pregnant after you fell in love.... actual stories from doctors.

Before you bring another child into the world, ask yourself , are you condemning this child to a life of poverty? Is this what you want for your child? I have no patience with people who live with the motto "God will provide" or "it's God's will". No . Do not blame God for the human's fault.

Sex being a taboo topic for Filipino's never helps. Those people specially the close-minded elders should reevaluate their traditional beliefs whether it is doing anything good at all for the current and future generations.

If sexually active minors aren't allowed to buy pills how they will stop them from getting pregnant. The pharmacist should've recommend condom instead.
Know why teens refrained to ask the elders?
Because they will just get shamed and blamed.
