what do you even mean. This ENTIRE piece is tinted by ideological lens. Literal American propaganda, which is the only country making this claim while providing zero evidence
4:47 As the father of a two-year-old girl, the tender voice of the little girl saying goodbye in this scene brought me to tears. Actually, I've not only watched Du Wei's work but also numerous other TH-camrs' videos on walk the line, including those by Spanish-speaking TH-camrs (I have a basic understanding of Spanish). However, this particular moment in this film is the only one that made me cry. I believe that, nowadays, walk the line is no longer solely motivated by the search for freedom or escaping hardship, which carries a hint of ideological undertone. There are many interests involved. In this film, Du Wei exposes corrupt immigration officers, bandits who treat people like commodities, and so on. However, she did not mention the most crucial point: the intermediaries on Chinese social media who are massively encouraging others to walk the line. They conceal the truly deadly risks involved in jungle, border crossing and depict life after illegal entry into the United States as a prosperous middle-class lifestyle. They even deliberately emphasize that being pregnant or having young children will significantly increase the chances of successfully. By doing so, they lure these innocent, pitiable people into potentially fatal risks. All of this is because walk the line to USA has become a business. They collect huge intermediary fees without caring about the lives or deaths of those who choose to walk the line.
Wei Du is not only a great journalist, she shown empathy through out the journey but also reasonable in making decision. I really enjoyed this documentary, awesome!!
This documentary was so eye opening. Ive never seen a reporter actually care that much about the people they're covering. It was....... refreshing, the entire team did a wonderful job in covering this journey.
I felt so incredibly moved by the Chongqing family who carried their 2 year old child on the journey to the US. I can't imagine they carried the child for most of the journey because surely a 2 year old cannot walk much - with the sole hope and belief that the life ahead is worth the tribulations they encounter. I will hug my young children close tonight and be thankful for our opportunities in life.
They don't deserve sympathy at all. They had a well-fed and well-dressed life in China, but were deceived by some immigration information and thought that the United States was a paradise. In addition, they may have owed a lot of debts or committed crimes. Everything is the result of their stupidity or sins.
@@madhavvishnoi I had been living in CQ for more than ten years. CQ is a very vibrant city full of skyscrapers, amazing architecture and tasty food. Now I live in a city in the US referred to as "small CQ" by our Chinese people because of its similar landscape.
The reporter interviewed a Latin American man who said he was fleeing death threats in his country. He had all his close family killed. Then she interviewed the Chinese who said they are fleeing China because it’s “too competitive.” I wonder if both those cases get asylum in the USA.
Yea, social media has also broken the minds of too many Chinese. I understand risking your life to escape cartel violence, but risking your life because of a recession when you still had $25K+ in savings .... oof.
This is one of the best border crossing documentary I have ever seen. Props to Wei Du and her team. It made me laugh, cry and scared for the mmigrants. Thank you for taking us all in the journey. Everybody deserves a fresh start. Hoping everybody makes it in the US. God speed!

Losers in life blame the government for all their failures, then illegally obtain credit cards, burden their relatives in the country with debts, and flee the country. Losers plus criminals use lies to numb themselves and make others sympathize with them. In fact, they are real losers. After arriving in the United States, they are still losers. In the end, the only people who make money are the intermediaries who give them illusory dreams.
It is indeed heart wrenching to watch such struggle BUT we Tibetans after the Chinese occupation fled the same way they did and went through the same hardships as seen here in the video. Those who get caught on the way fleeing will be shot, rapped and beaten to death by the CCPs. The only difference here is the route and technology. My parents fled by crossing the high mountains at night and it took them a month to reach Nepal and then they got asylum in India. Sadly in the year 1959 they didn’t have camera to record the struggles. Tibetans are still suffering under the Chinese govt just like the Chinese people themselves.

The ending gave me goosebumps. This is outstanding journalism and i'm touched by your work as an aspiring legal immigrant from Russia. Respects to those who made it through. Thank you for making this.
Incredible documentary. I am Chinese American who lived in China for the very first time when I was 42 years old, for a few years. I’d be happy to live there again any day. In my personal opinion, there’s no perfect country or perfect government, and unless you’re truly being persecuted and it is just not safe to stay, it’s not worth leaving China for the U.S. Relatively speaking, China is a much safer country to live in than the U.S., and life is not going to be easier in the U.S. for the average migrant. But it’s all about perception…for some people the grass is always greener on the other side. I can tell that there is some degree of fantasy in the minds of the migrants about the U.S.--they only see the good and not the bad in the U.S. and only the bad and not the good in China. So, it WOULD be very interesting to see a Part 4 one or two years later to see how they feel about coming to the U.S. Not being able to practice your religion openly is certainly an austerity. If it were easier and safer to immigrate to the U.S., then it might be worthwhile. But it’s also true that God is in everyone’s heart and you can love and worship Him in any case all the same.
But according to one of the families, they’re kind of estranged after the gov closed down their church , guess the gov has been monitoring them since then
Just talking about well-known historical facts can land you in a secret prison... I don't think anyone (or any political party) on earth has the right to force people to live in such a disingenuous society.
a really excellent documentary! i found myself scared for the families involved along the way. hope things are going well for them. The whole production and journalist team was very brave as well. great video

something about them learning english in class together to try and make up for their language differences makes me really rethink about how I feel about immigrants who may be illegal but truly want to make a life here in the U.S. god bless all of you and your attempts to search for better lives. there is hope here in America but it does require hard work, and our country is not the same as it used to be. there is freedom, but you will need to work hard!
China has 9 years of compulsory education, of which 6 years are English learning, and if you can learn it, you will have it sooner. Most of them still live in the Chinese community
Watched all three parts last night; what an incredibly informative, heartbreaking and magnificent documentary. Most people, including myself, have no real sense of what the journey is like for these immigrants, especially the Chinese. I have a not-quite 13-year-old daughter, and the thought of her having to endure a journey like this is terrifying. But the most heartbreaking aspect has to be the fact that once they reach the United States, they mostly realize that it’s not really much better than where they left. Yes, they have freedom of speech and certain other political freedoms that maybe they don’t have in China, but their living conditions probably aren’t any better, and they face a lot of hostility and uncertainty here, which is likely just as stressful. Thank you so much for bringing us this story. Wei Du needs to win all the awards!
Well China is facing a huge economic collaspe which is one reason why China is not flying these people back. The unemployment in China currently is huge and 85% of stores and factories have been closed. Also in China you get no medical care unless you pay first and people do starve in China. But so much depends on finding a job. In China the normal work day is 12 noirs long 6 day a week. Unfortunally they get stuck in the worse area of town that most of use do not even bother to visit.
Amazing documentary by Du Wei and the CNA team. First class journalism and production quality. Highlights the human spirit and the lengths at which people go to find a better life. Amazingly touching and poignant. Bravo!
The family carrying there boy makes me so sad but happy they made it safe in the end. The journey these families have to go through breaks my heart! All they wanna do is work hard! Hire these people!! They’re are the hardest working people on the planet! Thank you for sharing this! ❤
Truly overwhelming, wildly mingboggling and deeply engaging, that I spent last 3 days watching these 3 episodes repeatedly. The series left me with even more questions than before, at the end, it changed my perspective on a few issues about Mainland Chinese Walking the Line. It is the epitome of how journalism 2024 should be, thoroughly researched, presenting a fair, balanced view of the subject matter and staying neutral, albeit with an undertone of empathy and compassion, that's so lacking in humanity nowadays. Excellent 👍.
I watched this film with a heavy heart, recognizing the humanity and kindness of the individuals portrayed. Their stories of struggle and survival resonate deeply, and it's impossible not to sympathize with their plight. I truly believe that the United States has always been, and should continue to be, a beacon of hope for those seeking a better life. However, it's also difficult to ignore the reality that millions of people are waiting in line, sometimes for years, to enter this country legally. These individuals follow the established process, respecting the laws and showing patience and perseverance in their pursuit of the American dream. It feels unfair to those who are adhering to the legal pathway when others, who enter illegally, are allowed to bypass those procedures and potentially receive benefits. My concerns aren't driven by a lack of empathy but rather a belief in fairness and the rule of law. As American citizens, we have an obligation to ensure our nation's resources are used responsibly, especially considering the burden placed on taxpayers. I don’t believe it’s fair to expect ordinary citizens to bear the responsibility for decisions that have created a chaotic situation. The current state of affairs, especially under the Biden Administration, has created chaos and left our country in a total mess. It is a shameful chapter in our history. The lack of effective immigration control and enforcement has resulted in a situation that feels not only unsustainable but also unfair to those who strive to enter legally. As Americans, we should be welcoming, but it must be done in a way that respects our laws and preserves the integrity of our nation. I truly wish there was a way to help those in need without undermining the legal system that so many have faithfully respected. America should remain a land of opportunity, but it must also be a country where laws are respected, and those who follow the rules are not left behind. This isn't about turning our backs on those who are suffering; it's about finding a solution that honors the values of compassion, fairness, and the rule of law. For the sake of everyone involved, we need to address this situation thoughtfully and responsibly.

Respect to one of your best documentary. It is a dangerous journalism move from you to produce this good quality documentary. I took 3 hrs to finish this documentary and I am worry that you yourself get into trouble for this documentary. But you and your team finished it. Bravo work done. 😊
Glad to see excellent documentaries produced by CNA Insider. Credit to Ms Wei Du and the team for their bravest efforts to document the struggles of the Chinese migrants. We can all understand the powerhouse China can be in the public eye, but this perspective brings to light many stories of its own citizens of the discontent they are experiencing.
IF Trump gets elected; they will be deported; most people in US is idiots who haven't travelled the world and probably will never travel (and predominantly they are hillbillies and probably is a Trump supporter) outside of US of A. the only Americans who travel is more pro-choice (Democrats supporters) but the elites who support Trump travels... the poor ones don't even travel to Mexico or Canada or let alone outside their state; only Christian missionaries travels the world ahaha
There are some videos on the TH-cam about Chinese immigrants life in the US after about a year or so, you just need to be able to understand Chinese to understand those videos……
Kudos to Wei Du and CNA for such an excellent coverage on this sensitive topic. While my grandparents were also migrant from China to SE Asia more than a century ago, its heart breaking to see hard conditions still pushes us to make tough decisions in hope for a better future.
Really moving and captivating documentary... we were on the edge of our seat during all three part. This is award-winning journalism right there! Thank you Wei Du, greetings from northern France.
Having watched all three episodes, I have immense respect for CNA, Wei Du, and the team; Wei's courage is commendable. The migration route closely resembles the slave trade between the 16th and 19th centuries, with the key difference being one of proactivity versus passivity. These individuals simply seek to flee burdensome debts and begin anew elsewhere. My hope is that they achieve what they are searching for.
How do you know they have debits? Do you know if you have large debit you cannot leave China because you cannot get a passport. These people had to have a passport to travel to Turkey and then Ecuador. You have to have a good social score to get a passport or even get a train or bus ticket. As far as owning momey because there house was never built then they are running away from a lot more horrible scams, then someone asking $20.00 to stay on the bus. If they were so poor how did they pay for this? All the plane tickets ect. Even after what these people went though you still have to trash them instead of understand how horrible living under a communist country is. YOU CANNOT LEAVE CHINA UNLESS THEY SEE YOU AS A UPSTANDING CITIZEN. If these people go back to China I doubt the country will ever let them out because China is limiting passpprt even more. The sad thing is they would have done better trying to get a tourist visa amd then applying for asylum when they got here. The problem is getting a Visa can take up to a year to get.
@@jeffng1712How do you know these people own money? You cannot even get credit cards in China. Also if your social score is to low ( how much debt you is a big part of the score ) you cannot get a passport or even a bis ticket if it is really bad. Also if people own money on a home that was never built who really did get scam? Basically they are running from millionaire scammers to ones that just take $20 instead of life savings. Many of these people have college degrees. Meanwhile wealthy Chinese who probably got rich by scammimg Chinese people can just buy there way to a green cards and eventually citizenship.

Thank you CNA for this eye opening documentary series! Having been to the US recently, I can’t help but to think the “American Dream” is in the past. It seems these Chinese migrants have been misguided with the harsh truth of the reality of life there as an illegal migrant. With the current economic climate and social issues such as drug addicts and homelessness in major cities, it is indeed not what they’d imagine. Please consider doing a follow up on these migrants after 6-12 months.

I think they are counting on US government hand outs. In other words, free stuff and help in integration. I think they hear these things in social media platforms.
The American Dream has always been difficult to achieve and there have always been those who have achieved it. Nothing has changed. In 2021, I was homeless sleeping on the California streets. Tonight, I own my home free and clear and my paid for car is parked in my driveway. This is AMERICA. 🇺🇸 God can bless whomever He chooses to bless here. He owns this country.
Excellent and extraordinary documentary. Will never understand why Chinese want to emigrate to the US empire. Some of the migrants' comments about skyscrapers in the US and being impressed by them really sounded strange to me, especially given the hyper modernity and huge infrastructure development taking place in China which actually leaves many cities in the US looking very primitive and third world
Thank you for this beautiful documentary. It was like a movie. I can't believe how much i hoped they could all make it accross safely. I'm glad they did.
Amazing race Darien Gap, this was so heart-stopping. I loved that they are Christians, may God be with his people. Seems like almost every single one of the Chinese migrant has tens of thousands of US dollars at their disposal. To the other south Americans, they'd be like - what are these rich folks doing trying to cross the border?
@@mmwh5100that’s wrong, these ppl could not have so much credit in the banking cuz they r low income group in China and banks would not give them so much credit. They r just fooled by the western media and agencies.
This actually was an interesting documentary. For these people to leave their home and go through hell to get to the US, Either they are misguided or their homeland was unbearable. However, I find that many of their dreams were delusional after they landed in America. From the likes of this one single documentary, in comparison to the other migrants in Latin America. Most of these Chinese migrants have money, look well fed. Can read and write and have cell phones. That says it all. Life wasn't so bad in China compared to other Latin immigrants escaping violence, death, or otherwise. Every situation is different for different persons, but all the Chinese migrants in this documentary tend to have much much much more resources at their disposal for their journey than any of the Latin compatriots.
This is what I’m struggling to understand as well. The Chinese families are clearly middle-class with access to education, healthcare, secure jobs and good technology, yet they couldn’t have spent time doing thorough research on what the migration journey is truly like and what awaits them in the US? Even if some were to argue and say that the CCP blocks international news and social media propaganda sells the fake American dream, millions of Chinese citizens have found ways to skirt that through VPN and give themselves access to proper information. I wholly empathize with perilous journey and can’t imagine what must’ve been going through their minds as they worried if they were gonna make it across the border at all, but what comes across in this documentary, very sadly, is the ignorance of these families and the delusion they’ll have a better life in the US. No matter how many years they spend living there, they’ll always be seen as outsiders and won’t be able to truly integrate into American society.
Wow! Just watched the whole series. Amazing work by the whole team! I live in Sichuan and the "Dad" character reminds me of my Chinese uncle here. It's crazy what these people have to go through, I hope the best for them.
Brilliant series. Such dedication from Wei Du and her team having to watch it all from a certain distance. It must’ve been very hard at times. I’ve never seen such a documentary in this detail and it boggled my mind from beginning to end. Great work Wei Du & CNA!
When I first learned about Chinese doing the long route I wondered why but these episodes have shown why. Like in other groups there's still some bad people like the one who stole his clients money just to come to america. Thank you & to your team for a better insight including from locals in Latin America & America
I’ve watched all 3 parts. Thank you, CNA, Wei Du and her team. This TV report made me so sad for all these chinese people. I traveled a lot for my previous job and know the reality of life in USA and China. I would never advise a chinese family to leave their country and move to USA. It's an ugly business in which some people can die. It's tough to imagine with all social medias how they idealize life in USA. I'm always shocked by the growing number of homeless people in USA. Living in France, my country, is nowodays also very difficult. We have here many immigrants people that cause a lot of troubles. It's hard everywhere and I really don't like this world in which people struggle for their life. Hope all these chinese families have found a better future 🙏
As a Chinese, I think these families are just bored and have nothing to do so they want to "Walk the Line". With a few hundred thousand yuan they can live very happily in rural China, or they want too many unrealistic things and imagine America to be too beautiful. I guess they are regretting it now. In China, as long as you are willing to work hard and live seriously, it is so comfortable and cozy. After watching the documentary, most of those who walk the line are unrealistic and do not live down to earth.
The US has over 650,000 homeless and is increasing by the day. These people coming to the US will just add to that number because there is no livable wage jobs or affordable housing. Unless you have friends or family that can help you your chances are slim to none with this inflation.
Excellent and gripping documentary. I hope that the destination they are pursuing is worth all the sacrifices-the perilous journeys, the anxieties, agonizing challenges and the extreme fatigue. Being illegal immigrants, they not only have to confront the ramifications but also the anti-Asian sentiment that is still prevalent in the US.
Great documentary. Indeed most places in the US feel incredibly foreboding late after dark. Far more dangerous than many places in the world and far less likely that someone will come to your aid if something should happen. No matter where you are all you can do is be grateful if you have something to celebrate, something to work with, and we certainly do in the Us despite the challenges.
Excellent 3-part documentary series that I enjoyed watching❤.Hats off to the crew for their hardwork in filming this amazing series.Keep it up❤.Please have a follow up on these chinese migrants in the future.Thanks❤.

Many people on Chinese social media advertise that washing dishes in the United States can buy a villa with a year's salary. America is full of gold. So these idiots gave up everything and went to America to wash dishes. Thank you for the US public opinion war budget. Let China have fewer useless idiots.
obviously these people were facing different issues in china which made them must run away from china. from the interviews, some are looking for religious freedom, for money, one run away coz he was corrupted in china, and so on. we cant comment on their motive and worth, is their choice.
39:29 aah the Epoch Times it is well known and they distribute this newspaper for free in Hong Kong, Singapore, Malaysia and Taiwan especially to the Chinese Community.

God speed!
Thank you Wei Du and her team for this great journalism! It was objective and protrayed the difficulty these Chinese migrants faced on their journey to the US border..
this is One of the most obvious pro-American sinophobic documentaries of this decade. Illegal Migrants arrive in the USA from India, Taiwan, indeed from all over the world.
The specific focus on Chinese crossing the border, particularly when safer ways of illegally"overstaying"the visa, has been a talking point only fringe USA right-wing outlets talk about
Losers in life blame the government for all their failures, then illegally obtain credit cards, burden their relatives in the country with debts, and flee the country.
Respect for CNA team for this documentary.

Also good Chinese listening practice!
But according to one of the families, they’re kind of estranged after the gov closed down their church , guess the gov has been monitoring them since then

something about them learning english in class together to try and make up for their language differences makes me really rethink about how I feel about immigrants who may be illegal but truly want to make a life here in the U.S. god bless all of you and your attempts to search for better lives. there is hope here in America but it does require hard work, and our country is not the same as it used to be. there is freedom, but you will need to work hard!

Well said. They are running to escape their debt
Just trying to avoid debt, nothing to be proud of.
The men from Shanghai is probably running from the law.
Yeah. From the level of desperation most are probably escaping from loan sharks or some sort of crimes back home.
Huge respect for Wei Du and her film crew for braving the dangers and hellish environments to make this documentary. THANK YOU so much!
Huge respect to Ms Du Wei, courageous, knowledgeable and compassionate! One of the top documentary on current event!

Deep respect to these journalist and staff putting not only efforts but courage to telling the stories. God bless.
It’s one of the best documentary presented by CNA
Congratulations Wei Du and CNA team. Documentary of the year 2024.

@@jeffng1712Sounds like their culture isn’t it? LOL

The production of these documentataries are of high level quality. I highly commend CNA, Wei Du and the crew for their excellent journalism.
Salute to Wei Du and her entire team. Can’t wait to see a coverage of them a year later

What an heart wrenching documentary, surely China can't be that bad, to leave and be preyed on by smuggling gangs like that for a so called better life in an unwelcoming country, as the saying goes " the grass isn't always greener on the other side of the fence " I wish them well.
Some of them are already complaining it is pathetic and they are not used to the way things are here. Welcome to America!!
Many people on Chinese social media advertise that washing dishes in the United States can buy a villa with a year's salary. America is full of gold. So these idiots gave up everything and went to America to wash dishes. Thank you for the US public opinion war budget. Let China have fewer useless idiots.
maybe it is THAT bad? of course with all the censorship of the great firewall the wumao won't allow any bad news to spread though.
It is not just US, Chinese is fleeing everywhere.
obviously these people were facing different issues in china which made them must run away from china. from the interviews, some are looking for religious freedom, for money, one run away coz he was corrupted in china, and so on. we cant comment on their motive and worth, is their choice.
39:29 aah the Epoch Times it is well known and they distribute this newspaper for free in Hong Kong, Singapore, Malaysia and Taiwan especially to the Chinese Community. It is very successful and many Chinese people who read this paper or follow their channel believe them. If you do some research about them they are linked to the Falungong and is heavily funded by the CIA too. They spread Anti-China Propaganda very successfully.
More Chinese people seeking asylum in the US = more business for Falun Gong
Thanks for the team to bring us so wonderful documentary.I'd watched all three episodes. As a Chinese ,I feel that's worth nothing to go to US.The route is so hard ,humiliating, and the real life in US is not that good than China.I feel pathetic about whoever Chinese, risking they life to come to US,but I also feel shamed.
The real life in USA is much better than China. You do not understand what you are saying.
One of the best documentaries 有水准 I've seen recently really opened my mind and made me think deeply about its subject.
