I would love this modification. It is interesting that alto doesn’t offer it as an option.

I'm glad you were inspired!! I would not be surprised to see an air fryer/convection oven option someday, but those do draw a lot of power!

Great idea! Thanks so much for the video. We will be picking up our Alto this spring. I much prefer a toaster oven, so we may choose to do the same thing.

Glad it was inspiring! We get a lot of use out of it, and have not missed our microwave.

Thanks for the video. What is the model of the one you installed?

Glad you like it! It’s a Cuisinart Custom Classic TOP 40. Always good to check the size carefully, in case it’s changed or the size of the cabinet has changed.

    Air fryer?

Ours isn’t, but it might be possible. Just keep an eye on the airflow and the heat on the top of the cabinet.

Cuisinart has so many variations. 🥴
Can you please share model number, dimensions etc ...so we can locate this exact one?
Also can you share the name and specs of your Canadian screwdriver?
Thanks so much for your hard work in producing this helpful video!🤗

Hi Patricia, glad you enjoyed the video. Our toaster oven is the Cuisinart Custom Classic TOB 40N, which I don't see on Amazon currently. The dimensions are roughly 12 x 16 x 9 inches. The Cuisinart TOB-1010 Toaster Oven Broiler, 11.77" x 15.86" x 7.87" looks like the closest match currently. Of course, you'll need to measure your shelf to be sure, just in case your Alto is slightly different than ours.
The screwdriver is a #2 square headed Robertson driver.
      Happy toasting!

Cuisinart TOB-40N appearing in the video is still available here: amzn.to/3ishjbY

More info on the screw driver: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_screw_drives#Robertson
The video directly states details: "you'll need a #2 square headed robertson driver"

I am curious... how does the Alto shelf housing handle the heat from the toaster oven? Any fire danger?

    • @QuailSnail
      @QuailSnail  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

So far, our “touch the shelf after we cook” tests have not been uncomfortably hot. We usually cook in short cycles (more toasting than baking) and our longest cook time is under 20 minutes. Obviously we can’t say there’s NO risk, but so far, so good.

@@QuailSnail Gotcha, thanks for the quick reply.

Are you sure the toaster oven won't be a fire hazard? I do know some toaster ovens get pretty hot on their exterior sides. I like the change but I'm wondering how well it's working for you with it getting too hot. :)

So far, it hasn't been a problem. We've toasted plenty of bagels, and even done longer cooks, up to about 20 mins without setting fire to anything. The cabinet gets warm, but so far that's all. We've been very mindful about venting space in the back, as Nathan mentions in the video.

Well done! A few days ago my wife suggested we do the very same thing in our alto that we plan to have delivered sometime in the middle of next year. The idea got me thinking about altos again, so I searched and found your channel! Great content- very similar to how we plan to use our Alto.
I do have some questions about the install, though. How do the power requirements of the microwave differ to those of the toaster oven? I see the toaster oven is 1800 watts (!) and I can't imagine the microwave sucking down that much juice. What's the maximum amperage Alto suggests running through that outlet? Any wire or breakers overheating?

Well, we don't know what Safari Condo suggests, but at least at home, we've been able to run both a microwave and the toaster oven at the same time without tripping a 15 amp breaker, so I don't think that it's really 1800 watts.
