This literally happened to me just an hour ago. Shit hurts so bad
That really sucks. Heal up well brother
Yeah it hurts so bad. I hope you recover quickly bruv. I recently tore some ankle ligaments in a basketball related sprain and it's one of the most painful things I can remember experiencing
Speedy recovery, bro.
I feel you, also recovering from the same injury
ankle circles, can begin them 3 to 5 days after injury. stop if sharp pain, keep going if dull pain. buy some therabands or cheap bands that are like 2 to 3 inches wide, very stretchy, and tie them around your ankle many times. do the ankle circles with those. it's called flossing. then single leg pogo hops in every direction. kneesovertoesguy has a good ankle sprain protocol. all of these worked for me, pure rest never worked but only lengthened the recovery process. I'm a dedicated hooper who had a grade 2 ankle sprain in 2020 and re-aggravated it 3 times in 2021 and 2022.
U been spot on with NBA players recovery time so I trust your expertise.
He was right about Zion too
he got KATs recovery time wrong though.
@Carlo Miguel Lee tbf every day it looks more and more like the Timberwolves lied about KAT's injury
@Carlo Miguel Leewolves said kat had suffered a grade 2 strain… a couple days ago kat said it was grade 3, so who’s lying then😭😟
the importance of credibility.
I hope he has a good and speedy recovery it sucks seeing players get injured
Hope Brody gets a speedy recover. This is a genuine question. Has Dr. Brian ever gotten an injury diagnosis wrong? Like I remember when everyone was wondering what could’ve happened to Demar Hamlin (praying he fully recovers soon) you were the only person who was spot on. Thank you so much for your videos as they have taught me a lot and always keep me up to date.
For giannis' overextension last year he said he would most likely be out for a while but giannis was just build too different.
@Bob Dog one of the greatest moments I've seen in nba history.
People like to hype the jordan flu game. But that was topped by kobe refusing to be Jalen Rosed. And then topped by Giannis hyperextension series to close out the suns
@ManzI will never forget that. Dude's knee bent the WRONG direction and he was still scoring 50 point games
@Bob Dog he probably should of been. There is no doubt in my mind Gianni’s got some cordozone shots to finish the playoffs
@GhostTheRipper cortisone btw
My initial thought was a peroneal tendon tear. These videos been helping me understand injuries so well. Truly amazing work doc
nahh, tore both of mine and had no idea, kept playing until it did start to hurt too much. Although I do have a very high pain tolerance so, I guess it's possible.
I played a lot of sports in the backyard or at the park and it seems like the majority of injuries that I've had in my life have been to my legs knees ankles etc.
I'll be the first to tell you that I know very little when it comes to the medical field but the simple way that you explained such complex things is very easy to digest and understand. You definitely get me thinking! Love it!
Hi Dr Brian, any thoughts on the management of Edwin Diaz in the Puerto Rico vs Dominican Rep WBC game? It infuriated me that the coaches tried to pick him up and carry him off the field supporting him under the knees, before putting him in a wheelchair, even though it was after the game and there was no rush to move him.
You have these videos out practically as the players on being helped off the court. Impressive! Love hearing your take on these injuries always great information.
my worst feeling ankle sprain was like this one, from the angle of OVER the last two toes instead of the usual side one. I've NEVER felt a worst one, and i've had plenty of "regulars" before..I'm guessing its because its such a different motion that you don't have ANY "catch/anticipation" while its happening to somewhat soften the blow. The good part was that my motion while healing was A LOT better than the "regular ones"
Hopefully hes okay
A really bad sprained will cause you to feel dizzy for a minute while the rush to the injured part of the body is so strong. That's why you might see some players cover their heads and or faces for a minute...
I’ve had 2 or 3 bad sprains and probably 10 minor ones. The bad ones are excruciating, explosive pain. If feels like you you broke or tore everything in your ankle. It can take over a month to feel better to the poor of playing again, but the pain is manageable after about 1-2 weeks from my experience.
Did you ice down the ankle right away? 1-2 weeks after seems a little long for pain.
@birdy808 depends on severity
Grade 3 maybe
I honestly think he is an explosive, young player who has managed to not have too many injuries and now he's experiencing them at the peak of his athleticism with the most force possible and its all just new to him getting hurt at these speeds, so I hope/think he's be playing within a week or 2 and that's like being cautious ⚠️
Oooof that replay is brutal, it looks like he rolled it twice in the same play. Hoping he has a speedy recovery. Thanks Doc.
Hey Doc, I know you did a video on Lonzo ball's injury history, but now that they announced that he is having a third knee surgery, this time a cartilage transplant. Can you discuss the surgery and potential recovery timelines. Hoping that Lonzo can eventually make it back into the NBA.
A cartilage transplant that’s not good….
@Marlo Joseph yea….lo so might be done for good
Hey, he just posted a video covering this the other day I think
@COYOTE LITTLE Ye cartilage that’s basically what happened to B Roy
Sucks because dude didn’t miss an entire game this season.
He never misses games
I hope he has a quick recovery. Unfortunately tonight's loss probably put the nail in the coffin for the Wolves' season
By far the worst injury I had in sports was landing on someone's foot going full speed and tore tendons on the inside and outside. My God it hurt and foot, literally my whole foot turned dark purple and stayed that way for months.
When I hear an injury happen I always wait to see if you upload, ur great at keeping us posted 👍🏻
hey Brain, thanks for the video. Recently, Paul Pierce clarified the air about his injury from back in the 2008 finals. Can you do a video on gastrointestinal issues among elite athletes who engage in intense training?
Paul Pierce was never in shape tho 😂
Ankles are like your nuts so Important yet so fragile get well soon Ant🙏🏾
Damn that’s deep
@Soon Yew 💀💀💀
most people who teach arent very engaging but man you make me wanna learn more about injuries great vid man
Out for the season for sure. Doesn't really matter what the timetable is. Just hope it's not a long term injury that affects him for years to come. That's about it. That's a lot of force coming down on his ankle based on the way he was moving and the way the ankle turned. Literally all of the force was put into that ankle.
This is similar to how I injured my ankle and ended up with tight rope surgery. Landed on someone’s foot coming down from a rebound and my ankle had a loud pop and immediate swelling.
Hate the ankle injuries. I can feel Anthony pain. Thanks.
This was great. Happy to have stumbled across your videos just now. Will be looking forward to more and might have to back track... nothing like free medical school!
I had paraniel tendon surgery a few years ago that crossed in front of the fibula. It took me over a year to get back to normal. Just 6 months to walk post surgery
I had a grade 3 sprain some years ago while out running. Was running down stairs full speed and my foot caught the edge of the last stair. I suffered a full inversion sprain and heard a loud crack; was later told that was the ligament ripping apart.
Whenever I see ankle injuries now I immediately cringe. And like anything else in life, experience brings a lot of knowledge with it. It took me a full year to get back to running and several more years for the stiffness to disappear. I could probably write a book about the whole long ordeal, including the mistakes made along the way that delayed my recovery.
How many day swelling stop
@BIKRAM DAS several days depending on severity
Thank you Dr.Brian amazing content
I have been dealing with ankle injury all my life. I was life Steph every time you turn around I had one. It started when I was young playing football and got tackle and the guy twisted my ankle as he was tackling me. Then playing basketball I would all way roll it on someone I'm playing against. Then after I turn 18 I went and got a job and I will turn my ankle on rocks or any little thing. To this day I'm 58 I still tend to turn my ankle just by going on a daily walk. I seem like I can not win that battle.
It’s shame especially since he’s been such a healthy player throughout his career
There goes ate season.. hope he gets well quick
I broke a growth plate in my ankle coming down on someone’s foot in the off season in the middle of my 8th and 9th grade year. The pain was bad, heard a pop and was screaming. Unfortunately my father was old school, told me you’re alright get up and walk it off, of course I couldn’t do that was hopping and skipping all over the place. Parents took me to the hospital the next day, was in a cast for 2or 3 months I think. High school basketball didn’t go as planned, was plagued by ankle and knee problems and didn’t get along with the head coach. The injury was around 2003-2004, and I didn’t get taller, I was 6”3 when this happened.
Used to roll my ankle like that pretty often when I was a young hooper. He'll be fine in 2-3 weeks
Skateboarder? :) if so I know what you mean
Damn speedy recovery youngin
Ankle sprains are severely pain . Being flat foot had them often
Get well Ant ☹️🙏🏽
Would be good to know your thoughts on best recovery protocols and exercises to help strengthen it. I just sprained my ankle quite badly and everyone was telling me things associated with the RICE protocol which I had heard is not supported by science anymore? (Will have to check and see if you have discussed this on your channel before)
the craziest thing, during all star weeknd he was just saying he doesn't get injured and he thinks the players should just play, not saying this affects that, but it sucks that right after that this happens
I've sprained my ankle several times every time it hurt like hell
Looking at the replays, I didn't think it was that bad, just in a lot of pain. I roll my ankle all the time. Lol.
Can you do a video on Edwin Diaz?. the player that got injured while celebrating a victory with Puerto Rico during the WBC
Like your med-advise, Doc. Edwards looked like he was in a lot of pain.
Doctor Brian can you conduct an analysis on how modern day sport shoes increase the likelihood of injuries to athletes.
That thing ain’t no joke, the first time I twist my ankle like this landing on someone foot I almost cried I thought I wouldn’t walk again, now if I twist my ankle I know it’s gon hurt I just limp myself out
Which isn't necessarily a good thing to walk off an ankle twist
That has been my experience as well. I’ll never forget my first ankle sprain, especially that awful sensation of the top of my foot rolling all the way over until it was touching the ground - it makes me shiver just to think about it. In the moment right after it happened I remember thinking that surely I had just snapped every structure in my ankle. But anyway, I went on to sprain that same ankle on two other occasions and neither of those were even remotely close to the first in terms of acute pain.
I have curry ankles, I’ll get sprains fairly often playing basketball I have foot drop from a hip flexor injury I never have sprains before it so I tend to end up either tripping on my feet not picking up all the way or by just pure back luck I end up stepping on peoples feet, I can attest they are indeed extremely painful the first few minutes, I’ve sprained a ankle mid game screamed so loud I could hear mothers in the crowd say “ oh my god is he ok” and then 15 minutes later ice me up tape me up and I can spot up the whole game and just shoot won’t be able to do much else tho absolute come on defense
Ankle sprains are painful 😓 especially when you land on someone’s foot.
I hope he's still 80% so he can still play and no load management for the rest of the year 😊
Pretty sure load managing can cause more injuries
Thats not load managing though, its an injury. Load management is stuff like sitting out on back to backs
@2RU if it leads to more injuries and losing then they're doing load management wrong.
@NogginEgg hope that his sprain won't damage him by 20% so he won't be needing that load management
Damn it. There goes our star. Won't get close to winning without the main scorer
Landing and all that weight on the ankle is painful. Had it many times in high school and is painful but healed up a couple of days
I tore both my peroneal tendons, left one was a minor tear, right one had 2 longitudinal tears. Painful, but I would've expected a tendon tear to be much more painful. I assumed I just sprained both ankles, not a tear, but with that said I still definitely wouldn't recommend this injury.
NO MINNESOTA FANS HAVE HAD ENOUGH THIS YEAR 😭😭😭
Just this year???
now you know how us magic fans feel. we've dealt with it for years and years
@Daniel Craiguhm no. Have you seen the vikings dude? Plus the magic have a better win% all time than us
The Magic will be back soon.
@King Dino Dragonite don't even remind me of them I had Thielen's jersey on when they released him lmao
Pressed shirt, clean tie. Doc is ready to drop some game. 📝
Pressed shirt, clean tie, no pants
@Griff Hawkins lol, you should see me at work lol. Dress shirt or polo. And joggers. They only see me from the chest up.
I had a lot of sprains. I had a torn acl, i had an ankle sprain, but ankle sprain is the worst.. the recovery is not as bad as the acl tear, but the initial pain is soooooooo severe.
ruptured my peroneal brevis, tore all right ankle ligaments, and had a bone spir that all needed surgery to correct it. most painful injury I've ever experienced
Could you please do the Edwin Diaz injury after he celebrated winning against the Dominican Republic in the World Baseball Classic?
In Dr. B we trust.
I sprained both my ankles once each and badly.....my first, the right one was coming down with a rebound and my foot came down on someone else's foot and it rolled and I went to sit down asap.....
I got dizzy a few minutes afterwards.....and boy it swelled up fast. I had to loosen my sneaker fast, I couldn't plant on it for a out 3-4 days.....and a total of 6-7 being bruised badly....
But after spraining each ankle badly once thank God I haven't sprained it ever since.....actually they have felt a bit stronger....but one thing I do is soak it in Epsom salt for a week about twice a day in hot water.....and once you can move it always exercise it when you have time. Like move it around, it will give it much more mobility and prevent any future serious sprains...
Do you think there would be less ankle injuries if players went back to high tops?
iv gotten an ostecondral bone defect from an ankle injury, had to get my ankle completely cleaned out, hope ANT gets better
2:15 "...having more of a significant reaction up front, then what it actually turned out to be"
Thanks Doc, I'll remember this verbiage when I'm intelligently trying to tell one of the fellas to stop acting like a b****😁
Can you do a breakdown on the Edwin diaz injury doc, thanks!
people yell because they can feel shit in their leg popping or tearing. I'm an injury yeller too (not to this extreme) because I am super aware when something doesn't feel right. I tore 6 tendons in my ankle playing basketball but i think that took me like a little over two months to get back to 100% which isn't too bad all things considered. that was a grade 3 sprain
Prayers up!!! And I’m a KINGS fan..
Hope he’s okay
It looks like upon landing on Vucevic's heel and his subsequent lifting of that heel also could've impacted the flex of Edwards' ankle
I hope our franchise player is okay. This didn’t look good at all
It doesn’t seem to be that severe because he doesn’t land from a very high place ( like a dunk attempt )
But when he screams like that makes you scared if something happened.
Hope it’s not that bad but If he is out for weeks Timberwolves might be out of the playoffs.
Hey Brian, can you please do a review on Edwin Diaz knee injury at the WBC?
Also need a break down on what happened to Edwin Diaz
He did not play again in the game. He came back to sit on the bench in a walking boot. It ended up being one heck of a game with the Bulls winning in double overtime
Shouldn’t they ice it and elevate it first if it’s a sprain 🤔
LBJ got injured,, and yet he finish the game,,,but after that he cannot play until,,,bcoz to much pain of course,,,,,but Edwards can't finish the game,,,how long his missing the game?????? When he can back or return????
He was questionable to return to the game. And he came back out on the bench in a boot and was able to put weight on it
Doc, is it possible that the vein or artery can be affected by an ankle sprain?
I was thinking it looks worse than it is, was waiting for your expertise though 😂
Who else watching this with a sprained ankle ? 😢
Years ago when I was a teen I had a bball injury similar to this where I ran the length of the court trying to get to a long pass and ended up landing on a foot, rolling it, and a player falling on me. My foot went super blue very quickly as it turned out besides the ankle fracture, I had ruptured a main nerve? Recovery was long. Ever see or hear of that before?
Hey doc awesome video. Right on he stepped on that players foot.. I just wonder if he scream because he had a nerve that was pinched
Dr., can you comment on Mets and PR National Team’s pitcher Edwin Diaz’s injury?
Tear my Achilles completely. It hurts so freaking bad nd it took forever to heal, still to this day I always have pain and soreness.
The gray tie coordinating w the gray sleeve interior is a superb outfit detail. Thank you for the informative vid
Damn Edwards being Edwards..
Doc with the "Overdramatitis" diagnosis on Edward's 😂 .
Also impingement for dummies is..like a rope stuck in a closed door...
It's only "just an ankle sprain" when it happens to someone else Doc. It can feel like someone cut your ankle with a knife.
Lord, have mercy. These injury clips are sometimes…just too traumatic
When he lands it looks like his foot has an inward flex and then as the foot do the other player moves it allowed his weight to compress his foot down and finally flex outward; hope it isn’t a tendon issue.
Can you make a video on the Edwin Diaz knee injury from the World Baseball Classic?
Baseball videos have a very high chance of getting blocked :/
@Brian Sutterer MDwhy is that?
legendary uploads as always.
Vucevic ALWAYS sticks his foot out for a player to land on his boats and roll an ankle
I did this years ago before a vacation on the beach. The carpet in the condo we were renting was really thick/soft and I kept rolling it on the damn carpet. Every time I got up to get something I dreaded crossing the carpet too the kitchen. Worst vacation ever. 😂
Lmaoo bruh why ya ankles so fragile ? But no ankle rolls/ sprains the worse o had one so bad I was in an air cast I heard something pop and all
@PudgePudge215 LOL They was at the time I was like 15. I haven't had a bad roll like that since but if it happens at 38 I'm done hooping. 🤣
@Lemini4K 😭 praying for ya ankles fella
Could you do a video on Edwin Diaz?
Basketball gods dont want us to enjoy the playoffs :(
they should be doing an on the spot ultrasound, can give you a good idea and be done instantly in the locker room
Would hate to have to deal with that dude during a "man flu" episode lol
Do one with Edwin Diaz at the wbc
"Have you considered that you are faking it?"
The screaming starts the healing process, repetitive screams speed this process up! Also add for dramatic effect.
Edwards was initially ruled Questionable to return but after halftime was ruled Out. Is that a good sign being that he first was ruled questionable?
Ant has also returned to the wolves bench in street clothes
Probably just ruled questionable so the medical staff didn't look dumb in the tiny chance he did get back in the game. I'd be surprised if he plays again in the regular season with how much pain he seemed to be in
NOOOOO, not my boy Ant!
It's about their pain tolerance. Are they a big baby or not? Give the exact same injury to Tim Duncan and he won't even react. Edwards is a great player but he overreacts dramatically to the slightest pain. It was mentioned in the video.
Hey doc I got in a fight and on my right hand It hurts below my pinky knuckle; think it may be a boxer fracture but not felling anything when I touch/ grab the injury. Could it be just a sprain/muscle injury and not a bone injury
lakers moving up to 7th soon hopefully. Edwards get well at your own pace
Still can’t believe we rested AD vs the Rockets. Easy W if he plays
Brother there is a time and a place but it ain't here
Appreciate you bro
