I had no history of ankle injuries previous to suffering a clean open dislocation of my ankle. I wasn't sure if I would play again after taking a year off to rehab. I found the A2-DX after researching what Curry used since he still seemed shifty with them on. Picked up a pair since I knew I'd feel like an idiot if I only wore one and hurt the unprotected ankle. Maybe it was all in my head, but the confidence they gave me was astounding. I've worn them for 4+ years now and don't feel restricted at all on the court. I recommend them to anyone that will listen. Glad to see your review and approval!

Had a grade 2 left ankle sprain on both my CFL and PTFL last August. Really had a bad fall. Took about a month to recover, was ready to play by the start of september. Scar tissue grew around the area so it still kinda hurts when hooping. The zamst braces are hard to come by in my area but luckily there were similar braces worth $10 that I could cop. Been using them every time and never looked back since.
Side note: been using the WOW Fission 8 for hooping as well, and the lockdown has been phenomenal when coupled with the braces.

I guess I'd rather buy 2 of these but prioritize my right ankle first. Ever since I sprained my right ankle badly in a soccer/football game, it swelled big. This I think caused more sprains (3 times at least for the last 7-10 years?). Most recent is just a month ago playing basketball.
I can't even remember spraining my left ankle but I'd rather keep it at that than make it as worse as my right ankle.

Very curious to hear about your opinions on achilles tendonopathy as well as potential ruptures. I've noticed ruptures happen at extreme dorsiflexion and a straight leg (drop steps, etc.). Wondering if an ankle brace would limit this movement?

Just sharing a piece of advice for my fellow 35+ players with a history of ankle breaks and sprains: Look into and find a doctor that specializes in Platelet-Rich Plasma therapy. The procedure is painful, but it's quick - and works. I've suffered complete grade 3 tears on both ankles, but the first happened when I was about 20. Youth and genetics helped that one heal just fine over time, but my last one happened to the other ankle last year at 44... and it was NOT a pleasant experience. The swelling remained for months, couldn't run, let alone walk fast... until I got that PRP shot. Along with this brace, my ankle was able to heal quickly and it definitely beats having to go through surgery and another 6 months of recovery and therapy. I rarely feel the need to wear it anymore and have been playing full court games on a regular basis ever since I've gone this route. I can't detail the science behind it... but I'm thankful for it every day I walk onto a court to hoop at 45!

I’m actually pretty lucky where the worst injury or on par with the worst injuries I’ve had has been a sprained ankle, however when I did sprain my ankle it was this loud pop and I had thought that my ankle broke or something. I wished I had known about these types of braces since my biomechanics changed as I trained to compensate using my other leg and that one got sprained a couple of times. But instead of wearing braces I’ve been just strengthening the muscles and ligaments around my ankle and the surrounding muscles that are connected. Since I’ve rolled my ankle numerous times now, but it’s never been bad and I’ve just tried to be mindful of how I land or twist instead.

This brace A2-DX and the Don joy velocity ES and MS have been the best braces and most comfortable to wear for long periods , the Don joy is not being made any more so all you can get hold of is old stock , and it is really hard to get hold of the brace in my size , so have been using the A2-DX , for the last 10 months. I’ve had this brace ever since then and when I go stretches without using it I tend to re-sprain my ankle eventually. I swear by this brace after a really bad sprain on the same ankle last August. Be careful not to go too tight on the strap. This depends on the shoe, but it could lead to some shin pain.

I just actually broke/fractured/discolored my ankle all at once playing basketball. Sounds crazy but I can’t wait to be back on the court and just want a little guidance on what can help me when I do get back from rehabilitation.

As someone who’s injured my ankle twice, dislocated shoulder, and had a MCL/ACL Sprain is listen to your body. If you feel pain doing something stop and allow time to heal. Many people try to rush their recovery and end up worse than before the injury

I am 2 weeks post a grade 2+ lateral ankle sprain, peroneal tendon tear, and small avulsion fractures medial and lateral. I've been in the boot for these past two weeks, but it is very uncomfortable. Would this brace make for a suitable alternative to the boot for daily use while at work?

I've rolled my ankle a few times, but only really sprained once (I'm 15 now). I've been told that wearing braces because they give extra feedback to brain, cause the ligaments, tendons, etc, to become weaker? Is this true or is it just something that seems true at face value? I assume that braces only to be worn by people with persistent ankle difficulties and not by someone with a "normal" ankle.

I can’t even remember how many times i’ve sprained my left ankle, the last one was a pretty bad one with a dislocation and even broke my medial malleolus i had to go trough surgery and now i have 2 surgical pins there… i’m still recovering from that injury, do you think this brace will be a right option for me to prevent future injuries?? Cause now i’m scare to even walk on the street

i fractured my ankle before in snowboarding. I wish I can wear a brace inside a snowboard boot, but it just won't fit. Snowboard boot supposed to fit very snuggly. The brace will just give pressure point, and i lose blood circulation.

I sprained my ankle at the University of San Francisco in 1965 playing with my roommate who was on scholarship from Chicago. We scrimmaged with the freshman team after the San Francisco warriors finished their practice that day. Being that the warriors I just finished practice the student health service clinic had their trainers and the team physician there working on the warrior players. When I came in the clinic, the team physician looked at my ankle and the first thing he said was I should have broken it…I said what. He said that all the ligaments were torn and that it would’ve been better to break it because the bones would heal but not the ligaments. A few years later I was in great shape when I went to Boot Camp in the army came in like number two in my platoon for the mile run, but when I went on a forced march with a platoon, I lagged behind about 20 yards, because the ankle was so weak and I was hobbling all around. Good thing I never went into combat.

Biggest issue in my opinion is the bigger the sole the more unstable your ankles actually become. Since moving to a 4mm-7mm bottom+sole, iv never had more stability in my ankles. Sure they took time getting used but im never wearing shoes with any sort of soles in them.

If anyone has time for some recommendations for me? :
I played volleyball for 1 year. And have had two minor ankle injuries on the same foot.
First one, I got back after 5 days.
The one I have now is a bit worse, - Could walk fine after 2 days, on day 4 now still feels weak, but can probably jog no problem. Do not wanna push it but feels like I could do quick movements if I wanted (with compression bandage) A bit swollen still, no blue marks, does not hurt when I touch the joints or bone, just a little bit if I push hard, or stretch it hard (I try not to do that)
So I think maybe I should start wearing a light or medium ankle brace for that foot.
Also I only train leg press. I do not train ANY balance or ankle thing on balance board etc, so that is probably huge upgrade for me.
