The argument itself isn't wrong.... they're just misusing it. There are plenty of laws, as an officer, that I think are silly- but they were lawfully voted in, and they don't violate the constitution.... I enforce those laws- when I have to. THIS though, is them saying they agree that it's a stupid law, AND an unlawful one- but they're still going to enforce it..... that's when you have minions.... that's when you have nazi soldiers saying they "were just following orders". There is a big difference between enforcing something that you think is a silly law, versus enforcing something you think is an unlawful law.

The woven web of bureaucracy aside, the Federal government, particularly the executive branch in isolation, will never legitimately have the power to self-dictate the limits of their power. Their attempts to do so in [current year] and for over a hundred years at this point can't ever really obfuscate that a government whose executive has all the power to execute AND all the power to dictate limits invalidates itself and reduces our relationship to one of guaranteed mutual tyranny/strife. But that wasn't really their choice, they just needed to do it to keep their jobs. There was no real attempt at intimidating the guy, no illegal detention, no threats of arrest, etc... So, yes, in this case, being polite is the correct response. However, there are plenty of times where telling the police to eat a bag of pickles is the correct response. If a person behaves respectfully, you *should* treat them respectfully. Things usually go better that way. If you're being disrespected, you should treat them with absolutely zero respect. For example, if you're filming in public and police tell you to stop, you should absolutely tell them to kick rocks. If they continue, you should feel free to exercise your freedom of speech and really let them have it. As long as you aren't breaking the law, let a dirty cop arrest or detain you illegally and then make the department pay for it in court later. And if you are treated so badly that you can strip them of their QI, that's even better. Attach yourself to their bank accounts, if you're able to. Bad cops deserve no less than that.

You handled that perfectly. Few people would have known how to handle it. You never confirmed (or denied) that you purchased or had any of these triggers in your possession and made it clear that if they asked you if you purchased or had any of them that you would not be answering these questions. Basically you were letting them know that if they had evidence that you were in possession of an unlawful firearm then they need to get a warrant to seize it, which they can't because their "rule change" is NOT law. They can make all the "rules" they want to but until it becomes "law" then all they can do is try to "trick" people into going along. Unfortunately, most people just go ahead and turn over what the ATF asked for because they think they have no choice.

Handled absolutely brilliantly!!! He did not fall into their trap of admitting that he was refusing to comply with their request. All he said was "I can't help you with what your looking for." Can you imagine if the police and ATF starting going to everyones doors and making a statement that "we know that what you are doing is illegal, if you just admit it and come with us it will be much better for you" without every producing a document from a court - such as a warrant - which it appears they did not have one here.

@@caesarselfreliance.4081 Depends on the scenario. In this case, the officers were not doing anything inappropriate, apart from the theft they were ordered to attempt. But that wasn't really their choice, they just needed to do it to keep their jobs. There was no real attempt at intimidating the guy, no illegal detention, no threats of arrest, etc...
So, yes, in this case, being polite is the correct response. However, there are plenty of times where telling the police to eat a bag of pickles is the correct response. If a person behaves respectfully, you *should* treat them respectfully. Things usually go better that way. If you're being disrespected, you should treat them with absolutely zero respect.
For example, if you're filming in public and police tell you to stop, you should absolutely tell them to kick rocks. If they continue, you should feel free to exercise your freedom of speech and really let them have it. As long as you aren't breaking the law, let a dirty cop arrest or detain you illegally and then make the department pay for it in court later. And if you are treated so badly that you can strip them of their QI, that's even better. Attach yourself to their bank accounts, if you're able to. Bad cops deserve no less than that.

Wow! It's amazing how the ATF turned into law makers, judge and jury whilst you're following the law and assisting law enforcement.

You handled that perfectly. Few people would have known how to handle it. You never confirmed (or denied) that you purchased or had any of these triggers in your possession and made it clear that if they asked you if you purchased or had any of them that you would not be answering these questions. Basically you were letting them know that if they had evidence that you were in possession of an unlawful firearm then they need to get a warrant to seize it, which they can't because their "rule change" is NOT law. They can make all the "rules" they want to but until it becomes "law" then all they can do is try to "trick" people into going along. Unfortunately, most people just go ahead and turn over what the ATF asked for because they think they have no choice.

Handled absolutely brilliantly!!! He did not fall into their trap of admitting that he was refusing to comply with their request. All he said was "I can't help you with what your looking for." Can you imagine if the police and ATF starting going to everyones doors and making a statement that "we know that what you are doing is illegal, if you just admit it and come with us it will be much better for you" without every producing a document from a court - such as a warrant - which it appears they did not have one here.
I like how she went from "you're not in trouble if you have them" to " just so you know, if you have them you are breaking the law". Also, the guy says "so you won't hand over the TRIGGERS" right after they just referred to them as "machine guns". They were definitely there to hang you out to dry.
