Got my 04 VT1100C December 15, 2014 with ONLY 2800 miles on it. Commute 150 miles/day (Wilmington Delaware - Baltimore) all year round. It just turned 51,500 miles (November 2017). Got a huge windshield and hand deflectors for 30F weather. Electric gloves make it possible too. Guy I bought it from let it sit for 10 years in garage. Carbs rebuilt, ran like new. I change oil every 3K like religion. Change shaft oil every 3rd oil change. Changed tires, battery, breaks, air filter, and plugs, as required. My ride is almost all I95. It is most comfortable bike I ever had. It cruises easily at 72-75 MPH, BUT 80 is no sweat. Also, it is small enough to run round-town errands for work. It has never let me down but it owes me nothing if it did. It gets in the mid to high 40's for mpg which saves me lots of $. I'm not a show-off, Billy Badass Biker, or racer. Just a 60 year old commuter on a very reliable solid, easy to handle ride. I drool over new bikes but only have room for one 2-wheeled mistress. I'll keep her until death us do part! 😜
Taraxicum Officinale I have a 2001 Sabre 1100 love it! 30.000 miles still as reliable as Day I purchased it. I keep the service up on it. I’m 62 and have ridden all my life, had lots of bikes but I too think I’ll keep this one Too death does us apart.. p.s put a mustang seat on it a few years ago Love IT.
I am very glad to hear this. Just bought my first bike 2004 Sabre 1100 and I am really gratified to see how many people love them this passionately. I am really happy with the purchase so far. Low cost, only 9800 miles on it and very well maintained.
Bought my 1999 honda shadow spirit 1100 with 7300miles for $2950 just over a month ago. Absolutely love it. Its nearly pristine and Ive enjoyed every minute on it. Loads of power when you want it but its great for country road cruising and so long you don't lug the motor it does really well with gas milage. *45-50mpg at around 55mph*. Exactly as Sean says...handle bars may look goofy to some but its comfortable and the suspension is nice. Grease the gear splines everytime the rear tire is off *see manual for proper lubricants* moly60 I think. And along with regular oil/diff oil changes/normal maintenance this bike will last you a very long time.
Oh yes. I fell in love with mine, a 96 VT1100C Shadow. Got her back in '99 and still have her today. Sure she's showing her age a little now, but a new coat of paint and cleaning the carbs, she'll be a joy to ride for years to come.
One of the best bikes ever built. No, you don't need a tach, there's a rev limiter incase you over-rev it but you don't need to wind it out that far anyway. It's a great bike for long trips too. Very comfortable on the long haul. I do 5000+ mile trips on mine.
@@danielhristov6175 Very similar actually accept the Honda is water cooled and has a bit more horsepower and 3 valves per cyl. I would take the honda over the Yamaha.

You're right Sean the Honda Shadow 1100 are awesome bikes.I currently ride a Honda Shadow Sabre 2005 model 1100 cc bike. And I absolutely love it. It's got more power than an old man needs. LOL. Take care man and be safe.

I have the 04 shadow sabre. My trade up from the honda shadow vlx 600 as a starter bike, just too small. Game changer. I am 5 ft 9 inches, and a female biker.
I was getting a slight hesitation sometimes when I opened the throttle quickly on my 2000 Sabre 1100; so I changed my 24-year-old fuel filter and it doesn't do that anymore. The fuel filter's under the airbox. The way you access it is by removing the rear tire and disconnecting the lower bolts on the rear shock absorbers so you can lower the swing arm to reach it. I can see why no one changed it sooner (I'm the third owner), it's so labor-intensive, but what a difference in performance, instant throttle response. The only reason I did it was, I was putting a new tire on it anyway.
I have a Honda Shadow Sabre VT 1100 C2 . I bought it with 500 miles on the clock for about $4,000 . 35,000 miles later she still runs like a clock . I do like the Sabre a little better because it has the lower gearing .
The Sabre looks nicer but I like the Spirit more because of the higher gearing gets better gas mileage at highway speeds and the engine is not screaming. Has 14% higher gear ratio.
Like you said, that really IS an "ideal" handle bar angle. Looks odd! lol But FEELS 100% natural. Like pointing a 1911 .45 pistol does. :-D So glad to see yall getting the new shop set up. Im 64, has enough power and remarkable cornering for me. 50+ mpg Canada gallons. Im gonna ride her into the ground. Honda really does build a better product. Well it did 20 yrs ago at least.
Handle bars look like buck horns, had them on my 76 Sportster, about the only thing I didn't change . Great handle bars, I sure dont think they look goofy more classic.
Looking into getting one of these. My only concern are the handle bars. I’ve only had a HondaXR650L, so I’m not use to a cruiser style at all, let alone those style of bars. Thoughts?
I see that you do not like to use your turn signals. To me, riding a MC and not using turn signals is...not real safe. I wish the HWY PATROL could ticket every person in every vehicle that does not use turn signals.
Bought the year 2000 model of this bike last summer 8400 miles very clean . After a few rides over a time span of about a month it started running bad.really loves the choke and at one point the heat came on . Think its running lean.
Also, you may want to run non ethanol fuel. I just sold a 1985 1100 (first year they built the shadow in 1100), and bought on just like this. Essentially exactly like this. I'm moving the rear signals to the license plate frame (kit job), and putting full-sized saddlebags on it. I'm also putting a full-size windshield (because I'm an old fart and don't like the wind any more -- 6 eye surgeries does that). Also, I just added a tachometer to mine. It's getting sweeter every day. The odometer didn't work when I got it so I bought a new speedometer off eBay and took the guts out of it and put them on this bike. I have no idea how many miles this bike has. It's not on the original rubber, so I suspect it's in the high 30s to mid 40s... I messed up the wiring though, and the signals aren't working, so gotta figure out how I did that. I did the same mods to the old bike and had no problems at all. Somebody cut the seat, so I will either fork out a C-note for an eBay used seat, or patch it with a vinyl patch kit I have laying around. It's a heat activated kit, so it would do the job quite will, or so I've heard. Any opinions would be welcome. I have a video on my youtube channel (This Old Man 1955) about what I've done so far, so leave a comment there about what you think. I don't mention the seat in it, maybe... Hmmm. That is a part 1, so when I'm done I'll post the part 2 finish video. Love the bike though. I've ridden it a lot already, until this winter. It's garaged and in my working area. My wife has me doing sos many projects I don't know when I can finish it. Gotta do it though.
That's a beautiful new shop Sean. I was hoping you'd get a new shop and especially a new test ride route. Get those bikes out on the open road! It also helps if you say how many rpms it's rolling at 60-65 mph. Safe riding
These bikes don't come with a tach, so you have to put an aftermarket tach on it. This is just like the one I put on mine, but didn't pay near as much for it (that's the Harley market for you): www.ebay.com/itm/NEW-CHROME-MINI-TACH-TACHOMETER-FOR-HARLEY-WITH-CLAMP-/361328955797?hash=item5420e25195 Check out part one of my mod vid on mine to see how I mounted it. I don't go into a lot of detail, but you can see it on the bar. My channel is This Old Man 1955
Looking at getting a used, 04 Shadow 1100 for $2500. Has about 70k on the odo. But seems quite solid. Getting one to replace my 08 Shadow 750 that got jacked a few weeks ago.
I just got a 2004 shadow 1100 and I don’t know if it’s the spirit or what… when I check the vin it says 2004 honda shadow 1100 But on online parts stores there are multiple choices and I don’t know which to choose. it will say honda shadow vt1100c A, AC etc. I don’t know how to check which it is
Just picked up one of these this past weekend, 2004 17k miles. it’s my first bike, now I’m having mixed thoughts about it. I’m 5”9’ and 230lbs. I got mixed rating for it being a first bike on some forums online saying it was a good one for a bigger person and not so much for a person that’s smaller and lighter. but then other saying it’s too much power and weight for anyone starting. What is your opinion? I still have time to get a smaller bike as Honda’s are easy to find in my area. Awesome video
IF !! Honda would revamp the shadow 1100 into a 1500 put a 6 speed behind it HD would be begging you just to walk into a dealership . The VTX was an absolutely bombshell to the bike market but the shadow was a timeless classic in the making.
Those engines are bullet proof too. I run mine 80 mph, all day long I have a '96 VT1100 with the 4 speed. The 5 speed didn't come out until 1997. Been all over the US on mine and would do it again. If anything needs to be improved on these bikes is the charging system has a piss poor regulator. I changed mine to a Mosfet regulator and it charges better. Sends more juice to the battery and run a hell of a lot cooler than the stock regulator did. That's about the only thing that needed any improvement on mine. I still have the original brake pads on mine (front and rear) with 62,000 miles on it. That bike is well worth the $2500 asking price and it will last you the rest of your life!!
Good lord those handlebars look like ram horns.... and that thing seems extra slow...ive seen vstar 650s that are quicker. Another great vid man, that thing is gonna last forever I bet
Srkcycles yeah but what about the part that those handlebars look like some damn ram horns? Very interesting in a bad way..shit gives me the willys... 😂😂

You guys are awesome thanks for the videos! This one in particular definitely help me out I just purchased my first motorcycle just so happens to be a 2005 Honda shadow spirit 1100. Got a great deal on it it only has 4900 miles on it. We are in 2020 amazing.
I'm looking at a 2002 Honda Shadow Spirit 1100 with only 7270 miles on it for $2250 It will be my first bike. I'm 5'10 214lbs hoping it's not too big for a first bike.
Looking at a 2003 totally loaded out with all kinds of extras, new tires, new wind shield, new carb rebuild; the guy is asking $3,200. I’m Concerned about the age and replacement parts made specific for that year. Any advice or tips or. Heads up will be appreciated.
Hey can anyone in the comments give me a few pointers to look out for with a Shadow 1100? Like years that have bad things about them, good mile/year outlook. Anything you guys can help with would be cool. 🤙🏼
Get he Spirit (97-07) or the Sabre. I like the Spirit as it is the only bike that does best at highway speeds 14% higher gearing than all the others. If you just want low speed power than get the Sabre.
Just the regulator as Painter D mentioned above and new rubber boots if you remove the carbs is all I've heard of. The gearing on my Spirit is fine and has plenty of power at 70+
Jared Young I know you're not really asking me but I was asking myself the same question a few months ago before deciding on the Shadow. Reasons being: the Shadow has a bit more torque even though it shares the same cc's as the Yamaha, it requires less maintenance (shaft drive vs belt drive on the Yamaha), and oil changes are a lot easier, because you need to remove the entire exhaust pipe assembly in order to reach the oil filter (on the Yamaha). That being said, the V star wins in the style department. Not gonna lie there. Ultimately it depends on what you're looking for out of your bike. Want to look awesome? Yamaha. Want a bike you don't need to wrench on as often? Honda. Hope this helps.
It's a valid opinion! I think what I meant by V-Star winning in the style department really has to do with customization. Having owned the Shadow now for seven months, I can honestly say its very difficult to find parts for it, whereas the V-Stars seems to have custom parts made for them by the boatload. I get turned away from many stores simply because they don't have the parts for the Shadow! All in all though I'd still choose the Shadow any day of the week, it's a great machine that does almost everything well.
I have a VT1100 Shadow. I bought it brand new in 1993. 50000 K miles and I only had to replace a speedow wire during this 25 years period. Still running perfectly despite of his age.
The V-Star 1100 is known to have serious shaft issues after 20k miles. Odd, since Yamaha cruisers are known for superior reliability. To be fair, I'm a satisfied Honda Shadow Sabre 1100 owner., Great bike.
I have a 2003 1100 Shadow Spirit and this video is correct. I love my bike, smooth comfortable and has never once left me stranded. Its like riding a lazyboy recliner down the road. The 1100 engine has plenty of pep. I wish mine had a larger fuel tank and a gas gauge but its not hard to track your miles. It only has 6500miles on it and i have not intention of getting rid of anytime soon.
Funny you should say it's like a "lazy boy". I have a really bad lumbar, L4, L5 and S1 vertabre and I put a operator back support on mine, it cost about $150 but that did the trick. I said the same thing, the ride was already pretty good but when I did that it was like riding a "lazy boy". Great bike.
it's weird from you cam angle I just think the rebel ,but it's the shadow ,damn old cluster ,and those mirrors omg I hate them mine just vibratesthem self loose
I had just bought a 2004 Honda Shadow Spirit 1100 for $2,500 the guy was asking 32 with 12000 miles on it and it's blue which is my favorite color and it came with a windshield and that gohawk rb8 speaker which I don't like I can't hear anything at 60 miles an hour
Excuse me biker community, I'm sorry to bother you, but can some kind human give me the name of the handle on this Honda Shadow? I want to save it for when I purchase my first 1100cc bike (first bike in general). Thank you
Lee, I am 6"6' and this is one of the only bikes that fits me without having to do any mods or changes to. They are virtually maintenance free, have plenty of power and have so much clearance the only way you would ever scrap the foot pegs is if you actually lay the bike down flat on the road!! They are extremely enjoyable to ride and with the big oversized fat seat you can ride all day without any problems. They have forward controls so perfect for us tall guys.Go check one out, sit on it, get a feel for it, Highly recommended!Ride Safe.
I am 6'2" and about 250. Mine is a 1999, i think it's the ACE. It fits me well and the back bolster has decent support (i think it's the stock seat). I like it a lot.
I had a 750 Shadow, It is for short people (unless you add extended forward controls) my knees were always hitting the tank (probably because the seat on the 750 was about 2" shorter than the 1100) and I am only 5'10" the VT1100C was much more comfortable could stretch my legs out much better and not getting hit against the tank.
personally i like the 1100 better cuz the 750 just doesn’t have the power you want. i think they make somewhere in the neighborhood of 45 hrspwr which is decent but if you’re touring it can be buzzy.
They were ugly but great bikes with balls.I tore into it and changed bars rear fender seat lights plus clutch ,carbs,paint,lights...I haven't got to ride it yet...soon re a soon

great info thanks the new shop is near a highway
These bikes don't come with a tach, so you have to put an aftermarket tach on it. This is just like the one I put on mine, but didn't pay near as much for it (that's the Harley market for you): www.ebay.com/itm/NEW-CHROME-MINI-TACH-TACHOMETER-FOR-HARLEY-WITH-CLAMP-/361328955797?hash=item5420e25195
Check out part one of my mod vid on mine to see how I mounted it. I don't go into a lot of detail, but you can see it on the bar. My channel is This Old Man 1955
I have an 06 1100 spirit and its like you said, hard to beat considering everything
Looking at getting a used, 04 Shadow 1100 for $2500. Has about 70k on the odo. But seems quite solid. Getting one to replace my 08 Shadow 750 that got jacked a few weeks ago.
You can find a Shadow with way less miles than that for that price.
is it considered a fast bike?
I am ready to ride thank You God Bless
I just got a 2004 shadow 1100 and I don’t know if it’s the spirit or what… when I check the vin it says 2004 honda shadow 1100
But on online parts stores there are multiple choices and I don’t know which to choose. it will say honda shadow vt1100c A, AC etc. I don’t know how to check which it is
I would (8 days a week) rather have any xl1200 on earth before I ride one of those! Going hard 😅😂 No seriously, ya I meant what I said.
just got a 2007. loving it. 6500 miles.
How much did you pay for it?
@@Sicksporty72 $3750.00
@@jessecompestine7861 thanks. Yeah that’s a good deal!
How did the 1100 work out for you?
@@jba6677 wonderful, great starter bike for me. You just have to control yourself with the speed.
Just have to respect the throttle
@@fxrmike5145 yea that’s what I did, the power control needs to be practiced before being comfortable and is as important as practicing handling
IF !! Honda would revamp the shadow 1100 into a 1500 put a 6 speed behind it HD would be begging you just to walk into a dealership .
The VTX was an absolutely bombshell to the bike market but the shadow was a timeless classic in the making.
Hey man just curious as to why you never use your turn indicators?!
My 86 shadow 1100 is a 5 speed
Would it be too much too handle coming from dirt bikes? 250s and so on
Does anyone know if it’s a good size for a guy who’s 6ft tall ?
Yes it is. I'm 6 feet tall and it's very comfortable
Sean is over 6 foot, he seemed fine.
Hello.Want to buy cruiser and which is better, honda or yamaha?
I'm about to buy my first bike and one of these is for sale. is this recommend?
illcodino I ended up with a 2004 shadow sabre
These shadow sabress are awesome I got a 2005 sabre 1100 and really enjoy it.. Easier to maintain than a harley
I just bought a 1996 honda shadow 1100. Hopefully it's a good bike?
Good lord those handlebars look like ram horns.... and that thing seems extra slow...ive seen vstar 650s that are quicker. Another great vid man, that thing is gonna last forever I bet
no these are way faster than 650 v stars
Srkcycles yeah but what about the part that those handlebars look like some damn ram horns? Very interesting in a bad way..shit gives me the willys... 😂😂
@@doylee469 if it's confortable, it's a great set of bars. Now, the massive ape hangers on some bikes? Your arms fall asleep after a good little minute
My '07 model is bullet-proof; excellent all 'rounder.
Omg!! Now I'm pissed off I just paid 3500 for a 2003 750 shadow spirit. Daaaammmmmittttt!!!!!
I paid 2800 for my 04 spirit 1100 a month ago
@@aaronhemphill2099 picking an 01 up this weekend for 2K
Would this be a fine starter bike
You guys are awesome thanks for the videos! This one in particular definitely help me out I just purchased my first motorcycle just so happens to be a 2005 Honda shadow spirit 1100. Got a great deal on it it only has 4900 miles on it. We are in 2020 amazing.
How much did you get it for? ‘
Jose Mora-Calderon $3000
Looking at an 03 with 5300 miles for 2250, if i can get the guy to message me back!
Justin Johnson I got an 04 with 9k miles
I'm looking at a 2002 Honda Shadow Spirit 1100 with only 7270 miles on it for $2250 It will be my first bike. I'm 5'10 214lbs hoping it's not too big for a first bike.
Looking at a 2003 totally loaded out with all kinds of extras, new tires, new wind shield, new carb rebuild; the guy is asking $3,200. I’m Concerned about the age and replacement parts made specific for that year.
Any advice or tips or. Heads up will be appreciated.
I know it's been 2 years, but Honda is your best bed for finding parts on older bikes.
Great bike!
The gearing on my Spirit is fine and has plenty of power at 70+
did you still have it??
Cool ride
It's a honda great name great bike to be recommended.
Dude I have the same bike love it
I think the bars should be lifted(swung up) several inches.
Which do you think is a better bike the 1100 shadow or 1100 vstar?
Brandon Gonzalez I personally think the shadows look nicer, but that's just an opinion.
Great bike.

😂😂😂
looking at 2005 spirit 1100, 34 K miles ..3400.00? real clean looking..How is the engine life on these if well maintained?
rob barry I have a 1995 vt1100 shadow, the most I've done to it is a carb rebuild, spark plugs, and oil changes. Extremely reliable bikes.
it's weird from you cam angle I just think the rebel ,but it's the shadow ,damn old cluster ,and those mirrors omg I hate them mine just vibratesthem self loose
I acquired an 04 sabre .it was very cheap and very beat up with 45 k.600.00.any way I've a always thought that th
You got a great deal bro
I'm looking for some stock pipes (mufflers) for my '04 VT1100C. Anybody?
Good Price!
I had just bought a 2004 Honda Shadow Spirit 1100 for $2,500 the guy was asking 32 with 12000 miles on it and it's blue which is my favorite color and it came with a windshield and that gohawk rb8 speaker which I don't like I can't hear anything at 60 miles an hour
can someone please tell me where to find these handlebars and if they still fit vlx600
I believe these are called buckhorn style handle bars.
What’s the difference between Sabre and spirit?
Mainly gearing from what I’m seeing. Sabre’s are geared lowered - more for town and hwy’s
Excuse me biker community, I'm sorry to bother you, but can some kind human give me the name of the handle on this Honda Shadow? I want to save it for when I purchase my first 1100cc bike (first bike in general). Thank you
Try riding an 86 vt1100c it has it more power
Would you recommend this as a beginner bike for someone 6ft. 240 lbs.?
yeah it would be a good bike for you
Lee, I am 6"6' and this is one of the only bikes that fits me without having to do any mods or changes to.
Why is it so quiet?
Do you own the company or just work for them?
How many miles do these bikes last
If well maintained and not beat on...100k easy
I had a 600, good bike
Where's the tag line at the end of the video? "Remember it's not what you're driving, but where you're going!" Or something to that effect. Haha
Is this a good starter bike?
It was my first bike
What about a honda shadow 99 1100 with 35k
This or a 750 shadow?
Is this bike suitable for a 6'6 guy?
yeah
everything feels goood :D
Don't think those are stock bars .... brake lever is at a crazy angle same with clutch lever.
same bars as on my VT1100C Shadow Spirit
I just got one for my first bike do u think it's a good idea ? Lol
Damn this bike looks heavy like a fuckin dump truck
If this thing fell down you'd never be able to get it up unless you had a backhoe and chain.
Just bought one for 800$ needs a battery and tires :)
