Finally somebody touched on the revised clutch feel and shifter feel. Thank you. That is one thing I have been dying to know since they said they would improve that on the 2018's. That is one thing I have hated with the wrx. I could never stand how the gearbox felt. After owning multiple hondas and acuras with manual transmissions I have become so picky with just how a gearbox feels when driving. Honda makes some of the best buttery smooth and direct feeling gearboxes in the business. There is nothing any more in this price range that is awd, 4 doors and sporty. Cant wait to go test drive one and finally pull the trigger if the 2018s manual feels better than the past. I currently own a mustang gt and live in upstate ny and am just tired of driving that thing in the winter.
Good video, I think the front looks great although I've always liked the front on these but hate the way the rear looks and they've barely changed it over span of this generation.
Wali Garrett No idea just yet. Just took the plunge yesterday evening. When I hear something I'll follow up. I'm coming from a 2014 BRZ. The extra power is welcome 🙂
ridiculous that you can't get the LED headlights on the premium model with the performance package. conversely, you can opt for the limited and get the better headlights but you're stuck with leather seats & a moonroof. get your shit together subaru.
I Agree! So dumb. Also you can’t just get the Harmon Kardon sound system without getting the Navi & Safety Systems (Eyesight, Lane departure, rear collision mitigation etc.) they really need to offer these options independently throughout the Premium/Limited lines. Recaro seats as well with the CVT should be available. WTF Subaru? Really!
@DJ Wolf, Congrats on your new car. How do you find the JURID brake pads?!! Do they have a far superior bite than the regular brake pads on other trims? Also, Subaru's website has a disclaimer that the JURID brake pads make loud noise even under normal braking conditions. Did you observe any such annoying squeaking noise?
v v thanks! Well I haven't pushed it much yet since I'm still breaking in the engine but so far they don't feel much different when just commuting they haven't made any noise yet, they do produce more dust tho!
dang im waiting on my sti, put onlive every second of videos / photos you take i cant wait :) BTW Is there jdm coin holder or is it still pice of plastic?
Great overview of the changes! You make a great point - the changes might be "little" and seem insignificant, but collectively they make for a much more refined experience. On the subject of refinement, how is the the road noise in comparison to your '16?
Thanks Ben! It's noticeably quieter for sure. The vast majority of the noise you hear now is just the tire howl. You can still hear the turbo spool tho when you get on it! Most people who mod won't care about it but I think for the average person it's a welcome change.
Absolutely. I've test driven a '17 and ridden in a friend's '16 STI and was really disappointed how much tire noise there was. Do you have any plans to do any sound deadening yourself?
Good point. I've heard nothing but bad things about the road noise on the stock Dunlops. Different tires and some aftermarket deadening has done wonders for my Fiesta ST, so I plan to eventually take the same approach with my WRX when the time comes.
Do you still like your car? I may pull the trigger on the same exact car. But a 2020. Comes with brembos now. Any rattles or problems? Your response is appreciated.
Great video! I have a small question. For someone that doesn't drive very forceful or go to a track or anything, would you still recommend getting the performance package or just skip it to save a little money? Thanks! I've subscribed and am excited to see all your new content!
I would definitely recommend going with the limited in your case! Many more creature comforts and the headlights are awesome. The recaros are nice but they aren't a "YOU HAVE TO GET IT" option.
Okay! I was just price matching them and it makes a bit more sense for me to just get the Limited then the Premium with the performance package. I've pretty much come to the conclusion that I don't need an STi because I will probably never get to a track day anywhere but I'd love to stick with my Impreza but bump up to a WRX. Okay, another question, STi Performance Exhaust or go aftermarket such as a Magnaflow?
+Matt Huff spt is a waste of money IMO, this car is pretty quiet exhaust wise so it just depends if you are going to ever replace the down pipe because it has a resonator in it. So for example I installed a mishimoto cat back and it was barely louder then I installed the downpipe and it was WAY louder. I would check out lots of exhaust clips first!
I've heard that about the SPT exhaust. I was hoping better from them since it's a company partnered with Subaru. I have a 2005 RS right now and have a Nvidia cat-back on it and it's almost a little to loud. I'd like to keep the four tip dual exhaust on a new WRX because I like the look of it. I was eye-balling the Magnaflow exhaust yesterday for it. Thank you so much for all the help!
thanks for the video. Is the trunk still under-insulated and only operated by button key and interior button? I have a 2015 but my '18 should have just arrived!
yes and yes. I do have the short throw STI option. But it is more positive. although the 1-2 gear gates still has about 1/2" of slop on the far left. The ride is much more tamed and less violent. It still seems to track the same. One other very noticeable thing is the clutch is way different. Engages low and has a much lighter feel. I am very interested in giving it a proper beat after break in for the real review.
thanks for the feedback. limited, premium, or base? meaning 18 or 17 wheels? if imagine than would also factor into ride. and lastly, did you tune your 15? mapping bugs me, but not sure if I want to tune.
You mention that Subaru added sound denting material around the car but you never said anything in the video about if the sound denting material work or not.
Got the same but in silver. Got it used at the dealer with only 2,500 miles. I love it. Do you know what the red light is.under the climate control knobs? I feel 2 holes in the top like the size of a phone cable. Original owner bought it and his wife said “NO” so I got a hell of a deal but no owners manual. Lol
I'm thinking I'm going to leave it stock for the first year or two most ill do to it till its out of warranty is maybe exhaust and intake... after that ill probably get an AP ect
Zachary Foster if your going to leave it stock I would consider the sti as the WRX is a bit lack luster with the stock tune. But if your going to tune your $/hp is better in the WRX
thats how i was leaning as well... just because i know theres the rev hang issue with the FA20 but i also know that fixable via a tune... but I'm not going carzy with it its probably going to be a daily till i hit warranty then ill play with it a bit more thanks for that advice... i also prefer the hydraulic steering
Im struggling between choosing a manual or cvt. I live in Wisconsin it snows like crazy and where i live traffic is insane. Also ive never driven manual. Any help?
It depends on what you want out of the car, if you are an enthusiast who loves to drive - 6 speed all the way. If you are just looking for a cool commuter maybe consider the CVT. I personally wouldn't do a CVT because the hit in performance you take ( I would do a dual clutch if they had it tho). With the hill stop assist and traction control you shouldn't have a problem in the snow either way as long as you get snow tires.
wondering if anyone was willing to share what they got the price of the 18 or 19 WRX premium with the performance package? Trying to decide if its worth spending 4000 more then a base model. I really want the heated seats and recaros! Want to see how good of a deal I get from a local dealership
Just ordered mine 18s. How does the shifter feel? Does it still wobbles a lot in the 1st and 2nd like that of the 15 - 17 or it has been resolved? Cuz if it is still a problem I guess I'll have to get a shift stopper...
Yes, but it is way less noticeable due to the smoother/more forgiving clutch engagement. Most people likely wouldn't notice unless you pointed it out now.
the grill its all new for the 2018 wrx but old for a discontinued evo X jajajaja I liked the 2011 wrx better than the evo x because it looked smaller and closer to the original 4wd ninjas of the early 2000s but now wrx is overweight looking like the evo X
yes I know for a fact that mecanicaly speaking is a better wrx but still not convinced about the cvt option or the torque vectoring I mean the wrx was always the more mechanical less computariced of the evo sti pack, but from the designer point of view i feel mixed with this gen they look better in person but i dont know

Rally blue, the new FA engine has lost the rumble because of EL headers that it comes with from the factory but that is also why it spools so fast with the twin scroll turbo.
DJ Wolf to be honest no sports cars are really that eye catching to me price wise but my 2013 charger has more features than this car and more hp for the same price lol
man those are some crappy ass recaros. you should switch them out with the Evo 10, now 9 year old real recaros lol. nice whiskers on the front bumper though :)

I bought mine two days ago for my b-day and I love it !
Awesome video, first one I see explaining the differences on the headlights and foglights between the standard, premium and limited. Cheers
This video made me hyped! have to save up for a down payment and pick one up! Good job on the video man.
Did you buy one?
Good video, I think the front looks great although I've always liked the front on these but hate the way the rear looks and they've barely changed it over span of this generation.
It looks exactly like mine. 2020 WRX premium performance package in white w/ tinted windows.
I love that color with gunmetal rims. I'm gonna get the same one and add tinted windows.
Great video and awesome looking car.
I placed my order for a 18' WRX. Looking forward to it coming in around August. Looking forward to your future reviews.
Sam Jennings when you place the order, do you have to pay anything?
Andres at the time I ordered it I paid a $200 deposit, which will be added to my down payment at delivery.
Sam Jennings my dealer said $500 deposit. Did they let you go with $200 or does it depend on the dealer
Performace pack + power sunroof would be a home run....maybe in 2019 they will make that combo available
WhiteNuckle ChargerR/T my 2018 50th anniversary has the performance pack and the sunroof. It’s the perfect WRX
And it also is printed in "Heritage Blue" aka "Dad Blue" aka "Cop Friendly Blue".. Ultimate sleeper color imho
When you put actually bucket seats in that car your boy here is ready to take those Recaro Seats off of your hands. Lol
I just ordered a base STI WRB. Can't wait xD
congrats!
Adam Ball what's the ETA?
Wali Garrett No idea just yet. Just took the plunge yesterday evening. When I hear something I'll follow up. I'm coming from a 2014 BRZ. The extra power is welcome 🙂
This might be my next whip

Here in Canada, you can get the premium with the headlights, but to get the non base wheels you need to get the limited.
nice vid bro. if my car wasnt 2 years deep into my build. i would have thought about a lease trade up.
at least i put 35 lbs of sound deadening in my car already, everything except the roof.
you know.. i think i might order that 2018 lower steering wheel bezel.. my plastidip one is peeling again, and i like the perfect match of yours.
Love it. Could you also give a feedback on this color with paint, dirt, and scratches?
How come there's no WRX stitching on the car mats? I like the little details like that :(
Teh StyLz he has the all weather mats here. The standard black carpet mats still have the WRX stitching in red
Great review wolf man, im lovin this new wrx!
I have a 17base so curious to see the base18 my man
@DJ Wolf, Congrats on your new car. How do you find the JURID brake pads?!! Do they have a far superior bite than the regular brake pads on other trims? Also, Subaru's website has a disclaimer that the JURID brake pads make loud noise even under normal braking conditions. Did you observe any such annoying squeaking noise?

@DJ Wolf, If you don't mind could you please let us know the final price you paid ? (excluding tax and other such additional fees)
I actually like the new front face but only with the fog lights.
looking forward to the driving impressions video for your car!
true I'm sure if you look at the cars from a stock engine stand point I can see that makes sense
great video pls the driving impressions for the next one !!!! greetings from california
dang im waiting on my sti, put onlive every second of videos / photos you take i cant wait :) BTW Is there jdm coin holder or is it still pice of plastic?

Not for myself, you might be able to quite it down if you switched to more touring oriented all season tire.
Good point. I've heard nothing but bad things about the road noise on the stock Dunlops. Different tires and some aftermarket deadening has done wonders for my Fiesta ST, so I plan to eventually take the same approach with my WRX when the time comes.
Congratulations man for your new wrx! Is Android auto available in any of the new wrx line up?
As of this model yeah it's still just Subaru's "Starlink"
Do you still like your car? I may pull the trigger on the same exact car. But a 2020. Comes with brembos now. Any rattles or problems? Your response is appreciated.
Great detailed review!
I have an 18. Would be great to have Apple Car Play already instead of those pathetic apps.
Great video! I have a small question. For someone that doesn't drive very forceful or go to a track or anything, would you still recommend getting the performance package or just skip it to save a little money? Thanks! I've subscribed and am excited to see all your new content!

Nice video. Very thorough 👌🏻
Good review dude!
Hows the road noise, the 2015-17 had plenty complaints about that
The premium also has inverted struts
Nice review bro!
Are you able to interchange the LED headlights from the regular headlights on the performance package? LED looks very aggressive.
I like it but not the price, It about 5k options with no performance gain over the Wrx Base price.
hows your overall experience with the wrx? Any issues?
Just picked up a 2017 Impreza Sport Wagon. I already want to trade it in for an '18 WRX, lol...
sooo. did you do it yet 😂
thanks for the video. Is the trunk still under-insulated and only operated by button key and interior button? I have a 2015 but my '18 should have just arrived!
did you get your 18 yet?
Sure did. Have 150 miles on it so far, need to break it in. WR Blue with a factory tint. Definitely looks "meaner" than my '15
compared to your 15, shifter better? less road noise? any difference in ride?
yes and yes. I do have the short throw STI option. But it is more positive. although the 1-2 gear gates still has about 1/2" of slop on the far left. The ride is much more tamed and less violent. You mention that Subaru added sound denting material around the car but you never said anything in the video about if the sound denting material work or not.
Kevin Lam it is definitely quieter, but you still hear the howl of the tire a lot past 35mph
DJ Wolf That's something I'm not too surprise since it's the same tire
How is the improved sound proofing? Do u notice it?
Got the same but in silver. Got it used at the dealer with only 2,500 miles. I love it. Do you know what the red light is.under the climate control knobs? Eric Jarvis hey I'm looking to buy the same exact color, how much did u get it for?
Great video!
been having a hard time deciding on the STI or just the premium WRX but with recaros
Zachary Foster Premium Wrx
Zachary Foster do you think you would mod/get a tune? If so I think you will find the WRX very substantial at the bolt ons + tune level!

Exact same issue with the slop, the current shifter stop will still work tho!
Thank you!
Are the performance brakes the same size as standard ones?
Led headlights until you gotta replace a300 dollar ballast 😂
how light is the clutch compared to an Si or GTI?
3:34 design is same but what about steering headlight?
Only on WRX limited and STI models.
Good video.
tangina, ganda ser! :D
Can't get over it not having push to start
so we're you able to save any off msrp! never purchased a sub
Yes! I came in right around $2500 off MSRP
@@DJWolf did you order it or take from dealer stock?
Headlights are different from the previous gen. Barely, but they are different.
Only on the Limited WRX/ and STI models. The base and premium are the same.
WHat percent tints are those?
How much did ur car cost you?
Is there still rev hang when changing gears?
Yes, but it is way less noticeable due to the smoother/more forgiving clutch engagement. Most people likely wouldn't notice unless you pointed it out now.
Thanks for the quick reply!
great car but it wont sell one bit sadly..
now the front looks more like an Evo X
If you're trading up from a 2017 model, ask if your dealer will let you swap the front bumpers so you can avoid the Evo look lol
Shoutout to SonReal!
looks like an EVO ^_^
Just say plastic dude its not fake carbon
Good
Good looking car, what's a ruff rack?Lol
Where did you find a Performance Package WRX that wasn't WRB? Every one of these for sale locally are Rally Blue.
I ordered this one the first day the order banks were open!
Thanks for replying. I would love one in black. Oh well.
I still like my 2016 sti better but nice video
ah the moon ruff
Does the Recaro driver seat have lumbar adjustment?
+JerryDownEast it does not but it has more lumbar support than the standard seat.
wrx should be 320hp and STI should be 400hp. these cars are way behind in power
Mike Hundredson lol what do you drive
Too much chat on paint and wallpaper...not enough tech.
Music suck in the intro
they are going over the top with this car... it is no longer a World Rally x car......
Elevated Minds it certainly feels that way. The 2002-2007 were the true raw rally inspired ones, at this point they are much more run of the mill.
the grill its all new for the 2018 wrx but old for a discontinued evo X jajajaja I liked the 2011 wrx better than the evo x because it looked smaller and closer to the original 4wd ninjas of the early 2000s but now wrx is overweight looking like the evo X
The 2018 WRX is 100lbs lighter than the 2011 :) but yes, the 2000s were amazing for the WRX/STI
yes I know for a fact that mecanicaly speaking is a better wrx but still not convinced about the cvt option or the torque vectoring I mean the wrx was always the more mechanical less computariced of the evo sti pack, but from the designer point of view i feel mixed with this gen they look better in person but i dont know
Ruf Racks
Looks like a Toyota Corolla
I hate the new body style ill stick to my 2013 ago plus why spend the money on a wrx spend a little more and get a sti
SuperRD1978 there are a lot of reasons to choose the WRX over the STI which is mostly for the engine in this generation.
DJ Wolf so what are the other reasons?
Looks like a carola. :/
So for more money they will take off the sun roof? Well take my money Subaru
Weight reduction bro. Add the better breaks and recaros and the upgrade price is a pretty damn good deal.
Who else skipped the boring drone shots... I do the same with the fake wanna be production company graphics most TH-cam’s use.
I've had the 2006 STI, and 2013 WRX. I honestly hate these new bodies.. *My personal Opinion*
Javier Nuno I currently have a 2006 sti as well and I absolutely love the look of the 2006 better but the new cars are so much more advanced in every way, much much better daily drivers. Not as special as the 2002-2007's tho!
Oh right on! what color is your 06?
Yea obviously the new ones are way better for daily drivers. Is it true that it lost its rumble tho?
Rally blue, the new FA engine has lost the rumble because of EL headers that it comes with from the factory but that is also why it spools so fast with the twin scroll turbo.
The rumble was the whole reason why I got into the wrx's and sti's. What has it become if it doesn't have the rumble. :(
sti
ruuf
ruff racks
Can you find even more annoying music?
The worst recaro seats ever
Amateur car review
Paul D it's my first one, so yeah, you're 100% correct!
DJ Wolf I think you’ve done great.
The infliction in your sentences is painful
Overpriced car
what would you get instead?
DJ Wolf to be honest no sports cars are really that eye catching to me price wise but my 2013 charger has more features than this car and more hp for the same price lol
Charger are slow asf
man those are some crappy ass recaros. you should switch them out with the Evo 10, now 9 year old real recaros lol.
nice whiskers on the front bumper though :)
Looks like shit and no hatchback
Ak0ld I think this looks amazing
Lol
That's wishful thinking. I highly doubt we'll see a hatch model anytime soon, but I'm hoping I'm wrong about this.
Hatchbacks are for hipsters
Or people who want a more practical car they can actually fit stuff in.
