If horse power is the only thing that people complain about the new STi, I think Subaru has done a fantastic job. And if horse power is the most important thing to you, you should go buy a Mustang GT. The STi is not the right car for you. :)
I don't think it stops with HP for a lot of people. It also has a lot to do with overall style. I wish there was a way to bring back the magic that they had from 04-07.
I love this styling though. It represents the old school Japanese sports cars. Many people say the front end is copying the EVO. But it is not a bad thing considering the EVO is iconic.
@rvidal0001 I personally would keep yours! The new Stis have great interiors compared to the older generations but there is just something about the 04-07 STis that make my heart go pitter-patter.
Especially when some of these are driven by wet behind the ears 16-18 year olds. I’m 35 and this is more than enough power to have fun with on public roads. I guess most everybody else but me drives daily on race tracks so I guess they need more power.
@@benjamindminor1983 true that. Problem is, people are getting too obsessed with power these days. If this car had 410hp they would've wanted it to have at least 450 and so on. They keep forgetting that power without proper driving and control is absolutely nothing.
I have a 2016 with HIDs and fog lights. The fogs are completely useless - I like that they’re gone. Btw, my grandfather Richard Jones restored 3 Tuckers that are now in museums (Joe mentioned Tucker when talking about turning lights)
I removed my fog lights on my 2015 STI. For one, we don't have fogs in Hawaii. Two, they're small and weak as hell. Three, I installed ducts to direct air towards the brakes. Function > Form.
It s time to put things in perspective, in 2006 i purchased my first 305 hp sti for 48000$+taxes (loaded, canada pricing). Yes it was something to have a compact 305hp car, but so was the price. I also had a 2004 SVT prior to that with 400hp for 49000$. Today the STI have still have 310hp but can be had for still 48000$ . The decendent of my old SVT sells today for 75000 in canada (GT350). So it is not all bad for the sti, more peoples can afford it and experience the still great driving experience.
The power output didn't change, maybe. in 2004 A GTI had a price tag below $ 20,000.- Today you can pay over $ 37,000.- for one. The STI was $31,000 and there was no GTI that would go near that price. Today you can get an STI for a price below the one of some GTIs. I thank Subaru a lot for having improved the brakes, the rigidity, the interior.

Subscribed, I have a Pure Red WRX and I really love the color. Thank you for making this video and showing your love for Subaru. Even though i own one i can't stop looking at it.
The biggest downer for me, when it comes to the current WRX and the STI, is the sedan body style. The wagon/hatch would have been a whole lot more practical and Subaru as a brand is all about practicality and rugged usability. As a prior owner of the WRX wagon, this generation of the WRX/STI are non-starters to me, due to this reason. I have an extra-large dog-crate to accommodate, and a Sedan or coupe would simply not cut it......the prior generation WRX wagon did the job beautifully.
Thanks for reviewing this car. This is by far one of the most comprehensive and honest reviews of a car I've seen in a long time. I was on the verge of trading in my 2013 WRX for a 2018 STI but held back because I found out the 2019 has an extra 5hp and stronger pistons. Yeah, it's not a lot, but it is a big leap for me. The other two factors are that I have a hatch that is no longer available /sad, and I certainly do not miss car payments. I'll just wait until they introduce the 2020 and see if the 2019 price drops. Although, what if they bring back the hatch? GAH
Thank you so much for your awesome compliments! I am glad that this review helped you! The 2019 STi is a great car but I am so curious what the next generation is going to bring!
I drove a nice blue one the other day..... I'm so interested in what they will bring for 2020.... I wish I could see the specs for it.... Those plastic pieces do suck as they could easily just have fog lights. Oh plus they added the lights on the mirrors. The 2015 doesn't have that. I also drove one without the wing. Not a wing fan honestly. I like sleeper STI for cops.
Right now besides the concept cars that they revealed earlier this yea. Subaru has been very tight lipped about the 2020 STI! I am really excited and also want to know more! Which lights are you referring to the mirror? Turn signals?
alphazoom II For all STis though since the redesign came out in 2015 the turn signals were there. I know mine had them. Must be because of the STI trim.
This is the exact video I was looking for lol i been wondering if the 2019 sti is worth going for the limited over the base. And this is the perfect video for me to decide thank you so much!
If I am getting an STI it is going to have the wing. I like the red but WR Blue still has my heart! I think you and every other real Subaru enthusiast out there!
Joe - quick minor point: "winning the Nurburgring" is misleading - Subaru won it's class there as there are many classes of cars running in the "race"...
Thank you Ed for that! You are 100% correct and I apologize for stating that way. Still an awesome feat. That race has something like over 300 cars on track at once! I love multi-class endurance racing!

Cool thing with the boxer is the weight is down low, so it hugs the road better. It's like toyota, why change it if it works. It's a great design and just works well. I went with a golf gti because I needed a commuter that would be comfortable. I really was torn not to get one of these though.
Tucker did make those adaptive headlights but cireon actually used them on couple cars too. I own 19 sti limited and I wish the fog lights were still there but the turning headlights are awesome plus it is funny when you start the car at night or adjusts them and they get cross eyed 😝😂

P.S. 2 days after posting this comment and I have an appointment to pick up my STI today!
I'm leaving to the Philippines November 26th 2018 on 2 more days. The subaru dealership contacted me saying my 2019 Subaru WRX STI arrived. I can't wait to buy it. I wanted the 2018 STI, but they were all out. The dealership also told me that there are 4 extra features on the 2019 STI. Moonroof, SRVD, Harman Kardon head unit and front camera. If you add more horsepower to a 4 cylinder boosted engine you'll end up replacing gaskets every year. And Subaru would have to upgrade the transmission to hold all that power, main problems of STIs is blowing up the transmission. Idt Subaru wants to do all that.
Raiti's Rides of course if you tune right you shouldn't have issues but I was saying Subaru STI wouldn't want to add HP out of factory. They can do numerous upgrades as they did on the Type RA but only managed to make an estimate 310 hp.
To my understanding, emissions and pistons likely played a more significant role than head gaskets or transmissions? Subaru upgraded the pistons in the RA and 2019 models, but it seems likely that these are still a hypereutectic piston with similar or identical clearance, and for emissions its seems likely that these still may run a bit lean at low end, even when initially spooling, which is a risk factor for detonation - something the EJ257 has not historically dealt well with (i.e., a different piston material accompanied with very different factory maps might have enabled the RA/2019 to do more, but would probably impact emissions and fuel economy.) The STI has one of the more robust manual transmissions on the market, and many are making major torque with little more than a clutch upgrade (even the OEM clutch is pretty robust). Several WRX transmissions have a reputation for being notably less robust, and some 2002-2003 5-speeds used in the WRXs had issues even with factory power levels. From the power perspective, the first thing to go with the (US-destined) WRX STI's engine is commonly the pistons. For those looking for longer-term reliable power, they commonly go for something like one of the various IAG-built short blocks, where 500+ WHP builds aren't that unusual (and, those looking to go nutty have well-exceeded 1,000 WHP. [Now as to why one would want a 1,300 WHP STI...I have not the slightest idea.])
I have a 2019 white limited and after about a week I noticed the throttle now has a dead spot at the beginning of the travel. Other than that the car is great! Lol I raced a stock 2016 and pulled on it pretty bad, I'm sure it's more than just a 5 hp increase. I'm hoping a flash will fix my deadspot in the throttle it's very annoying
Also, these really open up with mods, EXCEPT you can't legally do it for warranty purposes.... so.... when you mention mods... I sort of cringe. Mine benefitted so much from a new down pipe with only mufflers... pro tune.... and such... so it's sad to try one stock, however the STI still feels good especially the transmission. The WRX needs the mods more so than the STI.
My 2015 WRX six speed seems to overboost a lot. It's supposed to be 15.9 max but goes over 20 a lot. The car is all stock and I'm not lugging the engine. I'm not sure if this is something that I should be concerned about in terms of longevity because I'd like to keep this car for awhile.
Yea that’s normal. These fa20 WRX’s have this overboost feature and it is nothing to worry about. Also weather affects how much psi your car reads I believe. In the winter my wrx reads lower numbers and the hotter it is outside the closer I get to 20-21 psi
That is so awesome of you to say Tom! As of now there is no DCT for a Subaru, but that may change for the 2020 model year. You can get a CVT, but only on the WRX.
That is the million dollar question! I probably would wait for 2021 so that they get a chance to to work out any bugs. It will be interesting to see how it goes!
Raiti, since this is a limited does it have blind spot monitoring or lane keep assist? Also do all limited versions come with just the lip spoiler or do some have the big STI wing? Also is there an option for LED lights on the fog light bezels because I’ve seen them on one 2019 STI? Thank you for the help :)
This car is amazing for how much hp you get when u compare pricing. If u really want more hp, get a dodge demon. However much money is however much hp ur gonna get. But dont get me wrong, i would take the wrx over the demon anyday.
I doubt the car is going to have a major change for at least 2-3 year more years.....the simple fact is WRX and STI dosen't make Subaru the kind of money the crossovers do. Just like Mitsubishi that dropped the Lancer and Evo to focus on crossovers. The money needed to redesign a highly praised new WRX and STI can be used elsewhere at Subaru and the execs know it.....
Really depends on the mileage and are there mods. If you can get a certified pre-owned STI with a extended warranty that might be the way to go for you. I am going to be doing a side by side comparison between a WRX and STI to really show what you get!
Hey I was thinking about investing into one and what's a good down payment amount to put down? I was thinking 5 or 6 thousand but I'm not sure. What do you think?
People still bitching about horses need to put it in perspective. This is probably about 42k. a porsche cayman has 300 horses for almost double the price unless you get a barebones one and thats still 10 grand more!
You had Civic type r STI and rs now you think about going back to sti why would you take 2019 or wait for new model there probably be no more rumble I have golf r tuned but dsg I was thinking to go STI as well what about type r I thought seats were too tight for long drives
For the STI badge, is it only the limited that has the Cherry Blossom Red color or does the base STI have it as well? Also, I hear that the STI badge inside by the center console lights up at night. Is that true?

maybe, maybe i don't know ... i'am just a little amateur enthusiast :D
peace!
Nowy Ziom you don’t know. Take a history lesson
Great video! Thank you!
Thank you for saying that and taking the time to watch!
If you add more horsepower to a 4 cylinder boosted engine you'll end up replacing gaskets every year. And Subaru would have to upgrade the transmission to hold all that power, main problems of STIs is blowing up the transmission.
Idt Subaru wants to do all that.
If you tune it right and not go overboard you shouldn't have issues. Thank you for sharing your input!
Raiti's Rides of course if you tune right you shouldn't have issues but I was saying Subaru STI wouldn't want to add HP out of factory.
They can do numerous upgrades as they did on the Type RA but only managed to make an estimate 310 hp.
Moises Radilla You have a very good point!
To my understanding, emissions and pistons likely played a more significant role than head gaskets or transmissions? Subaru upgraded the pistons in the RA and 2019 models, but it seems likely that these are still a hypereutectic piston with similar or identical clearance, and for emissions its seems likely that these still may run a bit lean at low end, even when initially spooling, which is a risk factor for detonation - something the EJ257 has not historically dealt well with (i.e., a different piston material accompanied with very different factory maps might have enabled the RA/2019 to do more, but would probably impact emissions and fuel economy.)
The STI has one of the more robust manual transmissions on the market, and many are making major torque with little more than a clutch upgrade (even the OEM clutch is pretty robust).
Dammit Joe, now I have to buy one!!!!!
I know a dealership that I have connections with! ;-)
CHINSPEED congrats on your new STI! I’m curious what is going on with the dead spot! Let me know if you find anything new with that dead spot.😊👍🏻
I dig it. Terrific video
Be careful watching all of these Subaru reviews!
Raiti's Rides I know - you “got” me!
I think many people out there would agree with you! It is incredible just how good the gearbox is in the STI. Thanks for always commenting!!
9.9K JHC! Like when you’re mom comes home before you planned...and you are Not Ready yet!
Philip Rosenthale thanks for being there every step of the way.😊👍🏻
I want one!
David Lee I don’t think that is an issue. I know weather can have affect over this.
Yea that’s normal. These fa20 WRX’s have this overboost feature and it is nothing to worry about. Also weather affects how much psi your car reads I believe. In the winter my wrx reads lower numbers and the hotter it is outside the closer I get to 20-21 psi
Good to know thank you both.
Thanks for adding your experience and input!
You are so very welcome sir!
Awesome car. And another awesome review! But does it come in dual clutch auto trans?
That is so awesome of you to say Tom! As of now there is no DCT for a Subaru, but that may change for the 2020 model year. You can get a CVT, but only on the WRX.
@@RaitisRides: I'll hold off until late 2019 when the 2020 WRX arrives. Here's hoping it comes with a DCT. Christmas Cheers!
That sounds like a good plan! Merry Christmas!
Is it worth holding out for the 2020 STI? If they change the engine I'm gonna really miss that rumble :'(
That is the million dollar question! I probably would wait for 2021 so that they get a chance to to work out any bugs. It will be interesting to see how it goes!
That why I bought my 2019 STI in WR Blue.
Anniversary reminder is a life saver! Lol
really wish they didnt get rid of the fog lights.
I know it is such a great look!
Hay Joe, thas a lil thick am gettn excited
I am so happy to hear!
You don't know how nice that is
Trust me I do! ;-)
Imagine a 100 Horse Power Bump 🤩
That would be nice!
Why don't they make them in a coupe? That would make it perfect .
That would be great! they used to years ago!
Good vid. Just wish car was updated more to keep up with competition !!!
I totally agree with you! Thank you for the compliment!
Love the seat belts!
Huh?
13:45 i thought you said "i'm gonna go ahead and let tom hanks in the back seat"
Are there any pics of the 2020 WRX STI/WRX?
Subby does great with red and i don't like red at all
It really does pop off the screen!
Which new car has the best interior smell?
Right now I am really digging the Mustang.
Very good points!
I am keeping my fingers crossed it will! Time will tell! Thank you for sharing your input!
Waiting for a 2021. That one will be mine. By then I'll be broken even with this crappy Tacoma and can move on...
I think it will be worth that wait!
The 2020 will have 350 horses
My favorite
I am so glad that you like it!
just wish STi had abit better gas mileage. like cmon its 2019
I totally agree with you!
if you worried about mpg get a prius looser 🤦🏻♂️
Consensus. If I buy a 19 limited new am I just going to wish I had bought a used 18 sti
No I don't think so.
I should clarify more that I mean a regular wrx limited 19..some decent prices out there on used 18 sti’s really torn
Really depends on the mileage and are there mods. If you can get a certified pre-owned STI with a extended warranty that might be the way to go for you. I am going to be doing a side by side comparison between a WRX and STI to really show what you get!
why not the 2020 year model and those head lights are not all LED
For 2018 they did update the headlights on the STI to LED and adaptive turning. 2020 will be interesting!
I'm Talking about the turn signal light is the only light that's not LED. My 2017 BRZ Has the Full LED Head Light.
In that case you are right!
Hey I was thinking about investing into one and what's a good down payment amount to put down? I was thinking 5 or 6 thousand but I'm not sure. What do you think?
5:32, What's the difference with cast and forged wheels?
People still bitching about horses need to put it in perspective. This is probably about 42k. a porsche cayman has 300 horses for almost double the price unless you get a barebones one and thats still 10 grand more!
Daniel Masterson how much horsepower did the cayman have 14 years ago?
12:41 I'm 6'2" 256lbs. Yes, you are a small lightweight
You are awesome that cracked me up!
whats the difference between the premium and limited sti's?
That is a really great idea for a review! I will get it together for you!
Raiti's Rides That would be awesome thank you!!
@@tbagmaster9924 of course! Anytime!
How much do you think taxes and all the mark ups will the price actually come out to
I don't think there should be any markup on a 2019 STI. If anything if you do it right you should be getting under MSRP. Just do your homework!
It’s cus here by California near the beach there’s a dealer that has a Subaru sti 2018 with 10k markup price and I was like god damn !
Wassup It's me Julian now that’s just ridiculous!! They will be sitting on that car for years! 👎🏻
I think I have said everything that I have to say about the STI.
That's exactly how the Subaru fans feel that want a new design.
did they come with lane departure system this year?
20 years ago 280hp and less weight, and now 310hp ...? WTF 🤨
Thank you so much for sharing your input and perspective! I really appreciate you watching!
Torgue is the key
10k by friday? 🤔
I wonder if your prediction will be right! Thanks for having faith in me!
I hope so! Joe deserves it!
ReneFloresVlogs that is so nice of you to say!
Hey Joe can you review a Camry lol?
I thought this was one! lmao
You had Civic type r STI and rs now you think about going back to sti why would you take 2019 or wait for new model there probably be no more rumble I have golf r tuned but dsg I was thinking to go STI as well what about type r I thought seats were too tight for long drives
Wish I didn’t spend so much money on food monthly, otherwise I’ll purchase this car lols
I know exactly how you feel!
For the STI badge, is it only the limited that has the Cherry Blossom Red color or does the base STI have it as well? Also, I hear that the STI badge inside by the center console lights up at night. Is that true?
Yes it dies Kevin! Great question!
@@RaitisRides Thanks! How about the cherry blossom red badge? Does 2019 base model STI have it? Love your channel btw. It has help TREMENDOUSLY in understanding vehicles in-depth during my purchasing decision.
Honestly I don't like this car... In special the rear side.... Is like a car 10year ago...I don't know if there are hatback type grettings
It will be interesting to see what happens with the 2020 model!
Help I don’t know whether to get the sti or sti limited. I’m willing to pay more for the limited but idk if some of the perks are worth it
I would just go standard STI.
"ram air scoop" I'm pretty sure ram air is a performance brand for Pontiacs..
long live the fund . hail to the trust
this cracked me up! Thank you for watching!
Wearing my raitis rides shirt while watching
You are the man! Congrats on the wedding by the way! I knew you would want to watch this one!
