ColeI Lundstrom it’s a different plot armor when it’s known ahead of time someone can’t lose that battle because later in the franchise they show up lol
In the novel Plauguies ,Maul was being trained only as an assassin in keeping with the traditions of the Sith of old. Sidious knew that Maul's animalistic and raw ferocity would be best used as the expendable tool .
It was probably because he didn't underestimate Qui-Gon, as he knew who he was fighting. Or maybe it was because Maul was better at dueling than Qui-Gon, who, despite using the Ataru form, was a Jedi Consular, whose speciality was the Force and not combat/dueling. I can't say Qui-Gon underestimated Maul, he simply got outskilled. Again, the Juyo form (Ferocity, Maul used it) is based on one's fury and flurry of attacks from unexpected angles, its user tries to overwhelm their opponent, whereas the Ataru form (Aggression) implements swift strikes, sometimes combined with acrobatic stunts. Both forms lack defense, but if you compare aggression to bigger aggression, the bigger one will prevail. I believe this to be the reason why Qui-Gon lost.
@@someonefromsomewhere1515 I think that Qui-Gon's age was a huge factor that you aren't considering. Ataru is a physically demanding form and humans don't age very well compared to other species in Star Wars. Compare how much more explosive Obi-Wan's Ataru is in the same fight; as a 25-year-old he has the stamina to use Ataru effectively for an extended period. Qui-Gon's death due to exhaustion is why Obi-Wan changed to Soresu, a form that emphasizes defense with minimal exertion until an opening presents itself. Not to say that Maul is a slouch, but Obi-Wan came out of the gate full of all the piss and vinegar of a young man and he was able to put Maul on his ass, something Qui-Gon wasn't able to manage alone.
Benderbot50 Yet Obi-Wan still technically lost as he got knocked down to the pit. He managed to defeat Maul by exploiting Maul's biggest weakness - overconfidence. Yes, Obi-Wan also managed to damage Maul's lightsaber, thus removing one of its blades, but in terms of dueling, Obi-Wan lost. On a side note, the Ataru form incorporates the Force to boost its user's speed while also allowing them to deliver their strikes more swiftly. Qui-Gon wasn't young, that is true, yet it didn't look like he was exhausted, he wasn't dominated nor losing ground. He merely didn't anticipate Maul's moves at the end, as Juyo is even more unpredictable than Ataru. And upset Obi-Wan incorporated not only the Force, but aggression too, thus getting closer to the Juyo form and even the Dark Side. His aggression gave him some sort of a boost, yet the Jedi shouldn't rely on their aggression, as it clouds their vision of the fight. Well, I think Maul can and did at least rival Sidious in a saber duel... Sidious had to break Maul's force wall before slinging him around with the force. He showed up to put an end to his rule and he showed up with two sabers (one for each)... That says something about Maul.
His final battle in Tatooine is epic. Once I saw an interview of Sam Witwer and he described how Obi-Wan tricks him by changing to Quin Gon's stance. Maul attacks in the same way and Obi-Wan defeats him
We can all agree tho maul story was one of the best or even was the best because truly he was a slave to the dark side and he had no choice so that made his death even more sad
This shines a new light on the maul vs kenobi fight in the phantom menace. I've always thought it seemed like maul was holding back or at least like he would have beaten kenobi
He implements physical attacks mostly to overwhelm opponents or if he is fighting multiple opponents as this can give him space and prevent the opponents of attacking at the same time.
Just be impressed that he manages to maintain his rage without his 'nads. Granted, Vader didn't have them either, but that probably contributed to why he just sat around and sulked when there was no immediate need to kill somebody.
He went from the strong silent badass to the overly talkative, semi insane fallen apprentice. He is a really cool character but it would have been a lot cooler to see him rebuild himself, come back stronger and become an actual rival rather than just some space mafia leader.
I can kinda respect that in Maul. It’s like he wanted his opponent to give him the nod that he is awesome at saber combat but it’s too bad it ends with them having to die lol
Maul and Sidious actually seemed pretty on par during their duel, as to their dueling abilities anyway. They both attack and both defend somewhat equally, also they both kick each other. Sidious simply overpowered him, winning the saber lock, because he was more powerful in the force. He didn't really prove to be the superior duelist, though I believe if it didn't come down to power in the force but instead simply to their bladework, Sidious would eventually win.
Exactly, Savage and Maul do a terrible team in a 2v1, as seen against Kenobi on Florrum too. They keep getting in each other's way. That's why Sidious was easily dealing with them together. Once Savage was down, and Maul was enraged, Sidious stopped laughing and you see he was actually struggling
Actually it was stated the maul wasn’t focused in his duel with Ashoka. He was under a great deal of stress after his encounter with sidious. Not to mention his Reoccurring force visions about the fate of the galaxy.
If Maul was more cautious, he would without a doubt be the deadliest duelist ever. If he was more cautious he wouldn't have lost to Obi Wan so quickly in their last fight
A physical strike from Windu is what disarmed Sidious so I think it’s fair to say at the right time and opportunity it can be certainly be a game changer.
Anakin had a similar problem with just being a duelist. Only when he turned to the Dark Side and became Darth Vader, did he learned his mistake and uses the force in his fights.
Darth Maul is basically the Cersei Lannister of Star Wars. Consumed by hate and spite to a fault and ultimately fails at pretty much everything despite reaching new heights of power

They were tools to him. All of it betrayed him and he ended up dead. I can’t remember a Sith Lord with more apprentices than Palpatine. Most Sith Lords pick one person, train them and wait to be killed. If they don’t think their student is gifted enough to have the potential to kill them, most of the time they don’t get chosen for apprenticeship in the first place.
Definitely love Darth Maul but I can definitely agree that he had every opportunity to take out the Jedi swiftly and quickly with adding all that flare to the duels. I can definitely see how he would be gloating in a way. So I can see that being his downfall but at the same time, it was just so damn cool. I mean, who wouldn't want to show off every bit of skill that you possess, right? As for Palpatine/Darth Sidious even after watching the animated series and the movies, it is truly hard to believe that he, in anyway, was a true master of the lightsaber to any degree because he hardly used them and also, he was just so janky and clunky with his fighting styles. Also brings me to the next point of how flashy and skilled the duel between Obi-Wan and Anakin was in Revenge of the Sith compared to how it was in a New Hope. In A New Hope, the style was more like Fencing compared to the true skill of Revenge of the Sith. But then it makes you truly wonder, after the collapse of the Jedi Order and destruction of the Jedi Temples around the Galaxy, that all those different Lightsaber Fighting Styles and teaching were lost at the start of Order 66 and continued all the way through the Jedi Purge. Like even when you see Luke, Rey & Kylo Ren duel, it just seems like there are so many skills and styles missing which, in my opinion, made the Prequel Trilogy worth watching. (Though, the story and acting were lacking and just eh...) I felt like after Luke rebuilt the Jedi Order and Jedi Temple, he still struggled to fully harness and master the lightsaber fighting styles lost after the Purge. Maybe I'm wrong. Sidious gave a just judgement too many times he had the opportunity to take his opponents life instead of toying with Kenobi and Ahsoka he could’ve quickly dispatched them he had already beaten Obi-Wan and Ahsoka showed that she wasn’t going to follow him after what he said about Anakin
For the plot because when he wins ppl die. Hell when he loses sometimes ppl die. He's one literally twice in the clone wars tho and both were really short barely duels.
Maul simply wanted to be acknowledged. Je hides in the shadows untill TPM. He finally gets to fight Jedi and wants to show his master his greatness. Part of his hatred for Obi Wan is for losing the spot Sidious had for him. Nothing we ever see from him makes him Happier than savage accepting him as his master. Savage, whose power almost ended Dooku, Ventriss and even overwhelming Anakin and Obi briefly. And in so doing gave Maul a satisfaction he had not had before. His desire for Ezra went beyond the holocrons. He wanted Ezra to need him as his master. He needed to be acknowledged.
Darth sidious is the most powerful sith lord because he was the last sith lord, thats how the rule of two works. The most powerful sith survives and the other one dies. The surviving sith finds a new apprentice and the same thing happens with those two. Sidious was more powerful than plagueis, darth plaguis was more powerful than his master etc.
I absolutely agree that this is Maul's biggest flaw. Just wish that he learned from making this mistake so many times and grew as a character with respect to this. I think most Maul fans are a little frustrated that we never saw that growth. Still glad he's had such a big presence in Star Wars recently

The fact tht fans just accept things like this is why I cant ever fully get into any sort of "fandom".
With you bro.
Could you please do a Sidious Vs Vitiate fight video?
Palpatine had to use his force powers.
The Dan Marino of the Sith
"Maul was famously trained by the *strongest sith lord of all time,* Darth Sidious"
Literally any other Sith Lord: Am I a joke to you?
