    I don't care what the 'experts' and 'historians' say about there not being enough 'evidence' to support what was mentioned in the film. I know what was done with Ken was dirty and unethical. This film is not a documentary, it isn't supposed to be but it does get the essence of the story right, and which is that Miles was wronged because of bullshit corporate politics and marketing. Even though the 'experts' are conflicted about who would have won it was more than clear that it should have been Miles.

There's footage of teams intensionally driving in 1st gear for 20 minutes so they can miss 1sr place overall , so they can drive at optimal conditions at the end of the event .

    A lot of teams ask their drivers to slow down during a race. You have to choose how hard to run in an endurance race. It isn't a drag race where you go as hard as you possibly can for a few seconds. It's striking a balance between pushing hard enough to win, and taking it easy enough to last the whole race. Dan Gurney/Jerry Grant had just been at Sebring, where they were almost certain to win until their engine failed on the last lap and Miles passed Gurney. And then again, at Le Mans Gurney was driving about as well as Miles and would likely have been in contention for the win, until he had another engine failure that took him out of that race. So, yeah, while I don't think much of the attempt for a showboating photo finish, in general if your team has such a commanding lead that it's unlikely for anyone to catch you, having your drivers back off a little to increase your chances of all finishing the race without having a failure or an accident take out your cars absolutely is a sound strategy. Ford was 9 laps up on the first non-ford car. If , just hypothetically, they had run all out, it's at least possible that McClaren/Amon could have had a wreck with Miles/Hulme battling for the lead, and running harder caused the Bucknam/Hutcherson car have a failure that took it out of the race. In whcih case the 1966 Le Mans wold have been a 1-2-3-4 Porsche sweep.

    • @Loulovesspeed
      @Loulovesspeed ปีที่แล้ว

      @trikstari7687 - You really need to learn all of the many aspects of a corporate marketing function. There are far too many to be operated by one individual. The very success of the Mustang when it was launched in 1964 was the incredible marketing/advertising launch campaign that was put together to help insure the car's visibility! It's launch was a spectacular success which helped it to sell 32,000 Mustangs the first day and over 1,000,000 in a year and a half! As I said, you have a very limited idea of what the marketing function is and how it operates, especially in a large corporation. You also make it sound as though the marketing division runs completely on its own, and that is absolutely not true. They must work together with other interdependent divisions in order to function effectively. I will end by stating that I have a Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration with a major in Marketing, so I believe I am credible in my comments.

Did he mean he expects loyalty?? Like a freakin creep. This whole thing beebe had against Ken and Shelby makes no sense to me. Im missing something..He stood to gain nothing. So why the animosity???

      💯 Exactly !!! I Could Be Wrong Because Beebe Never Interested Me Enough To Look Into Him But I Don't Think He Was A "Car Guy", He Was An Executive (Snob Dickhead) That Had Prob Gone To College For A Biz Degree & Was Just Lucky Enough To Score A Job At FORD & Was Probably Jealous Of The Both Of Them Because Of The Passion That They Both Had For Thier Respective Crafts & Both Being A Man's Man But Again, This Is Just Speculation On My Part. Iacocca Wore A Tie Too But Had A Love Of Cars, So He Got What Shelby & Miles Were All About Where That Other Executive (Snob/Dickhead) Didn't !!! After All, Someone Just Needed To Be The "Villain", The Guy That You Love To Hate !!! LMFAO

    In order for this to have really worked, all 3 drivers had to be in on it. The retelling from Leo and the other drivers are from the perspectives of people who are in denial or openly know they are lying.
    Even in post interviews, he bragged about giving ken "counseling" regarding the race. That's just code for screwing him over if he wasn't a team player.

  • @PJOZeus
    @PJOZeus 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    For those who dont know, in reality, Miles was not in first. He was second, with ford cars in the top 3 slots. Leo instructed all the ford cars to slow down. It was a marathon, not a sprint. Plenty of other ford GT40's had already spluttered out and he thought it best to drive for endurance to ensure all 3 remaining could cross the line rather than blow out too.
    Miles ignored this order and kept his pace, acquiring first after a few more laps. It was at this point, because Miles had ignored the company's previous order, that the three way tie was decided upon. All 3 ford cars were to cross the line at the same time, no doubt with subtle threats towards miles to make him comply this time.
    Obviously miles was furious because he was first in leman and wanted to keep going, but all the same, the 3 way tie was had.
    Due to on the spot technicality, which neither ford nor the overseers knew about at the time, it was decided it wasnt a three way tie and that miles wasn't first, because one of the other ford cars started further back (Mclaren), and as such drove further in the same time (the amount he started behind miles).
    Miles may have been robbed of his first place, but only after he stole first to begin with, disobeying his bosses.

    • @brmbkl
      @brmbkl 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Shelby was team leader. Miles answers to Shelby.
      "because Miles had ignored the company's previous order, that the three way tie was decided upon."
      that makes no sense; if their decision for a dead heat photo op wasn't made at that point, why would they be mad that Miles rode all out like he always did. a blow out is only a problem if it actually happens. it wasn't the first time Mile took a (calculated) risk.
      the best thing to do for a photo op, was have Miles cross the finsh with the Fords, while they were laps behind. would still have the cars in the photo.
