I just did the 3.09 on my R/T and did it myself without help and did it in 3 hours. A bit aof a struggle lifting it but got and big difference. Great mod and thanks for the video couldn't do it without watching this. Appreciate it bro..
everything turned out great I used my 3 ton jack and a scissor jack to even out when lifting the differential it was a little difficult, but the boot on the passenger side got a little hole in it. I also use the OEM LSD differential fluid.. overall big improvement. You can feel it when pulling off I got my 0 to 60 lower. I do have Shorty headers. I also have a Diablo tune on 91 octane cold air intake. 4.6 seconds.
I also have a 392 intake manifold just need a port it and have everything with it watch all your videos and how you did it install, so I’m ready to install just the porting but other than that it’s pretty beast bro
Stumbled on this vid and wanted to clarify a few things. the 15 up Charger R/T's come with a conventional diff not an open diff. open style would always be driven by RR wheel. also 220mm and 230mm refers to the size of the ring gear not the size of the axles. I did the 3.09LSD on my 18 R/T about 2 years ago. IMO..this is a must do mod for a 15 up Charger R/T.
I so impressed, you're not being mechanic, did the replacement of the driveshaft part. To be honest, even replace wheel i am going to garage, cause not sure how exactly to do it without damaging something. Congrats on the result!
The cars put out enough torque to spin both wheels even with an open diff. You'll begin the notice the difference in wet conditions and when the car swings around corners

I reused the old driveshaft bolts and the bushings. Didn't need to replace them at 18k miles. Just inspect yours when you take em off, they should be fine

help me with this question i have a dodge charger rt 2016 hemi 5.7 and i want to know if i can install a rear end differential of a dodge charger hellcat,,thanks for you help!!
I have a 2016 police pursuit. Had a 262 open differential. It has the 5.7 and a 5speed automatic trans. I installed the 309 lsd differential based on your video. Our cars are identical with the exception of some badges. Now I’m finding out I can’t make this work without a unlocked PCM and a custom tune for the gear set. Car just goes into limp mode. Won’t shift. Stays in 3rd gear. How did you get yours to work with a unlocked pcm and a custom tune?
The 5 speed transmission doesn’t work properly without the tune. The 8 speed trans works fundamentally differently in that it doesn’t require a tune to function properly
If you are installing a mopar part, it is not supposed to void the warranty per mopar. I suspect, however, the caveat being this...if you install yourself and mess something up, then Dodge wouldn't hesitate to void the warranty
The speed sensors are on the front wheels. Gear change does not effect the speedometer. Now if you change the front tire height, then your speedometer would be off.
Theoretically, yes, but considering most wont ever have these cars up to 160-170 on a regular basis, it isn't noticeable. I don't notice any real differences at hwy speeds (65-90) so you should be good
The theoretical top speed with the 2.62 rear gears and 8 speed is ~266mph. With the 3.09 that drops to ~226mph. Neither of those speeds is achievable with any of the stock engines available with the charger. So in actual practice there is no top speed change.
Did you ever consider going with the 3.90 over the 3.09? I could get a really good deal on a used 3.90 right now so I was thinking about throwing that on my 18 rt rather than paying the premium for the 3.09
My Grandma did it while I was gone. Oh well, can't stress about everything. I went 3.09 because it's already a pain to launch these things (and so roll racing didn't take a hit). Let me know which one you decide on

If you hold your gas to the floor the car wont start meaning its priming the motor with oil and also helps the cam. Hold gas shut off then start up.
