I am a child of God, redeemed by the blood of Christ. The Holy Spirit has guided me through horrendous events. At 78 years of age I am without dependence on pharmacia and modern medicine. The peace that passes understanding is the by product of obedience to the Gospel. Not self righteousness but, the righteousness of the Creator and His amazing plan. Simple. Praise to His Holy name.

I would also say that stress is a response to not having control over situations. The world is a scary and unpredictable place, and we're constantly being told about the next thing we should be worried about. Once you're in that state of mind, it's easy to make even mundane things stressful, like finding a parking space at the grocery store. It's habit forming.

This is the way I do it: I view all life events as just a different spin on the kaleidoscope of constant change. I train myself daily to observe that what I want out of an event is just a personal view that is not so important. There are billions of personal views. So when any thought of "oh I expect this to happen" but then "it doesn't" arises, I see that it is just a thought and I attach a second thought "I am not worried". It's very calming to simply use the affirmation "I am not worried". But it never becomes a cliche to me because it is grounded in understanding of all events as transient and the grasping of them to satisfy some inner desire as just as transient. There is perpetual change, with every single blink of a moment different, like bubbles popping on the surface of a stream. New constructions, designs with each turn of the kaleidoscope. If someone practices this, as I do, they are guaranteed to achieve greater calm even in the midst of the hubbub. It relies on the Buddha's first noble truth (of suffering - due to internal desires, grasping, expectations) and on the factual reality of constant change.

The best ways to overcome the stress for me is not to exposing myself to stress, not holding back things that I should say to a friend or family member, put away all the high expectations from myself and look at my situation in every way realistically. Teach myself that to be the best version of myself not every day but every month or year and the last one is if something is out of my control then it should be out of my mind.

I generally take a walk or disconnect in some way and try to come back with another perspective. I remember having a precalculus problem I couldn't solve, frustrated the hell out of me. I took a walk from my dorm room to a vending machine, got an iced tea and came back to it, within 5 minutes I had it solved.
If it's a situation of conflict I used to try to avoid things then they'd boil over and ended up messy. I now try to handle those directly, diplomatically and firmly because the longer these situations drag on the more stress they generate. So for these, it's about communication.

I suffer from stress & anxiety on a daily basis. My mother & grandmother had the curse as well. I use Herb Pharm Anxiety Soother drops; it tastes worse than ACV but it helps calm me almost right away (or maybe it’s just the horrible taste that’s traumatizing so nothing else matters at the time). When under stress, I get migraines (another hereditary curse), I’ve also had (2 so far) huge cyst like creatures grow on my face; those 2x were when I was under the most stress. I also get fevers. Stress is an attack for me, I feel like I’m going out of my mind and helpless. Other than the drops, I tend to eat my feelings.

When I was playing a much better tennis player, I changed my mindset from getting stressed out and tense from the general thought of needing to be way better somehow, to much more concrete ideas. I thought in terms of increments. Like "okay, I need to move faster than the last time to get to the ball" rather, than "I need to go fast as possible" The attempt to achieve maximum output was more stressful and less productive, than seeing that I could improve each time inclemently. When it was successful, it was almost as if I could relax while also moving faster and more accurately because I knew what speed was required not just maximum effort. Of course, you have to adjust this as the other player is adjusting play trying to beat you throughout the game.

This outcome was not a gift. But, a rewards after exerting myself in the most stressful situations (knowingly) and using people through control to build on this cognitive transition.

Prayer is the highest form of meditation... so when I can and think of it in stressful situations will be praying inside

and not much you can do about it
I have Epstein Barr/Chronic Fatigue Syndrome ... and it hit me like a Mac Truck after finding out my Dad had Cancer
FINALLY...after a lifetime it hit me... I believe I heard my Guardian Angel tell me... change your attitude about it ... let it go... stay calm... and after that divine intervention... I am becoming better at doing that.

To deal with stressful situations, I first take a series of DEEP breaths, then I refocus my mind on God's Word, especially, what God promises me about those situations - thinking, "What would Jesus do? What would He want ME to do OR NOT do? Then I try to NOT let my mind dwell on the negatives of that situation and instead confess what the Bible says about it (verbally, out loud for my ears to hear me). Then I thank the Lord for the victory or strength He has given me in this and every situation, and move on. Whenever the thoughts of fear or stress return (and they often do), I would do the same thing above, because I know my mind had been so accustomed to look at the negatives in things and believe only the worst, so I know the battle continues in my mind and in my actions as I don't give up.
