    Is it enough to replace LS3 cam, VLOM, LS3 lifters and ECM tune to delete AFM and save VVT ? L99 2011 camaro ss

    Trying to help a buddy that I sold an 07-13 model truck to and it’s throwing a timing code. They say the chain seems loose and I was sure I lined the cam and crank up right. It’s one of those VVT single bolt cams and it’s just hard to see. I did replace the factory timing chain dampener with a LS2 style(solids plastic) any tips on lining that cam phaser up?

      It depends on the cam you are running. Whoever you buy they cam from will be able to advise what is needed

    FYI: This phaser limiter restricts the variable valve timing from 60 degrees down to 20 degrees of variability....
    MORE INFO (for the curious people)....The Cam Phaser is an adjustable sprocket that controls the position of the camshaft relative to the timing of the crankshaft. This is also known as Variable Valve TIming (VVT). The phaser can advance the cam timing at low RPM for a smoother running engine and ideal low RPM performance and then retard timing at higher RPM for more horsepower and performance. The adjustable sprocket is controlled hydraulically using engine oil and the computer to open the solenoid.

      The North Pole Santas Work Shop yes you can. Both LME and Katech offer a billet timing cover that allows the use of a LS3 cam sprocket and single cam bolt. The Katech piece is on back order.

      the vvt doesnt work at low rpm it works at high rpm advancing a few degrees the cam for more power and eficiency

    The problem with these phase limiters are that they do not fully lock out the cam sprocket, the sprocket can still slightly move on the inside , on the dyno there has been erratic readings and power loss issues with those phaser lockout kits. Ditch that setup and use a LS3 sprocket and billet timing cover. Also, that sprocket has to weight 10lbs, think about taking that rotating mass off the camshaft.

      Armando Monreal Late Model Engines offers the Gen V LT1/LT4 VVT delete front kit. Comes with a new billet timing cover, LS3 single bolt cam sprocket, cam bolt. Also it utilizes a LS3 front seal which is less prone to having failures like the factory LT style seal is plagued with. It’s $500, while it’s considerably more expensive, it’s well worth the investment.

    On a 2019 Gen V LT L82 5.3 there is a spring plunger behind the plate. Be careful when rotating it out of the way or the plunger and double spring behind it will shoot into a black hole.

    Thanks for making these videos. Do you need the phaser adjuster because of the new camshaft you are using? In other words, what would happen if you did not install the limiter? I just thought that the point of the vvt was to increase performance, so why is it necessary to limit it?

      Technically you could just use the ECU to control cam timing and limit the VVT via software. Since we are using a more aggressive cam we want to be sure to avoid any piston-to-valve clearance issues. Adding the physical cam phaser limiter is a form of added insurance. If there is ever some sort of error via a sensor or software the VVT might advance the cam too far causing valve interference. The cam phaser limiter will ensure it does not advance more than 20 degrees

    Is the center bolt necessary when you are replacing the cam limited? The outside bolts seem to be the ones that matter.

      Just to be safe we recommend putting it in. One of my buddies did this on his 6th gen Camaro and it flew apart on him and could easily take out an eye or worse.

    The first bolt I tried to loosen (@4:00) position, the freakin torque head stripped out of the the freak bolt. WTH , I had no choice but to drill it enough to get an easy out in it and remove it!!!!!’ &$”&#% I heard something pop when I took it out, that was the only bolt I removed. Did I screw something up??????

    I have a non dod with vvt cam I am going to install, do I still need to do this to the cam phaser? or can I leave it alone. it is basically a stock cam just non dod.

    Is this completely necessary if doing a dod delete with a factory replacement type cam

      You will need to check with the cam manufacturer. I'm not 100% sure if you keep the stock lobe sizes if it is. I did is a stage 1 which is only mildly more aggressive and it was necessary.

      @@TexasIslander exactly what happened to me, i ended up rewinding it and worked well. i drove the truck 30k more miles before selling it back to dealership. pretty sure still doing fine🤷🏽‍♂️ haven’t seen truck around since but i romped on it every chance i got and never showed any sign of anything👍🏽 hope this helps

      Good question. I regret not mentioning that. The cam phaser limiter limits the variable timing of the cam. From the factory it is capable of 60 degrees of phase. With the limiter it is closer to 20 degrees.

      This was added in our case because we are deleting DOD from the system with a different cam shaft.

      they took the word of someone and replaced the heads. valve spacing in the head was a few thousandths wider than the bore in the block, they were hitting the block bad, broke a few trunion castings and bent a few valves.
