Remind yourself to BREATHE. One thing jail/prison will teach you in spades is PATIENCE. A healthy dose of self-discipline will keep you safe.

As a former substance abuse therapist, I STRONGLY encourage you to attend meetings daily, even if you can only do online. I was very concerned when you said you haven't been to one since you got out of prison. All this positive preaching is nice, but without the support of other recovering addicts & some humility you'll relapse.

Every time you find yourself annoyed with the "house arrest" restrictions, remember how it was in prison. Appreciate the limited freedoms you have....... once upon a time, there was no such things as "house arrest" and "early release'. When I find myself not able to afford to buy anything but cheap food, I think of what I was forced to eat "on the inside", and cheap canned spaghetti "becomes" the best fettuccine Bolognese I've ever had. Consider your life before prison, too...... you have it better now, and with your new perspective of life, things will just get better for you. Hang in there, boss.

Haha! You are totally right. It’s all relative. Everything I have now is luxury compared to other times. Just having my health and sanity after so much drug use is a miracle in and of itself. I appreciate your comment ❤❤

Hi! I imagine you already know this, but if for some reason you don’t, you can go to meetings online. I went to an online OA meeting that was like a three month thing for newcomers.
I really happy for you. I know you’re gonna make it.

@@SmilesforMiles2024 I am glad you are feeling better and that you are looking forward to your future. I do understand how you can be extremely frustrated though - you can say you are in limo, stuck in a holding pattern of sorts and secluded from others. No need to apologize - that's how you feel. Although it's not easy to do I hope you can appreciate the little things in life that you are able to do - some of the things that were taken away from you when you were locked up. Please don't get discouraged no matter what your time will come. I just pray you will be ready for it when it happens. I'm curious are you working? Something I've learnt that I've keep pretty close is "get to > have to". Reframing your perspective every now and again just changes how life feels. You do this really well - like "I get to do laundry" instead of "I have to do laundry". I wonder whether there might be room for a bit of that, should the house arrest news not go according to plan. Not to get caught up in toxic positivity or anything, but really as a hack to see certain things a little bit differently.
If you're curious about the idea, check out Mel Robbins.

Have you considered hiring a Consultant to help facilitate your release (someone who knows what you need to do to get paroled)? Crossing your fingers and hoping may not be enough.
I’ve never had experience with a parole board. But…since you are incarcerated for drugs and you were using IV drugs wouldn’t the parole board want to see evidence of ongoing sobriety?
    12 step meetings, therapy, aftercare.
Wouldn’t they want to make sure you have developed and utilized resources in your community (obviously while abiding by the constraints of house arrest)?
Wasn’t that the point of getting house arrest (besides just getting out of prison)?
Will maintaining a job, meeting with your parole officer, being a good boy with your ankle monitor be enough to get you released?

Hi Brian, your very welcome for the Super Thanks donation. I am inspired by your hard work to improve yourself and you seemed to have really learned your lesson to not go back on drugs.
With your thoughts on your possible release from House Arrest in Mid September I hope that works in your favor. With people being released from Prison early for good behavior, I hope they take that into consideration for House Arrest as well. I think it is in your favor that they trusted you to go out on House Arrest fairly early and you got to be out of the jail environment for the rest of your sentence.
One suggestion I would have for when your are released, is that you have a plan to keep you busy and surrounded by people that you trust and are looking out for your best interest. It will be important especially at first to make sure you are in the best and encouraging environment possible. It is important to stay out of any environment that can tempt you to cause any relapse.
No need to worry about these types of videos I enjoyed hearing about your current situation.

Brian: Thanks for sharing this helpful way of thinking about your life. You experience and express what the Stoics (Epictetus) taught .. if we focus on what we can control we can be successful no matter what are the outside circumstances (what we cannot control) They contend that this is the path to happiness.. developing our character and choosing our actions. Your Mindfulness practice helps you focus and have the equanimity more often to just let be what you cannot control. I have no doubt that is a way of thinking and living that leads to happinees.

6:26 “if you stop working on yourself…” diet, schedule, screen time instead of meditating - wellbeing decreases gradually until it’s so bad that drugs actually sound helpful.
This feels similar to bipolar disorder. If I don’t sleep, get movement and nourishment, then my brain starts gradually making cocaine (mania). Sleep is not optional, and I have to use every tool I have to get to sleep. On that note, good night 🌙

Maybe I just need to pray… I’m not super religious but maybe prayer would help me. Thank you Brian for putting out content! ❤

I’m 7 years 10 months sober from alcohol and 1036 days from kratom. I’m an AA person and love it, but I have learned some great principles from your perspective and experience that have really helped me think of recovery in a new way. Im trying to implement some of these new ways of thinking in my journey and will keep coming back to hear more! Thanks for being here.

Hi Bryan. Former addictions counsellor here. One of your videos landed in my feed. I watched a couple, including your first one. I think sharing your journey out loud to help yourself and others is fantastic and I’m sure you’ve learned a lot about yourself in the process already. I will pray for you in this time of self reflection and ongoing recovery. Keep it up. 🙌🏼

Truly? Do you feel online telling or teaching others all about early sobriety is a good thing? I am curious. Learning about the spiritual principle of anonymity is a vey deep road. Online, in this format, I do not believe should be how one learns about themselves, make money, or pass his time. I have not heard one time about a sponsor, either.

    • @amberweiss3815
      @amberweiss3815 5 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

@@lynnees9828 considering he’s on house arrest, I’d say this is better than nothing. And it’s his choice to be anonymous or not so I’m not sure why that should bother anyone. By talking out loud and sharing, it’s allowing his brain to process what he’s learning. Yes, going to self help groups in person will be helpful when he can do that, but there’s nothing wrong with what he’s doing. Everyone’s journey looks different and what works for one person may not work for another, and that’s absolutely fine.

@@amberweiss3815 Agreed, yes. I was educated by old timers and learned truly about anonymity, is all. There is a reason it is said it is the spiritual foundation but you are right, not everyone follows or is a friend to Bill or Bob. Everyone has their own path. Thanks for answering.

If luck factors in, you sure have plenty of that because I’m positive you have a LOT of well wishers. I’m curious if you have a parole officer or something of that nature that checks on you? I’m a bit surprised they haven’t explained a process to you

What do you suppose will happen after you do get off the monitor? Will there still be restrictions and/or regular and surprise urine testing, a curfew, a requirement to find and keep employment, or any other such things? Do those rules and limitations vary for each individual, or is there an established program for parolees to follow?
Also, do you think you would be allowed to ever work in the heathcare field again if you chose to do so?

  • @kluckylap

Attended the day you knew your downfalls, and you should’ve never became a nurse to be able to take care of people. You knew you had stressors before you were even a nurse and you put peoples life in your hands because you are selfish at the end of the day. And everyone wants to make excuses for you saying oh everybody has problems. Have problems on your own and not take peoples life in your hands.

Hey sorry if this is a bit of a silly question but like, can you explain what you're allowed to do on house arrest? Like I am assuming you can go out to get prescription drugs or go food shopping? Is the ankle bracelet confined to say, not alerting until you are 5 miles from your house? Who is allowed to visit you and is there limitations on that? Thank you in advance
is the ankle monitor on all the time or can you take it off sometimes? like what if ur leg itches??
