So what does the bankrupt island have to fight back with?
Congrats! You are awarded the DPA First Medal~
Which island? Singapore island? British Island?
Here we go another low level Brit get triggered easily because they don’t wanna be criticized. Your hallucinating man get up and see how other countries are better.
@@DefensePoliticsAsia Last I checked the Bank Of England still has not paid Venezuela back it's gold.

It amazes me that Britain is still so arrogant despite having so little left to be arrogant about.
British politicians maybe, us normal brits are not like that.
Phantom Empire Syndrome
@@christopherburns5262every Brit I met was likeable. They were all “normal” working class people. I haven’t had the displeasure of meeting any of the arrogant ruling class
They have US on their call. That's why.
Britain can't help but be arrogant despite its current state.
It's a habit that's hard to shake.
The UK is a sad, poor, lawless backwater.
Your right and i live in England! Successive governments have fucked the people since the 1800's. The scum that pretend they have a right to rule run this dictatorship for their own gain. They lie and steal, they have turned large areas into war zones and slums and give huge state contracts to their mates. The indigenous population are pleasant and accepting of other cultures. The Po-lice just don't do their jobs and only police hurty words on fakebook and anything that criticises the state regime. There are no free elections.
Imagine, many UK politicians want to borrough Singaporean economic model.
Island full of white pedos.
you are so right 🤟
That was the plan with Brexit, which was the last dying gasp of the pride of the British people, but sadly ended up simply proving the fact that any kind of Singaporean-style economic revolution is simply impossible now.
The Blair government completely broke Britain. Whilst WW2 and the post-war US dominance was obviously responsible for most of the *material* damage to the country, psychologically speaking, it was the 1997-2010 Labour government (as well as the BBC, Guardian and other liberal Establishment groups) who finally destroyed whatever semblance of identity or self-respect which was left.
Since the 1990s, Britain simply ceased to be a serious place, with serious politicians or serious people. Everything is a joke now, no-one truly cares about anything (except maintaining the *appearance* that they care) and anyone who truly does - as happened with Brexit - is shouted down and pilloried.
The economist is guaranteed to have the worst take on almost every issue.
Wrong side of history every time. The collective west mouth piece . Cant take them seriously nowadays ..
It's fairly rational to consider that democratic structures suffer when a PM can rule for over 10years and even more so when there is in effect an unofficial "family dynasty" for this office. It doesn't really happen without serious democratic deficiencies. Have to side with the Economist on this one. BUT yes, generally the Economist does hit-pieces. But not always/on every matter wrong.
@@RandomYTStuff Why do you think the West want Democracy in every other country? Have we not seen the subversions, sanctions and outright wars conducted by the Champions of Democracy with pseudo human rights accusations and fake war crimes charges? Just look at Gaza. Look at the clowns elected in Ukraine and Argentina. When will people stop whoreshipping the western ideologies that the west doesn't even practice or follow? Israel is currently receiving military aid from the Land of the Free, the home of the brave! Championing the human rights of poor Israel in their campaign against women and children. While hopping that Ukraine will stand up to Russia to the LAST Ukrainian! Liberal Western Democracy is truly Democrazy, a complete accension from a flawed ideology to a religious fanatism that for some reason, cannot be challenged in the heads of the true believer. After decades if not centuries of repetition in the head of the mindless individuals by their former colonia masters. They are truly one with "god" of Democrazy.

I concur. President Nixon wrote in his memoirs, "LKY is a one or two politicians who appear in a century. He has the breadth and depth on political issues and he (Nixon) would like to appear as a fly on the wall hearing 2 giants debate, MacArthur and LKY. He also wrote LKY is a big man on a small stage."
Singapore was fortunate to have brilliant politicians with integrity who were helping LKY. Those names may be forgotten but it was the conductor who waved the baton who was remembered.
I think the UK doesn't have a its own politics, it's just just copy and paste from u.s., it has been that way after WW2.
As a British person I can safely say that The Economist doesn’t speak for me or the vast majority of British people. We’d love to have an economy like Singapore.
You can't 😂

But it is not politically expedient to have a 'Singapore on the Thames'
Or so I'm told.

London financial capabilities are superior to little Singapore's.
Almost all of what Singapore uses isn't created by Singapore either..

Apparently, we'd be 'racing to the bottom', though
Anyway, I'd never want to live under a dictatorial rule, so I couldn't care less.
@@scotlandtheinsane3359So why is the UK in a recession and Singapore isn't?
As an Australian - I agree with the comments coming from Singapore.
I live in uk, and you won't believe how angry we all are at our government right now, we've had 4 prime ministers that we did not vote for one after the other, we have hyper food price inflation and everybody is struggling with general cost of living, etc. People are complaining - why do we have a millionare PM that we did not vote for whilst everybody is struggling financially. Then of course we can afford to send very expensive Storm Shadow cruise missiles to ukraine whilst we've got these problems back home
Yeah, I was watching in horror from afar... Its literally democracy in failure... And I have no idea how you guys gonna fix this, if there are no good candidates stepping up to fight the good fight....
You're totally naïve if you think a Labour government will fix things.
To be honest, the country would be better off if all of the major parties failed at the next general election.
@@toma3025 I dont wish UK to fail, to be honest. But its not my country. Its beyond me.
I think you’ll find it’s two prime ministers we didn’t vote for. Boris at least won a general election outright.
Yeah strange to have a democracy with leaders that are not voted.
Singapore definitely has reason to be proud. Amazing growth and stability. But the sense of personal safety really appeals to many of us.
The state of the western leadership, and govts universally is abysmal.
Just was talking with a friend. People keep voting these people to power, cry and complain, and then vote for the same people again. We have the leaders we deserve.
He my friend, I am from the UK (Scotland) and I just have to say Mr Shanmugan is correct. In fact the way he describes the British government is exactly the way the huge majority of the common man here also feels about them.........if only we had a Mr Shanmugan!!! We can only hope😁✌️

IMO as an Englishwoman I agree with you completely & I'm very pleased for your good governance & good social conditions.
I'm ashamed of our UK governance, both main parties, who both serve the globalists not the people. I'm ashamed by our moral degradation in society & corrupt, deceitful government.
Fair do 's - you do us a favour by speaking truth.
Good on Minister Shanmugam !

Tory party mp's.
...that explains why the UK Parliament appears to be full of people of questionable morality and ability....
As if this same thing didn't happen with the previous Labour government - remember the benefits scandal, Denis McShame etc.
Cameron destroyed the Conservative party in 2010 by stuffing it full of self-serving, spineless careerists, in exactly the same way as Blair did with the Labour party in 1997.
That's the problem with landslide elections: the candidates for the winning party barely have to compete, so you end up with exactly the kind of slimy, self-serving trash that we have today.

What are we gonna do with all the stormtroopers? Help the US try to maintain its global empire?
@@KoIossov Well without US hegemony in the world, UK would definitely go into oblivion, because since the days of Magret Thatcher, UK manufacturing shrank and now the biggest contributor to the economy is the financial sector, if BRICS is successful in building a multi-polar world then:
1. UK may enter into stagflation because London might get isolated from the most profitable financial markets which is those of emerging markets, plus let's not forget London for a longtime has been the safe haven for Russian Mafias, Middle East oil princes, African kleptocrats, Indian Raj billionaires and the likes of such questionable characters and you know how they really like splashing their dirty money in UK.
2. China's Road and Belt project is actually meant to shift global trade back to Asia and the Indian ocean like it was before with the silk road from the dominance of the Atlantic ocean and America, meaning Hong Kong and Kuala Lumpur would become the biggest international financial centers dethroning New York and London.

I've learnt to ignore the Western (English) press many years ago. They are dominant in their influence but are utterly irrelevant.
All true....
The sum total of the Indian experience with the Brits has been exactly the same. One example is how the Brits today tell us that we should be grateful to UK for colonizing India or else India would "never have had trains."
A simple counter to this is how come India managed to build one of the world's 7 premiere space programs even though UK had left India long before human spaceflight actually started? How come India today lands on the Moon yet UK can't launch _anything_ to even low earth orbit, despite having MORE spaceports than India?
And if India could make a space program on its own, then what makes the Brits think that India wouldn't have made Railways on its own?
The other example is Brits talking about how we should be grateful to them for their "British aid to India" which is:-
1.) Less than 1/5th of the amount India gives as aid to other poor countries per year.
2.) Is not given to Indian government but to British-backed NGOs that then use these funds to lobby in India for British business interests or else foment fake protests and civil unrest targeted at Indian infrastructure projects (a form of economic war being waged on India by the Brits). Situation so bad, Indian government has enacted the FCRA Act to curb such nefarious foreign-funded NGOs.
3.) Government of India has repeatedly asked the Brits to stop sending "aid."
Many other examples exist, but these are the top two that come to my mind.
The British built the Indian railway system so as to loot India effectively.
It worked very well.
Since that time British propagandists have patronised Indians with the 'we British were so kind we built you idiot Indians your railways'.
An UK Archeologist was digging in the earth to 100 years ago. He found copper and proudly proclaimed to the world that the UK invented the telephone. Not to be outdone, the Chinese started digging and after reaching the one thousand year mark, they found glass. They hence proudly proclaimed to the world that they had invented fibre optics and the internet. The Indians then started digging, and after reaching the 10 thousand year mark, they found nothing. The Indians then announced to the world that they had proof that they invented wireless communications.
@@nopenonein India started digging and found nothing? Lmao. Google the name Jagdish Chandra Bose. Requires no physical digging, it is recorded how he helped make wireless communication a reality.
India doesn't need to dig in order to prove its ancient steel prowess, enough has been written about Indian Wootz Steel. I could go on and on about stuff found at Indian archeological sites. But when even modern engineering is unable to replicate some of the currently standing Indian historical monuments like the Musical Pillars of Hampi, at that point, childish comments like yours just fall flat on their own, I don't even need to respond. It is as ridiculous as claiming that USA did not land men on the Moon, when they very clearly did.
India didn’t do that. It just copied NASA in faking space. The US, Russia and China have been doing it for decades already. It’s all fake, CGI stuff.

As much as I don't like PAP and LKY, I have to admit that PAP is more capable of running the country than the opposition at this point, despite the opposition having a better mindset and attitude. Despite LKY running Singapore with an iron hand and being a hypocrite imo, he did made Singapore prosper and have low crime rates. And seriously, western politicians need to self reflect. Ever heard these words, "....remove the plank in your own eye first, only then you can remove the sawdust in your brother's eye," or something like that.
