    The XEGS made more sense than the 5200 JR anyways.

    From what I've read in the AtariAge forums multiple Jaguar 2 prototypes still exist. Some are just an empty case, while others have everything on the boards save for the Puck chip. Tom's replacement, Oberon, is in place, but Jerry's replacement, Puck, is missing. Even the additional RAM and the Motorola 68EC020 (replacement for the original Jag's Motorola 68000) are still in place. The 68EC020 is a 32 bit variant of the 16-bit 68000 that is fully backwards compatible with it. Perhaps the Puck chip was never manufactured. At any rate Jerry was put in its place and the system worked perfectly with all existing Jaguar 1 games. Perhaps someone will one day produce the Jaguar 2. Hasbro briefly owned Atari in 1999 and freed up the copyrights on the Atari hardware.

      I have done a whole video on the Jaguar 2 (linked below for you) and yes, there are no Puck chips, but the design for the chip was finished. So quite a few years back a group of people were going to recreate it using FPGA, but sadly that never came to anything. Shame as it would be great to see what Jaguar 2 was capable of.

    Wait...the Atari XEGS actually released in the US. I have actually seen one in the wild, in box. My goto retro shop is selling it and they have quite a few games for sale as well.

      Yes, it was primarily designed for the U.S. market. I go into detail on this bit in the two XEGS videos that I've made.

    The Atari Video System X looks like it has even more B&O design elements on it than the final version does. The Ataris look like Beomaster receivers from the late 1970s.

    for me, the retro gaming scene ends when the chips are too hard to solder and when you don't get documentation anymore without an NDA where you have to sell your soul to the devil.
    chips need to be documented in detail with good application notes and examples.
    this way you own the hardware that you bought. this is not the case anymore and i really hate that.

    I want that atari 5200 jr sooo much,if jack tremiel was straight responsible for not releasing it,screw him,IF that’s the case,because i only tout that he was responsible to supposedly never release the atari 7800 but eventually delayed it instead,
    Also that atari jag duo looks freaking damn cool,because to be all hornest with you i find the atari jaguar and atari jag CD look UGLY and lazy and once mashed up together they will look together more like a toilet rather then a game’s console.

    Has anyone by chance come across that new book by the lairds lair in audio only format? Seriously, looking to see if there's an audio version for a fan with vision probs....I don't know if computers just read them now instantly or they gotta be made by the author

      I was going to do audio books a while back, but it's an awful lot of work as you have to voice them all yourself.

    I have NEVER seen or heard of those tablets before! Entering a highly competitive market like that was commercial suicide IMO.

    • @paulie-g
      @paulie-g ปีที่แล้ว

      Meh. They were all rebadges of existing low-cost tablets I reckon, so a low cost up front. Chinese OEMs for these will do a branded version for free with a 1-10k order, easily. And the low costers seem to do well enough to continue making new ones. I just don't think the sets of people who like Atari, people who are prepared to play their games in emulation, people who are prepared to pay for that emulation given excellent free and open alternatives, and people who are prepared to pay a non-negligible premium over a low-end tablet to do all that overlap much, if at all. It doesn't make sense to have a tablet just for Atari emulation alongside your main tablet, and people with disposable income would rather own a nice tablet and use it instead.

    The Japanese assisted atari to do some serious introspection 😄 after showing them what real video games are.
