Better looking. 16:10 aspect ratio makes the smaller screen feel comparable to a 16:9 larger 15.6. Also, picked up a mint open box for 860 at Best Buy. Can’t beat it.

    I am still debating if I should go for the G14 or the G15. I am 3D production professional, do alot of work in Maya, Blender, Houdini and Spainter. If the G14 had a Nvidia GPU, I would 100% go for the G14 2022 model. I don't want to purchase the last gen model with 3060, as I think purchasing the latest model will benefit more in the long run especially with the webcam and MUX Switch. Nvidia is still far ahead for rendering and 3D workflow. I will just have to purchase the G15 with Nvidia GPU for this generation unfortunately. Comments are welcome please. Thanks for the video.

      I had the same concern. I'm a design student, and I plan to learn 3d as well. I went for the 2021 nvidia model, and got a super sweet deal on it as well. I think the webcam problem isn't that big for me cause I already own a mirror less and an external webcam that I use. I think you can manage the lack of camera by buying an external one, but you can't really get a gpu externally ( for cheap).

      Perhaps you can also search for this year's models of Asus's Nvidia powered gaming laptops. The Ryzen APU models would be less expensive than Intel laptops however, and they will have considerably better battery life too. Also consider that if you will be pushing the laptop hard with very long renders, set the temperature limits for the CPU at 80C and for the GPU at 75C, and don't turn on the fan at max speed in order to extend its life. That way the laptop will serve you for much more and there will be almost no degradation with these temps.

    • @BenGKaiser
      @BenGKaiser  2 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      I do not have personal results, but both will perform the same when Eco mode is turned on because that bipasses the GPU and only runs the system on the CPU.
      If the comparing 6800S and 6700S in action for battery life the 6700S will get slightly better battery life because it is drawing slightly less power.

    • @one_step_sideways
      @one_step_sideways 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      The GPU gets turned off completely while on battery at Eco mode. Otherwise the laptop would only work for around 3-4 hours because with those GPUs the laptops have around 20-25W power consumption on standby. With the iGPU however (which is powerful too) it would consume around 5-7W on standby.
      It's also not just the CPU, it's an APU, which is basically a combination of a CPU and a powerful iGPU, something like the 28W TDP Intel CPUs inside Intel Macbooks with Iris Pro graphics. This also means that every gaming laptop effectively has two GPUs and you can try to pass through the discrete GPU to a VM for the Mutahar maneuver (playing videogames at native speed on a virtual machine)

    I own an A 3080 desktop which plays every game at triple A max settings at 120 fps easily but what I will say between the screen battery life and performance although not the greatest at this price point it makes up for it by fulfilling multiple roles I can use it to take notes for hours on end and not have to worry about the fans kicking on while idle on my old gaming laptop plus if you dial in your settings properly you can hit 120 fps qhd easily on e sports titles and 60 fps on story which is really all most of us need. Otherwise probably the best all rounder you can buy and coming from intel and nvida it made me join the amd hype train.

      If you aren't gaming on it full time then definitely go for a 6700S version. It's still very fast. Though personally because I am not gaming either but mostly do programming and occasionally some light gaming, and I want to be on a budget, I would go for the new Asus Vivobook S14/S15 with a Ryzen 6800H and no dGPU and 16GB RAM, once they hit store shelves

    • @one_step_sideways
      @one_step_sideways 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Definitely, it can also be powered continuously with the GPU running at around 50W - as long as the total power consumption is less than 90W for the whole laptop. So basically you can play games at Silent mode. Just make sure to have the CPU cooled properly because I've seen the laptops running at more than 80C for the CPU and GPU on Silent, you should set an 80°C limit for CPU and 75°C limit for GPU where the laptop would either ramp up the fans or have a hard limit and throttle the speeds

  • @DarkFox2232
    @DarkFox2232 2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

    There is soldered DDR5 on board. No matter how fast memory you put into replaceable slot, it will not run above limitation of soldered RAM. G14 uses 4800MHz DDR5 which is slowest of available memories. ASUS X13 uses 5600MHz and some other laptops use 6400MHz. It is not as big deal as users will use dGPU, so CPU does not need to share memory bandwidth with iGPU.
    G14 has poor cooling design, It is definition of style over substance. Worst is hot air blowing against lower part of display where screen has its electronics.
    Would G14 been designed by someone with bit more practical mind, it would be great device. As it is still impressive device even with obvious critical design flaws.

    I have been a console gamer and I am gonna buy g14 over ps5 and gaming is mostly all I’m worried about. I work out of my truck which is when I do most of my gaming. I am still on the fence between the 6700 and 6800. Not worried about the price difference but thermals between the 2 units at the same fps. My understanding is you can fine tune the watts on either one to get the fps that’s acceptable and not overheat the laptop so if you had the 6800 but turned down the watts the thermals should stay in check. The reason I am focused on thermals is being outside in a truck in the summertime. Any info would be greatly appreciated. Sub on the way…

    • @freddyhung
      @freddyhung 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Yes, on AMD laptops there's two ways to "turn down the watts" that's called limiting the TDP through software. THe G14 and all Asus ROG models came pre-installed with a proprietary control layer called "Armoury Crate" which lets you choose and toggle with shortcut keys between power profiles that allow for cooler CPU temps without sacrificing gaming performance. At leas 3 or 4 pre sets are already configured with that in mind. If you want to limit the watts even further than the Armoury CRate software, you can google and research about a little app called AATU (AMD APU Tuning Utility) which lets you a finer control of the maximum wattage of the CPU, thus allowing the total system heat to be as lower as your gaming requirements will admit!.
