Sony makes $70 revenue on one game which is equivalent to 7 months of Xbox gamepass. Each of Sony’s game can can sell between 5mil to 25mil. I don’t imagine Microsoft making profit with just 25m subscribers.
As someone who’s been playing FFXIV since 2012, the original reason why it’s not on Xbox is because they didn’t wana cross play with PS3/4 and PC. However now the reason why it’s not on xsx is because ms want ffxiv on gamepass and SE said fk that. They would lose on monthly subs first of all, and second reason is because it’s cross platform and play means if you play ffxiv on pc or ps already and want to play on Xbox. You’d be forced to subscribe to an additional service if you wanted to play on that platform. So gamepass is the reason why FFXIV isn’t on Xbox.
Hope to see it on Spartacus. I think the FFXIV team has also been busy with Endwalker however, I wouldn't doubt Microsoft's focus on Gamepass could hinder getting games like FF14 onto their platform.

It doesn’t make sense to put a game that has a monthly subscription on a service that itself requires a monthly sub. The game is already on ps4/5 (they discontinued the ps3 version a few years back), there’s no need to put it on psnow/Spartacus.
@@Inutero489 also a couple years back when Yoshi P (lead director of FFXIV) was asked about a potential Xbox version of the game, he said they had a demo of it up and running for the console, they just needed a green light from ms side. But it looks like they couldn’t come to an agreement which I suspect is the fault of their gamepass centric focus for their gaming division. I’ll also add that it has nothing to do with this being SE side problem or that it a subscription or cross platform game. FFXI (SE first mmo) was on the Xbox360, cross platform with the ps2/3 and PC. So they had no issue with SEs mmos back then, but they have so much issue with getting ffxiv in the xbo and xsx this gen. And we know what the difference is now compared to then, and that’s where ms focus is with their gaming division. Gamepass is the roadblock for FFXIV to get on the xsx.

They wanted a big JRPG on their platform so they cut a deal with SE that if they brought FF13 to Xbox, they would make an exception allow FF11 Cross play. Xbox gave up on Japan, and the FF series is no longer what it was, so Xbox probably told SE to play ball or get bent.

The crossplay charge only applies if people play more on sony's servers but spend for mtx on other platforms, that's why for example in genshin impact if you registered as a playstation account you can only buy mtx on the playstation store. He's even subtle by referring to the cross-play fee as a fine and created an example involving a small amount of revenue just so he can paint the image of Sony throat punching small developers. If you want to see who Destin really is, look at any video where he discusses earnings reports from Microsoft. He is the living example of the phrase "shit-eating grin" in those videos and the fact that he tries to act like he's a regular gamer when he's not busy deepthroating Microsoft is disgusting.

Gamers weren't asking for God of War to reinvent itself but they sure as hell loved it when it did. That's where being a good developer, and eventual market leader, comes into play. The best way to do that is with quality ideas executed to near perfection. Battle Royale was around for ages before Fortnite or even PUBG entered the frame but it took those, particularly Fortnite to do it better than anyone else and with polish to bring people in. Being free also helped it immeasurably.

The Ori story is true, however I don't know for certain about the crossplay side of things. I think Sony tried to do it back in the 360/PS3 era, and Xbox denied it. Then when PS blew up in popularity with the PS4, Xbox probably asked about it and got denied.

Gamepass has plenty of games you can sink some serious time into. It all depends on how much time you wanna spend on it. If you choose to play trough it multiple times and earn certain trophies you can and that wil increase the hours you spend on it. If you don’t finish a game that’s on gamepass then that’s on you. The only way you couldn’t finish a game or put some serious time in it is when gamepass removes the game.

The largest third party publisher was just purchased for $68 billion. Putting this into perspective, in 2020, Activision earned $9 Billion in revenue. In that period EA only earned $6.3 Billion (33% less), Take Two earned $3.3 Billion and Ubisoft earned a whopping $1.8 billion. Activision consists of 44% of the revenue earned by big western publishers by these numbers alone. Call a spade a spade. This is very close to, if not an outright, monopoly in the AAA multiplatform industry.

As an Xbox fanboy, I enjoyed Halo Infinite campaign and thought it was decent. However, after playing Mad Max and Rage 2 (both old games), Halo Infinite is unacceptable as a next-gen experience.

As someone who’s been playing FFXIV since 2012, the original reason why it’s not on Xbox is because they didn’t wana cross play with PS3/4 and PC.
However now the reason why it’s not on xsx is because ms want ffxiv on gamepass and SE said fk that. They would lose on monthly subs first of all, and second reason is because it’s cross platform and play means if you play ffxiv on pc or ps already and want to play on Xbox. You’d be forced to subscribe to an additional service if you wanted to play on that platform.
So gamepass is the reason why FFXIV isn’t on Xbox.
Hope to see it on Spartacus. I think the FFXIV team has also been busy with Endwalker however, I wouldn't doubt Microsoft's focus on Gamepass could hinder getting games like FF14 onto their platform.

I’ll also add that it has nothing to do with this being SE side problem or that it a subscription or cross platform game.
FFXI (SE first mmo) was on the Xbox360, cross platform with the ps2/3 and PC. So they had no issue with SEs mmos back then, but they have so much issue with getting ffxiv in the xbo and xsx this gen. And we know what the difference is now compared to then, and that’s where ms focus is with their gaming division.
Gamepass is the roadblock for FFXIV to get on the xsx.

Xbox gave up on Japan, and the FF series is no longer what it was, so Xbox probably told SE to play ball or get bent.

Microsoft tracks a million different metrics in their shareholder reports but the only gamepass specific information in there is regarding growth expressed as a percentage. Do you mean to say that you think gamepass is profitable and for some reason this one quote is the only time Microsoft has decided to publicly call gamepass profitable?
It's not like Microsoft doesn't announce good numbers when they have them. They had no problem announcing subscriber counts when the raw number was impressive. They actually announced sales numbers for Forza last year despite their repeated insistence that monthly active users is the metric they care about. Last month Nadella announced the total player count for halo infinite. I'm trying to show that Microsoft can be very direct and obvious when reporting good news; the fact that they have been cagey and deliberate when talking gamepass profitability speaks volumes.

He wants everything exclusive because Microsoft bought Activision, but Sony building their own IP as exclusives is a bad thing. He ignores the fact that the fee that Indy devs had to pay to be on the platstation store is also present on xbox. Hell, IGN itself did a follow up article s couple months back interviewing indy devs and reporting that Sony had improved its policies, but somehow Destin must have missed that one.
He's even subtle by referring to the cross-play fee as a fine and created an example involving a small amount of revenue just so he can paint the image of Sony throat punching small developers.

@@artvandalleigh7894 Yeah I agree with that. Many people often don't know what they'll like until they get a taste of it themselves and the hard part is getting them to try. The best way to do that is with quality ideas executed to near perfection. Battle Royale was around for ages before Fortnite or even PUBG entered the frame but it took those, particularly Fortnite to do it better than anyone else and with polish to bring people in. Being free also helped it immeasurably.

Streaming is going to be used way more in the future, and what's funny about that is Sony went from being in the worst spot with streaming to the best. They are partnered with MS to use Azure, and they just bought Bungie which has Google streaming tech that they probably have access to now, on top of their own streaming tech. They have everything they need to have the best streaming out of everyone.
If they actually do anything with all of it, who knows. Time will tell

The Ori story is true, however I don't know for certain about the crossplay side of things. I think Sony tried to do it back in the 360/PS3 era, and Xbox denied it. Then when PS blew up in popularity with the PS4, Xbox probably asked about it and got denied.

Gamepass has plenty of games you can sink some serious time into. It all depends on how much time you wanna spend on it. If you choose to play trough it multiple times and earn certain trophies you can and that wil increase the hours you spend on it.
If you don’t finish a game that’s on gamepass then that’s on you. The only way you couldn’t finish a game or put some serious time in it is when gamepass removes the game.

The other thing he’s conveniently ignoring is Sony can make $1.2 billion by “converting” their fanbase into $9.99/month SUBSCRIBERS and just have access to the full library but that would most likely negatively impact sales of each individual game with something like, say, Spider-Man 2018 (which I believe they said, upon the last update, it sold about 20 million copies) that can make pretty damn close to that amount ALONE if ends up being a 10+ million sales blockbuster (and that’s just off a SINGLE MASSIVELY SUCCESSFUL PRODUCT).

There are literally people out there spreading nonsense and not understanding that the $70B purchase won’t have a return from the Gaming division for years to come. The Xbox division is operating in the red, and Microsoft is allowing that I HOPES that Gamepass kicks off within the next 10 years or that’s another failure.

One thing I have never understood about IGN personalities such as Destin and Brian Altano is that they surround themselves on camera with a bunch of toys and plastic junk from their favorite pop culture properties, take pictures of themselves with their favorite plastic box to play games on and knowingly try to entice some weird console war for clicks. What a lot of people fail to realize is that the Activision/Blizzard acquisition its meant to give MS so much more breathing room in the sense that a lot of those games are just cash cows and will help sustain gamepass since its not profitable. It will buy them more time for potential peoople sub'ing to gamepass.

As an Xbox fanboy, I enjoyed Halo Infinite campaign and thought it was decent. However, after playing Mad Max and Rage 2 (both old games), Halo Infinite is unacceptable as a next-gen experience.
I'm amazed Halo fans have still not learned the weak capabilities of 343 as a studio, it's been nonstop swings and misses from them. Not total travesties necessarily, but big problems and disappointments and certainly not pushing the genre forward like Halo as an IP is supposed to do. The Halo name just doesn't carry the same weight it used to, it's been over a decade since Reach came out
Halo isn't a next gen game, it's crossgen, same as all Sony games. Only the Xbox has next gen games coming this year.
