Once again, I want to thank you all so much for your support through this G5 journey! It has been 2 years building up to this point, and while I have enjoyed reviewing Make Your Mark, I believe it is time for me to focus on some videos that are actually about something I liked.

I feel so bad for the people who made the G5 movie. While the final product was flawed, it was clear that the people behind it were trying their best to set up a new generation of mlp. Writers of MYM did not even try to make anything more than a safe kids' cartoon. What a waste of potential and a stain on G4's legacy.

the movie was about as good as it can get with some reasonable flaws. the voice acting was good, it wasn’t too baby-ish.. but this?? i literally can’t force myself to watch more of it and i’ve seen less than one season

which is a shame G5 had potential and there are so many good moments in there but they don't focus on those moments or flesh them out

I think G4 was made originally with some genuine love for the property. That's why it was so good. G5 was just made as a cash grab to ride the coattails of G4's success.

G5 was made to bridge the gap between the two. It is clear they were seemingly moving away from G4 lore towards the end. Thge issue is Hasbro and losing control over their own Ip... AGAIN! So because of all the legal bullshit Make your Mark suffered as a result. It also Hasbro literally knee capping it from the start by pulling Boulder Media off the production of the show itself.
No. G1 was the first iteration of MLP. It kicked off the property and let's be honest, every generation has been made to sell toys. It feels like Lauren Faust produced a good show due to her love of the original generations. She put heart into it. There was a long time in between G3 and G4.
But G4 was just a big a mess as G5 is.

G5 has got to be nothing more than a fever dream after Twilight ate too many hayburgers. There is no way to piece together the cannon to G4, especially when entire species no longer look as they once did, and things don't even function the same way anymore.

And also Twilight did EXTENSIVE genetic modification of multiple species for no good reason
And also the Island of Scaly isn't the dragon lands, but developed its own tradition of dragon lord because ???

To me, it just doesn't make sense that if Opaline was supposedly was around when Celestia and Luna were FILLIES, and Spike has come back to be the new dragon lord, shouldn't Twilight be alive? And also what about Cadence, Flurry Heart and Discord? As well as Celestia and Luna? It was proven in Gen 4 that all of them were immortal. And what about the Windigos? Shouldn't they have come back when every pony rase was fighting and hating on each other? It just doesn't make sense... So many unanswered questions!
Actually the comics give info on what happened to discord, and the comic had better writing.
Basically the characters visit the ruins of Canterlot and after falling down a trap door, they meet an old discord, and he stole the crystal out of fear of magic returning and causing more problems

I don't exactly know if it was proven in _G4_ that they were immortal, if anything G5 proved it with Opaline (or maybe she's been trapped in a place like limbo for centuries) but I could be missing something there.
But it would be weird if all of the older alicorns were directly killed, travelled somewhere else, or trapped somewhere?? If they are immortal and didn't just die naturally, I mean.

Not only do the dragons have ‘cutie marks’ but Sparky himself was born with wings, even though we saw through Spike that dragons get their wings at a later stage as they moult.
I mean that could be excused with the fact it's been hundreds of years. And that maybe evolution or magic changed it.
The other things like how the older dragons look however, doesn't make sense

I’m pretty sure most dragons were born with wings and that spike only gained them because as Zechora states the molt comes with little surprises. And that Spike gaining wings was his surprise implying that the molt leads to different developmental anomalies for some dragons.
Funny how G4's shoes were too big for G5 to fill and it would've been easier to judge it less harshly were it set in an isolated universe.

G5 is like an overdrawn G4 fanfic at this point. The show takes wayyy too far ahead in the future for them to be able to add stuff and for it still to be connected to G4.
They could have done it and make it work, but they were probably too lazy for that. In that case, it may have been better to make two cmpletly different univers, if they were too lazy to make it coherent..

@@eglol sadly, that’s the case. Because in Chapter Five, Elder Flower mentions it’s been around five generations since G4. AKA, only around a hundred to two hundred years.
My biggest gripe is they never answer WHAT HAPPENED to all the other alicorns! Opaline is so incredibly incompetent as a villain; where are Twi, Flurry Heart, and Cadence? Why is Opaline still around and the others have vanished? I thought Spike would fill us in but nope, just more confusing and sloppy world building (if you can call it that).
Considering it was Twilight who got rid of the magic, and she and the other princess are literally charged up magical batteries, she had to have put herself and the other princesses in some kind of deep slumber like the dragons. Or maybe they all went to the human world and hid there, who knows. She has options though, like a lot of options. I'm going to guess that she is in a pocket dimension like the original elements of harmony, and at some point in the next chapter or so, she is going to be released. Along with discord and the princesses.
I will say, G5 has a lot of great potential when the movie dropped, but after watching the entire of Make Your Mark, it’s just sad that all of the great concepts go to waste. There are a few good moments that makes it enjoyable, but everything else is just a mess. Man, what a wild ride.

So apparently why dragons have cutie marks according to the wiki “Each dragon has special dragonfire magic with different abilities. Currently we know that Spike has teleportation magic, Sparky has transformation magic, Tumble has wind magic, Luxxe has light magic and Fountain has water magic. What types of dragon magic other dragons have, like Blaize, Leaf, Jade, or Lava is currently unknown.” So like Elemental Dragons….?
Wait so if dragons' "cutie marks" are related to their type of magic, then why doesn't cocomelon have one? He can use his transformation magic just fine as a baby.

I would assume that Leaf has nature magic, Blaize has regular fire magic, Jade has crystal magic, and Lava has, well the very obv lava/magma magic. But we didn't really get to see any of that besides the regular dragon fire all dragons typically seem to have.

The part of G5 that i dislike the most is the lack of caring for the rest of the mane 6 that aren't twilight, like, it's *THE MANE 6* , not TWILIGHT & her friends, is it that difficult to say "rainbow dash was one of the most legendary flyers to ever exits" or "rarity was the most glamorous unicorn ever" or even "fluttershy was kind"

You wanna know why, despite Opaline getting all the Cutie Marks, I wasn't worried?
Not because of the obvious fact the good guys would win... but because nopony had any negative reaction to losing their mark other than fear or sadness.
In season 5, it was made quite clear, when Starlight was removing Cutie Marks, it HURT!
Twilight and the Mane 6 seemed to be genuinely in either pain or severe discomfort as their Marks were being removed.
Yet, in G5, it's not even a problem. They come off as easily and painlessly as a water tattoo.
As for the locket part? I thought this show took place in the same universe as G4, not G1!
You can't have it both ways, Make Your Mark. Pick an MLP generation you want to bastardize and stick with it!
Hay, there's been more coherent references to G1 than G4 throughout all of Make Your Mark, so why didn't they just stick with being in the same universe as G1?
I'd actually think that would add way more depth and meaning to the show than being connected to G4 has been.
As for Secrets of Starlight, I'm even more underwhelmed than I thought I'd be, and that's saying something.
Is it supposed to be the new version of the Crystal Empire?
Logically, doubt it. Nothing looks even close aside from being near snow and the crystal ascetic of the horns... not to mention it would make NO SENSE that the future version of the Crystal Empire is in another world that needs a portal to get there!
Then again, the Dragon Lands weren't a separate island nor lush with tropical vegetation in G4, so why should I be the least bit surprised if G5 decided to completely alter everything about the Crystal Empire too?
Ember's absence and not being the Dragon Lord is a HUGE plot hole as, unless Opaline killed Ember before Twilight sent Spike to go with the dragons, it makes no sense why Spike is the Dragon Lord and was even before Twilight’s somehow Dumber than we originally thought possible plan was put into motion.
At least G5 proper isn't making Discord an old fart who CAN use magic, but isn't doing anything with it, like, I dunno, PUNISH Opaline for ruining everything he'd have held dear!
I'm incredibly inclined to write a story specifically for the purpose of de-legitimizing G5 out of spite. Like how Running with Scissors retconned Postal 3 and turned it into a running gag, when Rick killed the Space Jam 2 counterparts of him and Morty and also how Avengers #200 was undone.

I think taking the cutie marks away wasn’t painful because when starlight used to do that, she cast a spell on a staff but opaline used a totally different spell, which is more painless and easier since if posey actually screamed in pain, the chapter would have ended in chapter 5
@@baeldaikokuten_yj6792 what they meant by is that Starlight removing The Mane Six’s cutie marks more negatively effected them. Like, Pinkie losing her spirit, Applejack losing her strength and talent of countryisms, or Fluttershy no longer being able to understand animals or communicate with them.
I remember being cautiously optimistic at start of g5, then the movie made me really hopeful, the special made me bqck to cautious, and then the series made me slowly lose braincells

@@AxsorXI I mean, most bronies do not support hasbro and that's kind of the problem, because they just don't make up a significant market, just enough to be acknowledged. If more of them coughed out money then there would be more of a focus on them because hasbro is a corperation and they do run on money and the desire for money.
Why does the main villain look like someone's first OC? The colors are SO obtrusive and hurt my eyes.

The heart locket is a call back to Gen 1 ponies from the 80s. From a human girl named Megan. She always helping the ponies from danger in the pony world.

When I saw the locket open, I was like “is that the first time the Rainbow of Light has been referenced in the G4-G5 continuity outside of just rainbow lasers?”
And then I remembered, nope, the Generations comic beat them to it
I watched G1 as a child long time ago, but i totally forgot about the heart locket, until someone mentioned the locket Sunny got looked like this one from G1. I think it was a nice reference to G1 that they brought the magic rainbow in G5, if only it they didn’t just use it as a « because magic happens » thing
The sad thing is I wonder if they even knew or if they literally just went "lol heart locket with rainbows the girls will love this" because of how everything else is, I feel it's the latter even though I really want to believe it's a reference/call back.

Fun fact: The creators got so lazy that they didn't even translate Opaline's Song from the first Episode of chapter 6 into german😂😒
I've seen comment that says they didn't translate any songs in Polish dub, until suddenly the last chapter. I didn't watch it, because I prefer my ponies in English, with original voices. But why would you even do that? If you're too lazy to translate songs for the most part, at least stick to it. xD
I don't think it's laziness on the part of the creators, because they are not responsible for translating the series to other languages. People working on Polish and German dub probably didn't get enough time or budget to do a decent dubbing.
Also, I'm from Poland and I don't think g5 is popular here (g5 toys don't sell at all and usually go on huge discounts after a while) so maybe translating the songs wasn't profitable because the series wasn't much of a success anyway.
@@najpotenicewolf934All MYM songs were translated to polish (At least up to chapter 5). TYT songs were only translated if they were sang by characters, while the one in the background just got subtitles.
Lmao, same in french. Actually, none of the songs are translated in this chapter, and every time the character are about to sing, they felt the need to make the character announce « im going to sing in english now! ». I find it kind of weird, they could have just sang without announcing they were switching language. I always find it weird when a real life language is directly mentioned in a fantasy world show.
@@aaazzz8324 I just checked some clips for the Polish dub of g5 and the characters in this version also say something like "sing in English!" before they sing. If I had to guess, they did it so that the children wouldn't be confused as to why they can't understand what the characters sing.

The reason the continuity of the G5 is screwed is because Hasbro, in all their infinite wisdom, not only sold the broadcasting rights to seasons 5-9 to Discovery, but also the rights to a ton of elements and characters to G4 and still don't have them back. Which is why all of the G4 connections to G5 don't make a helluva lotta sense.
Hasbro is a plague on creative media at this point

Yes!! I thought Allura was gonna be a one time episode villain, but she ended up being once again, a whole season villain. Allura just had a vibe of being a one time villain, maybe disappear and then be back 3 seasons later? Just like what g4 does. But Allura just didn't feel like a whole season villain don't you think? She just felt plain.
Fun Fact: the Heart necklace around Sunny’s neck is the Rainbow of Light locket from G1 the OG Element of Harmony what the hell….?❤

When Misty was "transported" by a mysterious fog from the inside of the Wishing Tree of Briddlewood [the "Night Market" of the Breezies] to an open area with Breezie Homes, she was in the G1 Pony World (alternate reality).
The Breezie that gifted the Heart Locket with the Rainbow of Light came from that same world.
This chapter if what finally got me to scream “OKAY THATS IT! IM MAKING A REWRITE OF THIS THING!”
Now the process of rewriting this story and character redesigns has started lol

Like seriously everyone wanting to rewrite this series is so damn lazy.
A derivative work isn’t going to save the series and will just be forgotten in the long run. There is also the risk of Hasbro sending a cease and desist order to that project.

Make something new that will compete with the MLP franchise as a whole.
Because this whole time I was doing just that!

IDK. The reason Opaline works for me is that there are so many people like her in real life. She builds herself uo to be important and powerful but she's really not all that and seeing past that illusion is a huge process for a lot of people.
G4 already did that with Chrysalis when the hive finally decided to stand up to her and choose their own path; Opaline did have a unique thing going with the abusive relationship with Misty which was good, but Opaline herself was ruined due to TYT toning down this relationship to implying they actually do work together so there's no consistency

Unfortunately, the writing team had intended for Opaline to be this end-all be-all Series Antagonist: all without understanding the fundamentals of what makes a Series Antagonist in the first place. They failed to try setting up any sort of emotional connection or weight to the character whenever we see her on-screen, let alone have her serve as a drive for Sunny to defeat because of how personal it is for her. If the story had went that Opaline had killed Argyle; than it'd be motivation enough for Sunny to want to go and fight her to avenge her father.

Opaline was never a villain to sunny, and Sunny is not Twilight Sparkle. If anything, Misty is following in hoofsteps of Twilight more than sunny is. Twilight was kind of an irredeemably mean pony at the start of MLP and grew to become the princess of friendship. Misty might look like she has more similarness to Sunset or Starlight, but both of them had good reasons for being the way they were, Twilight and Misty just didn't have exposure to stuff. Sunny doesn't have a reason to be the be all end all main character. I enjoy that they don't do this with her because she doesn't need to be and it'd destroy what g5 is if she was. If you need an emotional connection to be based on violence to cause drama between characters. ... you might be watching the wrong show for you.
When I first saw the "dragons" on the MLP subreddit, I thought they were pony/dragon hybrids, not pure dragons. They literally look EXACTLY like some pony/dragon hybrid OCs I have seen.

I'm afraid that what kills the show for me as a Grown adult is the Animations. I have worked on film sets (as a sound engineer). I have worked on animated projects and always found the process cool. But as someone who enjoyed G4 up until Series 5, I quickly understood just how childish and "low budget" a CGI remake can be.
The problem here is the demographic, the show isn't trying to pander to us Bronies or even parents. Its a show for young children that has no problem spelling it out at every turn. The animation is the worst part because these creatures all have rapid movements , weightless flying and battles that feel like the characters are trying to not hit each other.
Unlike what I just said, this technique can work for TV shows. Take "Thunderbirds Are Go" From 2015. A remke of a beloved 1965 TV show that managed to be somewhat respectful to the source material (I don't like Thunderbirds 2015 but that's just me). Thunderbirds however was boosted not just by the fact that the characters and craft are CGI in a scale model world, but the action is directed in a way that allows the characters to "look" like they have weight.
G4 had the privilege of being 2D with characters that were kind and caring, not sounding too weird when they spoke. I for one, found that the characters in G4 spoke like us. They were like us. Not children, not fools and the villains were actually characters that could spout out one liners without any real problems. G4 has its problems too, but nothing as sould crushing as G5 (Shame because I enjoyed the Movie).
Just move on from MLP. Currently it is a worthless franchise. Stop supporting it. Stop supporting Hasbro. Can some people do it? Gosh! I don't even care about MLP G5. For me Hasbro can keep to ruin its IP, but I'm sorry for Lauren Faust. She knew how to draw a dragon. Instead those animators of this animated series can't even draw dragons with a good design. Talk about incompetence. That's it.

I don't think I'll ever let go of the fandom either, but I know full well that I cannot continue to watch this show in a critical light because of how it treats the show as kids, not a family show.

I think the ideal idea would be to make a spinoff about some state on another continent, in which there is discord, racism, all that, but one day the main character (or main characters) learns about Equestria, about how great the M6 have set up life there. From this moment on, the main characters of the new show would try to do the same in their country, devoured by contradictions and conflicts. Something like the River Union from Equestria at war, but more peaceful so that everything would be family friendly.

The movie was so good I remember how much that movie sparked new life into the fandom that we hadn't seen since the mid 2010s and when G4 was ending
But man as the show went on (Batch releases didn't help) more and more just stop caring, heck TYT no one cares about that show anymore when a new episode releases especially since the new episodes spoiled a ton of Chapter 6

there was actually a scene in Secrets of Starlight that shocked me quite a bit, you have to pay attention, but before Allura enters the portal to Equestria, there's a sort of telepathic connection between Allura and possibly another snow leopard, who Allura says is her 'brother'. This 'brother' says to Allura "you fool! you had the star the whole time!" and Allura says back aloud "don't worry, brother. I'll get it back". I think this time round we may be facing two villians instead of one.

It’s a big F U to all the previous MLP fans. Which is a shame because they could have done so much more with the character building and storyline. It’s obviously targeted to a younger audience my six year old daughter binge watched the whole series without any complaints and as I was watching it with her it just felt very meh and boring compared to everything else on Netflix.
Congrats on making this far. Like really. I don’t think most could. So, what are you gonna do after this? I would go back to the old G4 episodes myself.

Sorry, but I disagree with two things you said in this comment:
1) Spike wasn't out of character. He may older and quite rusty now, but he's shown to still have that playful and determined personality he had in G4.
2) The animation didn't look worse; it actually looked a little better than it did in Chapters 4 and 5. In fact, I noticed in a few closeup shots that there great details of the ponies coats.

chapter 1 is almost unwatchable with how jerky and plastic it is versus chapter 6. I think that a lot of people are forgetting that MLP g4 season one kinda... looked really bad versus it's later seasons. The reason the animation was praised in 2010/2011 is because it was still *better* than most shows at the time. hindsight or watching it later makes g4 and g5's animation progression, honestly, in favor of g5. they learned much quicker.

When i first saw the clips of dragons with hair flying around attacking the lighthouse i thought opaline some how got magic to turn ponies into dragons. The fact that they just have hair now is really baffling to me

I really thought they were going to say Izzy *was* an auroricorn too in that special because it really seemed to be setting up that way. Like how familiar she kept saying it was and the fact, oh yeah, HER HORN LITERALLY TURNED INTO THE CRYSTAL HORN THEY ALL HAVE AND MISTY’s DIDNT??? Only for this not to happen and not only that, none of the others noticed her horn complete with the little piece ONLY the auroricorns have??? NO ONE?? 😭 I still feel like this has to be some set up for later, especially since Izzy is obsessed with luminescence, the only similar thing is the way the auroricorns talk about their regional magic. It HAS to be intentional but knowing how bad G5 is doing and the writing is… how it is. It would surprise me none if that never gets mentioned again even if the series does continue

I was wondering why Izzy’s horn was crystal and not Misty’s. Misty’s horn has always looked a bit different than other unicorns ones, so i thought maybe thats why her horn did transform into crystal. I wonder why her horn looks different, but i guess there’s not really a particular reason, maybe they just have different look because the designer thought it would be nice to offer more “variety” in the looks of each pony’s.

what i feel is the worst part is the existence of continuity aka existence of twilight and spike and other alicorns. then the lack of continuity of anyone who doesn't have wings can't walk on the clouds, where is ember, how did dragons get cutie marks, and what is going on.
I dropped the series aftter Sparky was "kidnapped" and hidden in the basement of the brighthouse. And the actual, no joke, solution the gang came up with to find him was to sing in the town square and follow his voice when he would sing back to them. And somehow the laws of physics ceases to exist and this absolutely worked!
And, yeah, that broke me.
Everyting else I've learned via osmosis just went to show that this gen was beyong saving, and the writers absolutely did not care. :T

If I were to rewrite this show I’d make the first season about the ponies learning how to use their powers and building back trust and friendship between the species of ponies meanwhile after each breakthrough episode we get a peek at Opaline observing and making plans (it really bothered me how they all adapted to their magic so quickly and immediately trusted each other after one episode. Also I think Opaline would have been gathering research and all before attacking because they make it clear that so much has changed ).
Then season two we learn more about Opalines past well they start their plan to take over… that’s all I got but that’s how I expected the show to start and wished it’s what we got

I enjoy the show for the moment because from the first chapter I already knew all the connections that will be established with FiM will make no sense, so I'm acting like I've never seen FiM series before so it helps and doesn't disturbed the experience to appreciate all the others aspects of the show.
We clearly see the struggle the direction of G5 took because they want the continuity to work for the fans without taking the FiM universe seriously and do whatever they like.
G5 is a bad show because they don't know what they're doing and can't choose:
- If you want to continue in the FiM universe, do it properly
or
- Create a new show with a completly new universe, that's it
Sadly the writing doesn't respect his own show, the major issue is the characters being lost on their actions in so many situations, I feel like it’s getting better overall over the time but it will never fix the show and it’s impossible to go back again
Honestly I think chapter 6 was the best one in the whole series. The plot moved forward and that’s a big accomplishment for this show. Everything was very rushed but it was by far the best we’ve seen from make your mark. Although Spike is still a punching bag and Allurah was an unneeded ( and extremely ugly ) villain

Fair yes, despite how much a mess this chapter was, given how short it was, every episode actually was coherently tied together in a single story compared to the previous ones in which nothing has any weight
The locket with the rainbow is actually a call back to G1 MLP. It was called the Rainbow of Light. There was also one of Darkness. The rainbow of light was kept in a locket that Meagan (the blonde headed human girl) wore around her neck most of the time.
Fusterclucks like this are why I hate hate HATED the decision to attach G5 to G4, even back when G5 was just one decent film. I was so fascinated by the leaked emails that showed a potential reimagining of ponies with a brand new setting entirely... but instead we got G4: The Revengeance - This Time It's Awful. Such a waste...
Given Make Your Marks unknown future (aka if it will return for more episodes) it's really hilarious how they used the potential final outing to set up a brand new villain only for them to possibly never conclude that storyline.
Like sure Allura will still appear in Tell Your Tale but i really doubt they will actually progess the story.
From the few TYT episodes it might be possible they'll conclude it there or they might do an Avatar and have each season be a book with "Chapters" aka more batch releases which is shown to not be successful as evidence by Jojo part 6
Spike’s voice is just not it, and the dragon designs are kinda lame. And even for a kid show they could have cared for it a lot more than this. G5 I’ve found it not worth rewatching. Meanwhile Bluey is a classic.

G5 could have taken such a different approach like the school of magic??? Or even the next generation of ponies??? Twilights heir? The children of the mane six? Rarity’s fashion industry??? Idk there are so many different options that could have been done and honestly this doesn’t even seem like MLP it’s like a knock off that tried to be MLP but copyright infringement. i have a theory that the dragons from the isle of scaly are a different breed of dragons, maybe the og dragon island is still there, somewhere else. Maybe the isle of scaly was found by equestria post season 9. Maybe spike was sent there to protect the new dragon land because they are more magical. It makes kinda sense seeing how different spike's design is from the rest of the dragons. That could explain a few things.
Opaline and Starlight may share some similarities by stealing cutie marks but at least their defeats were different and Opaline wasn’t redeemed like 5/10 (Not including Grogar/Discord) of major G4 season premiere/finale and movie villains have been redeemed and hell I’ll even add Garble, Neighsay, Ahuizotl and Cabelleron because their redemptions were so bad….
Ahuizotl's COULD have worked if he wasn't presented as an evil tyrant from his first appearance onward. No redeeming qualities, ever, until season 9.
Honestly, Neighsay's worked. It was a good example of "Enemy of my enemy" and he learned to get over his prejudice and change.
Seasons 8 and 9 had a fair amount of bad character writing / character undevelopment in general. There was plenty of good episodes but a good amount of bad ones.

@@Justin-0427 overall starting with her debut in s5 (the finale added more light to her actions in the premiere) , and she has one of the strongest character developments in the series, paired with probably the best execution of a villain reformation (and yes this includes her backstory that most people don't understand the full depth of)

Let's look at the bright side: while being rushed and full of continuity errors that not even the: "But it's made for kiiids! So we can make it shitty even if it's full of kids product that are good!" can save, the plot finally moved forward, the episodes were coherent and tied togheter and Opaline got her conclusion, thou I would have wrote something more... epic let's say.
Dislike her or not, Opaline was a major part of this serie and had really good moments, I think she deserved something incredible for her defeat like other major villains... I think I'm gonna write something about her getting a better defeat scene, especially after seeing how the authors treated her and made her especially stupid.
I'm just sad they got so lazy (high budget or not, you can still make different models or try to make them look something more then a bunch of twins) that the dragons are literally copy and paste of the same model with no unique trait and to symbolize their "unique magic" they just lazily put cutiemarks on them and copied the ponies instead of doing something original, the world building has always been a big part of MLP after all, with all its creatures and how different they were and now it's terrible. BUT this gives us something to theorize about: if dragons started having cutiemarks, it means their new generations got something from ponies (beside the lazyness in the desings and the lack of interest and care for this project to actually make something good), so, who was the first dragon that started banging a pony and created those?
Think about it: they went from different and strange-looking bipedal lizards to quadrupedal dragons with hair-like crests (much like ponies' manes) and they have cutiemarks? We need the fandom to write how the first dragon-pony came to be!😂
And to be honest... I'm interested in Allurah.
It's the first time we see a creature like her in MLP and while I honestly lost faith in the writers after they made scaled ponies and called those "dragons", I want to hope that they can still create something new and unique with this winged snow leopard and her powers how she came to be and what kind of villains she'll turn out to be.
I have 1 problem: in the roots of all evil part 1, they understand that Opaline got to Maretime Bay through the tree, gather all the ponies around the tree to protect them, then realize that Opaline could arrive again through the tree, but now it's too late

In my opinion, the quality of graphics and designs dropped even further in the MLP era. I remember how people were outraged by the designs of older MLPs.Spike the dragon looked so weird or twilight she had a weird design too I think the people behind the projects simply left them
the designs are genuinely so ugly here. opaline, the dragons, the snow leopard I can't be bothered to remember... all hideous. a lot of it is probably for stupid marketing, too. the fans, new and old, really deserved better than this abomination of a story with more plot holes than swiss cheese.
Yeah. Many 3d shows and reboots nowadays have bad writing. I have experience. (Especially with Morphle Disney adaptation. Morphle before the 3d era was solid! The japanese dub is pretty good)

Indeed. Coming from someone who does fan fiction for MLP, watching MYM made me realize just how well I wrote many things. Like every time I watched Opaline and Misty, I couldn’t help but compare it to how I wrote Chrysalis and her successor. Much like Opaline and Misty, the successor eventually leaves Chrysalis after realizing friendship is better, but unlike Misty, the successor had a much more emotional reaction after leaving her, despite being in a more supportive environment now, because the successor looked up to Chrysalis and was very close to her. And even Chrysalis had some tough feelings after she left her, feeling like that one spark of happiness that her daughter gave her was now gone. Meanwhile, Opaline is just straight up mean to Misty all the time, and there was no emotion over Misty leaving her because of that. I just wish they put more into their relationship to make it more powerful.
All the dragons look like they came out of the Barbie movies, those old ones in 3D. Seriously, Spyro made better models than these and I'm not talking about the remake.
To me the best kind of villain is the kind of villain who just *IS* a threat. They dont need a song or fanfare, their mere presence and ideology alone are enough of a indication, intimidating, but not unreasonable.
And in opals defense, a unredeemable villain isnt bad writting, if anything it often serves to make them even MORE of a threat in many cases!
That being said, Opal absolutely turned me off, I do not like her.
As a huge dragon fan, I adored the designs of them in G4 because of how unique they all were to eachother.

I have this conspiracy theory that G5 was so bad in an attempt for hasbro to wash its hands of bronies and all the negative connotations attached to that.
I fully believe the writers actually wanted to make something decent, but I feel like higher up wanted this. G5 heavily reminds me of other kids cartoons that sucks for adults, but children seem to like it.

It feels like this show is the purest form of missing the point on purpose. Lauren Faust lit a fire under Hasbro's flank and showed them that these otherwise casual stereotypically girly shows can be so much more than what they so often made them. Heck, even Gen 1 had more going for it than initially seemed at first! Gen 1!! The grandma of this whole franchise!
Its like Hasbro went out of their way to forget the lessons of the old generation, and deliberately ignore what worked, out of what, spite? To dissociate with the Bronies that have so "plagued" their series for all these years? Is it just incompetence?? What the heck happened here???
Honestly, I would love to see you review this series and rip it apart for as long as it keeps running, Star, but I understand that you're done with it. It will be a genuine shame to lose THE premiere review channel for this dumpster fire, but I respect your wishes. I just...can't believe that the creators ruined something so good.
Ultimately, I don't mean to make it sound like a huge catastrophe, and fundamentally, we aren't the target audience, but...can they at least treat those little girls they market to with some care and respect? You know, respect their intelligence instead of creating this out of touch corporate nonsense??
