  • In this episode we travel from Polentswa on the Botswana side of the Kgalagadi Transfrontier Park all the way down to Rooiputs and then Twee-Rivieren.
We have incredible sightings of lions and other animals such as a black-backed jackal hunting, catching and eating a dove.

Nice how you show your camera settings👌. May I ask who the Troopy friend was? Wondering if they are on our Troopys in Africa group.

      Thanks!
The Troopy was Rinus. He is from the Netherlands but travels down to SA quite often.
On a side note, I’m pretty sure I’ve seen your Troopy in the Tokai area? 😄

Great videos Matt. I am travelling from the UK for my annual visit to the Kgalagadi, absolutely love the place!
I am picking up a hired Fortuner and will be using a Gimpro door mount, for the first time. Did you have any issue with the fit?

      Thanks David!
The fit is a little bit finicky on the Fortuner. If you try mount it straight (perfectly horizontal) on either side of the door it doesn't really fit. The left hand side clamp should be straight and the right hand side clamp should be angled upwards and fit on the the door where it comes down at an angle from the window. Then it fits perfectly. Just make sure you adjust it for this angle. There are so many adjustments on the Gimpro and once you figure them all out, you can get a nice snug fit. I learnt the hard way and got a chip out the paint.
Also, importantly, the Gimpro comes with a second loose clamp like fitting. Put this under the left hand side clamp. With all the corrigations, if this clamp isn't fitted, I found that it moved after a while and I even had to restick the leather on to the clamps because it came off. With this on, it stops the Gimpro from moving.
Hope this helps! Reach out if you have any other questions.

Hi Matt. Thanks for the reply, that's really useful. I would rather know the fit is not 100% and be prepared for that.
I am hoping to get the shot with the Jackal taking the Sandgrouse, I have been told Cubitje Quap is the waterhole for that?

I've heard of but never seen the Jackal at Cubitje Quap who catches the doves and grouse. The female at Polentswa is always there and it's almost as if she puts on a show. When you arrive she starts circling and goes for the birds. We saw her 3/4 times on the last trip. You will also find the Lanner falcons here who catch the Queleas. In October last year and in April this year we had the two male lions at this waterhole. It's by far my favourite in the park so I'd really recommend it!

@@MattGeri Matt that is great info, I am staying at Nossob for a few days so will certainly try at Polentswa. I've been lucky with Lanners at a few waterholes. On a couple of occasions, I've also seen Black Headed Herons catching Quelea at a waterhole on the Upper Dune Road. Thanks again.

Nice job, Matt. Some really beautiful shots there. I too will be travelling from the UK, and I keep thinking I need to get a GimPro. I've tried all sorts from vehicles, but nothing has really worked so far
