- Every hour or so from about 02:00 in the morning we could hear him calling to his mates, warning others of his presence, generally causing fear and anxiety to all along his path, and gradually getting closer to our tent. Eventually he popped in for visit, and we lost weight instantly.
If you camp in lion territory and get attacked, it is not the lions fault.

I agree! I just returned from a wild mobile camping safari in Botswana. Heard lions around every night, and one night a lion came in our camp. That's the risk I took, but definitely worth it for the incredible experience.
I think all these guys had issue with constipation and this kind of camping was recommended by the doctor to resolve the issue.

I've heard it and it's meh. When you hear it from the distance it maybe startling as you don't know what that sound is, but it sounds anything but a big dangerous cat.

If you have to camp in there territory use an electric fence around your tent site. They have good solar power ones. It may save your life.

Yes, the lion could be deadly but there is some risk if you are going to enjoy the things in life that are beyond the norm - those special moments that you will never forget. If you ever have the privilege of seeing this guy's breath in the cool of morning with every fiber of his body heaving as he bellows out his call against a Kalahari sunrise - eisch!! I knew exactly how that feel, I did camping in Africa but no lions came close. It was here in North America I had a bear woke me up in the middle of the night, feel like every hair on my body was stand up I thought that would be my last day in this world. Once outside got quiet a little bit I quickly ran to the canoe in the dark and leave every other things behind.
I've been in the exact same situation with a squirrel. I know it's scary but the trick is to remain calm

Extremely rare that a lion will enter a tent if it's closed. I just returned from a mobile camping safari in Botswana. My guide who's very experienced, said the lion sees the tent as a large object, like a safari vehicle, not something that poses a threat. Felt totally safe inside my tent even with wildlife around.

Its fine I lived in a tent in the Kruger park as long as your tent is not see throw when your lights are on inside..!! We even slept outside some Knight but we had rifle's though not intended to use them but they do give u more convinced and the animals pick up on it..!!

The lion was at night close to the tent , and then came back on daytime to explore the area and the tent . You can see that he was very curious wat inside the tent . It is possible that he returns again because he smell people inside the tent . . It is very scary !

@The Zen Show we have tigers in India and yes they will kill and eat you. You have 0.1 % chance to survive against a lion but with a tiger it's below 0 lol.
Had it in Tanzania once back in 2001, was on an organised camping safari & twice in the night they were right outside my tent!

Lots of Americans, including me, backpack and camp where there are Black and Grizzly bears and Mountain Lions. We carry bear spray and some carry guns. Yes there is some risk, but I consider the drive to the trailhead the most dangerous part of the trip.

I always use yellow parachute cord for my guy lines, or at least hang strips of aluminum foil from regular lines. That way African Lions won't trip over them in low light conditions. At least I've never had it happen.
