    This is HEAVEN, forget the eating, I am talking about the prep! smell of wood smoke, that beautiful potjie pot and can one be any closer to nature! This is what we have been missing! enough of video games, going out to expensive restaurants to eat, this is it!

    Awesome! I truly enjoy watching the cooking process! The cast iron and hardwood fire make an unbeatable combination! The dog makes the video!

    Looks absolutely fantastic right down to the rustic preparation like using an ax in the place of a knife and starting the fire with char-cloth as you go from a spark to a flame - priceless. I do not know if you would agree but for me cooking in "The Outdoor Kitchen" makes food taste a couple of notches better. You need to know what you do though and you do. Great post. Is this in SA please? 💖

      Thank you. I’m glad you enjoyed it. Yes for me the outdoor cooking tastes so much better with the added wood smoke flavor. As for your question about it being in SA, I don’t know what that means. Sorry. If you can explain it to me I would be happy to answer. Thanks again.

      @@odelloutdoors3424 Well that is more my fault than yours and sorry bout that. SA is for South Africa. I was asking because you got the traditional South African name for the cooking vessel as well namely - "Potjie". Many just call it a cast iron pot.

      Nothing real special about cooking with them. I would just caution buying too big of one and with all cast iron be careful changing the temperature too quickly. For example cooking out in the Winter months can be challenging.

    What size potjie is in this vid? How many pounds was the chicken? I'm trying to figure out what size pot to get because I'm wanting to roast a chicken over the campfire. The chicken I've got is 10 lbs. It's like a mini turkey! Approx how long did this chicken roast? Thanks!

    • @odelloutdoors3424
      @odelloutdoors3424  6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Hi. Thanks for the questions. My Potjie is a size 3 which is between 8 and 9 quarts. That’s a good size pot to serve at least 4 people. The chicken in the video was probably 2-3 Lbs I would say and doesn’t take long to cook in that style pot because the steam being generated inside kind of circulates around. I’d say around 2 hours if I had to guess. That was a few years back. Hope that helps.
