as a Trini that's married to a Guyanese family I can say you saved me for Christmas since her family loves my cooking and asked me to do the honor and make them pepperpot this year! Happy holidays to you!
I've been watching your videos for years and someone always have something negative to say so I'm saying this thank you for taking your time out and putting yourself and your recipes out it helps many ppl it helps me for those who it don't help and they tend to know better where's their channel their cookbook or whatever I've come to learn that it doesn't matter where you're from you can live right next door to someone and the recipe will be different it will never be the same there is no mandate that things have to be cooked this way or that way for it to be 100 % traditional I have family in Guyana Puerto Rico and all over the West Indies and depending on where your from in what village over the bridge near the lake past the damn bush it's the same damn thing ppl will cook the same dish and have a different recipe before anyone opens their mouth they really need to research and see how every island is connected who settled here and there at the same damn time what was the influence on food stop being ignorant if you don't like Chris way don't watch
All you wanna-be chefs out there....THE FIRST THING HE SAYS..."This is my version of...." Jeez!!! If you weren't so nosy, you wouldn't be all on his channel! Obviously, you're curious as to how he cooks! Why don't you get your OWN channel, cook YOUR way and stop criticizing this Brotha style! Chris...you bring back memories of my moms friends that was from the Caribbean...she cooked all that stuff, but I was too young to appreciate it! My palate wasn't mature enough, plus I didn't grow up eating that way! Now, I can't get enough of it! When I cook along with your video....people come up to my door and ask what am I cooking! Everybody want a plate! Thank you Bro for teaching this gal how to cook food that she loves!!!
This is hilarious. I don't care about the recipe, but the comments!!!! OMG (lol)..........Chris does things his way. He doesn't care about authenticity. He's the Mr. Magoo of the cooking world. Just enjoy the food his way folks...........
Im happy to see you making this. Now i can do this for my guyanese husband and he can stop running by his parents to get this done. Thank you Chris. I'll try this recipe for the season.
OMG! Thank you! I have been looking for a pepperpot recipe for the longest. My grandmother was Guyanese and would make this every Thanksgiving and Christmas dinner. "Mama," my grandmother was old school keeping all her recipes in her head, never writing them down. When she passed away she took her recipes with her. I'm going to try my best to make this, thanks again, love your recipes on youtube. GOD bless and be safe.
I cook Pepper Pot ever Christmas for my Guyanese husband with bread. You must have fresh bread! I usually have my sister-in-law send me REAL cassareep for a Caribbean store in New York, but this year she got it shipped from Guyana. I usually put ox tails, beef, pig tails and pig feet in mine. I also add the orange peel, cloves, a little more cassareep and less peppers so that I can eat it. Great Job! It just how my mother-in-law taught me!
pig tails, ox tails, pig feet? sounds like the REAL deal there. YUM! Only other thing - people in the interior - Amerindians - often through in a little fish now and again, although most old people on the coast, in town, use the oxtails, pig tails, pig "trotters". But then, people in the interior can keep this pot boiling all year and just throw in whatever they happen to catch that day. Just curious - wondering if the cricket club still got their pot boiling?
Chris, I have been waiting for this recipe for over a year. My boyfriend is Guyanese and he will love this! I'm definitely going to make some for his birthday! THANK YOU!!!
caribbeanpot...Chris, i found some Casreep in Chicago last weekend and I was beside myself. I intend to use it this weekend for my July 4th cookout to make my fried rice. Thanks to one of your viewers who commented on one of your videos that she uses that for coloring her friend rice. Yes sir.....thank you again!!
Mr Chris hi there here is wishing you the best in health and happiness 2 things we cannot buy .just viewing your PEPPERPOT SOUP RECIPE LIKE YOUR PRESENTATION SIMPLE TO FOLLOW THANK YOU KIND REGARDS BLESSINGS & GOOD HEALTH 🤗🍝🍜💘
Season's Greetings!! Oh goodness! My mouth is watering. This brings back memories of growing up in my Guyanese household where Pepperpot was a staple during the holidays. I only wish my mother could be here now to cook a pot of it. I will try your recipe for sure Chris, but I do love the cloves in there. Thank you so much for sharing!
This looks killer man... I've done a jamaican pepper pot that I got the recipe for from a jamaican friend, but this guyanese version looks equally stellar.
Chris I live in Canada and my mom makes her own casreep. A tradition passed on from her great grandmother. I hope to oneday show you how we make it with my mom. Let me know when your in Canada :)
Hey Chris! Your recipe is good. Although I'm not Guyanese, I've had the pleasure of eating Pepperpot when I was a kid back in NYC. I cooked it the way you make it and it taste just like when I was a kid. One of my all time favorite dishes.
Merry Xmas to you and your family sir thanks for sharing having a great time here in my home land, I will definitely try the goat meat I never use it before.
This is lovely. Am trying this out this weekend! Think am going to pressure the meat a little tho so I don't have to wait like three hours...impatient for my Guyanese pepperpot!
Looks so good! I make mine with oxtail and pork and cook it in the slow cooker so while its cooking I have lots of time to make bread to go with it. We have Pepperpot on Christmas Eve for dinner and then on Christmas morning for breakfast. The entire family looks forward to it!
Chris, that looks beautiful, and rich with that deep color. I have used an occasional recipe (my take on it) of yours. I might have to prepare this one. It looks simple and delicious!
Love it but am vegetarian and will try this recipe but use meatless would you recommend using less water due to am using meatless as in meat substitute. Txs
"that's not real pepperpot". Does it really matter? He even said that his take on pepperpot may be different. And everyone has their own style.I'm married into a Guyanese family and from day one I've had many of their well know dishes prepared in different ways. Not everyone likes beef, some prefer goat. My cousin (by marriage) is Ameridian and she makes it with fish. There's no right or wrong way especially when the country has a mixture of different nationalities and blended culture. Keep up to good work!
Alexis P yes like you said the amerindians uses fish for the pepper pot. Also their pepper pot isn't black it is mostly off white or cream in colour and they use large meaty fish as meat with cassava bread instead of regular store brought or homemade bread
Pepperpot is an Amerindian recipe. Guyanese don’t just use Oxtail and beef to make pepperpot. You can use whatever meat you want. Some people use Goat, beef Oxtail, cow heel, pork etc.
I will try this dish. Do I really have to use sugar? As I do not use sugar at all it's not in my kitchen.I reside in Los Angeles CA. Where can can I purchase the cassareep from?
Looks great, will defo try. I can't get them peppers, can I used habanero instead? Also could this be done in a slow cooker? Many thanks, Merry Christmas
My in-laws make this and I love it however, to get Cassareep in Australia is horrible! well basically it has to be imported. Do you have a recipe to make it from scratch?
So if I can't find the yucca reduction, can I substitute blackstrap molasses? Seems like this is a "sweet" dish, am I right? The flavors sound good. I also don't have much access to goat (I love it, but just can't find it anywhere) so can I use pork or mutton?
Chris I've been dying to buy some wiri wiri peppers up here, but can't seem to find any, i'm in the MI area, and minutes from the border, where should I find them?
I too have had trouble finding them (and there really is no substitute for that lovely fragrance). Try looking for them by this other name. I found them on this website: www.chillisgalore.co.uk/pages/chilli_varieties.html - but they call it Coffee Bean (Capsicum chinense). From the description I think they may be what I'm/we're looking for.
Hi Chris. Love your videos. Is cassareep the same as burnt sugar? I've heard of it but I've never seemingly stores and I live in a Caribbean dense neighborhood in NYC. We have everything. Lol. Thanks in advanced.

Is it ever recommended to cook it in a Pressure Cooker vs letting it simmer cook over the 3-4 hours?
Sound like you get your pepperpot recipe right, next time you making trying adding some meaty part like beef and pork.
Ardent Dfender using a pressure cooker is better.
Asheska Glenrick Thanks for the suggestion.

Guyana is not an island.
Who said Guyana is an island? What I know pepperpot is Guyana national dish.

can you make the pepper pot with just beef stew and ox-tail ?
Yes that what guyanese traditionally make pepper pot with beef and ox-tail we don't use no other meat
Pepperpot is an Amerindian recipe. Guyanese don’t just use Oxtail and beef to make pepperpot. You can use whatever meat you want. Some people use Goat, beef Oxtail, cow heel, pork etc.
Could you use chicken also?
Can you use black strap molasses in place of the brown syrup ingredient he used (Dnt know if I can find that near me).
It may first time making pepper pot wish me good luck
Thank you so much. I love your videos. Please show more!!!
This is a classic. I love it

caribbeanpot
Okay perfect! Thanks Chris!
Just one question here; Sorry if it sounds stupid but is cassareep safe to eat?...
Being Trini I never heard of Cassareep before. I must try this never had pepper pot before.
It's amazing! My husband is Guyanese and my MIL puts her foot in it every time lol
Mrs. J My boyfriend is Guyanese too. And I normally don't eat beef, but she made some for Christmas. Whoo! How could I say no? Lol
It’s Guyanese maybe that’s why and it’s so good you can even make Casareep chicken and pork so good
what if the meat is kinda of tuough before cooking it, would it be tender after 3 hours of slow cooking
i dont have Cassareep/casdrip sauce. I do have guyana chinese sauce (it have almost same ingr as d casdrip, i think). can i use this?
Guyanese here ❤️
So if I can't find the yucca reduction, can I substitute blackstrap molasses? Seems like this is a "sweet" dish, am I right? The flavors sound good. I also don't have much access to goat (I love it, but just can't find it anywhere) so can I use pork or mutton?
Cassareep only!!
+Kephirra No.
Chris I've been dying to buy some wiri wiri peppers up here, but can't seem to find any, i'm in the MI area, and minutes from the border, where should I find them?
I too have had trouble finding them (and there really is no substitute for that lovely fragrance). Try looking for them by this other name. From the description I think they may be what I'm/we're looking for.
Hmm, Pat G I will look up the scientific name and look into it
if you find out that it is wiri wiri would appreciate knowing. thx
Capsicum frutescens is the many variations of wiri wiri, I am waiting on a direct confirmation, but they are many variations of it matured Pat G
sorry, Chris--had not yet read the recipe--please forgive! You are so considerate.
thanks--
Shoshi
Very nice, meat looks real tasty.
Where are the Afro-Caribbean eateries in London? When I was a kid we ate Bajan grub it was lovely.
can u put this in a pressure pot n pressure it?
Allimoon Balgobin yes in Guyana that's how they make it in a pressure pot
U sure can ...thats how i do it ...dont have time to boil that meat so long
How many does this serve?
Does anyone know where to buy goat in Chicago? I love goat curries, goat tacos,..., but I do not know where to buy these things.
thank you for sharing!
Love it thank you 😊
Can any molasses be used or does it have to be cassareep?
It has to be cassreep
Hi Chris. Love your videos. Is cassareep the same as burnt sugar? I've heard of it but I've never seemingly stores and I live in a Caribbean dense neighborhood in NYC. We have everything. Lol. Thanks in advanced.
Jolene8 no cassareep comes from cassava
Alexis Pollydore Thanks!
