Hey Doug, thanks for this video! I am planning on buying a Macbook later this year and using Logic so this is super helpful! I would definitely be interested in seeing a video about making the backing track drums, bass, and keys.
Hi Doug, Great job with your channel, it has been a huge help getting started with my TMP. Wondered if you might be able to cover recording vocals with the TMP. I use the TMP connected via USB to my mac with Logic Pro 11. I have found that my vocal levels s are way smaller than my guitar recording. I have been able to combat this by boosting my preset volume (I made a dedicated preset for vocals on the TMP.) On the preset I'm using the studio pre, I've also tried the tube pre. I have had to add a boost at the end to get my vocals up to match the levels that I have using my old m-audio usb pre interface. Also a side note is that for now I'm using a dynamic akg mic. I don't mind having to do this boost but when I do a dual recording (channel 1 and 2 for getting the TMP preset sound with the pre and boost and then using channel 4 as a DI) my DI side is way lower. I've played with the mixer on the TMP and have all the levels up to 0dB. Any thoughts? Thanks again for all your videos they have been very helpful! I've had the TMP for a couple weeks now and it's wonderful for the guitar stuff! Just looking to simplify my at home recording and just use the TMP as an interface for Guitar Bass and Vox... just a little lacking in the Vox right now. Thanks again and keep up the good work!
Hi Michael - Excellent idea! Have you tried raising the Mic Input Gain? Click on Settings, then on I/O. Default is set to +18 dB. You can raise it as high as +60 dB if necessary. I'm guessing that raising it would also give you a higher signal for your DI track. Let me know how it works for you 👍
I think that will work! Man you really know your stuff. Just looked and saw that I was on the default settings of -18dB. I will give it a go later this weekend. I’ll let you know how it works. Thanks so much. Update: Their was able to test this out today and that did the trick! Thanks so much!
Hi Doug, great videos! I watch you all the time. Is there anyway you could do a video of the TMP connecting to an Apollo interface into Logic? Thank you in advance
I don't have an Apollo interface anymore, but I could do one that uses my Presonus interface instead. Of course I wouldn't be able to do anything about using Console tho.
Hello Doug. Thanks for all yours videos, Is it possible to record the guitar (on one track) and the vocals on another track in Logic at the same time? How should the TMP and Logic be configured? I have tried it but it records on a single stereo track. The guitar on the right side and the vocals on the right side. In another test, vocals and guitar were recorded on each of the bands. Can you make a video about it? Thank you very much!!
Hey Doug. Thanks for all the good TMP videos. They are a big help. I’m not finding a very large or effective TMP community out there yet. I’ve been recording from my TMP to Logic Pro for a couple months and I’m frustrated that the rich and nuanced sound of the guitar and preset is greatly diminished in recording. At least it sounds that way thru my headphones. I’m using the USB cable and my headphones are plugged in to my TMP with Logic Pro using TMP for input and output. I have a Scarlett 2i2 but not using it. Output mixers are turned up but the output levels are also a little weak. Recorded signal is adequate. I want to test the recording in the car and see if the richness is there. Maybe it’s an issue with the headphone signal going back thru the TMP. Any thoughts? Thx in advance. Sorry if this is wrong way to ask - not sure what’s best for a TH-cam channel.
I may have figured it out. Weeks of trying and right after asking for help…. Basically, new mic/line audio tracks were using input 1 only. Not input 1 + 2. The Details area of that New Track dialog was not showing by default but I went looking for it when I saw it in your video. When I created a new track using 1 + 2, and tested it, the recorded sound was great while the older track using input 1 was very dull sounding by comparison. Maybe my embarrassing post will help someone else. Congrats on the 5000 mark!
I have a question about monitoring the guitar through the tonemaster headphone jack when using a daw. I currently have a focusrite audio interface and I use cubase 12. All my effects are coming from Bais FX2 as a VST plugin in cubase. If I eliminate using the focusrite and Bias fx2, and only use the tonemaster as my audio interface and effects, how will that impact my monitoring inside the daw? Will I hear the same audio the daw is recording, or only what is coming from the tonemaster such as you would if not using a daw with headphones plugged in? In other words, will the volume level I hear in the headphones of myself while playing, be the same when I play back the track? With the focusrite I can switch from direct monitoring of the guitar to the daw's output. I'm hoping it works the same way with the tonemaster. Hope that makes sense. Thanks.
Wow! Hopefully someone else can chime in because I don't have a focusrite interface to test with. But if you are using the TMP as your audio interface, I'm *guessing* that you would get the same audio that your DAW is providing. Anybody???
I''m trying to record from my TMP via USB in Logic. I have followed your instructions and set up my track to input stereo 1-2. I only get an input signal into the right side of the stereo field. When I record, the audio in the track shows that it is only recording on the bottom half of the file. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
So when you add a new track in Logic, you're choosing "Audio Input: Input 1+2", right? Once you've created the new track, when you click on "USB 1/2" on the track strip on the far left, it says "Input 1-2" (USB 1/2)?
Doug, is there any advantage in using the TMP as the input device versus plugging the TMP's analog outs into an Interface (in my case, an Apollo), and using the Interface as the input device?
@@DougBsDigitalDen And how about for just jamming without recording? The reason I ask Doug is that before I purchased a TMP, I recorded my vocals and guitar by going directly into the Apollo so that I could use all the great UAD plugins that allowed me to take advantage of all the world class UAD Amps (Fender Tweed/Diezel Herbert/Friedman Buxom Betty/Fuch's Overdrive Supreme/Suhr PT-100/etc.) as well as various UAD FX plugins (Lexicon/EMT Reverbs, CE-1 Chorus, Delays, etc.) that are available in the Apollo Console (any of the aforementioned plugins can be monitored without burning them as part of the guitar track unless you want to). So if the TMP is the Interface, I would lose all the advantages of using the Console, which btw, when the UAD plugins are used within the Console, there is no discernible latency, whereas if the same UAD plugins are used on a track in LPX, there is a slight noticeable latency. That being said, I might me an old dog, but I can be taught new tricks, so I sure do appreciate how you help ALL of us Doug!
Sure, if you want to use Console and UAD plugins then you'd have to use the Apollo inputs. I used to have an Apollo but it started to fail so I retired it. I'm still able to use a dozen of the plug-ins I bought because UA has converted them to a non-proprietary format. So I can use the TMP as my input interface and my Presonus 1018C as the output interface, and I can use those UAD plug-ins in Logic Pro. For jamming purposes I have a totally separate QSC sound system. Thanks for watching!
If you record a DI track along with your processed track(s) you can re-amp and change everything. Check out this video: th-cam.com/video/kKgzDrSDsHc/w-d-xo.html
Thanks Doug for your great Videos on the TMP. 😀
Thanks!
Thanks!
You're welcome!
Many thanks and Well done! You explain things very systematically and easy to understand! I will spread the word about this channel.
Please do!
Hi Doug, great video and yes a video showing how you use the virtual instruments to make a backing track would be awesome!
Noted!
Hey Doug, thanks for this video! I am planning on buying a Macbook later this year and using Logic so this is super helpful! I would definitely be interested in seeing a video about making the backing track drums, bass, and keys.
I've added your suggestion to the list ✔
Awesome Doug ….you’ll definitely have to do the making of a backing track now my friend 😊😊😊🙏👏👏👏👏👏👍
It's been added to the list, thanks Mark!

Ho Doug
Great video as usual
I use Ableton Live with my TMP
It works flawlessly 😊
Very cool!
