  • Acura's TLX is an entry-level luxury sedan that has some stiff competition. Included in its list of frenemies are those from Europe, specifically the German part. Quietly, however, the TLX is a strong seller in spite of the pretzel-and-wurst-eating set. Find out with Kelley Blue Book's Micah Muzio how the TLX manages to keep its head up in such luxurious shark infested waters.

    I love the two screens. If you own the car, you have taken the time to know which screen is which. Most reviewers seem to think if you can figure it out in 2 seconds there is a problem. Most executives work with two, three, or four screens on their desk. Love my 4 cylinder TLX and I do have a 6 cylinder TL. TLX is more fun to drive.

    • @josephxavier453

      Nathaniel Cash Jr. Yup. I don’t understand how anyone would be unhappy with 2 screens instead of one. I also work with 2 monitors at work, I’d feel crippled with only one.

      I think most reviewers get in & out of cars everyday but don’t particularly live in the car like everyday consumers do. That’s being said, I got use to it and I actually like having dual screen and I also like that it’s touchscreen.

    While I like the TLX, I don't understand why anyone would get it in fwd. In that guise, the Accord makes MUCH more sense.... Stronger engine, optional manual transmission, better, updated infotainment and it's a bigger, more commodious car. The TLX looks best with the V6 and SH-AWD. Otherwise, just go for the Accord.

  • @PaulNaylor3

    I'm sure this is a great car, but I prefer the styling of the Accord and the simpler infotainment system on the Accord, for much less money. The Accord is a great value. If someone were in the market for an AWD luxury sedan and had $47,000 to spend, their are more appealing options available. It seems like Honda has improved but Acura's styling is not keeping pace, making the Honda a great value but the Acura not so much.

    • @GoofieNewfie
      @GoofieNewfie 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      correct. Based off of 2013 - 17 Accord. The New 18 and newer Accords are just Civics, and based off of the Civic platform. So the TLX is more Accord than the Accord is now. Still has that sweet V6, granted it needs more power in this class, and no Accord has SHAWD, but SHAWD is a excellent AWD system for winter and summer. Odd he never focuses on it much here because SHAWD is THE reason to get Acura.

    Am I the only one who was never bothered by the two screen layout? I actually like it and it feels nicely layout to me. The issue is the horribly dated infotainment system and the not user friendly jumping from screen to screen stuff that it does. Not to mention the navigation graphics are horribly old. Unforgivable for a luxury brand. Even in the new RDX they fixed the infotainment system but still have the horrible old navigation system graphics.
    I’ve always liked the look of two screens my issue is with the practicality of it.
    Also why do people hate the push button gear changer? If it was push button for a manual car then yes that’s fucking dumb. But is it really that big of a deal to push the button to go into gear for an automatic engine? Should we go back to using keys to turn on and off the car as well instead of push buttons?

    • @darrylt8502
      @darrylt8502 6 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I like the dual the screen layout as well and agree with the outdated software; it functions like it's from 2008. I like one screen dedicated to music while the other displaying other information. Guess some people feel overwhelmed when they see two screens.

    • @trip66
      @trip66 6 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I own this car and love the dual screen. Plug in my iphone and the top screen will display the carplay and I always set it for the apple map. The lower touch screen is to use the radio or to navigate cds or itunes.
      I find it hilarious that people state that its too complicated! Obviously they are fucking idiots. The new screen that are coming out are that god-awful "ipad jammed into a dashboard" look that every car had nowadays. Also, the new single screens will NOT be a touch screen. It will be navitage by button only.

    • @drivecfl
      @drivecfl 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@trip66 had two screen layout with my two Accord Coupes and never had an issue figuring it out, actually is rather simple. I think though it's a bit surprising that the Accord has the updated more common one display infotainment system now that many others have. As for the dial to navigate Android Auto that seems a little weird but I guess you can get used to that too. The question is does all of the other features of the TLX outweigh any infotainment quirks?

I’d understand if they both had been redesigned at the or near the same time.TLX will keep the V6 (turbo option?) when the new facelift happens. Acura has their eyes set on a whole new pack of contenders that The Accord will only dream of. This will be the last time the Accord and TLX will speak.

Keep your key-less entry system, the push-button transmission, the info-tainment that is so insane to use. I don't understand the hate either. I had a 2018 V6 A-Spec as a loaner car while my 03 TL was in for service. The dual info screen was weird, but nothing a few minutes of playing around with it couldn't cope with. It drove really well too. I was almost sad to give it up when my car was ready from the service center. If I had the money, I'd strongly consider buying a new TLX. Probably not the A-Spec, but certainly one with a V6.

    Honda/Acura Reliability has taken a nose dive in the past handful of years. When I got my 2011 & 2013 Acuras, they were at the top of the JD power reliabilty statistics (#4 from the top if I'm not mistaken)...These days both Honda & Acura are bellow the industry average for initial quality, and the TLX has had some questionable transmission history already....

    It is funny Genesis is already many years ahead of Acura. Think about that for a second.

      chltmdwp Agreed. Genesis has done the compact luxury sports sedan in one year better than other manufacturers have done in decades.

      Yeah it’s kinda sad. Especially as an Acura fan. The G70 and G90 are very impressive cars.

      Kia Stinger is ahead of Acura. I'd take an Accord over this confused Acura. This is coming from a former Acura owner. They are lost

    I could agree to disagree front-wheel drive if you keep the car is cheaper to repair than all-wheel or rear wheel rear wheel is King but front is not bad neither

    That is the most outdated and ugly interior of any modern luxury car... goodness grief. The Accord is way better on the inside (and out, imo). Heck, even the Civic has a nicer interior design (not materials).

      The 2018-2019 Accord is ugly. That's why total Accord sales dropped 10% for 2018 models. Never thought Honda would do that.

    Damn, that's a pretty nice looking car. Been a minute since I could say that about an Acura. Such a shame because they used to have some really great looking cars and were generally further ahead of their competition in the late 90s-early 2000s.

    I like the looks of it, but the interior is a drag. I know Acura wants consumers to perceive it as a luxury brand and wants reviewers to compare this to BMW and Mercedes, but this is more on the level of Buick and Lincoln. Even Infiniti, Volvo, and Genesis, imo, have a better shot at competing against the Germans (and Cadillac and Lexus) because of their offerings.

    All audio systems in the 10th gen accords sound horrible. At least systems in the Acura sound decent. What Honda needs is an ELS system or something more premium.
