With those guys playing and Sammy singing, even at 77 going on 78 , it will be some great music. That fact makes it great. Why not…I doubt if I could afford to go but good for them.
Seen Sammy with Montrose at the State Theater in Minneapolis. The concert consisted of Van Halen, Montrose, and Journey. I believe that tour in 1978, was when Sammy meet Van Halen. Then the following year I saw Sammy as his first solo tour open for Boston at the Met Center.
Sammy is incredible. One of the nicest guys in the business and talented as hell. Tunes down a whole step to adjust to his aging voice, and he’s good to go. Sounds killer!! Please come to Jones Beach Theater in NY next summer!! Bonus** Kenny on drums!!!
I saw the REAL VH. Diver Down and 1984. Was never at all into the Van Hagar experience. And not all that interested in seeing Satriani try to do Eddie . Like you said man IM GOOD. I’ll leave my memories alone.
I can hear the cash registers now! Cha Ching!!!! 💰 💰 Yeah if you seen the 5150 tour your set no need to be disappointed. Although I am sure they will be rocking and all are terrific musicians just not the same.
Ive loved Van Halen since their first album. They were incredible and they didnt miss a beat when they changed singers in the mid 80's. I saw them with Roth twice and the 5150 tour with Sammy. The first VH show and 5150 was 1000x better than their final show in 2015. Roth's voice was shot, they completely ignored half their catalog and the show just felt off. Wolfie on bass seemed weird and how Ed could be happy only playing songs he wrote before 1984 just didnt feel right. As the stories came out over the years Ed's addiction was obviously a problem but the brothers relationship turned out toxic to everyone around them. How they did Mike was shameful. I've lost a lot of respect for Alex too. I just finished his book and it was a real disappointment. It ends in the early 80's missing much of the bands and brothers history. I watched his interview with some LA journalist and it felt uncomfortable. Alex has this maniacal laugh that comes off at the wrong times and feels creepy. He was also using a cane so I doubt he could have joined the reunion even if he wanted to. All in all the end of VH was a tragedy with all the bickering but nobody can take away the amazing music they put out from the late 1970's until the mid 1990's, it was epic stuff.
I looked into ELO tickets.... freaking 380 dollars I couldn't believe it ... can't afford that kind of money for a ticket.think Jeff is done after this tour,,,great talk dude
There could be some interesting things. There were his original solo show stoppers, Red and Trans Am. Satriani played on both Chickenfoot albums. The first one was probably the best produced album he has done. It was done at Skywalker Ranch which is a grade above most of the best and it was really great. Soap on A Rope, maybe a couple of others. The second album was not great. I'm sure Montrose has been in the list but every cut is good, maybe try a different cut. I'll never afford to go. Maybe some vinyl will get pressed.
I have zero desire to go see Sammy play VH tunes. I watched clips from the summer tour with Jason on drums and it sounded decent but it was missing the groove the brother's had. Now they have Kenny who is too stiff IMO. Satch is a great guitar player, but, no Eddie and Alex, no VH. I'm a classic VH with Dave guy anyway. I saw them many times back in the day and honestly that band ended for me when Gary joined and they put VHIII out. When Dave left it was bad enough but Gary sealed the deal for me.
There is no replacing 80’s era Van Halen. Eddie is gone, Alex can’t play anymore and is a recluse, Dave is one of the worst singers on the planet. The only ones that can do anything decent are Sammy and Mike, so they are. Eddie and Alex made brilliant music but were not great people. They had no business sense for running the band either. Dave and Sammy were in charge of that. When drugs and alcohol became too much for them to handle they kicked Sammy out. The biggest mistake of their career. It was over after that and has been over ever since. Wolfie even said the best thing that ever happened to Mike was getting fired so he didn’t have to deal with the VH disfunction anymore. Brilliant musicians but a total mess otherwise . Now there’s word that half of Alex’s book is uncredited quotes from other people’s interviews. Clueless Can’t make it up. I don’t begrudge anyone for not wanting to see the show but for me, I’ll take this any day of the week. These guys are having a blast playing the music they love. No psycho drama.
Little mummy's boy Bonham is always bailing on tours for one reason or another - Bonham never did a hard day's work in his life. That Zeppelin trust fund has always made him a little soft in the head.. Good on Sammy for keeping Kenny.
They need to have Pete.thorn as a guest to rip.aome van Halen parts Imo.he does it best and nails. The tone the best.. Better than satch..n I'm a fan I've seen him 5 times.
Hey brother, I totally understand your point about a residency having had quite a few in Vegas. It is a much easier gig, no kidding. However, with all due respect, I wouldn’t walk across the street to watch that for free. I’m 63 and a 30 year LA vet from the strip to a couple decades of session work. There’s a point when it’s just silly. My wife and I watched this idiotic Billy Idol/Steve Steven’s vid. I haven’t laughed that hard in a minute. Satch cannot cover Ed. It’s a tired sad representation of what was a long long time ago. It’s not going to be there, it’s not going out from the downbeat. You get no credit for bringing a keyboard player that sings backup. If satch could sing and play keys it would be unnecessary. 🪓🎸🤘
Look we all know it will never be the way it was. For some they just want to go hear the songs one last time and try and relive some of their youth. I get it. I try to not be too hard on these guys getting out there. It's not easy at any age living that life.
@ Agreed, it’s harder than a coffin nail on the road. However, I saw Jerry Lee 15 years ago and I had to leave. I was embarrassed for him. I grew up on those people, esp Sam. I moved from nor cal to so cal. That was our vibe. And you brought it up, for 50$? Absolutely. For 3 grand? Hell no. I paid $7.50 to see Zeppelin at Day on the Green. In their prime. So, get that $$$ when you can, on nostalgia. Don’t forget the merch🤘🤣❤️Didn’t we play to not be this? When you mention Wayne Newton in the same paragraph as Van Halen you’re kinda saying it all.
Dude a local bank had John Val y and sold tickets. . Now another local bar that is small is charging 25 a ticket for Tom petty tribute band. I'm personal friends with the band.. I'm not paying 25 bux to sit in a cramped bar that doesn't even serve food for 25 bucks. That the same price the strand theater charges and they let you byob and sell beer. And elt you Brin your own food. Things are getting stupid.. This bar owner is in a fantasy. But I bet the tickets sell. I'll go for free as a roadie hahahaha. I know a lot of these tribute bands personally and they trust me with their instruments and technical stuff I know how their rigs get set up.
Thx Brad! I'm sure Sammy and his crew will have a great residency in Vegas.
Oh ya!

Very well said.
You made some great points. I LOVE VH, but the last few tours felt weird to me also and you summed up very well why that was.
I agree....you kind of hit the nail on the head concerning VH as a whole...
Sammy is a elderly man and wants to get it in while he is still able....Right on to the brother.
He is getting it in!
it's "rock n roll vegas" mate - I predicted this back in the 70s
Oh ya!
I can hear the Roth fanboys/sammy hater groan at this news
Lol

Kenny Aronoff tells people we have the same barber when he meets a bald person such as Joe Satriani.
Lol

Dweezil Zappa is an Eddie clone. Check out his interview with Rick Beato. It surprised the hell outta me.
@@DanielC__ Yeah he really put that stuff under a microscope....
Did you watch the VH cover gig Pete did with Mitch Malloy a few years back? Ouch. Pete did his best but Mitch, ah, no.
I believe I did

it's called "vegas throat"... it has plagued singers for years

lol

I think its kind of sad. This is NOT how I want to remember Eddie's work. They are ALL super, over the top musicians, but........🙄

They should leave it alone. Sammy can't help himself, all he has done since he's been out of VH is whine or talk about VH.
