My first concert was when I was 3 years old at Pine Knob, my dad took me to go see Sammy Hagar. My dad had long curly blonde hair, and with glasses on, looked almost identical to Sammy. My dad put me on his shoulder and walked right past the security guard and next thing you know, we are backstage with Sammy. He talked to me and my dad for 15 minutes, and told my dad that his daughter and I (who were the same age at the time) should have a play-date. Still waiting for the call Sammy! ;)
Cool Sammy! You're one of my favorite all time rock dudes!! I love your 80s solo stuff the most. Ok, well maybe some Montrose too! Ok, a few VH tunes as well. I want a ride in your Ferrari whenever you get some spare time .. thanks in advance!
True, he also made a fortune in Real Estate (building houses and apartments) when he first started to become successful as a solo artist, after Montrose. He also owned the third largest fire sprinkler company in California with 180 employees and one of the largest custom bicycle shops in L.A. Sammy knows business and was very smart with his money! THE moment The Cabo Wabo hit a bump in the road Eddie and Alex wanted out, Sammy only asked them if they wanted in as a gesture of good faith.
Sammy just seems to be the most selfless guy, a really good guy, normal, I think it would be a pleasure to sit down and have a Conversation with him, always up beat and positive, he deserves everything he has. Sammy Rocks.
Sammy, You rock! You are a decent human being that happens to be a rock star. Just read your book, in one sitting, and was surprised you spent time in my hometown, Rochester NY! Saw Chickenfoot when you guys played in Berkeley and you rocked those hills, wish it had gone on all night! Can I have a ride in your Maserati? your welcome to come and hang out and jam on my front porch!
Nope you are wrong. When asked about the state of his relationship with Ed in a recent interview, Sam said they weren't talking. When asked what he would say to him if he had the chance Sam said “Well, right now I’d say, ‘Wow. Great. I’ve seen some pictures of you recently. You look like you’re healthy and doing great, I’m really proud of you and I’d like to see you continue doing that." Maybe in your world that is "trashing" him but in mine it shows that he actually has some class.
And what Sammy does here is not trashing them. He is just commenting on what he saw. It's common sense that when two brothers run a band, those outside of the family feel like outsiders. And it has been well chronicled that this has been an issue with him. He is not the first person to point it out and he won't be the last.
I am a Die Hard Van Halen fan. I celebrated the early years with DLR & thoroughly enjoyed the years w/ Sammy. No hate either way. Life Happens....that's all there is to it. Nobody makes all the right decisions in life so you keep on Rockin' w/ the cards your dealt & the choices you make. While I am a Loyal VH fan there is NO disputing that Chickenfoot ROCKS!
For you ragging on Sammy answering the question about Van Halen; Alex, and Ed, have No trouble throwing Sammy, and Dave under the bus any time they have the opportunity. There Are two sides to every story, both have their reasons, but it's the first time I've seen Sammy tell a Very small portion of his side. Sammy is a really good guy in person, nothing like his stage personna. The two just got on each others nerves after too much time together. Neither are wrong, just different. They don't hate each other, it's more like a marriage, that just didn't work out for a lifetime. He can tell his side, and believe me, he left Allot out.
Lots of people do not know that Sammy Hager was supposed to be the original singer of Van Halen - before David Lee Roth. Record companies were looking at Van Halen but thought Dave was a poor singer. They said they would sign the band if they had a singer from Montrose named Sammy Hagar...Eddie said no...he wanted to keep his original members. Watch the interview with Bill Acoin (Kiss’ manager).
Would love to see a Circle or ChickenFoot do a tour with the current incarnation of Van Halen (DLR, Wolf, etc). Could all those egos fit back stage? Maybe do a 3 or 4 song encore with Sam and Dave on the same stage? Am I wishing for too much?
@@sykwookiee well look at what Eddie Trunk saying and his video popped up right after I posted this comment these people saying they don't want to see them but with the originals must bring them back to a good time I was a little bit young for that but I remember jump
Sammy forges a style that is of very high standard and solid as rock. EVH is a caliber of guitar player and song writer that is yet to be equaled. When Sammy joined EVH that was beautiful music because each on their own was awesome.
My Outlook on Sammy Hagar. Back in 2000 maybe 13 or 14. Sammy came to town in Columbus Ohio and he did a private show at the Nationwide Arena where the Blue Jackets play for those of you who don't know what a blue jacket is it's our NHL hockey team. Anyway, Sammy came to town to play a private gig for Miller Lite and they had contestants from all over the nation so I guess some from other countries flown in and he did a private show with Three Doors Down. Both bands were in town for the weekend and the company I work for is Cardinal transportation and we are a limo and charter bus company and we got the gig. So as a manager I made sure I was driving Sammy's band. Another driver got 3 Doors Down I think it was Sean. Anyway met Sammy at the airport private jet and yet that I found out that he was flying cuz he was checking it out possibly going to buy it. Landed I pulled the van up and outcome Sammy Hagar absolutely a lifelong dream of meeting him back in the day in the early 80s Sammy Hagar man he was it for me and that's before Van Halen. Pick them up took them to his hotel to get everything put away wait a little while pick him up in his man took him to the urina and did a sound check I got to go backstage I got to go on stage I got to go in the dressing room the entire time I was there Sammy treated me like I was just another good friend listen to his band Jam. After 3 Doors Down played which was a cool. They had the delay the opening of Sammy's band because they had to shore up the stage little better because they had special event winners and people are on stage with the band totally cool. I stood backstage and watch how he reacted with the fans and one of the stage and said go ahead walk on up on stage so I did so I was up on stage Sammy was jamming pointed me out and I got to be on stage with Sammy Hagar the best time ever. Afterwards we come running off the stage he put his hand out gave me a high-five and you said that's what it's all about right there. We were out until about 2 in the morning took him back to his hotel him and his band pick them up in the morning and took him back to the airport shook my hand greatest time ever. He is as down to earth the best person the funniest dude and the kindest man I have met that performs on stage. I've met a few. I remember people screaming down to me and the other driver outside wanting to know if Michael Anthony was there. I saw him again a couple years later with full circle and that was a hell of a night didn't get a chance to see him personally or take a chance try to say hey but it was amazing night too.
Great interview from a very all around, inspirational man. I'm fairly young (23), atleast as far as Sammy's career span goes, but I got an early introduction and Van Halen: Live Without A Net was my favorite concert for YEARS, and it's still in my top 5 favorites, which also now includes the Chickenfoot: Get Your Buzz On Live DVD. When it comes to his bands n' debates surrounding them, I can only say 1 thing: He's solid as a rock (or red rocker), always has been, and only his fans have changed.
I do not know how true it is. I have read this a few times. I read that in 2004, Sammy would not go back to VH unless Mikey was in too. VH wanted to fire Mikey in 2004, but Hagar said he wanted Mikey in, or he would not do a reunion.
I agree.....Sammy will tell you he made most of his money creating, then selling a tequila company and opening and running a bar in Mexico. He's got both the front man thing and the discipline for business thing down. That's the rarely found in Rock combination that has made him into what you correctly identify......and WOW!!! .... is that ever the best argument to make if you believe as I do.....Van Halen needs Hagar more than Hagar ever needed VanHalen.
Sammy, at first i had a hate for you because you did my Dave not good. You did well and do sing good. It was nice to see you push Van Halen as far as you did. Rock on man.
Dude!!! Sammy is the shitz all wayz has been all wayz will be. His book explains ALOT! I love Van Halen no doubt, my greatest shot is of Eddie but now I understand so much more! Sammy broought the greatest success streak they've EVER had, he's quite the biz man as well and doesn't even need to play music after selling Cabo, & still got the clubs!?! WTF! He's the FUCKING MAN!!!!
4:13 YOU LEFT CHICKENFOOT OUT, PAL. Great vid, going to listen to the ones I don't know. And just so you know, .... RollingStone said Zep sucked when they first came out.
I wish I could tell Sammy what a great job he has done. He knows who he is and he knows what he wants. He enjoys Rock for the music and the fun of the atmosphere. Sure he enjoys the money, but he has said many times he wants to try and find a way to do free shows. I just think he has his priority's straight. If you treat music like a business, you will never be as satisfied with what you put out. Music is about creativity and expressing yourself. That's why he has been successful.
I wonder how many younger fans know that Sammy sang on one of the greatest rock albums of all time, the self-titled Montrose album. Hit after hit after hit. And thanks and goodbye to Ronnie Montrose.
I really think Hagar is credible as a true rock n roll musician. Hes done it all and theres no cliche there. He's rocked everywhere. But hes got a good atttitude. That's the difference.
@leirbagpeter Yeah that read a bit weird. Maybe he meant "last time I talked to Ed face-to-face". Because it seemed like Ed was asking him abt the trquila while Sam was busy doing something else - like probably handing out the signed bottles.
Yeah, in fact Sammy's manager used Sammy's considering to join VH and leaving his label, as leverage to restructure their deal with Warner Bros, because they were getting taken to the cleaners! A lot of people didn't realize that Sammy had WAY more money then they did when he joined and had a much better record deal as well.
yah fuckn Hagar!! tell that shit like it is (Hagar aint the type to spill the beans, its just that eddie burnt that bridge to hard one time and Hagar was like "fuck this fucking guy" and I can totally respect that.
Sammy, only one man knows how to properly drink tequila, his name is Tommy Lee Jones, phone him up he'll tell ya how. I admire your enthusiasm and energy You put so much heart behind what you do You're honest dude. EVH is one of guitar gods that's for sure, but he's a bit too foxy for my liking He has this thing about singers being his brothers He always says: "David is like brother to me" then David is gone and "Sammy is like brother to me, then you're gone and "Gary is like brother to me"
He does NOT smoke, is friendly to other Rock groups and likes performing alongside other Rock experts!?

1986-1988 were the best years with those guys!
Go back and listen to Balance! The WHOLE album.
Sammy seems like a good dude! I like his positive attitude.
Great Singer and Guitarist !
Sammy Hagar seems like he is cool as can be! I would love just to sit down and listen to him jam that would rock!
Chicken foot rocks ! Yes yes jimmy page!
Right on Sam..I use the same technique for my vocals, only i use whiskey ..;)
WHISKEY!!! :-D
Why not bourbon from my great state of KY?
I am a Die Hard Van Halen fan. I celebrated the early years with DLR & thoroughly enjoyed the years w/ Sammy. No hate either way. Life Happens....that's all there is to it. Nobody makes all the right decisions in life so you keep on Rockin' w/ the cards your dealt & the choices you make. While I am a Loyal VH fan there is NO disputing that Chickenfoot ROCKS!
for me one of the best rock singers ever.range,power,tone.,pitch,phrasing.superb.oh and he writes too.
Am I wishing for too much?
gaddylh I don't know does Michael Anthony have beef with Van Halen Brothers
@@mikenuzzo3323...I would say that I would...but Mikey is one sweet guy...and Sammy's cool...DLR and Eddie would probably not let it happen...
@@sykwookiee well look at what Eddie Trunk saying and his video popped up right after I posted this comment these people saying they don't want to see them but with the originals must bring them back to a good time I was a little bit young for that but I remember jump
Great format! Young Dave was great and Sammy continues to be Great!
How's 33 ?
@@luiskern8910 34 now, but great! Still jamming to Chickenfoot, wishing they would've made more music.
Sammy is so down-to-earth, and seems so level-headed about the VH thing.
OMG SAMMY is like wine HE GETS BETTER WITH AGE omg he does !!!!! xoxoxo love u SAMMY BABY
Jimmy Page and Hagar would be off the hook... Would love to hear that....
We just need JP to show up at the Cabo Wabo !!!!!
Huge fan of Sammy. I loved his book. The guy is a hell of a singer and a class act.
I do not know how true it is. I have read this a few times. I read that in 2004, Sammy would not go back to VH unless Mikey was in too. VH wanted to fire Mikey in 2004, but Hagar said he wanted Mikey in, or he would not do a reunion.
This is why Sammy is so awesome! He says it like it is, no BS.
His favorite song with VH is also my favorite. Dreams
I wanna go to Sammy's birthday party in Cabo with him and the guitar legends he wants there!!
I wonder how many younger fans know that Sammy sang on one of the greatest rock albums of all time, the self-titled Montrose album. Hit after hit after hit. And thanks and goodbye to Ronnie Montrose.
I love you Sammy.....you would not sleep at night! :-)
I really think Hagar is credible as a true rock n roll musician. Hes done it all and theres no cliche there. He's rocked everywhere. But hes got a good atttitude. That's the difference.
Love this guy, amazing musician and down to earth dude
Chickefoot is SO awesome, both albums are amazing but I'm still hoping that we get one more full album with the Van Halen bros.
Sammy is still is the best! Thank you for the new album!!!!
It's hard to imagine anyone not being able to get along with the Red Rocker. Sammy just seems so down to earth and loose.
sounds awesome even today when he sings still got it
What makes Sammy awesome is his modesty.
He seems so real an just a down to earth guy! There's only one way to rock!!
A special song: A dual lead guitar thing with Joe Satriani and Ronnie Montrose would be fun to watch.
Sammy! I listen to ya music every day ! Love ya Brother!
AND he can actually SING!! Imagine that, and singer that can sing w/o any of that computer BS!! Sammy RULES!!
It sucks he sounds like Steve perry of journey
I can't believe how good Sammy looks at 65 years old!!! If I didn't know his age I would guess he was at LEAST 15 years younger! For real.
It doesn't matter who you play with, we just want you to know, we love you Sammy!!!
Love you sammy. Your a great musician. Ears will always be open. For anything you do. Class act!!!
Sammy I'm such a huge fan of you and have been all the way back to your Montose day's... Love ya and keep me rocking!!!! :)
@leirbagpeter Yeah that read a bit weird. Maybe he meant "last time I talked to Ed face-to-face". Because it seemed like Ed was asking him abt the trquila while Sam was busy doing something else - like probably handing out the signed bottles.
If I could hang out with one famous person for a day, it would be Sammy, hands down.
Yes and yes!
I really love this dude( no homo ) he is such a cool guy
I like that Sammy tells it straight and doesn't shit behind people's back and act like its chocolate.
I love all of Van Halen and all of Hagar too.
yah fuckn Hagar!! tell that shit like it is (Hagar aint the type to spill the beans, its just that eddie burnt that bridge to hard one time and Hagar was like "fuck this fucking guy" and I can totally respect that.
He is really awesome. Puts out great music and always seems to be a good person.
Top guy Sammy. Would love to see Chickenfoot tour England.
This guys' rap is always captivating !
I want an album with Billy Gibbons (ZZ Top) & Sammy Hagar.
That would rule.
Sammy, only one man knows how to properly drink tequila, his name is Tommy Lee Jones, phone him up he'll tell ya how. I admire your enthusiasm and energy You put so much heart behind what you do You're honest dude. EVH is one of guitar gods that's for sure, but he's a bit too foxy for my liking He has this thing about singers being his brothers He always says: "David is like brother to me" then David is gone and "Sammy is like brother to me, then you're gone and "Gary is like brother to me"
*One of Sammy's favorite rock songs: "Let The Sunrise Say Goodbye" from HWY-99 ... now on TH-cam (classic) !!!
he is a classy guy.worked for him n he was always kind to everybody.....
