    Michael Anthony is cool af! I was manager of a Maui Tacos restaurant in Hawaii on Maui and Mad Anthony came in with his wife and family. I comped his lunch and hooked him up with some of our bottled hot sauces and a few t-shirts and hats. The next day he comes back with an autographed photo and a sweet VH t-shirt. He says, "thanks for the food, hot sauce and swag yesterday." Mr. Anthony, you're a class act and thanks for the awesome experience of meeting you and your family!

      ***** You do understand that having an open mind, like I have, is what led me to believe that Sammy is better than Dave. I couldn't have come to that conclusion without listening to both. It's not just the music, but the stage presence. Sammy is better on stage. David is extremely unoriginal.

    • @AliTaylor777
      @AliTaylor777 9 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      reformcongress Sammy has by far the better voice. He's one of the only rock singers in his 60s that can still really sing. You just need to look at what's left of Coverdale, Gillan and Plant's voices to realise Sammy is something special. My objection to Sammy is that they let him write lyrics! They're awful. Completely juvenile and embarrassing. Poundcake, Black and Blue, Up For Breakfast, Spanked, Amsterdam (which was one of the final straws, I believe) etc etc. Horrible writing. Dave can't sing for his supper these days but he has a special way with lyrics that manages to combine humour, pathos and sleaze, often in the same sentence. If they could just persuade Dave to write the songs and Sammy to sing them, everyone would win!

Sure, there are people that play faster, but he was the complete package and was doing this before it was "cool" to do so. He is sorely missed today and will be for decades to come.

    Anyone who loved Van Halen has to love Michael Anthony and hate what they did to him. He was as valuable in their rise to fame as any of the other band members. He also held it together personally through all the rock and roll days, his health, his marriage.....so much respect for this guy.

      There was no need for the brother's to treat Michael Antony the way the done so. It had to be because he and Sammy Hagar got along through it all. Besides Eddie being the best guitar player in the world Michael Anthony was the best for keeping up with him. All it took was a new manager to come in and tell Eddie to get his band back from Sammy Hagar. Which was straight up bullshit.After he kick Sammy and Michael Anthony out of the band he went no where. Sammy continued writing album's after album's. With Michael Anthony. They took Michael Anthony's rights to play any VH song but they did count on him being Sammy Hagar bass player ,Don't forget Sammy wrote most of these songs with Eddie. EDDIE didnt go far when he got back with Roth and his song. Sammy Hagar was the final piece of Van Halen

    Wow people!! I just had a thought here and wanted to pass it on to all of you Really passionate Van Halens fans around the world. First, Im 57 now, and, yes, Ive been here for there entire career !!! 1978 to 2022. So im watching this again cause just like you I really cant ever get enough you know? Im sure we can all agree that this probably is one of the most incredible live Rock Concerts thats ever been recorded. The bands live show sound is by far the cleanest, crispy, tightest knit group of musicans to ever be seen or heard in the entire history of Rock Music !!! Well, i have a serious problem with people who try and claim that they are real serious Van Halen fans but also hate Sammy and everything they ever did together as a band once Dave left. With that said, I have the same problem with the Dave haters also, plus, we can even throw in Gary for the hell of it ok. WTF!!!! Seriously people !!! WTF !!! I mean, are these people actually serious ? It pisses me off beyond comprehension when I hear these Idiots who literally think they are true Van Halen fans but discount or completely throw half of there material into the trash like its dog shit !!! I swear that i get this urge to knock there teeth out!!! Do these morons actually think that Ed would actually consider them true Van Halen fans? Seriously!!! I promise you people, Ed would not dig anything about these idiots !!! That, im positive about. Anyway, my whole point here is this, How in the hell!!! Can anyone watch this concert on a big screen with high end headphones and the lights dimmed and come to the conclusion that this era of Van Halen was garbage !!! Or. That Sammy sucks !!! What !!! These people cant be serious? Can they? So, here is my whole point to this post people. Anyone out there who either hates Dave or hates Sammy. And also throws away half of there catalog in the process. These people are complete piece's of SHIT !!!! These people are not family or our bro's, they arent Van Halen fan's !!! Nope !!! They are not part of our Van Halen friendly family, in anyway shape or form !!! They are just old dried up pieces of Dog shit !!!!

By the time they finished the "sweetening" it was literally a studio album w/ all new vocals in addition to massive drum overdubbing and eddie's parts. I know they are far from the first and far from the last to do this but still it sucks especially from a band you love.

      No superlatives. Eddie was a great and innovative player, to be sure. However, there are equal players out there, such as Joe Satriani, Tony McAlpine, and, of course, the late Randy Rhoads. No, they do sound like Eddie but Eddie didn't sound like them. Apples and oranges, but all great tasty fruit! And yes, I play guitar as well as keyboards (I was a music major in college).

    • @bobjose5855

      Can't change your mind if you are set on Eddie. He is on a list of those in the conversation. His level of innovation as well as technical ability, creativity, and impact (fame?) were all elite. Those are the first criteria that I would consider. I'm sure that other people would bring up other aspects. He definitely changed the way people look at the guitar and was arguably the most famous of his day. There is always someone who comes after you that can play everything that you played and do it more accurately. Some of them will stand on your shoulders and take what you did and innovate further. Jimi is in the GOAT conversation for the same reasons. As Javier said, you can't really have one greatest. It is far too subjective, but we sure can love what Eddie did and enjoy considering the aspects of what made these guitarists great.

      In a video made ( I think ) before Dave quit , Ed mentioned that he and Donn Landee made the equivalent of 2 albums of "new" songs . Ed played all the instruments . The only thing missing are lyrics . The bad thing is all the tapes records/info were put on an old TRS-80 computer and it crashed . They tried and failed to recover info from the hard drive . Remember this when Scammy Hagar again lied and said there wasn't anything in the 5150 vault .

    This is what happens when a band is hitting on all cylinders. Sounding incredible live, not missing a note. Each and every member is doing their part perfectly. Eddie is the best, but Sammy sounds incredible live; even today at 72 years old. Alex is one of the best drummers to sit behind a kit and Mikey with the thundering bass while hitting those high notes just make this one monster band. Glad the boys mended fences before Ed's passing. RIP Ed. Rock on guys!

    With Van Hagar, Sammy has the ability to write songs that have "real" meaning that matters. He also knows how to grab everyone's attention with his energy, confidence, and humbleness. We become mesmerized by it, especially those who understand and have experienced what he has. That experience is a forbidden and ridiculed topic to most and that in itself will keep this masterpiece fresh. Even Pantera almost hired him to front. And Davd Lee Roth knew how to replicate Jim Dandy, jump, do the splits, and make people not stand him. It's not even a case but if it was, Case closed!!!!

No one was freaking out about politics or racism everyday. It was mostly about big hair, weird clothes and having a good time. This vid brought me back 10/10.

      @@muurimc I don’t know how many times I’ve watched this either lol I bought it on VHS when it came out in 1993. No TH-cam back then so the only concert (full concert) footage there was of Van Halen prior to this was Live Without a Net. That was good but it was only 90 minutes because they had technical difficulties and weren’t able to record the entire concert. Also it was their 1st album with Hagar so they didn’t have a lot of material yet. So when this came out to finally see a full Van Halen concert on video was absolutely mind blowing. Only complaint is that the director used 2 nights of footage and combined them so it throws you off sometimes when Hagar is wearing 1 shirt and then the next second another shirt. Eddie and Mike were smart and wore the same outfit both nights apparently lol Overall though this is an awesome F.U.C.K.ing show!

    My best friend's dad in high school worked for Sunshine Promotions in Indy. He got us summer jobs working Market Square Arena concert crew. When bands would come through Indy we were the worker bees that unloaded trucks, set up lighting and stages, ran power and cables, etc. When Van Halen came through on the first tour of this "Van Hagar" lineup it arrived in 12 trucks. I was working on Alex VH's drum riser when I turned around to grab another piece and Alex was standing there. He was talking with my foreman and pointing something out, some issue they had on the previous show. One of the cardinal rules when working on the crew was not to talk to the band members. No autographs, no compliments, just act like they're not there. But this is one of my all time heroes. So I stood up, wiped my forehead and went "whew!" overly dramatically and Alex just said "that's why they call it work" and walked off. But the fact he even spoke to me was epic. When we tore down the stage I wrote on the underside of that riser plate "I was here" and put my initials with the "Kilroy" cartoon. That's my VH story. Aren't you glad you now know it? lol
