    I would like a bit more of the history of the drink, what book did you get your recipe from?

    • @homemadeedition
      @homemadeedition  10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      The history is in the book and I try to promote viewers buying it so I don't like to share that info on the channel. The name of the book is listed in the title, the beginning of the voiceover and right here: Regarding cocktails by Sasha Petraske.

      @@homemadeedition You seem really standoffish, it's kind of a turnoff to keep watching your channel or buy anything through your affiliate link.

    • @homemadeedition
      @homemadeedition  10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      There is NO affiliate link, I don't make anything from you buying the book. I just like supporting it because it's a great book. Also, I'm engaging with you directly with thoughtful answers and not canned replies. If that offended you, that's a you problem and, frankly I don't give a damn. I'm not going to give you the history because I want to support the book. I don't make anything from it but the co-author (the author's widow), the artist and the publisher also make nothing if I remove any incentive for people to buy the book (by revealing all the book has to offer in my videos).
      It's all about money: making money for the hard working people whose work I benefit from.
      Now, if that offended you or seemed distasteful to you, that's likely because you felt corrected by my reply. But I didn't correct you, I directed you to purchasing the book. Which I still think you should do.

      @@homemadeedition You literally told off another commenter for giving valid feedback (you could easily have filmed making this cocktail again properly but chose to post a confusing mess), and when asked why you don't include more about the history of a drink, or even a comparison to the cocktail it's based off of, both things that are absolutely common practice in educational videos of any kind, you chose to snidely comment that viewers should go do the research themselves. So why should anyone watch your content? You're literally demonstrating that your channel is pointless, and you're actively asking viewers to go elsewhere.

      I did compare it to the French 75, and maybe the fact that you missed that is unfortunate. Perhaps we wouldn't be in this exchange had you caught that, I would be frustrated too if a video like this didn't compare them. But I did compare them so, I don't know what to tell you bro. And I didn't type snidely. I told you to do something you didn't want to do (but you don't have to, I am not your mommy that I should make you do something) and you read a snide tone into my words because you took them as a slap. But I didn't slap you. Why did you take it that way?
      And as for your thought "...do the research themselves" I would hardly say that is fair. Not every viewer cares about the history and, for those that do I want to encourage them to get 'Regarding Cocktails'. It's a one paragraph read but, if you can only find it in the book, maybe you'll do some good for Petraske's widow and buy a copy.
      I don't get why that's so offensive. Legitimately. I want to hear a clear explanation of how that's so rude or crappy of me. I want people to go buy the book, support those who made it and make sure it stays in print for a very long time. I already am undercutting the book by showing the recipes from it, I don't want to create any more incentive for viewers to not buy the book. Now, not every cocktail channel has that perspective, but I do. The fact that you are so put out over my position on this is a bit disturbing to say the least. Sasha died way to soon, the least I can do is honor his legacy by promoting sales of his book. Again, I DON'T MAKE A DIME FROM IT. Should I be more self-interested? Perhaps, but I'm not hurting you by it. You may want the history, but there's an easy fix for that: go buy the book. Like dude.... I'm at a loss here.
      As for the video itself. You didn't initially criticize it but, since you have now piggy-backed on the other commentor's thoughts, let me explain:
      I think anyone can follow a perfectly executed recipe but there is also value in educating in the art of fixing mistakes without chucking everything in the bin. I am a music teacher and this is a huge part of preparing for performance: continuing on whenever possible without stopping. Now, I don't even pretend to be an educator on this channel, it's purely for entertainment and encouraging amateurs to pursue the hobby. But if I am educating anyone it is those amateurs who are at home, not those behind a working bar. If I were educating professionals then it would be right to start over. Pros are serving paying customers after all. But when at home, things are a little different. And It's encouraging to see a YT channel that acknowledges that they make mistakes without always 86ing everything and starting over. People need to see that because it's encouraging and kind of funny (and I don't mind people making fun of my stupidity). Not everything needs to be taken seriously or severely, and not everyone (actually the vast majority of people) is bent out of shape because I got confused and decided to carry on and salvage the drink. Case in point, this video is doing great view wise compared to other recent videos. The fact that you're tantruming and insulting me like a child because I didn't do exactly what is " ...absolutely common practice in educational videos of any kind" just like every other cocktail channel would do, doesn't mean I need or aught to do it. It just means you're acting like a child. You've got to learn not to escalate things whenever someone simply disagrees with you.
      If you couldn't follow the "confusing mess" ok that's fine. But I didn't make a perfect video on purpose. Not that I plan mistakes, but I refuse to hide them when they happen or teach others that the only solution is to start over.
      If you don't like that, and are willing to tell me that you don't like it, it's perfectly fair and polite for me to defend my thought process. And when you start being a bit extra in how you are telling me, expect the same. I matched your level and everyone is free to read our entire back and forth and make up their minds as to who is pushing this in less than civil direction. And since you brought it up, it's also a bit extra for you to defend another commentor who didn't ask for it or give indication that they thought I was out of line. They said their peace, and I responded at most "in kind" (though honestly, less combative than they were) and we left it at that. They said what they think, I said I think they missed the point. Is that a problem for you? I'm not offended at their opinion and you should be offended at my opinion for them.
      As for "... actively asking viewers to go elsewhere." Yep! Is that a problem for you? You think I shouldn't tell people to support 'Regarding Cocktails'? Well, ok but I don't agree and I gave you a good reason why I don't agree. Am I wrong to support the book? See, people don't watch my channel just for recipes, they watch because they enjoy my take on things. Clearly not everyone does, but those who return over and over do so for that reason. My channel is built on that - my personality. If that means that my channel is ultimately "... pointless" I agree! I don't need to exist in this space. Go watch Kevin, Leandro, Greg, Anders... there are countless people doing things the way you want: mistake free and never "telling off" commentors (though they all do, actually.)
      But I am not going to stop making videos, pointless or not, because I think there is room for a different angle on the subject, even if it offends you.

    Remake the cocktail. Odd to follow through your instructions that were all over the place.
