- I start removing the turbo to replace it. As I remove it we look into the damage done to it. Also I struggle to find where the oil leak was from.

I personally find the repair work more enjoyable most the time than driving. Still like your driving videos, so keep it up Steve!

FSC Truck Shop drinking game. Every time Steve says "boys and girls", drink an entire beer. :) I'm a lightweight so after about 5 minutes of most of these videos I fall off my chair.
And I bet you guys thought those fenders were to keep mud and crap off the truck when, actually, they're just work benches.
One of the first things I always did was to put a cartridge oil filter between the block and the turbo. Cleaner oil to the turbo and if there was a failure somewhere in the engine it kept the turbo from being trashed.

Best thing about working on a cabover is the easy access to the engine
Use some high temperature brake caliper grease on those O-rings. It's strange that nothing is visible after the way the oil was leaking.

it's like my old 400 Cummins. There's a small radiator inside that housing that has 180° coolant flowing through it and is able to cool super heated air. Diesels are so impressive. You the man Hero.

I know you are a seasoned mechanic and I would suggest getting those ratchet wrench for some of those tight spaces, they work well

You have a crack on the ear tab on the air charge connection. I saw it when you were doing the closeup shot for us.

Why not re-route your fresh air supply on that Peterbilt ?
Try running a stack up behind the cab. ( On top they have a 90 degree air intake that would be facing to the front over the cab, then going down straight into the filter ) ( copy the international semi's ? And even though their running a Cummins, with that air going in a straight line and not on top of a hot engine.
You can Hear the turbo spinning up ! )
Think about it ?
Even the Peterbilts conventional trucks the air supply is short easy access ?
That was one of the reasons companies turned away from cab over rigs !
I personally was trained on cab overs. International Trans-Star 2 - KW's - Freightliners- Even a Western Star that had a queen size sleeper, 500 Cummins, 15 speed.
And a Peterbilt..
I also worked on my trucks . So if it broke down I had to fix it..
Personally I like CUMMINS and DETROIT engines. Parts are easier to get and most truck stops have parts or there's a parts store that will.
Cat's make power if built and turned up right. But those injector cups ? Special tool and they do fail. We made our own tool. But a cat will make Power but you have to pay that Fuel bill ???
Getting back to the air !
That way the air is not restricted starting at the front grill then running on top of that hot engine doing that crazy S motion like a snake then going to the filter ?
That's why the turbo sounds so weird . It's having to work to pull good
HOT air ?
Look it over and think about it ?
Why not go dual compound turbos ???
That Cat would go then !!

B model 3406 uses dual inlet intake but factory only uses one. The pipe bolts on from the top, not the side like yours.
I had a leak in the oil line but only under pressure so it wouldnt leak to look at it but when it was running and under pressure the oil line would leak..

No battery power impact wrench for disassembly?
I had a 350 Cummins that let go on me , it was leaking oil out of the blade shaft and blew white smoke from the stack.
Did I miss what the failures where? Or was that just not discussed in this video? Wonder if Pete tells him where the failure is or as he’s reassembling it he notices?
5:27 looks like a crack around the right upper bolt hole.

Ur aloud so much in thousands of play in turbo chargers have to look in up the newish turbo looks like a 425 turbo
I noticed the other day when you where slinging oil from the turbo that when shifting gears ?
Your shifting looked to be hard ? Like it wasn't shifting correctly ? Like Hard ?
Are your air shifting solenoids ? Or is the main shifters bushings or bearings going bad ?
They do wear out !
It was for sure you fighting the shifting !!!
Make sure your rebuilt transmission is not having a problem ??

I have a 3406b with blue smoke on the start up an strong fuel smell, any idea what's going on.
Typically blue is oil. But the fuel smell sends me to think over fueling somehow.

Antiseze will help the next time you have to make repairs, the yellow turbocharger look like it was on a bulldozer or tractor
Lmao you do know that anti-seize will melt off that’s why you don’t put it on spark plugs or brakes on top of that if you listen he did use it didn’t make it easier

That whole intake flow system sucks!!! Holy shit that thing flows like a Alaskan river in January.
Steve I am no expert, but I kind of think its not your turbo you got something else going on, didn't you say it had good boost, it sounded like the turbo was spooling up good in the video. I hate to see you spend the money on a turbo if its not bad.
I was thinking sort of the same thing....for some reason I couldn't stop having doubts with the oil line being any good...but I'm not there to see what Steve sees.
