You are very disciplined in your commitment to make videos,,,, I appreciate it..... I would get wrapped up in a job and forget to be attentive to the camera..... there is also a serious lack of swearing while turning the wrenches. I never knew engine work could be completed without swearing and outbursts,,,at least 2 or 3 thrown tools?
LMAO!! He is much more civil and quieter than I am. (But I do watch my language when I am making videos, it's not easy, but so far I've been a good boy😎😂🤣)
Any day you can put a KW back into service is a good one!! Congrats on the rain , after the monsoons earlier this spring it's gotten really hot and dry here! Thanks for the video!
Early morning video lets us see the not so sleepy Andy. 🤣 With this one your fingers had no chance of frostbite, and they even parked the truck so you had shade. This project looked to be fairly easy go for you, given this was being changed in the field instead of the shop. Sure sucks that this is the 3rd turbo you had to replace so far this year, maybe the "things happen in 3's" is done with you, for the bad things, hope the 3 good things happen soon for you. 👍 Thank you for today's video.
Andy looks to me like a gas axe is your favorite tool in the whole world. I sometimes wonder if you favour doing the jobs on your farm where you get to be able to burn things off and then leave the wrenching jobs to your guys.
Remember the days turbos were all timed to the application and all seal wired?? I do😪 much nicer now days, you don't have to fight the oil lines anymore 😎
@@FarmingFixingFabricating you do have a sense of humor!!! I remember changing the turbo on the 4430 we had, little Garrett turbo... 404 I believe, had to get the correct on, because all the bolts were sealed, bust a seal and no warranty. Was the same on the AC tractors we had too.
I Googled Turbos and found out the following: An Aircraft Engine which is not Super Charged {Turboed}, loses 50 percent of its rated Horse Power at 18000 feet above sea level. The engines which were used in the Curtis P-40 were not turbo charged and suffered in performance.
That hesitation then fire again is a bad crank sensor it starts on it then has a bad signal then switches to the cam sensor and will run off it..it will not throw a light as long as one if functional but if it does go out it will quit all together
You always replace air filter cos of metal fragments thrown up into filter and when started after turbo replacement sucking metal thru turbo normally voiding your warranty
@@FarmingFixingFabricating one of a few , glad you checked it . Check ur intake fins in a month and see if the ends are o.k. all i,m saying is when the turbo came apart there's enough force to send fragments into the air cooler , i,d just hate for u to gave to buy another turbo unnecessarily.

Andy I have a question it may be stupid or I maybe thinking about a different motor but when when we replaced the turbo on the cat I drove we always had to pull the exhaust manifold and replace these cups that chipped apart and went into the turbo, don't you worry about that or doesn't that motor have that. Thanks for sharing God Bless you and your family.
Andy,
You are amazing. Totally enjoy the shop videos. Thank you for your videography.
Andy, you're a natural for these you tubes.
Love em!
Thanks, JIM

Truck 12 gets a lot of love.

Twas a very nice day to be switching turbos!!👍👌💪
Yes it was

Yes hopefully we get a break from turbo failures.
great job, nice to know what you are doing
You make it look so easy pillars time I did one was not fun but only took me 2hours and that cause bolts broke ,lol yeah it was a fratshaker lol
As much heat as those turbos endure during their life, I wouldn't think a little torching would do much!
Good job andy
Hot wrench Andy. 👍

Will one of those work on a 5.3 Chevy truck stock bottom end cam head
You got it fixed even if heat was involved....lol. After all it is summer.
So the turbo doesn't need to be calibrated with the ecm?
Can you fix a broken Turbo without buying a new one? Anyway to refurbish it at a shop?
No not really
Great video!
What type of oil will added to turbo and does turbo take half quart or..? Please respond anyone knows. Thanks
Engine oil, only need about a pint
Thanks
Which turbine? And whats the measurements
Don’t recall off hand

How much is a twin Turbo in those engines ?
Not sure
I had a turbo go on a c10 cat it sent turbo fins in to the after cooler i had to replace that also.
That's horrible

Thanks for the info
The blades they broke apart because on blade must have broke off and done some damage to intake.
hopefully no internal damage Andy im sure you will get it done right
Nothing so far
@@FarmingFixingFabricating glad to hear that cause that could be bad

@@williamreedy5384 thanks bud, it's amazing that more stuff didn't destroy itself on a regular basis. Everything is a ticking time bomb.
Do these turbos need calibration when installing?
No
At least it didn't dump oil into the intercooler. If that happens and you don't clean it the engine could run away.
I know a few people that's happened to.... Wasn't good!
Yes that would be terrible
Do you not change engine oil and filter with the new turbo?
I didn't change it yet
Is it common to find a engine that big in a straight truck over there? Be no performance issues I’d imagine.
Pretty much yes, they are hauling heavy and on hills
Time to break out the heat wrench.
Shade tree Mechanics!
Must’ve cleaned that inercooler filter out...hehehe
Make a funnel out of a piece of paper, I do it all the time when pouring oil in my truck.
Ran a n14 Cummins that started like that

Try brushing copper anti-seize on part of the elbow that fits into the turbo. that should help remove when needed. Just FYI, love your videos.
Cat anti-seize is copper based, works awesome
The guy before me needed to do that
When are you going to do another live stream chopping?
Tomorrow morning maybe
@@FarmingFixingFabricating sure when I'll be in a place with no cell coverage LOL
Ah what the Hell I went ahead and watched. We’ll see how my luck goes. 👍
Lol
When are you going to start combining wheat?
Maybe tomorrow
haha
What year is this truck? "Old one."
2001
James still on the payroll? Haven't seen him in any videos lately
Unfortunately he has since moved on and isn't part of us anymore. He found employment at a gas station I believe.
That's to bad looked like he had a knack for changing tires
Sounds like you need call Garrett get after market turbo maybe better quality then cats .

This one isn't like that
What’s your favorite truck?
One that doesn't break down..... The flavor has a tendency to change frequently
Torch on a cat turbo is an automatic No Core
That’s what they told you…..I got the core credit
20k front axle dual steering boxes, Do you run chalmers rear suspension?
I answered that question when he pulled away, that’s a yes 😂
Chalmers,HMX,HMN and Hendrickson spring ride on the straight trucks
Mabe u may know is 11,000 hrs a lot if ur were going to purchase a dozer
Not really, they can be wore it at 3500 hours. Depends on what condition the under carriage is in.
