    I’m all for cheap and easy but I think you could easily put that axle side mount in double sheer and make it a lot safer and reliable. 5 stars for the nonsense disclaimer tho :)

      you basically have to change out the high pressure port, throw your stock one in the new pump. the reservoir on that wj pump has 2 returns so you have to plug one of them. you want the 01-04 with 4.7 v8

    • @mikes4x4garage
      @mikes4x4garage  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      The tie rod is not a straight line to begin with, so you have to remove one end to adjust it anyway. Kind of a pain but that’s the way these tie rods work. The hydro assist doesn’t change that 👍🏻

    How is this holding up?

    • @mikes4x4garage
      @mikes4x4garage  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Great! Couple little things I’ve changed
      1. I cut off the links on the hydraulic cylinder and welded on Heim joints. These are a lot better without any play in the joint
      2. My steering box died after about a year, highly recommend getting a sector shaft brace when running bigger tires.
      3. I had to swap the lines around so they wouldn’t interfere or get hit. The longer hydraulic line I had face the other direction and this took the slack out.
      Overall, still my favorite upgrade I’ve done to this Jeep.

    I went to Surplus Center for my ram too. Works great. For the steering box, I tapped the top cover, and then DIY 4x4 makes a front cover replacement that has a tapped hole. You might not be able to go that route on an XJ, but on a YJ, the front is wide open.
    I recommend putting some protective wrap on those hoses. Nothing fancy, but I got some plastic wrap from McMaster that just cuts down any chance of a hose rubbing through on anything under there.

  • @ibrigs19

    The other option was a terraflex 2low kit, pop from 4low to 2low to make tight turns then right back.
    There's also a restrictor valve in the pump that you can remove to greatly increase flow.

    • @mikes4x4garage

      @@mikes4x4garageyou can still get the teralow 2low kit, you cannot get the teralow 4:1 tcase anymore. All the 2low kit does is allow you to go from 4low front and rear to 4low rear only.
