He had been playing up and down trying to get back to himself before this game. I think when Thibs saw that he was on that game, he wanted him to get some playing time to get back in rhythm. In hindsight, it was an awful idea but at the time, it made sense to help him come back to form for the rest of the playoffs

We see NFL WR and RB injure themselves in non-contact plays so it is bound to happen with D Rose prime play style who is jumping really high and landing hard on the hardwood. It is a build up of damage too and not necessarily one play. If he plays it safe and with easier "correct" form, he would be slower and wouldn't be the great offensive player he was during his prime. There is a reason why we don't see many players play like DROSE in his prime and remain healthy with long career.
