This has been so incredibly helpful!! I was diagnosed with gastritis and an ulcer a few years ago. A year later also discovered I have Hashimoto's. I've worked with a functional doctor and have done so much research my eyes are rolling back in my head lol. I've always felt like everything started with my gut and your explanation of how everything works makes so much sense!!!
    Thank you!!!

Very thankful and impressed with your knowledge. Very informative, this is the kind of Health we need to know. Not the disease management crap from the overpriced "Health Care System" most are brainwashed into participating in. Currently trying to recover from life long gut issues because I lived off the Standard American Diet most of my life and not knowing any better, I appreciate seeing these videos. Will be watching more.

Thank you Dr. Dinezza. Your videos have helped put together so many missing pieces to the puzzle regarding all my various digestive issues. Im still in rough shape but your videos have been more helpful to me than the G.I. doctor and the multiple Naturopaths Im currently seeing that have drained my bank account and left me in worse shape than when I started. I would love to be treated by you but currently don't have any funds left to make that possible so I was wondering when enrollment for you course will commence? Or please make smaller package for treatment. One that poor people can afford. Thank you so much for your videos, they have been a life changer for me by giving me at least a place to start.

Thats why some practitioners recomend to take FOS or Polyphenols to increase akkermansia( thats from the Spain´s doctors approach) and also others recomend to take pectins( like apple pectin) to increase Faecalibacterium prausnitzii (also produce the butyrate). Please correct me if im wrong.
Your video was amazing, too much good information and very well explanied that even i understood it.
I will wait for your part 2 for this topic and know more about how to increase disulfide bonds ( maybe prebiotic supplement)
    Thanks very much.

Hello, Diego! Thank you for your response! :) the next video in the series will air on Friday of next week, so stay tuned!
The key with Disulfide bonds is that they require dietary Sulfur. So, while I do occasionally have occasion to recommend a lower Sulfur diet for folks with an overgrowth of H2S producers, that is not something you want to restrict long-term. You're better off working on your motility and the overgrowth so you can GAIN tolerance to Sulfur again (much like FODMAPs) :)

Found you through the microbiumrescuesummit and I'm so glad! Can't wait to learn more and hopefully find some more puzzle pieces on how to increase my health. I've been born C section so messed up gut since birth. On the low fodmap diet for years even went carnivore to alleviate symptoms.
To increase diversity would you recommend to start eating a small piece of every plant food and push through the burn and bloat?

Hi Mils! Welcome to my little corner of the internet 🥰 I'm glad you found me, too!
I actually have an Instagram series at @TriangleGUTS that you may want to check out. Most high FODMAP foods are considered low FODMAP if the portion size is small enough :) so you should be able to eat a bite or two without too many problems. I would definitly recommend working on your gut-brain axis, vagus nerve, and motility during that time, too.

I’ve been following an elimination fodmap like diet for so long, more than a couple years, that I fear that I have complicated my future gut healing endeavors. But fodmap freedom sounds wonderful. Would that include gluten?

You had me up until the needing fiber or fodmaps to produce mucus part. I got curious and now I'm wondering what is actually doing the production of the mucus/mucin in the body? From what I read mucin/mucus is indeed made up of oligosaccharides, but the naming appears to be different from the ones we normally ingest. After doing some research I'm thinking that these are actually produced by the body rather than the ones we consume. Particularly since it seems that it is a component that is produced in breast milk and I'm guessing the oligosaccharides we consume wouldn't make it intact for the formation of breast milk, so it does seem the body produces its own. I suppose the one thing that we would make sure to have enough of are the sugars needed along with the proteins and fats. So do we really need the oligosaccharides from food to construct mucin/mucus?
Those comments had me wondering as I recently decided to try carnivore and that lead me into researching whether it was healthy or not and what I'd be missing. Fiber was mentioned but then it turned out that it doesn't appear to be as needed as we've been told. I'm still not 100% convinced we don't need it but I have to be honest and say I'm 2 weeks into carnivore and all the gut issues I was having went away. I have read a lot about the benefits of bacteria though it is appearing we know very little about what is really the actual "healthy" biome.
That said I'm not sure I'm going to do this way of eating long term as I'm unsure what future issues I might have and it can be boring at times as I miss the other foods that I can eat. I definitely will be proceeding with adding in foods after a time on doing this as I'm hoping it might heal the issues that I have. I have the autoimmune aspect of IBS where I produce antibodies to viniculin which is another reason I thought I'd give in and try carnivore. I have done low fodmap and keto before and the helped some, but I still had issues that kept there. We'll see.

Hoping that came out as more questions than a statement of "fact" on my part. I'm still learning both about the gut and about the carnivore diet so I know little and have to trust the experts to a certain degree to make my own health choices based upon that information.

    • @gutmicrobiomequeen
      @gutmicrobiomequeen  4 ปีที่แล้ว +5

Thank you for the thorough, thought provoking comment!
You are correct that the oligosaccharides in mucin are manufactured by our bodies (in goblet cells). However, my thought process saying that was a few-fold:
      - The goblet cells need the substrate to make their oligosaccharides, and what better precursors than FODMAPs? Admittedly I should have put a disclaimer that this part of the reasoning was theoretical, but I do still think that makes sense.
      - More so, FODMAPs (and plant foods in general) are known to promote the growth of protective bacteria like Bifidobacterium and Faecalibacterium. Then your goblet cells "see" those bacteria and get the memo to make mucin. The role of the microbiota (and metabolites like SCFAs) regulating goblet cell mucus production is fairly well established.
At this time I see carnivore as the ultimate elimination diet. On the one hand, it is so strict that you basically remove anything that could possibly be allergenic (so, it does what paleo or AIP do, but on steroids). It also restrict foods that feed the microbiota like nobody's business (so, it's like Low FODMAP/SCD on steroids). I see responsiveness to such dietary restriction as very telling; you probably have/had a very dysbiotic gut. It is also ultimately a bandaid.
That being said, I am deeply curious how the carnivore diet affects the gut microbiota. Please email me at doctor@infinityholistichealth.com and I'd like to purpose a science experiment that I need your help with :)

If something nasty were to make its way through the mucus membrane and is now hanging out within the intestinal lining (or on the exterior of an intestine), is there a bodily process to get rid of that? Seems like from what you've said that there's high motility within the intestines and very low external to them, outside that thick mucus membrane you mentioned. Peritonitis can be life-threatening when something is perforated, but maybe some of the inflammation is a much milder, yet extremely painful variant of peritonitis? What process cleans up peritonitis? And I totally looked that word up...had no idea what it was before today, but maybe I look smarter asking this question!

So you can supplement things like butyrate. But is there a negative impact to long term development of something that you supplement? Meaning does your body slow production of it if it's "used" to getting supplementation? (Like humans and handouts, so to speak.) 🤔
