Nice job as carpenter and and double glazing fitter 35 years good to see you taking your time and doing it the right way fitting compost doors are a trade in itself they have to be fitted spot on
Started when i was 17. 33 now.. ive fabricated and manufactured them from start to finish and being a fitter. And if you've never had to cut them ribs off, you're doing something wrong. 🤣🤣 Top work guys
As a glazier installer of doors and bifolding doors you did a good job the finger is better to seal with as its flexible plus your right about measurements better slightly 5 to 10mm undersize than 5to10mm oversize
Are composite doors glazed in factory? Do they need to be deglazed on site and properly toe and heeled? Do they ever drop over time i wonder? Tidy job!
Hello - how much extra does grinding the ribs down give? I have a window about 30mm too big for an opening and this looks easier than taking the bricks out… cheers
You could possibly take more off the frame neatly and carefully with electric planer, if it's white PVC it'll look like a snow storm as you're doing it, remember to reduce equally top and bottom (or both sides).
tried masking tape and a vitrex profile tool (comes with 4 or 5 different radius 'heads' so you can size the bead appropriate for the gap you're covering) 😊
I’ve got a composite door I took off my garage, it’s got a removable threshold and I want to fit it on my shed. Can the frame and door be cut from the bottom to make it about 100mm smaller?
I wouldn't advice it no, up to you if you want to do a bit of a with It only being a shed, but technically answer would be defiantly no can't trim down
That mastic seal is a hell of a lot smoother than the mess out installers left behind. They certainly didn't use tape, or smooth it down I watched them do it.
Very well done, looks great. We had composite door installed recently and its bowed 3mm banana shape. It rattles when its being shut and gapes in top corner until you pull up the handle to lock it makes slight difference. Installer says its in tolerance with manufacturer regulations (below 3 mm), but we think its not good enough. And the installers didn't put any mortar at all and badly cut out the plaster board around the door frame no idea why. Also the silicone job is not as good as what you have done in the video. Gaps on the inside are irregular, which makes me think looking at this one, that our slab was made smaller on the width.
The gap on the right is 8 mm is it normal to able to see the locking mechanism? On the left gap is irregular smaller, top and bottom are minimal hardly any gaps, at the bottom the door scrapes the rubber draft excluder. What should I bring up with the installer to fix? He already came back to adjust the hinges so the bowed gaps are slightly less but made the gap on the left irregular narrow on bottom and wider towards the top. I contacted Endurance the manufacturer but have had no response.@@GMWindowsDoorsLtd
There were a few mistakes during that fitting which I would like to point out! Firstly, I would have used superglue to attach the frame. Then instead of ordinary mortar, I would suggest a strong flour and egg based dough to fill the cracks. But what do I know... I work in an office! 😂😂😂 Just playin! top job and I like the door too looks sick 😉👍🏼

@@GMWindowsDoorsLtd I once used some silicone profiles on worktops, I think they were made by Plasplugs, brilliant for worktops but not doors n windows, like I tell the wife, give it a good old fingering 😉
Nice job 👍 Did you measure off the sill to the underside of the brick work at the top of the door and then take off 10mm to get the correct hight of the door? Just to clarify my understanding. Can’t wait to see more work 👍
Hi mate so you measure from underneath the current cill or the DPC and then to the external lintel and yes take off 10mm If your using low aluminium threshers you may sometimes need to take off more than this so you can pack it up so it clears the internal floor Nice one
What about measuring the reveals inside so you know it will not interfere with the hinges. I hate those sort of Composite doors. I only fit double leaf 70 mil thick, doors plus the frame. nowadays they are just wood covered in plastic.
Would have put quadrant round 2 cover bricks when I had cut back clear sealant 2 brick work u know your self every call back costs ? Good luck never stop learning learning
Yes it looks good now but a proper fit would have been 2 chop plaster or cut plaster back 30 mil as 4 sand cement finish hinge side will crack and fall out in time not a good idea
Yes I considered this to be fair, but the left side would of showed all crumbled bricks, I am going back to change the bar handle so if the mortar has cracked I will think of a new plan
Expanding foam Congleton glass never used that on my door looks a great shame all fitters are not like you who does a decent job not like Congleton glass with there bad fitters

Why mesure the sides measure the middle from under the cill and then the sides to to check if the cills bowed
Cause the lip of the cill gets in the way if you measure the middle, the side will be a straight edge

Looks really good but can I ask does it not need expansion foam to stop thermal bridging around the frame.
They should ban foam, d I yers use it and cowboys
Golden rule all professionals know, measure twice cut once.
Yes it foamed on the left side the right side was tight so no room for foam
Spot on pal, as for the ribs I'm pretty sure every fitter has trimmed them down I no I have in the past 👍
