very cool. this was how some old school mixers would work using crossfader mute. people would mod the button into a momentary button instead of an on/off. can see it in play on the live Portishead DVD
This technique integrated w traditional scratching will make for some dope new transitions...and possibilities that might not otherwise be executed. I can imagine someone like P.JY, Scratch Bastid and many using this to do some new combos and patterns that might've not been rhythmically possible before.
Gate cue on any pioneer controller with pads by loading the track and leaving it paused. Use your pads and if you want the track to keep playing hold the pad and hit play.
I just changed my serato to the new one with stems. Now my djm s11 does not have gate cue along with all the other missing pad modes? Any help be great.
The great thing about a technique like this is that it manipulates audio in a completely different way to using a crossfader and manipulating the record. It can also help discover something you could learn to perform with a fader. But to present this technique using the same old sounds on the same old tracks using the same old scratch patterns, is not really in the spirit of what it's about imo. It should be about trying to use this unique technique in a unique way. Otherwise it's meaningless and almost detrimental because used in this way it's essentially a lazy substitute for proper technique. 3:49 super cool though.
4:05 what would probably sound cool would be to manipulate it while toggling back and forth between those two different cue point positions on the one sound. Kind of shown here, even without manipulating the record, and it sounded interesting
@@priyonjoni thank you for your reply! How would I go about migrating to serato from Rekordbox? I’m using windows not iOS. I don’t wanna loose grid and cue point information.
Thanks for the info! My question is when using the USB hub with (rane 12, CDJs in HID mode, LC6000) when doing a dj change over will the USB deck change to the new computer? Because that is a major pain having to unplug & plug the decks when going back to back with another dj..
Great video! This is unrelated but have you ever asked anyone at pioneer why the xdj-1000mk2 only shows the phase meter when using traktor pro 3 in hid mode . I have three of these and it’s make no sense that rekordbox can’t do this!. Anyway I love your videos and keep on jammin in the cornfields
You cannot because it doesn’t have gate cue. The primary function of gate cue is to allow gated hot cues while using DVS. There’s no issue doing it on the REV7 under standard hot cue mode, so gate cue function would have been redundant.
@@FunctionGermany I apologies that I’m not familiar with VDJ since I don’t have it. But are you sure you’re not confusing it with the gate hot cues which is different from the Gate Cue Pad Mode? Serato’s default hot cue triggering is gated. That means in internal mode, if the song is paused, you can do momentary trigger of the hot cues. Rekordbox’s default is like a CDJ, where if you start from a paused or cue/stop mode, trigger the hot cues will automatically play from the hot cues. This can be changed to Serato style by selecting the gated hot cue in the preference. I’d imagine, this is what you’re referring to in VDJ, but let me know if I’m incorrect. The Gate Cue Pad Mode is different from “gated hot cues” because it works as a “silencer” for a moving jog wheel or timecode. Gated Hot Cues only worked in Internal mode, Gate Cue works with DVS or Internal. It requires the timecode record to rotate, or the jog wheel to be playing. So the play head position is actually moving but is being muted when you let go of the hot cue. Does VDJ work like this? I did some research and I cannot find any function that works like the Gate Cue. But open to finding out for sure.
So annoying that these functions are being kept exclusive to certain mixers. No reason serato couldn't make this and scratch banks available to other mixers

I love that this guy isn’t full of himself but has some serious skill.
Really appreciate it!
Man dope videos as always. You definitely separate yourself from the rest of the dj's who give reviews. A subscriber for life man
Holy crap dude, Glad I just bought this mixer. And you have just gained a fan
You are a really master! 🙌
This is so creative- I need to try this. Thanks!
Game changer! Thank you!
thats dope’ thanks for introductory, i does plan on getting The 11mixer, i currently owns the S9 mixer, keep turning up PJ’✊⚡️✌🏾😀
Reminds me of the “punch buttons” I had on an old Kam mixer in the 90’s !
Yup it does!

That’s a great video man, and that’s really the first one of yours I see. I’ll subscribe now and check the rest later…
I like the option of doing that cause I'm not a good traditional scratcher but quick with the fingers.
I just won an S11-SE...it can't get here soon enough...especially now!
Congrats!
Congrats!!! I just bought one two days ago! I hope you’re loving you’re as much as I am!
I like the color of the vinyl. Where did you get them. 👍
I think this is clear vinyls + blue slipmat
This is what the fader is for.
Thx! maybe do separate videos like this one for all major S11 features?
definitely got that in the plans!
That's a lot going on with that mixer!!!!
Gate cue on any pioneer controller with pads by loading the track and leaving it paused. Use your pads and if you want the track to keep playing hold the pad and hit play.
On rekordbox, you have the option to go either way.
Amazing great job!!! where can i find the tracks you use in lossless?
nice technique.
I want it now, that i have seen this thanks, i have a reason to get rid of some old gear😂
You could do this with punch buttons on mixers like the Intimidation Blue in the 90's.
The idea was inspired from my old KL-10 mixer that has punch in and punch out buttons. However, it’s like having punch + hot cues.
Pode ser feito na DDj Rev-7?
I’d like to know this too since I just bought one
Nice tricks as always 👍😁
Thanks!
I used zzounds to buy my first beginner controller. Thanks.
They’re great! Glad to see you get your first controller!
@@priyonjoni now to go watch your videos and learn some scratches

trying this today
Nice video ! What is the reference of the blue vinyles please ?
They’re not blue. They are clear ones. The slip mats under them are white butter rugs.

Great video and technique! I have a semi related question. Which CV are you using? Are those the Hiesenbergs?(sp)
Where can I buy this 11
Can this not be done on the reloop elite ?
But how do I do this in Rekordbox? Double tapping hot cue gives me pitch play not gate cue?
Gate Cue pad mode with DVS is exclusive to Serato only
@@priyonjoni thank you for your reply!

Can u do that o.n the rane 72
hi bro is this function possible mapping the xp2?
I assume not possible for the s9???
No. Gate cue in DVS is only possible on the DJM-S11 and DJM-S7

You just have to switch the decks to the new computer. No need to unplug anything.
Are those ortofon reloops?
Can this be done on the REV7?
Is this possible using Rekorbox with the s11?
Gate cue as a pad mode is only available on Serato, so it can't be done on rekordbox.

No. Gate Cue is a DVS related feature on the S11 and S7.
Can this be done on a controller?
It requires Gate Cue Pad Mode which was introduced on the DJM-S11.
@@priyonjoni oh ok thanks
Is this gated cue only in serato?
Is it Possible with Controller??
This is only doable with Gate Cue which is only available on the DJM-S11 as indicated.

It's actually 4 channels. There are controls for deck 3 and 4.
