    I’ve been to Sao Miguel loads of times between January - March- I’ve actually experienced very few rainy days- I can remember a local welcoming us on our first visit “Welcome to paradise” they weren’t wrong, if your into hiking it’s just the best because this little gem in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean just doesn’t stop giving.

    Hi, really enjoyed your sao miguel video. Will definitely be visiting some of those spots. Could you pls clarif, from where you rented a car? What was the business name? Did you rent in sao miguel or before you got there! We’ve looked on line but it’s quite pricey. many thanks

    5:30 - There's a reason for that reaction: the original runway was much shorter than it is today and 45 years ago a TAP plane couldn't land properly due to the weather and ended up falling off the end into the ocean, killing 123 passengers. After that the runway was extended at both ends but in bad weather conditions (especially strong winds and rain, which are a common occurance there in Winter time), sometimes the pilots have to make a few attempts to land the planes. This happened to me 2 out of the 5 times I flew from the mainland to Madeira and I could feel the anxiety levels of the passengers building up until the plane finally touched the ground, so I totally understand Amber's nervousness. :D
    Applauding isn't only a "thank you" to the pilots for bringing them down safely, it's also an anxiety relief. Nowadays the runway is much longer (they did the second extension of the end of the runway across the water) but I see that it still happens. : )

      Wow. We did learn later how unique that landing strip was. Glad we landed safely in that weather!

    Madeira’s airport is terrifying to land on, people usually clap when you land

    Hey out of weather curiosity, what time of year were ya'll there?

  • @garywise38

    I'm curious where you rented your car. We are going to Sao Miguel in a few weeks and the cheapest we found was more per day than you spent for the eight days...

    • @SOSASATSUNRISE
      @SOSASATSUNRISE  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The rental was through Discover Cars. We may have gotten lucky. It was the off season and we booked the rental 2 days before we arrived. We have looked for rental cars this week in our current location and are also finding crazy expensive summer prices.....

    Hi thanks for the informative video :)) was the vehicle you rent manual or automatic transmission...

    • @SOSASATSUNRISE
      @SOSASATSUNRISE  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thank you! Our vehicle was an automatic but both options are usually available. Funny story, I was fully prepared for only manual cars. At that time of year, mostly Europeans were traveling to the island and they had all requested manuals which left only automatics.

      I don't know if there is a bad area to stay. Small towns with restaurants and stores are dotted all over the island. Rent a car and have fun!

      Learn a little Portuguese for the small towns but you should be able to get around just fine

      @SOSASATSUNRISE  ปีที่แล้ว

      It was in the town of Achadinha on the northeast side of the island. I do not remember which restaurant it was since there were several that had lunch buffets.
