    Where do I start with this John? firstly I can't believe 14 people have given this a thumbs down, what are they watching? why someone would click on this video & give it a thumbs down is way beyond me. I must admit that when the video began I was a bit worried about you walking over the slippery seaweed at night but the results of the video made me realise the reasoning behind this, the U.V light was a revelation, I knew that could be done with scorpions on land but not with anemones, another factoid learnt, tick!! I've never seen anything like that blue seaweed before, thanks for highlighting that!! Also like you said, I haven't seen a greater pipefish in many a year, the last one I saw was at Southend Pier when I was a teenager!! The only other UK TH-cam video where I've seen a snake pipefish was one of Colin garret's videos off of Chesil Beach but this is probably another UK first from the shore on video, I didn't even know they could be found on the shore!! Really, really impressed with this one John & I haven't even mentioned the other fish, crabs & lobster. Who needs an aquarium when you have this on your doorstep, impressive stuff for sure!!

      - Thanks Paul, most of the dislikes are from rival channels mate, jealousy and insecurity. The anemone with the UV light were incredible weren't they. @@andyyoung5972 I never realised Congers that small could give a bite like that, I used to go course fishing and I would never go for Pike because of what they could do. I preferred the carp lakes rather than the rivers.

    Amazing footage - I've completed well over 5000 scuba dives in just about every country in world, including over 100 dives under the ice. A majority of my divesxhave been in the UK - night dives, are without a doubt my favourite kind of dives, the whole food chain comes out to feed, you see creatures that you never see on a day dive. Shining your torch, enabling all the boring shades of grey to become beautiful bright colours. Never used a UV light.
    What amazing footage you created. Just when I thought you've reached a pinnacle, you pull this out of the bag... bravo.

    Well done John, and thank you, i live in the south west near the coast and adore my environment and have been learning from it all my life, having you teach and advise us in the way you do with your extensive knowledge from your obvious qualifications and experience as a fisheries officer is very refreshing.
    I have to echo the points Shore fishing Essex has stated by being astonished at anyone who would have any negative connotation to what you have shared with us all, especially after slipping and sliding around seaweed and other hazards in the pitch darkness to bring this to us all, the colours were beautiful and your knowledge refreshing, even to a country boy who has been walking the coastline swimming, snorkeling, surfing and loving every inch of our country for 57 years, and can only wish for you, calmness and stillness and an understanding that these souls are a little lost, and what you have shared is exactly what they need to re connect..... not just with nature and her systems but with humanity, with an open heart and open mind.

    It's a good job you explained all about the lobster and breeding time, V notching and size. If I had found it I might well have taken it, but knowing this now I definitely wouldn't. I don't think I would be sticking my hand in a lobsters hideout either!

    Absolutely unreal with the UV light. Inspiring us to go and explore our coastal area in South East Ireland just across the way from yourself. Did she just pull out by clamping on the spear or did you have to get your hand in? I'm terrified of putting my hands in there 😂. Fair play for notching and releasing her too, I was hoping you were gonna.

    • @TheFishLocker
      @TheFishLocker  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      - Incredible wasn't it!! I could have stayed there for hours watching them I just though it was amazing. I hope the video does it justice. The trick with the lobster is to either get it underneath her and waggle it about behind her making her think theres something behind her in the hole. So she either comes out or turns around. If that doesn't work then you play around with her claws. If she clamps on you can either pull her out or whilst she's occupied, reach in and grab her. Take care and stay safe Gary. :)

    Thanks for showing the v-notching, I've never seen nor heard of it but I'm not a shellfish eater. I'm highly allergic to shellfish, even in a cross contamination situation, so I don't eat fish unless I catch it or I see it caught. Great video and that was a beautiful lobster. She will now live to produce more for the future. Take care and stay safe.

    Something about the dark is always mysterious, and then the UV light exposes all the beauty hidden in the darkness. Very entertaining vlog, I'm anxiously awaiting the next night time foray into the coastal dark. All of you take care, and stay safe.
