    It's just as good as an Attenborough documentary.

      Same here! Was gutted to not be on the water myself this weekend, and the person meant to be sorting my bilge out couldn't make it either adding insult to injury, delaying it further. Was really hoping John had had more luck than me as a consolation prize! Am dying to see the new boat, and the huge grin on his face that'll accompany it! Brilliant foraging video though. The sea scorpion was my first ever shore fish catch, was over the moon with it. Was so well camouflaged on top but so brilliant and brightly coloured underneath. Fab fish!

    Love the pistol shrimp!! They are incredible! My son has one in his salt water aquarium and the yellow goby is his guard. He watches the entrance to the space they dug out under the rocks. If a hermit crab comes along or a snail, you hear the pistol shrimp fire and the crab is stunned and then scatters quickly. I love your foraging videos. Always so much to see and to learn. Best wishes to the Fish Locker family!!

    I read a book in high school , more yrs ago than I care to admit , about the Irish famine...
    Politics & culture aside , at that time the seas were stuffed with Cod & a multiple of other species that would've saved so many lives...but Ireland was not a "fishing" culture.
    It was also a time where a great migration to America began.
    And the English were more than eager to help this happen...
    Im too young to remember , but when Kennedy ran for president , the fact that his family were Irish catholic was presumably a liability..
    But, of course he won .
    Then , it was a celebration of the first Irish Catholic to become president...
    I watch your video's & Im amazed at how much food is there for the taking...
    And , its an extremely heathy & delicious food source..love it

    • @TheFishLocker
      @TheFishLocker  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      There are many pivotal points in history that are fascinating when you think about them aren't they. Coastal areas have always been fishing cultures, but sadly back at this point in time logistical routes were not capable of supporting the volumes and freshness required for seafood inland.

    I've been so busy lately I haven't had time to do anything, let alone watch TH-cam videos but I'm glad I found the time to watch this vid John, that was stupendous!! I learn so much watching these vids, the variety of life to find on the shore in Cornwall puts all other parts of the UK in the shade, it's so interesting to see pipefish, sea scorpions & topknots (love the UV colours on them, who'd of ever known unless someone like you bothered to look!!), these are fish rarely seen on my coast, as ever I'm loving the content, it's really enjoyable, watchable & full of interest for me!! Just watched the lobster/crab pot hauling video, shame there's so many wrong uns' about, all the best mate, stay safe & send our best wishes to your family, see you soon!!

    Lovely job John. I've spent as much time on beaches as the average person but never got so much out of it as having an expert guide like you to watch. Those sea scorpions don't seem much bothered to be picked up. I wonder if one day they'll tell their kids about the night the hand of god came down and grabbed them up and they didnae care.

      Haha. My theory is that fish ( like many other species ) sense electrical currents and energy. If your body energy is calm and non threatening they are also calm. Who knows?
