The Best Wreck fishing I have had in years!!! SO MANY BIG FISH!!! | The Fish Locker

- Pollack Spawn in the early months of the year. January to March so I try not to take any during these months. After allowing them to spawn and fatten up a bit its time to stock the freezer with some prime eating fish. Today I have the best Pollack wreck fishing session in years. So many good healthy Pollack on the wrecks - I believe this is due to the restrictions imposed on commercial fishermen over the winter stopping them netting the wrecks for Pollack. I truly hope this continues to improve the Pollack stocks and subsequently the fishery.
Here are links to some of the tackle that I used in this video. I hope it helps.

Nice gadget 👍
A very jealous Cornish fisherman that now lives in Bulgaria, far from the sea, would like to congratulate you on your fishing and your TH-cam journey!
You have come so far since the beginning and its great to see you making a huge a success of your passion 👏🏼
So many elements in your videos now that I can't even begin to highlight individual segments.
From hook to plate, tackle knowledge, boating skills, diving pleasures, safety, conservation, shore, reef and boat, educated.....the list goes on.
The way you go about your fishing is admirable.
You respect the environment and the catch.
You are knowledgeable and pass that knowledge on.
You dont take for granted what you are lucky enough to have surrounding you.
You are entertaining whilst informative.
Beyond that, you are a pleasure to watch and learn from!
Im not one for leaving comments normally but some things you just cant leave without giving kudos to those that put so much time and effort into giving us a glimpse into their world.
Pretty awesome and im not just talking about the fishing 😉
May it long continue 👏🏼
Thank you very much for the fantastic postive feedback. It hasn’t been easy and there are some really venomous people around. It seems the larger your success the more jealous people you attract. Thank you. 👍🏻💙
I'm a new watcher, just found you in the last week and been watching from Melbourne, Australia. You've inspired me to set up a beach day with friends and look up the marine laws here and learn a bit about our local environment while we check out our rock-pools. I grew up watching Les Hiddins and you two have a lot in common. I'm blown away by how you know all the Latin names and how your channel remains so wholesome. All this to say your efforts are greatly appreciated and maybe the haters are more likely to comment but there are a lot of us who silently watch and love the message that you bring.
I did laugh when I heard you say that Aussies will be cringeing when I put my hands into these caves and crannies in the rock pools. You're damn right about that!
@@TheFishLocker Unfortunately that is how it is. I prefer to strive to become more like those that are successful than being jealous of the fact that they are.
I'm sure you're strong enough to ignore the hate and use all the positivity to motivate you and continue on your journey 👍🏼
If I ever return to Cornwall I will have to try and catch you for a fishing lesson 😉
Keep up the great work, I'm already looking forward to your next video 🧐😁
I am from TMS ... left to join the army in 2003 and now live in Germany ... I love watching your videos ! ...i used to go fishing myself off Falmouth on the wrecks and Porthleven .. Beach casting for bass at Perranporth .. your videos make me a bit home sick sometimes XD .. keep up the good work !
Stay safe 😊
👍🏴😁✌️
TMS - transcranial magnetic stimulation ?
Glad you enjoy joining me John. Best wishes and stay safe.
Hacking crowbag 😂😂

What I like about your ethics, is you only take what you need or what won't survive if you put it back. You also stick by the rules for sizes and release anything undersized. Great stuff and thank you for your vlogs.
I simply live and fish as I feel is right.
The perfect day, the sea flat calm and the fish hungry there's nothing better 🙂
You can’t help but love it!!!
My word, those donkeys could take you water-skiing. Beautiful specimens. I read your other comment about your success correlating to more venomous people chiming in with irrelevant and unwanted advice. Don't entertain the begrudgers. All the best John, from an admiring Dublin angler.👍
Awesome fishing, beautiful fillets, quality feeding right there. As an Englishman fisherman who has lived in New Zealand for the past 24 years I love watching your fishing back in old blity is both nostalgic and encouraging. You have some really good fishing and foreshore life going on, it's good to see. I welcome you to come and fish here in NZ, get you on to a good kingfish or two, they are brutal fighters and delicious at the same time. Come over mate, would love to have a fish with you
I have heard people talk about Kingfish before. Exciting fish!!
They will do their best to pull your arms out of your sockets, screaming runs, pull like a school boy and will consciously try and wrap you up on any structure. Poppers, jigs and particularly livebaits get them. If you want to have a crack in our summer, your winter let me know and I can sort out fishing and accommodation for you mate.
As a shore angler im always very jealous of boat anglers as you always catch bigger fish. But I also realise the work and expense that goes into a boat. Tight lines sir
Aye mate.
Get a boat
By The Wind Sailor, interesting little creature, in my 63 years on this planet, I've never heard of them.
Every day is a school day mate.
Two in one day, you’re spoiling us JL Tonight’s was an absolute joy, the By The wind sailor was stunning, as I said in the earlier video, every day is a learning day! 👍
Aye mate. The videos compliment each other. Tbh the main channel has grown so large now I can’t find the time for regular workshop videos. Maybe if it grows large enough that I can stop working and just do TH-cam? 🤷🏻♂️
‘Living the life’ is what I’d call this mate and you look like you’re thoroughly enjoying it. Good man 🫡
I love it!!
Nice fish. Those sailing jelly fish things were just beautiful.
Cheers John, you are indeed the John Noakes of the sea.
Not sure who he is, but thanks. 👍🏻🎣

Your excitement is infectious, good day in the office! Looking forward to see Jim cooking again! Great vid!
Jim has not had the best of health, when he is well we shall film with him again.

Fancy Lad Trousers, Waves throwing the Dingy around and what an Epic Day of Fishing....well done..
Another good Sunday with TFL, this time seen from the hospital with approx. 60% less spleen but in a good mood because of all the morphine I get in my IV, a completely different experience on the boat today😵💫🙂❤
And as always Greetings from Denmark 🇩🇰
Wishing you a complete and speedy recovery.
@@alangood8190 Thank you 🙂
Wow, big operation fella hope you feel well soon. All the best
@@petertaylor3446 Thank you 🙂
Best wishes bud, hope all goes well on your recovery
I'm going to love watching this. Mixing history with fishing!
Best wishes from your friend in Boston.
Have a wonderful day.
The naturalist and the conservationist coming out from the fisherman ❤️
A proper fisherman or hunter is also a conservationist.
Can't agree with you more. It's not just about the fish; highlighting these things makes your excellent videos so much more interesting.
I am simply sharing what I love doing. 😊💙
What pleasent surprise, a little visitor(s) from south, the seas just never stop giving do they! Fascinating, thank you John.
My pleasure mate, glad you enjoyed the video. 🎣👍🏻
Again a great tutorial how to fish a wreck. Shows you that you not just have to keep winding in fish for the freezer, but also can have loads of fun fishing a small rod and a small lure/jig and return the fish you do not want to take home. Great video once again John. Greetz from Stipo from Holland
Sustainability and restraint when harvesting fish. Doesn’t mean you can’t have some fun along the way. 😉🎣
I have great respect for you and your ethic for conservation and appreciation of the pelagic resources. Blessings and Joy to and your family! 🤠 from Texas
Thank you Sir and best wishes to you and your family.
Job done John, freezer no longer empty. Great upload, regards to the family and greetings from Cyprus. 🐟🐟🐟🐟🦞🦞😎😎
After those fish it certainly isn’t empty!! 🤣
Fantastic video John, great Sunday entertainment plus the addition of a very interesting explanation of the sail jellyfish, fascinating. Seen them several times out in the bay but didn’t know exactly what they were. The fishing was magnificent, very jealous. Thanks yet again for a great Sunday evening.
All the best mate.
Brilliant day out 😊
👍🏴😁✌️
Blinder of a trip mate.
Hoorah it's Sunday again. In bed with a cup of tea enjoying another fab video. Thanks John.
Every Sunday without fail. 😊🎣
Hey John, hello from 🇨🇦. Do you know the stories of these wrecks that you’re fishing? Is it possible to know the name of the boat may be a little bit about how the boat found itself on the bottom? I think it’d be really interesting as a small segment on these wreck drifts, and give us a little more insight into the boat itself, size, type, age... I also really like it when you send a GoPro down, all the Perhaps there’s not enough light. Either way your new posts are a highlight after a busy day. Please keep up the great work.
@@SweetLeadership - If I told you the name and the history. People would know which one I was fishing and where it was so there would be 10 boats on it the next time I was there
@@TheFishLocker Understood! Does anyone spot their stolen gear when it’s up for the off-season?
I normally go on about how beautiful the opening scenes are on the boat first thing ,,, not today ! Those fillets at the end wow,,, just wow !!,👍🏴
Prime eating fish. 👌🏻
Nice By-the-wind Sailor footage, don't see them often. I'm a graduate of marine sciences, and I love this stuff, but I've never had the opportunity to see one of these in real life ❤
I find these things fascinating too.
This is what I love about your videos, the unashamed geekiness and delight in nature and the weird and wonderful stuff thats out there. In a world seemingly full of people who are clueless and couldn't give a F, it is heartening to know there are still people who are lit up and enthused by this stuff.
My favourite binomial name (as i suspect its not a latin one but a greek origin one) is catalpa bignoniodes (its a tree).
Haha. I have never been ashamed of being a geek. I don’t mind if other people don’t find this interesting, I do. 🤣💙
@@TheFishLocker Fly that geek flag high!
Just found your vids of fishing Florida Keys, I follow a Lower Keys underwater cam so it was interesting to see how the species I am watching underwater, fish from the shore (Viva The Keys if you're interested).
Where else would you rater be ? Ever since I was a kid small boat fishing always made me sea sick. What a day. what a fish and what a treat for me, being there with you was absolutely fantastic . Keep safe and well. Tight lines.
I still get sick from time to time. Usually when I’m over tired from night shift or jet lagged
Beautiful fish. Loved that you didn’t plunder the ocean by keeping more than what you needed.
We never do. I always try to promote conscientious harvesting. Taking only what you need.
We’ve been out today too. Stayed off the wrecks. Hit into a massive shoal of mackerel. Was like fishing 20 years ago! All mackerel were rammed solid with tiny sand eels. Loads of nice sized bream. Fished the slack for tope to 35lb
James and I had some mackerel yesterday that were rammed full of tiny sandeels.
@@TheFishLocker the commercial ban on Sandeels is definitely helping numbers claw back to what they were years ago! We spent 10 minutes and had more than plenty for big baits and plenty for the BBQ! We could have easily filled a box in another 10 mins!
really good video john, good fishing day it seems
Definitely one of the best.
Villa fan here and I've enjoyed your channel for over 2yrs now and love the sibling banter. Not sure what TH-cam are talking about....never have I heard anything "misleading" from either of you. TH-cam owe you a massive apology, Matt. SORT THIS OUT TH-cam!!
I’m not sure who this comment was meant to be for, but I don’t think it’s me. 👍🏻
A grand day out John 😁
Absolutely was mate. Dont get many like that 🎣😉
Blessed with two videos today, happy days 👍 thanks for taking us along with you mate. Giants those 😯 🎣👏
Any time mate.
Those pots are so clean they look new, and the fishing looked so easy you must have thought you were dreaming!
It might have looked easy. 🤣
@@TheFishLocker making it look easy is what the pros do!
Excellent day on the boat, John. I knew just by the title, that it was going to be epic. I was so excited about watching it. And you certainly didn’t disappoint. I could have watched for hours.
I’m glad that you enjoyed joining me.
What a great day’s fishing John, love it when a plan comes together. Always learn something from your videos 💪🎣🐟
Aye mate when it all comes together it’s a great feeling isn’t it. 😊👍🏻
Certainly is 👍🦈🎣🐟
Superb video John ,the stamp of Pollock was amazing esp' that first lunker ,and your usual care for the returns marks you out as a genuine lad , atb' from Gods own county
That first Pollack really was a monster wasn’t it!!
Your videos are so flipin' good, mate. You looked like you was having the best time out there. That by the wind sailor was a cracking little thing. When you pulled it out the water I thought it was the man-o-war jelly fish fascinating creature. That the think I love about your videows your so enthusiastic about all the creatures not just the big fish. I never new about this by the wind sailor had no idear but now I do!! Really fantastic stuff mate I really appreciate all the work you do. All the best and tight lines 🎣🎣🎣
It’s all part of one big wonderful picture mate. 💙🎣
@TheFishLocker 100% my friend
Well done John , you put a smile on all our faces with this one ! The bigger ones are not yet showing yet around the IOW but soon we hope. Love the light stuff, great fun.
The water quality here has just gone down hill so it’ll be a few more weeks until the fishing picks back up.
Sunday night over in Canada enjoying your content! Great fishing videos and always love watching someone who is not only good at their craft but very knowledgable about it and loves it as well. Thank you!
Thank you very much for the positive feedback. I really appreciate it. 😊👍🏻🎣
Showing the marine environment to its fullest potential.
What a pollock- no piss taking 👍
I’m aware that you are a marine biology guy from previous messages
As an angler and part time biologist I would love to keep seeing your content
I remember as a kid being on a beach in Sardinia absolutely covered with thousands of by the wind sailors and the next day they they had moved on there must of been tens of thousands of them.
Amazing aren’t they.
absolutely great , amazing John Many thanks
My pleasure mate.
I like your concern for the welfare of the catch. I learned of the descender in Australia about 15 years ago, and made my own. My boat was based in the Isle of Man, and the fishing was similar to what you had on this trip- a fish evry drop! With the descender, I'd let the fish sit about half way down, ond more offen than not, they'd just sod off when they were ready .Then I found a few marks where fish of a good size were lurking in shallower water, so no more barotrauma -I've had that with me ears, and it bloody well knacks! All went back to fight another day, this pleased my catch and release sensibilities. Love your vlogs, they make me miss my boat more each time I watch.
What a fantastic video. Thank you.
Lovely to see an expert at work. You are a great fisherman and your knowledge is fantastic. Thank you for sharing. Those fillets were amazing. Well done.
My pleasure mate.
U were grinning like a Cheshire throughout that video and little wonder. Love the new bib and brace set.😂
It was a blinder of a session mate. These are the same bib and brace I’ve have for 2 years. Hard wearing kit. 😉👍🏻
Thank you John , my best to you and yours.
And to you John.
An absolute joy to watch. Thank you.
Glad you enjoyed it Becca.
That's a cracking video John keep them coming mate
Cheers bud.

Stunning day out, John. Thank you for sharing 🙂
Glad you enjoyed it Mike.
Can't do enough 'likes'... Brilliant. Pure joy.
Thank you very much mate. If you think any of your fishing mates would enjoy this video please share it on.
What a day!
Also, on Cape Cod in New England we can get tropical fish during the summer. They get carried north and east by the Gulf Stream, and then get carried back to shore by big eddies. Coconuts are also carried north and show up on Nantucket Island off the coast of Massachusetts.
Amazing how those currents works isn’t it
Cracking video mate, always a joy watching pal. Top angling!
Thanks mate. 👍🏻🎣
Absolutely love watching you fish,, keep up the great work
Thank you Denis.
Great video, thanks John
Glad you enjoyed it Neil.
Pleasure to watch yet again John, amazing mate

I Love it a man who just loves to be out on the sea even on bad days, this wasn't one but great to see. Thank you.
You make it look so easy John... Thanks for the upload mate.
Haha. It might look easy.
What a great catch John. Superb day's fishing. Thanks for sharing with us all.
Any time miles.
Brilliant as always John 👍🏻
Glad you enjoyed it
Really cool that you showed people how well the decenders can work. I wish everyone would take the time to use them.
Hopefully videos like this will encourage people to do that.
Thank you for this great video.
It is my pleasure.
A great day's fishing,another great watch, John.
Thanks Stuart.
Well done. Certainly made me feel envious what a session. The whole video was great John.
Thank you very much.
Great session....thanks for another excellent video!⚓
Glad you enjoyed it mate
Good advice as usual and great catching...
Thanks mate.
John, aside from your fishing skills I really admire your talent for monologuing into a small camera, solo at sea in a small boat. Nice fillets too.
It’s easier when solo, I always feel like a real numpty when there’s folks around. 🤣
Fish , fun and a enjoyable day in the boat and a bit of nature thrown in great video John 😊😊
Cheers mate.
That is so cool to see. Love the by the wind sailor!! You always teach such thrilling episodes!
Fascinating creatures aren’t they.
Awesome John! What a day's fishing!
Yes it was.
Really enjoy your videos and expecially the educational aspect aswell
Glad to hear it. 👍🏻
I usually enjoy your coastal foraging videos, but this one was very fun to watch! Thank you and keep doing what you do! Thanks to you I know way too much about Southwest England's marine ecosystem than I'd like to admit
Haha. You never know when that knowledge may come in handy. 😉👍🏻
Brilliant video John. Fantastic fish and superb filleting skills!
Thanks Andy.
If you put your lead on a weak link, i use 20lb nylon/ flouro with a couple of granny knots, it saves losing lures. I tie the leads up with a loop on the end in advance to save time.
I’ve tried it but found that occasionally your mainline can wrap around the mono weak link and you get it a right mess.
One of your best !! Thank you.
Thanks Mark.
Awesome video john some cracking sport there on spinning gear and some great tips and educational stuff as well. Great content as usual mate
All round cracking day at sea. These are the trips that make you forget all the bad ones 🤣
Hi, John. What a miracle that you had an almost windless trip offshore until late afternoon. Given all the wind you've had to put up with this spring, you richly deserved a day of what we former swordfish harpooners referred to as "flat-ass calm." And those big pollock! If I can find even ONE that size in my planned hunts for pollock this summer, I'll be thrilled. Stay safe, Chris (Maine, USA)
Days like this are that small weather window as the wind changes direction between blows. This spring sure has been a windy one. 🤣🤷🏻♂️
SO much fun!!!! Thanks ❤
You are so welcome
Awesome video, thanks. The birds at the end made me laugh. Have a wonderful week.
You too mate.
Love your catch today with your colonial hydroid colony. Well done for coming across it and showing us. Fun stuff. Wow you had great day fishing.
Fascinating aren’t they. 😊👍🏻🎣
Brilliant I just love watching this stuff
Awesome isn’t it
What a job really very nicely done, great to see here out on open water…
Thank you.
Great video loved the info on sail by the wind
They are so cool aren’t they.
As ever John, another superb video. Educational, Informative and just so interesting and fun at the same time. Thank you.
My pleasure mate.
I've ran out of fantastic things to say about this channel...its absolutely F#£%*&G brilliant. Cheers all the best marra 😃
Just sharing what we love doing mate. 👍🏻🎣
Listening to you is better than sitting for an afternoon in any library
Good or bad?
The only problem with the first fish of the day like that. Usually it can only go downhill. In the United States we call that a tank or a slab. The slab refers to the slab of meat you're going to get off the side of it. That is a dam wall hanger. Congratulations 🎉👏🎉👏
We use slab when referring to flatfish. I assume because it’s like a paving slab?
Had my first proper keeper pollock in a very long time recently. I also agree to bleeding the fish. But also skinning it come cooking time. Found the flavour much better than with the skin on. 👍
Yes. Depending on what I’m doing with them I sometimes skin them too.
What a great catch and some fine filleting skills....enjoy John.
Plenty of practice mate. 😉
Thank you John for the last half hour fishing video, always looking forward to your video's great fish them Pollack. Take care.
My pleasure John.
Perfect as always. Thank you for showing the wind sailor and how you can use a descender to assist the fish back down. 😊 Those first two pollack were amazing
I have made a seperate video about the descenders, it’s on the workshop channel. 👍🏻
Brilliant catch today well done x
Glad you enjoyed it Debbie, have a lovely day.
Total respect for this guy ❤
Thank you.
Crackin vid Lad and what a gorgeous day for it! Ta for takin us all on yer latest trip fella and that was sum catch! Well done

That’s just great fishing. Nice to see you return what you can. Lovely filleting, you kept the Gulls happy too. Just great.
Haha. To be fair that audience is easier to please than TH-cam. 🤣
