Marly Bird I already posted this comment but I want to make sure you see it. Could you plz plz plz plz🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻(I think you get it) how YOU (MarlyBird) knit? I'm a beginner and a lefty but I've been trying Right since I didn't know you could knit lefty.. help me MarlyBird
Hi Marly I am a beginner knitter and came across your video looking for help. Wow knitting can be intimidating but also can be fun. | tried doing what you suggested on your part 1 video but not successful. I think the yarn I used and the size needle created a problem. I am learning that yarns are not all equal in consistency as far as getting the proper gauge and outcome.. After several attempts and changing yarn I am now able to manage knitting my first sock; it was not without much trial and error and ripping back. I tried a few different yarns and I finally found one that I was able to manage. The knitting needles are also an aspect. I do like the bamboo ones but for some reason this time they didn't work as easily so I used the metal ones and that worked much better. I will follow the rest of your videos to learn the whole technique. Thank you so much for providing these tutorials. I would like to converse with you if possible through my e-mail which is jeade63@gmail.com. Jeannine
I picked up knitting during the COVID19 shutdown. I figured out basic knitting and pulling, made a scarf and ventured to DPNs to make a hat. Then I saw this series about socks. Watched all 6 videos. You convinced me I could do this ! You're an amazing teacher! I made one sock (a prototype) with acrylic yarn I have around. With your videos, I'm ready to try making socks with actual sock yarn! Thanks for these videos! I smashed the like button on all of them!
Of all the tutorials I’ve followed for using dpns, not one has suggested to divide the stitches and join while needles are positioned flat on a surface. Once again, you’ve demonstrated your genius as a hand-crafter and facilitated a skill once thought as difficult. Thank you!
I would love to know the genius who was able to create socks - or even know about knit and purl stitches. I mean, it really is amazing when you think about it. You did an excellent demonstration - kudos to you for being able to teach us how to knit socks! You rock.
You do so much to encourage and give confidence to those of us who feel reticent to take on newer, more difficult skills. Thank you for taking the time to explain so thoroughly and clearly.
Marly Bird, I just want you to know you gave me the super power to knit socks, and EVERY start I come back to this video, to cast on and begin, see I need you with me. Thanks Gal pal
Girl! I wish I had found your video last week. That lifeline tip could have saved me. Instead I unraveled from the heel flap and re-rolled it all to the ball of yarn. Your instructions are so clear and precise, from the no cuss cast on to the Knit 3 for picking up gusset stitches. Clearly the best sock video out there. If anyone is reading this and wants to knit socks, THIS IS YOUR VIDEO SERIES.
I started knitting two years ago. I make blankets, hats mittens, slippers my dream was to make socks I've never been able to understand any patterns then, I found you on TH-cam wow! You are the best Marley I can't wait to try my first socks.
I have knitted with DPNs before, but I must say that your method for beginning is brilliant!! Marly, you are an awesome and patient teacher. I can surely learn from you!
Thanks Marly! I love knitting socks...9 inch circs, magic loop, 2 circulars, single and 2 at a time. DPNS have held me at bay. You make it look LESS complicated! I will give it a go. Your tutorials are always thorough and easy to follow.
I remember watching my piano teacher knit socks and thinking, "I will never be able to do that." Yet here I am, on my way to a pair of socks! Such an awesome way to pass quarantine! Thank you!
I have to say that this is the best tutorial I have ever had. Having a new visual impairment that makes reading knitting patterns very difficult whereas before the impairment, no problem, now with you I had such ease and sense of accomplishment. So happy! Plus the recipe idea wow. Bravo
Thank you so much. I have tried at least four other patterns and videos starting with the cuff and the way they were done my work was always inside out and really messy looking so far my work is coming along perfectly and your instructions are very clear and east to follow I'm a crocheter and have only been knitting for about a week and your video has really helped me understand how sock making should go and actually knit them correctly. I'm really excited for your next video.
I want to knit socks but I am not experienced I was wondering about DPNs or small circulars I watched the videos and I am encouraged Thank you! I will never know unless I try!
I amazed in how you did the cast on. And when I saw how you did the knitting these socks I thought I would try it. I love the way you do the cast on with the double pointed needles. It is easy and relaxing. I was searching for a video that teaches to knit a pair of socks that was easy. You are the only the one I have found.
Marly I have watched 4 different classes on Craftsy for sock knitting. Your tutorial is by far the best. Very easy technique and as always you are a great teacher.
I’m just doing my first DPN socks. I’ve only made one pair before using the magic loop. They came out fairly well for a first pair. I did start over once and my first sock ribbing is by looking great. You’re a wonderful teacher. Once I finish 2” I’ll start the second sock as you suggested!👍🏻👏🏻👏🏻🧶🧶🧡🧡
I wish these videos were around I first started knitting years ago. You break it down so nicely and give a subtle mantra to work by. Thank you so much, for these videos.
I have knitted socks on double pointed needles before, mostly tube socks without gussets, so know how to use dpn fairly well; however, really enjoyed the cast on variation, will try that, because I do sometimes get ladders. Your slow and explicit instructions are well received. Thank you!
Wonderful tutorial, thank you for clear instructions, I had tried so many times to use dpns, within 20 min of your demonstration I was finally successful. Very impressed by your teaching style, very professional. Thanks Marly
Thank you for your videos. As a new knitter I always wanted to knit socks but it was way too complicated. You made it easy to understand. I’m getting the hang of it. I had to rip it out a few times but I see it as a learning process. I have the first cuff done and I’m working on the second sock. Again I wanna thank you,
Marley you are SO awesome! This is my first attempt at knitting anything and I find that all your helpful hints and attention to details are VERY reassuring I can make it through this. I crochet too but have ALWAYS failed at socks. Thank you for taking the time to create this KAL!!!
Thank you, MarlyBird. I've been teaching myself (from online resources). This video has been very helpful getting me started on my first pair of socks. Who knew that I was knitting inside out? I only had to restart 3 times. It definitely pays to pay attention to details when you start.
Thank You so much for this! Dpns have intimadated me for a long time. This I can do.. You are truly the best teacher. I have followed other Kals u have had and loved them! Thank u again!
My early time of knitting socks on dpns would have been so much easier had I only seen this series first. So glad I found it to make things easier in the future.
Oh My Goodness !! I Have Been Doing It All Wrong 😬😝😜😣😖,.. I Was Doing A Sock Cuff Down From Another Pattern., And Was Doing It Inside Out... Oh My Stars.... I Had To Rip It All Out... That's Why I Never Could Do A Sock That Turn's Out Right.. Shucks... I Thank You So Much For This Tutorial.... I Was Doing It Wrong... It Got To The Point That I Didn't Want To Knit Socks Again... I Came Across To Your Video... Thanks So Much... This Has Put A Light To My Problem...Thumbs Up.. You Are Awesome Teacher.... 😊😁☺😁😊☺👍👍
I know you posted these videos awhile ago but I just saw and love them. So easy to follow. I’m a fairly knee knitter and these vids are fantastic. I like how it’s broken down into sections. For some reason the DPNs I have only have 4. I need to get more.
Holy cow! You just clarified every problem I've had attempting to use DPN's here... So amazing! I fought the gap between the dpn's, the twisting fiddlyness of them.. I can DO this now! Doing the happy dance over here, thank you Marly!
I love this video series! I've used this pattern to make my husband two pairs of socks (turns out he's got skinny feet, so the first pair was waaaaay too loose, but the second fits great because of the options you recommended in the second video) and I just finished making myself a pair. Thank you so much for doing this! I recommend it to anyone I see on Facebook who is nervous about making their first pair :D
fantastic! I am so happy you enjoyed making the socks with me. Yes, the mens size for this simple pattern is rather large but the good news is it is completely adjustable!
I have a bit of a request. After the new year I'm going to make a video recommending TH-camrs and their videos that I really like. I don't do tutorials, but my plan is to answer frequently asked questions about knitting and crochet. I want to recommend you and this video in particular. My channel is new and small - I only have 3 subscribers right now and one of them is my husband - but I was wondering if you had any other videos you would like for me to recommend??? CC Closed Caption. I am on my 3rd pair of socks. This series helped so much. I just saw on Face Book about helping with closed caption help. I love this series and was going to start with this one. If there is another, better one, just let me know.
Marly, that stitch marker part is absolutely stunning! I've accidentally knit inside out before after setting the work down and not knowing which direction was which (causing the project to have to be restarted). Making sure the stitch marker is on the outside of the work is an absolutely brilliant way to prevent that. Thank you so much!

I bought a package of tiny hair rubber bands and kept one one each end to keep the yarn from slipping off. Someone suggested using bamboo needles and I was ecstatic with the difference. thank you so much, have finally knitted using dpn, i am only at the 2nd step but I have achieved something I have trying to do for over a year, ,I think I need to learn to knit continental knitting as it looks much easier,
This cast on is amazing! I promise I’m going to diligently follow your instruction and not go off on my own. Haven’t started yet because I kind of overdid today and my hands hurt too much to do anything. Tomorrow is another day! Love you!! 💕💕💕
Thank you for teaching us to knit, you do a wonderful job,I have made sweather and ponchos all your free patterns Christmas was so nice everyone loved my gifts,so again thank ya.
This was amazingly helpful. Every single tip given helped me learn to use my dpns. I feel very confident going into the next step in making these socks 😃
Question! I made these last yr and they turned out great! BUT now I want to make them again, but with sock yarn...How do I make the change?? Needle size and yarn size are now different so how does one calculate this??
Thanks for the reply...you are really out there reading these...COOL! I will continue to work along, although I am still on step 1, attempt five. I will get there. Thank you so much for offering such a great tutorial! @@MarlyBird
Hi...I love this tutorial. I plan to use it in my 2nd pr of socks. Currently working a pr of ankle socks. This is my 1st pair and yes, using 4 double needles. My goal us to make socks matching the quilts that I make. I'm sure I will have questions...thanks
Hi Marly! I am doing it! I am doing it! I have half the cuff done with NO ladders! I NEVER thought I could get this. By the way it took my 20 times cast on and first round to figure out I was casting on wrong with the tail on back not front. Thank you!
WOW! THe only reason I would cuss is that I didn't know how darn easy a cast on could be! THat has been the biggest pain in my butt when using dpn's for newborn hats. THis is my first sock attempt. THanks for making it so clear!
Marley, love your enthusiasm and pleasantness. I need some help though. I have made socks on dpns previously but wanted to learn the magic Loop method. Found a tutorial by another TH-camr and was making 2 socks on separate needles. Got down to picking up and reducing stitches and got all screwed up. Had to unravel and rewind 4 socks twice. Wish knew about your lifeline tip before that. I am following your video on dpns now but would like to learn another way. Do you have a video or instructions for the gusset on top down socks on a circular needle? I just love to knit. Something about the feel of those needles in your hands. My first knitting project was a cabled cardigan. Lol. I know. Kinda foolish and challenging but it came out great. For some reason I have been blessed with perfect tension.
Still waiting for my Chic Sheep yarn, but this is so encouraging for me. I don't feel so intimidated, at this point. Now once I start, we'll see. I guess if I had to ask a question it would be how do I know how much yarn to use for the long tail stitch count? That confuses me.
Hello Marley Bird. Thank you for this video. I think a pattern that is top down and with 4 needles would be easier for me as a beginner. Do you have a pattern with a video for that style?
I have knitted socks for many years. I am a loose knitter so to help with that because i am already at a 2.5mm needle i pearl2/ knit 2 in the front of the sock or all the way around and pearl 2 /knit 2 on the front of the foot.
You will have to decide on the gauge of the yarn, needles and stitch pattern. Once you know that you can use that measurement per inch multiplied by the size of the sock you want.
just found this video as I want to knit my first pair of socks and you are excellent. I only have size 4mm (6US I believe) DPNs - will it make a huge difference? thanks!
Hi there, I was wondering if I can used fingering yarn and dpns for your pattern? Thanks.
6 ปีที่แล้ว
Hi. I have downloaded the pattern and I don't understand your shoe chart on the 3rd page. I wear size 6.5 and my foot heel-to-toe lenght is 23 cm. In the chart the shoe size for 23 cm is 12. It is impossible! Can you please explain? Thank you.
I’m a little confused about having my knitting needles facing me. Because I followed everything to a tee but it seems as though I am knitting inside out. I’ve restarted several times to make sure I am knitting with my needles pointing toward me and I can’t figure it out...

Marly Bird how many inches are the double pointed needles? Sorry if I missed that part. Thank you.
@@dolphyday Usually between 6 & 8"
Please don’t ever take this tutorial away, I still. Need it after 3 years your set up can be used on regular sock knit yarn. Love it 🥰

I believe laying it out on the table is the best way to go especially for those starting out on double points. I personally love them.
Thank you so much. This was a revelation. Have been unsuccessfully trying to join in the round for 2 weeks 😂 big smile on my face now.
That’s great!!!!

Again I wanna thank you,
Marly you are an EXCELLENT teacher and I am so grateful for your tutorials.
first time ever I've seen someone show how to cast on this way, I'm so glad you did, it's sooo much easier. thank you
Thank you so much for your very descriptive tutorials! This is my very first time with DPN’s and with your instruction I nailed it first try!!

Holy cow! You just clarified every problem I've had attempting to use DPN's here... So amazing! I fought the gap between the dpn's, the twisting fiddlyness of them.. I can DO this now! Doing the happy dance over here, thank you Marly!
Great instructions as usual Marly! This is my first time knitting with your yarn. Looking forward to the finished product!
Marley, you're a great teacher! I've had a fear of dpns and sock knitting for forever. I'm now willing to give it a try. Thank you!
I’m trying but I have finger weight yarn so it’s a little hard to do thank you so much
You’re welcome.
I love how you teach. Thank you.

Giving it a try. Thank you Marly! I hold my yarn in my left hand and having a difficult time doing that first round..... but not gonna give up!

Ice been looking for someone to do a video tutorial on these socks .And I'm so excited I get to follow your tutorial .So here comes my new project .
Love your knitting tutorials. Funny thing is I learned first on dpns. I struggle with circulars. And magic loop? Forget it! 😂
Thank you so much, you are correct it’s my first time knitting 🧶 on DPN needles ! And lucky me found best tutorial ever! Xx 😘
My first practice socks were on cheap metal dp needles. In my inexperience, they were a pain in the butt. I bought a package of tiny hair rubber bands and kept one one each end to keep the yarn from slipping off. Someone suggested using bamboo needles and I was ecstatic with the difference. The yarn stays place so much better. No rubber bands any more 😊
TY SSSSOOOO much. This is the easiest cast on using DPN that I've ever seen.
Fantastic tutorial on dpn!!!!
thank you so much, have finally knitted using dpn, i am only at the 2nd step but I have achieved something I have trying to do for over a year, ,I think I need to learn to knit continental knitting as it looks much easier,
U are so super talented fantastic video
Thank you so much.
you did a beautiful job on that sock it looks almost like a store bought sock.
Wow this is so helpful I now know what I have been doing wrong when trying to knit with dpns
I’ve been knitting socks with dpn’s and I never thought to do when joining! I did lay my needles on the table but they used to flop around! Brilliant!
This cast on is amazing! I promise I’m going to diligently follow your instruction and not go off on my own. Haven’t started yet because I kind of overdid today and my hands hurt too much to do anything. Tomorrow is another day! Love you!! 💕💕💕
What a good video. So clear and concise. I’m going to cast on tonight and not be afraid. Thank you.

This was amazingly helpful. Every single tip given helped me learn to use my dpns. I feel very confident going into the next step in making these socks 😃
Question! I made these last yr and they turned out great! BUT now I want to make them again, but with sock yarn...How do I make the change?? Needle size and yarn size are now different so how does one calculate this??
did you watch the last video and look at the blog post about it? I talk about just that ;-)
This is a great series. Would you consider putting it out on dvd??
No. I think having it free on TH-cam is best for me now :)
Thank you!
Stellar way to show a circle cast on for any pattern that uses one!👍
Thank you....This has got to be the best cast on I have ever seen. Love it! :)
You seem amazingly patient !!! You are the best !
Thank you
I just recently found your videos and finally completed my sock! Can you cut down this pattern for children 3 and 5? Thank you for your excellence!
if you look at the pattern on my website (I think in week 6) I show you how to change the fit of the pattern for other sizes.
Hi I love your tutorials and made my first pair of socks and gifted them to my friend, do you think you could do a toe up pattern too please?
yes, this summer I will be doing a toe up KAL
@@MarlyBird You are my "go to gal" for knitting and I am thrilled to hear this about the toe up sock!! Thank you so much Ms. Marly!! You are awesome!!
This is a top down pattern with double points.
Have you ever done 2 in 1 one inside the other? if you have please do a video on it>
Excellent video !!!! I can’t wait to watch the others. I just may be able to knit socks finally thanks to your great vid.
I have knitted socks for many years.
I am a loose knitter so to help with that because i am already at a 2.5mm needle i pearl2/ knit 2 in the front of the sock or all the way around and pearl 2 /knit 2 on the front of the foot.
thank you Marly and I never know how to used double point needles
If I am using a smaller yarn size, can I just make more than 64 cast ons as I need? Thank you for the great explenation!
Thanks.
Been watch ing the video on my first socks love the long tail cast on got that but can't seem to get the rib right
my best piece of advice is to just keep practicing.
