    I can always count on this channel for good, concise knitting help. I’ve found the magic loop method so much easier than DPNs. Thank you!

    You taught me to knit socks and now I am totally addicted. I made the first 2 pairs using DPNs and your video then switched to magic loop and made 4 more pairs with little needles and fine yarn! Your tutorials are excellent and I'm doing something I never thought I could because you gave me the confidence to try. Thanks so much for sharing your expertise and talent for teaching.

    Almost 40 years knitting and I've never been able to accomplish socks. After discovering the magic loop method, I want to try again. I have watched many videos on this, but yours has been the only one that I can follow. Today I am going to start my first pair of socks that I feel confident I will be able to finish. Thank you Staci for explaining it so I can understand. I'll post you a picture when I'm done.

    Watching this series of videos I learned how to knit socks on magic loop. I tried so many other times but it seemed so confusing. You took the confusion out. Thank you so much!!!!!

  • @verypinkknits

    @lisarayone It depends. For circular needles, I prefer Addis, and for double-points, I prefer wood or bamboo. Inexpensive aluminum circular needles are really difficult to work with, as you discovered. Addi and Knit Picks circulars have really nice cords and joins.

    OMG I cannot believe I am knitting magic loop socks. This is the first video that I watch that I could easily follow thank you so much no more of my straight needles falling out of my sock knitting .. Yay!!! Iam sooooo excited..

    Thank you! My favorite circular needles are Addi turbos, and they also make an interchangeable set called Addi Clicks. I find them to be the smoothest, fastest needles.

    @j2cool2 That shawl is called "Sexy Shawl" (I didn't name it), and it is my own design. The pattern appears in the book "Crazy Aunt Purl's Drunk, Divorced and Covered in Cat Hair", and that's the only place it appears since I sold the rights to it. The book is available on Amazon. :)

  • @verypinkknits
    @verypinkknits  12 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Yes - other brands of circular needles have more flexible cords. I always stick to two brands of circular needles - Addis and Knit Picks. Both of these companies make really nice needles, with perfect "joins" and flexible cords.

  • @verypinkknits
    @verypinkknits  13 ปีที่แล้ว

    @halep09 Yes - normally I will just consciously loosen up and not pull my cast-on so tightly. I've seen other people use a larger needle for casting on, or holding two needles together. Hope that helps!

  • @verypinkknits
    @verypinkknits  12 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    Yes - absolutely. If you knit through this pattern using magic loop, you'll learn the skills you need to knit any sock pattern this way. Then you'll have a choice as to whether you want to use DPNs or magic loop. I like both methods, and I go back and forth. :)

  • @verypinkknits
    @verypinkknits  14 ปีที่แล้ว

    @AmyW1205 One hank of Cascade 220 (or 200 yards of any worsted-weight yarn) is enough to knit the whole pair. In fact, you'll have plenty left over!

  • @verypinkknits
    @verypinkknits  13 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    @darlineken You're welcome! Thank you for the nice note!

  • @verypinkknits
    @verypinkknits  13 ปีที่แล้ว

    @SHAGGYLINUS Since you're using the yarn and needle size that I recommend and getting a much bigger sock, my guess is that you're a loose knitter. You'll need to go down a needle size (or more) to get gauge. You want to get 5.5 stitches per inch. Hope that helps!

  • @verypinkknits
    @verypinkknits  13 ปีที่แล้ว

    @noodletech30 You need to make sure that the first couple of stitches (after the cast on) are pulled pretty tightly. Even if there is a bit of extra yarn there, it will magically disappear after a few more rounds. Everyone worries about this part. Try knitting for a few more rounds and see what happens. :)

    I’m so happy I’ve been trying to knit with double needle for 2 days and they looked horrible and then today I started with magic loop and my first try the sock is already looking like an actual sock! And with magic loop I can knit harder which I am practicing, thank you for this I will watch the other parts to finish the sock but I’m just so happy my first sock 😄

  • @KevKevAllen
    @KevKevAllen 13 ปีที่แล้ว

    I LOVE THE MAGIC LOOP METHOD! But it should be noted that you can only do the magic loop with a LONG circular needle and one with a soft plastic joining works best. I I have bamboo needles with surgical tubing joining and its WONDERFUL because it's so limp and flexible!

  • @verypinkknits
    @verypinkknits  12 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    I suggest trying different circular needles. If you are using the circular needles from a craft or fabric store, those are usually stiff, unruly cords. Nicer needles (like Addis or Knit Picks) have softer cords, and they make magic loop much easier to work. So it might not be your technique that is giving you trouble, but your needles. :)

    I have what might appear to be a completely random question, do you have a video on how to make the shaw in the background? It really caught my attention. • @teruchuu
    @teruchuu 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

    I've tried following along with other turorials and got all mixed up. Both showed the needles facing to the right after joining the round, but one had the working yarn on the back needle (Mimi from Pastiche Knitwear) and the other had the working yarn on the front needle (NimbleNeedles). I followed the former video first, but after several rows, I found that I was going back and forth on the same side, so one half was longer than the other. I ripped back and tried again from scratch, following the second tutorial video mentioned above. I had the working yarn on the front needle, and soon found (after the ribbing was finished and I started the stockinette rows) that the knit stitches were on the inside of the tube, and purl bumps were on the outside. I Googled this, and learned that I had turned my work inside-out somehow at some point, and to fix it, I just needed to flip the tube the other direction so that the purl bumps are on the inside. I did this, and now my working yarn is on the back needle and my stockinette is proceeding swimmingly. What the heck did I do wrong in the very beginning?? I can't seem to figure it out! Any help would be much appreciated so that my second sock has a smoother start 😂 Thanks so much! I love your channel!! ❤❤❤

    • @verypinkknits
      @verypinkknits  5 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      This is likely what happened - when you had very few rounds knit, it was hard to tell that your work had flipped inside out, and you didn't notice for a while. This video explains more...the title says "DPNs", but it applies to any circular knitting. th-cam.com/video/r0psocAR3Q0/w-d-xo.html

    • @verypinkknits
      @verypinkknits  10 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Julia - lifelines work the same regardless of what you're knitting. Just take some thin scrap yarn, a tapestry needle, and string the yarn through all of the stitches that are currently on the needle. Then knit on, as usual.

    I have a somewhat related question for you.
    I've noticed my gauge changes when knitting in magic loop vs DPNs, even when using the same size needle. Is that normal? Or do you think it could be due to the fact that my circulars are metal and my DPNs are wood?

    I really appreciate all your videos as I have learned so much. I am confused with the Magic Loop. I have watched other videos for sock patterns. My confusion is doing the cast on which ever method, turn the needles pointing to the right. Yarn on back needle pull that needle long and knit. Other videos show yarn to the back and they pull the bottom needle. What is the correct way and how can some patterns, videos show the opposite? It is so confusing and am trying to learn the correct way.

    • @verypinkknits

      I don't know of these other patterns/videos you're describing, but the way I teach it is always consistent. We always start in the Magic Loop Starting Position, and pull out the back needle, which becomes the empty needle in your right hand.

    • @verypinkknits
      @verypinkknits  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      I don't recommend trying to adapt a sock pattern to use a different weight of yarn (you pretty much have to start from scratch with a new pattern). Every time I try to join the working yarn seem to end up on the inside of the loop? Shouldn't it be on the outside ?

    • @verypinkknits
      @verypinkknits  10 ปีที่แล้ว

      Julia - I'm not sure what you mean. Are you talking about the first round after the cast-on, when you're joining in-the-round? If that is the case, just flip the yarn over the needle so it's coming from outside the "tube" of knitting.

    I really like the way you do your long tail cast on. Could you do it more slowly, because you did it so fast I couldn't catch it.

    How do you knit harder? I tend to knit too loose it makes my socks so ugly 😅

    • @verypinkknits
      @verypinkknits  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Getting good tension takes practice, if your stitches are loose, you might want to tug on each finished stitch to tighten it up. Here is my video on getting good tension: th-cam.com/video/sK11ZFf2CnA/w-d-xo.html

    Thank you for the note. My website is up and running fine, but if you are using Avast antivirus software, you will see a false-positive virus warning. There is no virus, and I have tried and tried to get the company to remove the warning, to no avail.
    You can still follow me on Ravelry, Facebook, and TH-cam. Or if you like, you can send a trouble ticket to your antivirus software company, encouraging them to fix the problem.

    I am frustrated that the stitches keep falling off the end with these needles. There are four needles and they are short . . . . am I the only one having this problem?

    • @verypinkknits
      @verypinkknits  11 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Jeannie - I recommend using double-pointed needles of at least 7 inches in length, and made of wood or bamboo. That will help you keep the stitches from falling off! Short needles and metal needles, often slide out, especially if you are a loose knitter. Hope that helps!

      Not very hard - I spell out the steps in the tutorial, and if you're comfortable with the basics of knitting (knit stitch, purl stitch, basic increases and decreases) moving on to socks isn't difficult.

    Drink more wine! Just kidding (kind of). Your stitches are probably tight because you're focused on learning a new thing. Watch my video called "Knitting Help - Help for Tight Knitters" for some pointers. Good luck!
