    I have been knitting socks using the Magic Loop method for many years, and I just learned something! Thanks for the tip about putting the first cast-on stitch onto the other needle and then passing the last stitch over in order to make a tighter joining.

      Its not just a tighter join you lose that annoying bump where the join is.

    thank you so much. I've watched so many videos re the magic loop and finally I succeeded. maybe it's that extra stitch that makes all the difference.

    4:25 It's a Möbius strip! I kind of want to learn to knit now to make a Kleinbottle. I learned to crochet to make hyperbolic planes based on the work by crafter/mathematician Daina Taimana, and while I'm sure I could crochet a Kleinbottle, knitting seems to give more uniform results as well as being easier to make a material that looks the same on both sides which is kind of important if you want to make a single sided surface.

    Brilliant! Have knit sereral pairs of socks on dpn, then knit a sweater. It was tedious going back and forth and I still haven't sewn it up!! SO...I decided to knit the body in the round...works brilliantly (just split onto 2 needles when I reached armpit and had to decrease for the raglan) and now I'm on to the arms but couldn't work out how to use my long cables on the interchangeable needles with the smaller circumference of the arm....this video has shown me...HURRAH! THANK YOU xx 🌈

    THANK YOU! You were the only one to show me how to split the stitches up between the two needles. I know it's silly but yeah that's the one thing I couldn't get haha!

    I’ve been knitting for almost 20 years, and I use long circs for small diameter knitting, but I’ve always kept 1/3 of the sts on my left needle, 1/3 on my right needle, and 1/3 in the middle of the cable, with two loops poking out in the middle of the work. I guess I’ve been doing it wrong my whole life! This might be why I still get ladders.

  • @lindamcneely
    @lindamcneely 6 ปีที่แล้ว +5

    I have never made socks so I can see where this would be a definite advantage doing two at a time. but for anything else I cannot see why using circular needles would not be just as easy. I use circular needles for making hats all the time and do not have to struggle with pushing the needles back into position.

      @Pluviophile218 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I have always knitted 2 socks at a time on 2 circular needles. I haven't tried this yet. I am wondering how it works when it's time to turn the heel. I have just mastered that on 2 circulars.

    Maybe I find DPS’s less fiddley than the magic loop, for me, is because I’m a picker, ie continental knitter?

    • @juliamartin4141
      @juliamartin4141 6 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Kimmy Smiley I am a picker too and I like magic loop as well or better than dpns. Mostly because I like doing two at a time and thus have no “second sock syndrome”. Plus I like my ChiaoGoo mini set of needles! LOL

    Any tips on getting started? For me, the most frustrating part of knitting socks is after the cast on, getting the bumps lined up and keeping an even tension. It looks so easy in the demos with bulky yarn but it’s hard to control the fingering weight.

  • @bikrgran
    @bikrgran 7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    First, let me say that the new look (desk) looks so "business-y", like a news desk. I really liked the easy chairs, the relaxed atmosphere, previously. Secondly, I LOVE this sweater! One question...if you are using non-washable yarn, then does that mean dry cleaners? OR hand wash, gently, then dry flat. So where do you find a flat surface big enough, and "porous" enough for air to get to the underside, to dry? Can't wait for the sock show. LOVE knitting socks, but just realized, if you wear pants, and shoes, how do you show them off????

    • @rosteve3872
      @rosteve3872 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Linda M they sell clear tennis shoes that many wear with pants lol also depending on temp in the house or outside...drying isn't an issue unless it's humid then it may take longer.

    Ok here's my question, I got the part of knitting one sock at a time could b 24" but what actual size needle should I get for asking socks?? 2.25 or 2.75??? No one has answered this question and it's annoying to me because I want to make socks!!! Ty

    • @juliamartin4141
      @juliamartin4141 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      bxgal347 I was looking for my needle gauge to give it to you in mm but it’s not where I thought it was! Anyway, I use a US size 1, some use a US size 2 or 3. I think it depends on how dense you want the fabric.
      I use size 1 because I made socks on either a 2or3, (I can’t remember which one) and I didn’t like the feel of them. I felt every purl bump on the inside of the socks.
      I would recommend that you do a couple of swatches, in the round, to measure your stitches and rows per inch. In the round really does make a difference because you are only using the knit stitch, where as in a flat stockinette, you use both knit and purl stitches. Most people don’t have the same gauge purling as knitting.
      Good luck!
