    I really like your approach. "How much emotional time do I need to do the 1 min task".
    It might work on tasks where I can sort of estimate the emotional work needed - but what I am still missing, is how much emotional _capacity_ I might have on any given day. Can't plan for that.
    But perhaps some "emotional weight" number with the time estimate.

      Yes! That's a great idea on emotional weight number. I find it very annoying that I can't always predict my emotional capacity. Or I think i'll have a lot then something derails me. But I guess part of this is having to go with the flow and accept the fluctuating emotional capacity 😊

    Newly diagnosed with ADHD and I can relate with so much from this channel! I have never been able to put how I've felt into words but you do it so well! I have a difficult time getting over my shame of medicating, but your videos about having somewhat of the same feeling made me realize that there's nothing wrong with taking medication to solve a health problem. Thank you so much, ADHD medication and your videos have seriously changed my life for the better.

    I've found organising my daily schedule on the smartwatch works pretty well because it's always with me on my wrist :)
    Edit: But any little crisis can dismantle all of my good habits soo 🤷

    This gives me another way to articulate and express the fact that I know brushing my teeth takes 5 minutes but the feelings I get contemplating it make me think I’m gonna be doing it all day. Thank you as always!! Also, I liked your bodily illustration of resistance lol. It’s always nice to relate.

    I’m going to try this now with the email that I procrastinated for weeks. Weeks!

    So I guess it's good to double the estimate of time to every task just to be sure :D because for the task that we like, we underestimate and it takes longer and for task that we like we overestimate and it takes less but feels like ages and we need to rest after lol. Also for me, starting a bigger task when I have only a small slot often makes me late because once I start I can't stop so it's not the greatest idea 😅

    I feel like my internet/gaming addiction is making my time blindness worse by badly overestimating tasks, my brain *really* doesn't want to do the task so it tells me that it'll require one trillion years of absolute boringness to open the mails or clean the dishes... 😞😴

    Hey Rachel, I really like the idea of emotionally-weighted time blocking. I've tried time blocking/calendar blocking before, but as soon as I get behind, I just figure it's time to throw out the baby & bathwater. I do enjoy the planning part though, lol, maybe it's like fantasizing about having all those things done.
    Anyway, I have an important question. What does the bottom of your shirt say???

      There's no feeling quite as satisfying as the planning part hehe My t-shirt says 'if you can't see the sunshine... be the sunshine' 🌞

    Hi Rachel! I've been trying to figure out what the difference is between "consequences" and "pressure because we really have to get it done." Isn't that pressure related to us not wanting to deal with the negative consequences of inaction? And if so, what is the difference between a neurotypical brain and a neurodivergent one in this case?

    • @rachdoesyoutube
      @rachdoesyoutube  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      This is such an interesting question!! I guess 'pressure related to us not wanting to deal with the negative consequences of inaction' is indeed being motivated by consequence. I wonder if it's the difference between an emotional consequence and a 'logical' one. E.g. I want to get something done because I don't want to let someone down or feel shame (emotion), but if you said to me 'the consequence of not doing this is that you'll be worse off in the long run' I know that's true but I can't feel that as an immediate emotional consequence. In terms of neurotypical vs neurodivergent, I think neurotypical people do still struggle with those long term more intangible consequences but in ND brains if the emotional element isn't there it can be impossible to do it. (I think so anyway, I forget that despite thinking I had a neurotypical brain for most of my life, I obviously never really have haha)
