It really is the best gravel state we have here hands down. Quebec is on our list to visit soon. Went many times when I was a kid but haven't been for over 25 years. How's the gravel there?

They say the grass is always greener. I mean Québec has some fantastic roads to cycle in its own merit. Where I'm located I can plan day trips that involve cycling winding roads, cutting through a class 4 road as a short cut up to the Notch on Mt Mansfield then back down into bike paths and parks for quick naps before making a round trip back to the house.
Come on up! Great to hear from you as always. The Whites are having a gorgeous spring\summer so far. Everything is blooming sooo beautifully this year.

thanks for sharing this. i used to live in vermont (burlington and bolton valley), and spent a good amount of time in new england. and i used to peddle quite a bit, but, i got lazy and i'm trying to motivate myself to peddle more than goin to grab a six pack and some cold cuts. really miss the beauty of this part of the country, so it's awesome seeing it from this perspective and it's motivating me to peddle more. really love the pace of your videos. got a new sub.
thank for such a nice, motivating comment. I know that when I feel unmotivated and still go out for a ride or even a simple walk, that those are the times that I'm most glad I did and in doing so I think it tips the balance more and more into being motivated and staying consistent. I have a saying for myself that maybe could help you get out and pedal more: "Action Creates Motivation." I used to think it was the other way around. It's simple and effective self talk and the saying alone motivates me. You got this man! The desire for you to pedal is there, do it for whatever reason inspires you and put it into action. Grow that desire into a consistent healthy habit. Maybe a gravel trip to New England is in order😉 - Much Love & Adventure
Great to see you back on the bikes You make your rides so relaxing to watch you have learned the fine art living in the moment and taking your time to enjoy Thanks for sharing!!!
I know gravel and cycling in general, means different things for everybody but the scenery, the people, and those little moments of presence are what it's all about for us...and maybe the food and coffee stops along the way. In the summer ever ride needs to end at a swim spot too. Great to hear from you btw.

Just rode from Swanton VT to Bethel ME with my son. Just under 200 miles on the LVRT and xNH Adventure Trail. Amazing journey. Northern New England is the best for gravel, for sure.
Great trip! What was your favorite section? There really is no place like new england. Have you done the Lamoille Valley Trail yet? Another beautiful trip worth doing for you and your son
Did you do the LVRT in one day or break it up since that's around 100 miles on its own? Hardwick into St. Johnsbury is really pretty, and mostly a long gradual stretch of downhill which makes for a nice reward with gorgeous views and nature.
We took a shuttle to the northern terminus and rode south and did it as an overnight. And yes that trail has sort of a sneaky elevation gain once you hit Hardwick.
Instant subscribe. First time viewer and it took about 10 seconds to realise I needed to subscribe to your channel. Wholesome, sense of humour, personable, good natured, endearing, enthusiastic, passionate, etc. All makes it feel very familiar, despite having never watched your videos before. Beautiful scenery and commentary. Hope to see a lot more gravel riding and bikepacking content this summer. I'm about to spend part of my weekend getting stuck into your video catalogue 😊 I hope everybody has a lovely weekend 💚 love from South Africa 🇿🇦
Well that was one of the nicest, most complimentary comments we've received. All the way from South Africa! A place we've never been but hope to visit someday. It looks incredibly beautiful. Thank you so much for feeling that our content is worthy of your sub and your time. Hmmm, a longer episode might be in the works soon. We tend to make the 10-15 minute episodes because our channel analytics say that's where viewers are done watching but we have a short bikepacking trip soon and I'm thinking to experiment with an extended length version instead of multiple shorter episodes. I actually enjoy making longer ones because I feel like I can make a better paced video that suits the overall vibe of the channel. I really appreciate that feedback. It gave me the little extra push to try it. Much Love from New Hampshire, USA.
I was just being hyperbolic 😅 but also would totally watch a video of over an hour from you two. I'm no content creator or TH-camr, so I can understand you have to try work to match the analytics and algorithm. I can't speak for everyone, but I would definitely watch a longer video. This one felt like it ended waaaay too soon 😢😅 but I appreciated it nonetheless. Seriously gorgeous scenery and overall vibe 💚 I've never been to the North East, New England or New Hampshire but from what I've seen it looks absolutely beautiful and idyllic. My best friend lives in New York, so when I visit him and his wife (who is from Vermont) I'll make sure to take time to head up your way. South Africa certainly has some stunning natural beauty. Loads of great gravel biking (or any type of biking) to be done. We'll welcome you with open arms and hospitality if you ever visit 😊 I'm in Durban, Kwa-Zulu Natal if you're interested in seeing what it's like around here. The Drakensberg and Midlands of Natal have some phenomenal landscapes, culture and dirt roads. Plenty of crystal clear and clean rivers and lakes to take a post ride dip in too! Enjoy the rest of your weekend 😊
Please do let us know if you visit this way. We'd love to show you around the mountain and rural regions of New England in general. New Hampshire, Maine, Vermont and western Massachusetts is very idyllic and each state very different from the other despite being interconnected. The small towns are what make New England special in my opinion. There's just something very comforting about them. Everywhere feels like home. We've been wanting to visit south Africa for a while now. We have a friend that goes often and says how incredible it is. The landscapes seem so dramatic and vast. Have a great rest of your weekend. Next video should be out by Wednesday this week.
@@ThatMountainMoment My wife and I did the Muddy Onion a few weeks ago as well as a tour of North and South Hero Islands for my 60th birthday weekend. Our base was the North Hero House which I would highly recommend. Thank you for sharing your vlogs. Both Ellen and I enjoy watching your adventures. You both inspire us to get out and enjoy the beauty of New England. Can't really explain why, but Vermont has a very special place in both our hearts, and we get up there as much as life will allow!
Muddy Onion is a great route. How was the Hero island area for riding? Vermint is just one of those places that once you experience it's pastoral feel, it's got you for life. We feel the same way. It's hard to explain because it evokes an indescribable feeling. Especially by bike.
@@ThatMountainMoment North and South Hero, along with Isle Le Motte were quiet, pastoral roads with VERY LITTLE traffic. I would highly recommend this location for a getaway weekend!

That is possibly the best single day ride I have seen on YT. Def going to add that one to the list for this yr. How long was it? VT is so much like Ontario w varied scenes, swimming spots and varied terrain. ❤
I have two versions of that ride. One short, one long. Both are Awesome! The long one includes the town of Corinth which is where the original Movie Beetlejuice and the upcoming sequel was filmed. We rode there last year while they were filming and rolled right through the town while it was a movie set. So cool! Short👇 ridewithgps.com/routes/43528833 Long👇 ridewithgps.com/routes/47173993
I could get used to that 🚴♂️😎 I plan on biking Kancamagus Highway in August.. love the Nature Bars.. I usually get Blueberry & Apple Oatmeal Crumble.. You make a great point.. how the scenery is changing every Mile 😁🍀🌞
@@ThatMountainMoment I would like to leave from the visitor center in Lincoln.. head towards North Conway.. but it depends on my ride.. my sister has a place in N. Conway.. maybe I’ll do both ways.. depends on time I have.. going to a Family Wedding 🙂
Surlys are sweet. We both have Salsa Journeyman with a few different upgrades from stock. 7 years old now and I'm amazed at how well they've held up to all the mileage and abuse of being fully loaded when bikepacking and the terrain they've seen. They changed the model slightly and it's now called the Journeyer. The new Kona Ouroboros looks sweet but far out of our price range.
@@ThatMountainMoment Any Great Cafe's, Brewery's or Bike shops I should checkout in Lincoln, NH.. Looks like you like winter sports. My Dad has a Sled shed in Norton VT we snowmoble 4 months a year..
Born and raised New Englander so winters are just part of life ha ha but we xc ski, backcountry ski, snowboard, and winter run. The spin bike gets a little use too. Maybe a fat bike if we have the extra money to buy one someday. We do enjoy the snow but always ready for spring when that time comes 🙂
It's on our list to explore Maine more often. We have a two video mini series up near Acadia on the carriage roads and the Schoodic Peninsula. Love maine and what they've recently done with the AMC to promote the gravel riding. Maybe you could give us a gravel tour and we could get a ride in.
Oh yeah! Carrabasset has some awesome mountain bike trails too. Haven't been up that way in a couple years. We'll let you know when we plan a trip up there. That would be sweet!
You guys ever get hunrgry in the woodsville area. Pop into jamie lynns kitchen wedneday-monday good food and you can check out the ammonoosuc rail trail if you havent already
@@ThatMountainMoment we may see eachother out there someday then. And they've got a decent seafood selection, and all their burgers are good. I havent tried them yet, but i hear the bangin shrimp tacos are a hit as well. Its just off the trail across the main road, next to the gym. (The Railyard i think is the name) booth, bar, and patio seating!
We both use the WTB Volt saddle on across all our bikes. It's a saddle that is affordable and once it breaks in becomes unnoticeable from my experience. Came from a mountain bike background and it seemed to be spec'd on every bike I owned and just stuck with what worked. Of course everyone is very different. Thanks for commenting subscribing.
That sounds awesome! Here's the route link ridewithgps.com/routes/43528833 It's a nice simple route but I have a longer version that also includes the town of Corinth if interested. That's so cool that you lead those rides for free!
"All Hail" hat company. She started locally in our hometown of Lincoln\Woodstock in a cool shop called Fig Tree North. Now she's made it to REI stores. So cool!
@@ThatMountainMoment Great video! First time watching and I subbed. I actually live near Concord, NH and am just getting back into riding after many years of putting it off. The app you use is great. Can’t wait to ride some of these routes near me and add a couple myself.
You have some really good gravel just outside of concord in any direction. Glad you got back into riding. It's a beautiful year to be out riding. Everything has bloomed like crazy this spring. RideWithGPS is great and I think building a route from scratch is very rewarding.
I just stumbled upon this and I really enjoyed you guys. Thank you. I live up in the Hudson Valley, New York, so I can relate to that beautiful scenery. I don’t see a lot of gravel here so I mostly ride nice road bike with 32 mm tires and I do have a 29 bike. I have to ask is the gravel bike really worth it? How does it feel to ride that thing on a bumpy gravity dirt road? the only reason to do it is the drop bars the 29 just has so much more stability in my opinion, especially when the road gets tricky or technical. Love to know your thoughts.
The gravel bike is more efficient than my 29er hardtail and for bikepacking there's a lot more options for mounting things like packs and bottles. Our bikes have a gravel plus tire which is 2.1" wide and a more upright position than a gravel race geometry. We've taken them on some really rugged class 4 and 6 roads and many mtb trails, sometimes with 50lbs of gear and they do quite well. The width of the bars makes the biggest difference in stability. My bike has a 45mm mtb stem and 700mm width drop bars. It's setup to go just about anywhere because a lot of gravel routes around here incorporate some really rough trails. I do think if you have a 29er with drop bars and gravel-ish tires then it might not be worth the cost to buy a gravel bike. Our bikes are salsa journeyman(now called journeyer) and they are categorized by salsa as a drop bar adventure bike made for gravel or bikepacking. We have a series called where we ride the Mountains & Manure Bikepacking Route (MMBR) which shows what a gravel bike is capable of. Here's the link to episode 1👇 th-cam.com/video/aTHWmiutkZI/w-d-xo.html

Highly recommend the Lamoille Valley Rail Trail. So beautiful and mellow with great camping and towns along the way. There's a shuttle service too get you back to your car. Let me know if you need more info.
LVRT and xNH trails are awesome. Well placed access to camping and food stops. Use Hip Camp. Please don’t go rogue off these trails. The abutting property owners have been very generous; let’s keep them happy!
Hmmm. I actually have some shims. We'll give it a try. Both of our bodies have a bias towards one side from many years of snowboarding. We've been working to correct that for the past year.
Vermont for sure, most rides we never see a single car and if we do it's a slow moving farm truck or someone who lives there. Gravel is so popular there that the motorists really give way to the cyclists. You're not to far from the northeast Kingdom area. Check out the area around the town of craftsbury. You can park at the craftsbury outdoor center which is very cool in itself and has a food truck. For a great post ride pizza check out Parker Pie. It's a unique place tucked away in the country side that serves up some really solid homemade pizzas and local beverages.

Where in NH were you from? where are you now? And yes you need to come back. It's the best!
@@ThatMountainMoment durham to san diego. i went back for vacation a couple years ago and it was perfect, like the dreams ive had being back there.
Well the winters in San Diego are pretty darn nice though 😉
Great ride. Thanks for sharing. Too far for me to ever ride...but it looks great.
Thanks for watching. The distance doesn't matter as long as you're enjoying the ride. Some of our most memorable rides are quite short.
@@ThatMountainMoment Oh I meant far from where I live, not ride distance. But I agree...we all live on the fun of short distance rides.
Oh, ha ha, where do you live?
Nice guys, can very much appreciate!
Thank you, we're so glad you enjoyed it. The route link is in description if you want to ride it.
Great video, gets a sub from me! May try that ride, been wanting to get up north with my gravel bike.
It's a ride worth doing for sure. Let us know if you end up doing it.
Thank you for the sub! Welcome to the channel.
So cool!

Now your comment made me want to ride in Ontario 🤔
Living their best lives 👍👍👍
I could get used to that 🚴♂️😎
I plan on biking Kancamagus Highway in August.. love the Nature Bars.. I usually get Blueberry & Apple Oatmeal Crumble.. You make a great point.. how the scenery is changing every Mile 😁🍀🌞
The kanc is a gorgepus ride. We live right in Lincoln, which direction are you riding it?
@@ThatMountainMoment I would like to leave from the visitor center in Lincoln.. head towards North Conway.. but it depends on my ride.. my sister has a place in N. Conway.. maybe I’ll do both ways.. depends on time I have.. going to a Family Wedding 🙂
@@ThatMountainMoment I didn’t notice, what kind of Gravel Bike do you Both have ?? I have a Surly MS..
Just Subbed 🚴♂️😎
This made my day!
Awe thanks Scott! That type of comment makes our day!
So beautiful I'm mad LoL. But how do you handle the winters!
Great vid!
thank you!
I need to get over to Vermont.
Yes you do Scott!
it was cool looking!
See, I knew it ha ha! Should have kept it right!?
Awesome trip guys! Come up Maine sometime!
It's on our list to explore Maine more often. We have a two video mini series up near Acadia on the carriage roads and the Schoodic Peninsula. Love maine and what they've recently done with the AMC to promote the gravel riding. Maybe you could give us a gravel tour and we could get a ride in.
@ThatMountainMoment absolutely would love to hook up with you guys sometime. Have a camp in Carrabassett Valley do alot of gravel riding in that area
Oh yeah! Carrabasset has some awesome mountain bike trails too. Haven't been up that way in a couple years. We'll let you know when we plan a trip up there. That would be sweet!
Awesome ride!
One of our favorites. Did you get out to ride this week?
You guys ever get hunrgry in the woodsville area. Pop into jamie lynns kitchen wedneday-monday good food and you can check out the ammonoosuc rail trail if you havent already
Never been to Jamie Lynn's. We do ride that trail though so now it's in the list to stop there. Any recommendations from the menu?
@@ThatMountainMoment we may see eachother out there someday then. And they've got a decent seafood selection, and all their burgers are good. I havent tried them yet, but i hear the bangin shrimp tacos are a hit as well. Its just off the trail across the main road, next to the gym. (The Railyard i think is the name) booth, bar, and patio seating!
@coolergappney1943 sounds awesome! If there's tacos in any form, we're in!
Safe travels, the north east is beautiful this time of year. What saddle to you use when doing long trips like this?
We both use the WTB Volt saddle on across all our bikes. It's a saddle that is affordable and once it breaks in becomes unnoticeable from my experience. Came from a mountain bike background and it seemed to be spec'd on every bike I owned and just stuck with what worked. Of course everyone is very different. Thanks for commenting subscribing.
I lead free scenic social bike rides in northern Vermont (50+ members, 8-10 average per ride) . Would love to see your route 🙏
That sounds awesome! Here's the route link
ridewithgps.com/routes/43528833
It's a nice simple route but I have a longer version that also includes the town of Corinth if interested. That's so cool that you lead those rides for free!
@@ThatMountainMoment Many thanks 😊
Love the hat in the last shot
"All Hail" hat company. She started locally in our hometown of Lincoln\Woodstock in a cool shop called Fig Tree North. Now she's made it to REI stores. So cool!
She straight up LOGGED that porta loo 💀
Yeah I thought it was an ironic choice of words ha ha!
"I've used this one before and it was logged." Pun intended?
Oddly enough, Nikki actually didn't notice the pun until I showed her the footage. Which is surprising considering her love of toilet humor 😂
Here's the link to episode 1👇
th-cam.com/video/aTHWmiutkZI/w-d-xo.html
And of course this is just my own opinion and experience. Everyone's comfort level, budget, skills and needs vary.
Thanks very much for the insight, will check out your bike!
Amen
🙏
Hmm it's named New England but the landscape, and the red-painted wooden farms and barns remind me a lot of Sweden.
I can definitely see what you're sayinh. The barns look like the Swedish summer homes, sommerstrugas. That's a great comment are you from Sweden?
@@ThatMountainMoment No, I'm from the Netherlands, but I've been on an organised cycling holiday in the South-East of Sweden :) (And another time kayaking on the coast near Karlskrona)
Well that sounds absolutely awesome. The Netherlands looks like an awesome bike area too. Would love to bikepack or cycle tour in Europe in the future. The kayak trip sounds really cool as well.
Caleb, Justice done.
Awe, thank you so much. Hope you have a wonderful weekend!
Thanks for sharing that! Fellow Maineh here, and you've reminded me about missing all of my bike tours.... thanks again!
Ha ha, love how you typed the "Maineh" accent. Would love to hear more about your tours!
Is there anywhere you can camp on this route?
Hmmm. Let me do some research to answer that question but I bet I can find some spots. Are you talking campsite or rogue style camping?
@@ThatMountainMoment I’m trying to plan a one night bikepacking trip in either NH or VT. I found your channel and absolutely love the content. We just did the northern white mountains loop trail which was 61 miles and we were hoping to find something a little easier this time lol. Rogue camping and filtering our own water is what we did last time and it was a blast
Looks like Nikki might need a shim on her left shoe.
Hmmm. I actually have some shims. We'll give it a try. Both of our bodies have a bias towards one side from many years of snowboarding. We've been working to correct that for the past year.
Anyone now of gravel roads with no cars im so worried about getting hit by a car sucks near bethel me
Vermont for sure, most rides we never see a single car and if we do it's a slow moving farm truck or someone who lives there.
Porta-logged! 🤣😂
Bwahahaha!
*DO take style advice from Caleb!
I'm so glad my style tastes are appreciated🙏😂
Pro tip. Lol
logged? 😂
Toilet humor=my favorite
💩
How come you say route properly?😆
Ha ha, it's the only way😉.
Then there’s shut up..shut up.
