Escape The Winter Blues: Simple Summer Bike Adventure Deep In The Mountains
Escape The Winter Blues: Simple Summer Bike Adventure Deep In The Mountains. Yes, there's lighting on the horizon but the weather changes quickly in New England so we're going for it anyway. So, let's load up the gravel bikes, head out the door and into the vastness of the White Mountains National Forest. Theres a tranquil remote pond far out in the wilderness that's calling to us and even though Nikki doesn't believe me, there's a secret way to enjoy a latte or espresso way out there. This is a lost episode from this past summer, and I hope if you're hunkered down inside from the cold, you get a reminder how freeing it felt to be pedaling your bike with a warm summer breeze in your face. Thank you so much for being part of our adventures, we love the community on here that we get to be a part of.
Much Love & Adventure,

    Parts of those leaf-covered mountain bike trails were very well camouflaged. I can imagine myself 'losing the track', especially at higher speeds. Fun fact: Last week I noticed volunteers (here in the Netherlands) using electric leaf blowers on the mountain bike trails. At first I thought it was silly to use these things in the middle of the woods, but later on I thought it probably prevents a lot of crashes. And with NL being so densely populated, and mountain biking very popular, the tracks get lots of usage so I guess it pays off. What was going on with the brakes? Was it just difficulty braking with wet leaves on the ground?

    • @ThatMountainMoment
      @ThatMountainMoment 23 วันที่ผ่านมา

      They use the electric blowers here too. It really is a great idea but we rode the day the leaves started falling before the trail crew got out there. My brakes ended up having an air bubble in the lever and I needed to bleed them. Made it interesting for sure ha ha. Bike culture in the Netherlands looks so awesome! Actually life in the Netherlands as a whole looks awesome. Really want to visit there. Hope you had a great week.

      Yeah the little moped style ebikes are a fun way to zip around our town when you just feel like chillin and visiting little spots. We used to have a gas moped but the bikes are more fun and are allowed in more places than gas motors. It was one of my favorite intros to make and hopefully the retro vibe came through without being too overpowering. I love making intros and videos that are in rythym with the music(maybe growing up in the music video era is why ha ha). @@ThatMountainMoment Hi the TH-cam algorithm is a bit of a dragon, it toasts you when you’re doing well and roasts you when you go AWOL. Scotland has a dramatic landscape, it’s changed since I was a wee lad with seasons less prominent due to climate change, winters are not as cold and summers are warming up, with more rain. I work in data and AI and try not to use much of social media, preferring to be in the real world rather than virtual. I cycle a lot, MTB, road and gravel with gravel being the real deal, away from the mad rush of vehicles. I lived in the US but didn’t get to Vermont, or Washington state, I lived in Kansas, spent time west & east coast. A lot of people say that a leather boot isn’t enough for that ski… and I should go with the 98. Wondering if you’ve tried a 98 and your thoughts on boot ski combo?

    • @ThatMountainMoment
      @ThatMountainMoment หลายเดือนก่อน

      It depends in how you plan to use it. Our boots are the exoskeleton style but a soft boot. Not even as stiff as the leather B.C. boots but we use them more to tour than prioritize the descending stiffness but I will say that even on tight twisty decents I've never felt like it was a problem. Can still parralel turn them and Tele turn them no problem. The 112s offer more lateral support and I think the wider ski actually negates the need for a stiffer boot because the width is assisting in the lateral stability. I feel that people expect an alpine touring setup peeformance where you can rip turns like a hard boot in steep alpine terrain but that's not what these skis are about for the most part, although they can do that with the proper binding boot combo such as a really light weight apline touring setup or a hard boot Tele set up but at that point id rather have an alpine touring setup with skins and a real ski boot to optimize that type of terrain. These will get you up and down no problem but they really excel in rolling terrain and long sustained climbs and are far more efficient and versatile than a full alpine setup that's more of a one trick pony. These truly glide with a beautiful bouncy in deep powder where an alpine touring is more of a shuffle than a glide. Even a stiffer leather boot would help the turning response on the 112s But if your trying to tour and cover ground efficiently, be more comfortable, and still have plenty of fun on the downs then the otx bc nnn boot binding combo is awesome and I feel it's what this ski is most in harmony with. There are 3 pin purists out there and that would be about the same control but I like the nnn bc better personally and now there's even better versions of that as well. The 112s also can go out in more conditions than the 98s, obviously deeper snow the 112s are incredible but another advantage is that when the coverage is very thin the 112s will keep you on top of that better and you can make 2inches of snow Feel like much more, effectively giving you more opportunities to get out there. The deeper it is the more fun these are though. Weve got spider 62s otx for firmer snow and hard pac\ touring center stuff, when the big skis aren't necessary,but they still break light trail in a dignified manner because they have metal edges and a bigger climbing scales they are a skinny version of the 112s in every way except the side cut is more straight so they can fit in groomed tracks if needed. We went the two skis on both ends of the spectrum instead if compromising in the middle so we could optimize the deep days and the firmer days. But for years we only used our 112s before buying the 62s. Feel free to ask any more questions, I just took them out today and glad I had the flotation to stay up on top of the little bit of snow we had.
